Recovering.2 (A Long Patrol and Salamandastron log)
Sorry for any typos I missed.
Salamandastron: Infirmary
- -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Salamandastron *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-
This is the infirmary for the long patrol. This room is one of the most
well lit rooms in the whole of Salamandastron, with several candles placed
strategically along the shelves and cupboards. Many wooden beds line the
walls of this room, each outfitted with impeccably clean white linen
sheets. This unfortunately limits the walking space in this room. Where
there are not beds there are shelves and cabinets that hold a variety of
different medical equipment, mostly needles and bandages. A single stone
sink is firmly lodged into one of the counters. The sink is not fancy, in
fact it is quite awkward. It is a necessity, nonetheless. An open closet
is in the corner of the room, storing a surplus of compact cots, in the
unusual case of mass injuries. The room usually has several nurse hares in
it, roaming around tending to various injuries.

Hares: Ava, female. Jinora, female. Felicity, female. Flint, male. Quinten, male. Taye, male.
Jinora has come a long way since her injury, but continues to suffer through a subtle recovery process even now. The limp is less pronounced these days, but this isn't the case after a full day of duty, some light training, and the exercises the healing staff gave her. She's pooped as she gimps her way into the infirmary, one lip puffy from a few rounds in the ring and her leg sore as a mofo. Mama needs some meds.
Settled in at her desk is Ava, who is currently working through a mountain of paperwork. Her chin is propped up in one hand as her other swirls along the parchment with her quill. She is robotic in her motions as she moves them from one stack to the other. The sight of Jinora causes her to tilt her chin upwards. "Hey." She calls over as her ears perk. "Fighting again I see."
"Am Ah evah not?" The corporal smiles, scratching at the back of her neck as she approaches the desk. "Leg is killin' me, though - not because Ah'm overdoin' it, though." She quickly clarifies, anticipating the lecture before it happens. "Been doin' my stretches an' everythin', don' worry." There's a grin as she takes it upon herself to plop down on an empty cot with a groan, arms and legs hanging over opposite sides. "Drown in paphwork yet?"
"I really like paperwork. It's calming and does not shoot itself in the foot." Ava says as she flips another page to a stack, then turns around in her chair to rustle through the pain medications that she has assigned to the Doe. Taking out the small bag, she thumps it in front of her. "Everything else okay?"
"Nightmares've calmed down f'the most part." Jinora admits, craning over to snatch the bag. Sweet, sweet relief. "Been keepin' too busy t'think about it, really. How're /you/, though? Ah 'eard about you 'n Greg." A smirk slowly spreads across her muzzle. "/An'/ Mayjah Quiiiiinteeeeen." She sings, rolling over to throw her feet towards the pillow of the cot, bent at the knee and dangling while she props herself up on her elbows. "Y'old fox you."
Wrinkling her nose, Ava says, "There is not much to celebrate in regards to Greg and I. I still love him and I always will. We're going to remain best friends.". Her ears perk a bit upwards. "But, yes, Quinten and I have gone out a few times. He is a nice guy. A true gentleman. He is trying very hard." She gives another scribble of the paper, though she is lacking the type of energy or excitement that one would have over 'dating' someone.
The younger doe's ears wilt as she searches for a reply to that. "Sorry." She mumbles before rolling over so her upper half hangs off the end of the infirm bed. "At least y'back out there?" She tries, flashing an upside-down grin at the Sargent in an attempt to be uplifting. "'Ow is Grace doin' with it? Ah cin make 'er anothah hat or somethin'." Because her terrible knitting heals all hurts.
"Oh, Grace is fine. She understands that mommy and daddy love each other and we're both working very hard. We still go out with her to Halyard together as a family." Ava says with a bob of her head. "When she is older we will be more open about what is really going on, but we do not want to work her up too much. But she is definitely a daddy's girl. I am hoping that she takes after him and gets interested in metal, even if it is making bangles or ear rings."
