A Record of Battles in Redwall Abbey

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

Preface

I have taken up this record of Battles in and around the Abbey of Redwall partially out of personal interest; in the Abbey's graveyard, there is an entire row (Row #7) dedicated to the unidentified fallen in a battle names "Battle of the Open Ground," a battle which took place in the Abbey's open ground (a very creative name all things considered) more than fifty seasons ago. Now, many of the unknown dead were squirrels serving under the king Nidlorf of the house of Nidlorf, a short lived kingdom which lay east of the Great Lake, and a general area from which many of my own family hails. I have often wondered if any of my own ancestors fought and died here, at Redwall, though there is no true way of knowing. So I present my primary research into the Battle of the Open Ground, one of many which have taken place in the hallowed grounds of Redwall Abbey.

Secondarily to the Battle of the Open Ground is my research adjacent: mainly looking into the many other battles fought in the Abbey, and the many other battles that could be called, "The Battle of the Open Ground," or some such variation. I hope to accurately describe each of these events with the diligence they demand and distinguish each clearly from the other so no mistake remains as to when one battle took place over another, and that the dead be honored.

It is a bloody history Redwall Abbey has, despite its peaceful nature, and the red sandstone stands in silent memory to the many that have fallen defending its sacred halls.
