FV:Tavern

Outside a sign swings on a rusty creaking frame above the doorway of the tavern depicting a faded painting of what appears to be three rather rich looking skeletons slumped over a table around a black chalice, perhaps such a thing could be taken as a warning but it doesn't appear to work on the locals. The noise within on a normal day is usually heard before the door is even opened and only rises in volume when one actually steps inside.

There are the typical qualities of a tavern within, from the bar to the chairs and booths and the odd drunk who never seems to move it's the little details which encourage a patron to pay his tab if he likes his fingers. One look at some of the staff or customers might give the impression but the room is decorated to the fiercer tastes with bones, mostly skulls cropping up here and there to fill a gap on a shelf or decorating the walls above the doorways, fireplace and bar, a pair of axes joining the one over the fire with some signs that they've been yanked off to join in a fight a couple of times. Some of the comfier chairs are lined with fur and very rarely one might be found with a few pointed bits of bone to decorate the back. Despite the looks there is entertainment and fun to be had, some form of music usually played on a small stage in the corner and at least one bouncer usually tries to keep the peace while beasts gamble, drink and be merry.

A small door behind the bar leads out the back to the kitchen and cellars while one wall has been opened up in a wide arch to increase the space off into the next room where what seems to be a wooden fence with gates on either end has been set up as a fighting pit as further entertainment and something to bet over.

Nightbreath the ermine Seer. Blisa the cat, Ferdinand the ferret, and Valerie the vixen.

Nightbreath is in the tavern, hooded, seeming almost downcast. He sighs, sipping his water. It's been an unpleasant few days for him, and he's sworn off alcohol except on special occasions, so that it doesn't interfere with his visions. Thus, he has no relief.

Blisa has no such sadness. Because she's not a Seer. She comes into the tavern, her ever-present art bag at her side, laughing at whatever Valerie just said. Ferdinand, also laughing brushes past them and goes up tot he bar and orders some tea for them. The young cat and her vixen healer bodyguard make their way over to the ermine's table. "Hey, you okay?" the petite feline asks as they sit down. The ferret comes over to them, carrying their tea, and gives the Seer a concerned look of his own as he sets the mugs on the table.

Nightbreath sighs again. He debates whether or not he should tell Blisa what's depressing him. Finally, he decides: She cannot be preserved from pain; it only makes it more bitter when it comes at last. "I had a vision several nights ago," he begins.

Blisa nods and sips her tea, silent. She knows that he'll get to it eventually. Valerie shifts a little nervously. She's never been super comfortable with Seers and their visions, but at least she's respectful of them. Ferdinand goes to lay a comforting paw on the ermine's own, a rare thing for him.

Nightbreath nods, accepting Ferdy's touch. "A Redwaller that I once knew has died," he finally says. "His name was Zork. He fought in the war against Stormfeather."

Blisa gasps and covers her mouth with a paw. "What?! No! Zork??! No! He can't be! ....could your visions be lying to you??" Valerie looks between the 2 in alarm. She really never knew Zork, but if the cat knew him, then the vixen should be sad, right? Ferdinand looks to the tabletop, his lips pursed. Oh, no......that is so sad.

Nightbreath shakes his head sadly. "I'm sorry. Sometimes things are unclear, but never are they false. Zork has gone to the Great Light, or whatever he believed in. Gil'dernur holds him now." He places a paw on Blisa's head comfortingly.

Blisa allows the paw on her head as she bursts into tears. "No....no, why Zork....?" Ferdinand sighs and stares at his tea, lost in his thoughts. Valerie hugs the weeping cat and glares at some of the tavern patrons who have started to whisper to one another.

"I'm sorry," Nightbreath whispers again. He glances around at the tavern and almost bellows something to scare them off, but thinks better of it. Instead, he rises after a brief moment of contemplation. "Can this young one not show her sorrow in peace? Without judgment or shame? Must all of you strip her of her dignity in such a manner? She's lost a friend. Let her mourn in peace, or answer to me."

The whisperers gulp in unison, and most of them quietly slink out of the tavern. A couple go to the bar and order her some cookies and a pie, trying to show their concern and apologize. The waitress who brings them over to the table hugs Blisa, and she and Valerie start murmuring comforting words. Ferdinand sighs and quietly asks the Seer, "Do you know if he wath in pain when he died?"

"Nay," Nightbreath says, sitting down again. "'T'was peaceful, like falling asleep...He was surrounded by friends and family, and he felt no fear or pain. Only contentment. He'd lived a long life, and I think he accepted that it was time."

Ferdinand nods sadly and sighs. "I'm glad of that." Blisa's sobs have quieted down, and the waitress (very) reluctantly goes back to work. Valerie picks the cat up and holds her close on her lap. Even adults sometimes need that kind of comfort.

"As am I," says the Seer. He stands up, offers Blisa a quick hug, then departs, saying something about talking to Ragg.

Blisa allows his hug, then after he leaves, the trio go back home, where the young cat can mourn in solitude. Ferdinand carries her while Valerie carries the pie and cookies.