"Well, 'ey, seems downright civil, then." A lot of this goes over Jin's head - on top of reveling in the throes of teenage angst she is just downright naive. A 'late bloomer', if you will. "Ah could see 'er workin' a forge. She'll get /super/ buff." The teen puffs her cheeks out to signify just /how/ buff the leveret will get. "If she evah wants t'learn boxin', though. Send 'er my way. At least Ah cin teach'er how t'take a black eye like a champ." She gives a wicked grin, still upside down, at winks at Ava.
"I think we will skip on the boxing lessons. I would like to see her live a non-military life personally. Maybe when she is old enough I will escort her to RedWall so she can live peacefully out there and find a new adventure." Ava says with a grin on her face as she finishes the last paper and sticks it in the outgoing box. "So, when are you going to get super buff?" She teases.
Jinora laughs, finally rolling right side up and swinging her legs to the floor. "Wha' are you /talkin'/ about? Have y'not /seen/ me?" The doe curls a bicep, brings it to her muzzle, and kisses it. "Ah cin outbench 'af th'bucks 'ere with these sick muscles." She poses, dramatically.
"Yeah, well, you are starting to look like half the bucks." Ava smirks to herself as she picks up the stack of paper, wraps a twine around it, then puts it in a new box. "You trying to get as big as Greg or something? Walk around all clunky like?"
"Y'know, Ah'll take it as a compliment." Jinora laughs, giving her bulging bicep a final goodbye kiss before plopping back down to the cot. She just sits, this time - like a proper military beast, not sprawled all over the place like the heathen teenager she secretly is. "Ah'll be th'first hare t'bench th'Badgah Lord. Just you wait - you'll see. You'll /all/ see." She winks again. "So 'ow much longah do you give /this/ atrocity t'heal?" She motions to her leg, which is still just a little visibly...Twisty? Bulgy? Bad ass? Let's go with the last one.
"I suppose that is up to you and how much stress. you keep putting on it. Taye has wounds that will never heal because he's a lunkhead who will not listen to me when I tell him to rest and not keep running into danger when he is still in stitches. You suffer from Taye-ism. It is contagious." Ava says with a grin. "Symptoms include aggressive fighting, not listening to Ava and thinking that fluttering of eyes and pouty lips will make things better."
A shadow falls across the floor near the doorway, and after a couple of moments Felicity peeks her head around the open door. "'Ello." She says as she comes and stands full in the doorway. "I'm suppossed to get an injury checked on." She takes a couple of steps, limping slightly. She seems to be favouring her right side. "....but I can come latah if you're busy," she adds, secretly wanting to not have it be checked on. It really hurt the last time she had a Healer look at it.
"Y'mean they don't?" Jinora asks, pouting as she flutters her eyelashes at the healer doe. When this strategy does not procure the desired results, she gives up and flops back on the bed. Military professionalism be damned. "'E did give me some /great/ advice when Ah was stuck 'ere. An' a flask. But y'not supposed t'know about tha' last one, so mums th'word." The doe's ears swivel back at Felicity's voice - oh, this one is in her unit. Quick! Look superior! Jin straightens up and coughs into her fist. She's sick, not slacking. See? It takes her a moment to remember that she really was here on official cripple business and has nothing to fake because...Yeah, her leg is gross.
"A flask, huh? I suppose I will not have words with Major Taye about that then." Ava says with a wrinkle of her nose, then looks over to Felicity, then checks her list. "Take a seat.". Too bad, so sad. You are getting your check-up. She rises upwards and plucks the file for the other Doe out of her desk, then flips through it to see what is going on.
Felicity was in a fight a week ago. Surprise! The maid sits down on a cot next to Jin's and says, "I got sliced in my side while fightin' a lizard. They 'ad kidnapped my Uncle. I was fixed up in 'Alyard." She glances at the other injured doe and gives a small smile. Be friendly! Why not?
"Wha' is it with th'lizards around 'ere?" Jin sighs, shaking her head. At least these ones weren't cannibals, or this conversation would be a lot more depressing. "An', hey, y'can't tell me this place ain't borin' as all 'ell when y'can't /move/." She pouts back at Ava - since she's apparently just gotten Taye in trouble. Oops, sorry mate. She could only knit so many pairs of misshapen socks before alcohol got involved, anyways. "An' did Ah say flask? Ah meant books. Ah was drunk on /knowledge/."
"Sounds like they are bored." Ava says as she settles down next to Felicity to inspect the wound with a frown on her face. "Looks like the stitching is good. So they are at least listening to me when I help out. How much pain are you feeling when you step down on it? Sore or excruciating?" With a look to Jinora, she wrinkles her nose. "Hey, you can get drunk all you want. I am not your mom or your sarge. That is all between you and Dagda. Your secret sloshing is safe with me."
Felicity holds her shirt up out of the Healer's way. The cut is just below the bottom of her ribcage. "'Tis just a bit sore. I'm tryin' to not pick my baby sistah up too much, but sometimes she jumps me." She cracks a grin at the Corporal. Drunk on knowledge. She stifles a snigger.
"Don't blame 'em. Th'swamp is pretty borin'." Jinora shrugs - she's seen enough of it for one lifetime, at least. "They could do with some secret sloshin', if y'ask me. So could you." She smirks, teasing out at Ava with her elbow as she passes to check on the other doe. Speaking of which. "Siblin's are more dangerous than 'alf th'vermin you'll meet on this job." She crooks a thumb at her chest. "Oldest of five. Ah feel you." With a yawn, she pushes herself upright once again and twists from side to side to crack her back. "Hoi, sarg, can Ah get some'a that sleepy tea stuff, again?" Always befriend the healing staff - they can hook you UP.
Flint has been trying to rest best he can and has done good at keeping his injuries tended to. His shoulder is bandaged up tightly and he has some bandages on his paw, more so on his right paw but all seem to be healing well.
Felicity nods solemnly. "Aye, 'specially if yer sibbie is a little leveret with enough energy to support 3 adults." She rolls her eyes and gets a bit more comfortable on the cot. "She's my...only sistah. She's a nutcase sometimes, wot!" Spotting her uncle, she waves at him. "Hi, Uncle Flint! 'Ow you 'ealin' up?" She asks with obvious concern.
Speak of the devil! After tipping her chin towards Flint in a polite greeting, Jin lets herself drift away from the conversation, laying back on the bed for a brief rest. It's been a long day - but every day is a long day. That must be why they call it the Long Patrol.
Flint offers a smile to his niece Felicity and nods "It's healing fine. My paws are a little sore but healing well, as is my shoulder."
Felicity grins. "Good, I'm glad to 'ear it." She notices the other maid lay down and quietly moves over to where her uncle is, letting Jin rest in a slightly less noisy enviroment, just in case she drifts asleep. "'Ow's yer breathin'? The amount of smoke really scared me for a while."
Plucking up some of the sleepy medication from a cabinet, Ava fills a small tea bag and passes it over to Jin, then goes back to inspecting the wound on Felicity. "I am going to change out the dressing and give you some medication to keep the soreness down." She says with a bob of her head. "Hi Flint. How are you doing?"
Flint answers "I'm breathing fine. I had some issues for a couple days but it's good now. I rarely cough as I did first couple days, I mean I could hardly even talk"
"Yeeeees." Jinora takes the tea bag and drops it in with the rest of her drugs, sitting up attentively and casting a look towards Flint. "Glad t'see you among th'livin'. Close call, I hear." She stretches, pulling her leg up onto the cot with her and kneading at the sore muscles. Because ow.
Felicity goes to give her uncle a gentle hug. "Sounds good, Ava." She stands from the cot where her uncle is and goes back to the cot that's closest to where the Healer is. The door is open, and the occasional hare can be seen wandering by on their mission of whatever. Smiling at Jinora's obvious enjoyment of painkiller thingies, the haremaid deftly manages to not trip over that cot on her way to the other side of the room. Sitting down, she pulls her shirt up to the Healer can get to the wound she has just below her right ribcage.
Nodding her head to Flint, she says, "I am glad to hear that you are feeling better." She assures as she gives a wide grin, then tells Jinora. "Do not go crazy on those by the way. Take it in moderation as I told you to. You are not to use it as a pain killer just so you can go get into a fight."
The door clicks open and Quinten sticks his head inside, he looks around and frowns as he spots Jinora and Felicity, "Ava do you have a moment or shall I come back later?" he looks at all the bandages and shakes his head, "I shall be fascinated to read your report."
Flint looks over, hmms he has a bandaged shoulder and both paws, he waves with the less bandaged one. "Hallo..."
As soon as the Recorder peeks in, Lissie yanks her shirt back down. She's not too nervous around her uncle, but that's 'cause he's /family/. Quin is not family. "Um....'ello. I'll make sure ya get a copy, wot!" She glances behind her at the Fighter doe and adds, "I dunno what 'appened to 'er; I wasn't in that fight." Honest hare! She is sitting on a cot closest to the herb cabinets, letting...well, she had been letting the Healer rebind her wound, but then Quin happened. She glances at her uncle a few cots away, hoping that he doesn't hurt himself or anything.
Giving a smile to Felicity and Flint, Ava says, "You are good to go." She says to the younger Doe, then glances over at Quinten's voice. "Just routine check ups, I have time." She says as she heads over to him with a grin after putting the paperwork back on the desk. She gives a motion of her head. "Let's step outside?"
Quinten shakes his head and draws back around the door, "Nothing urgent, I just want my books back. The infirmary seems to have about fifteen books checked out to it and I'd like them back before they get forgotten that was all." he grins, "And it's an excuse to drop by and say hello to you of course."
Flint rub is shoulder and moves it slightly "Well guess I won't be doing longbow practice still and unsure when to get back ta using me saber"
It's just a regular old party in the infirmary, today! And Taye's the next happening buck to show up for it. Oooor something. He strolls in, expecting to find - you know, couple patients? A healer? Not a whole gaggle. His eyebrows shoot up, his eyes turning to Ava and Quinten, who are closest, before sweeping over the rest. He actually has a /reason/ for being here! His left forearm and wrist are bandaged, look-it that. "Uhhhh, everyone all right?"
Felicity smiles up at the Healer. "Thank you, Ava." She tucks the anti-soreness stuff into her pocket. She stands up and goes back to her uncle. Sitting beside him, she wags a finger at him in mock-grumpiness, ""If you 'urt yerself trainin' before the 'Ealers say you're ready, I will personally tie you up and force ya to rest, okay?" Giving him a wink, she goes to hug him as she turns her gaze to the newly-entered Major. "Define 'okay', sah. I got a cut on me side from a lizard. The lizard got some stabs in the chest. I called it even, sah." She's nto as nervous around commanding people as she used to be! Yay!
"Yes, do not hurt yourself even more. Bad enough Jinora and Taye constantly do it." Ava's voice raises up on purpose as she spies Taye walk in. "Nothing is wrong, sir. Just routine check ups by them." As she pauses by Quinten, she gives him a smile. "You are not getting your books back. I am still using them, for reasons. But, it is nice of you to use it as an excuse to visit me."
Quinten shakes his head, "I want them back by the end of the week Ava, you've had them for nearly a month. People have been asking after them." he looks at Taye and then at the busy room, "I should get out of your way though dear you are busy." he kisses Ava on the cheek and flitters past Taye with a grin and then the recorder is gone.
Jinora suddenly starts into wakefulness. Apparently she wasn't having as much trouble falling asleep as she thought. "Hm? Whazzat?!" The corporal shoots upright, a paw against her temple, blinking blearily. Maybe she has been pushing it just a bit too much.
"I don't /constantly/..." Taye objects. He's /very/ hurt, can't you tell? He glances after Quinten as he exits, with a snort of laughter. "He's /very/ serious about 'is books, Ave. Tsk tsk." He holds up his forearm, then, with a cheesier grin. "Mind checkin' this for me sometime?" There's dried blood over the bandaging back of paw and forearm. "Got int' a bit of a scuffle on the beach las' night." His eyebrows shoot up as Jin wakes.
"Oh, I know he is serious about his books and he is not getting them back either." Ava says with a grin as she heads over to her Major with a flush along her ears from the peck to her cheek. "It's how I can get him to visit more. Besides, I do need them. I have research to do and I am updating some medical terminology ... and ... you know how I am about poisons. What did you do this time?" She asks with a sigh. "I don't even know how you have all your limbs." With that, she leads Taye to a cot near the back to do her battery of tests.
Felicity jumps slightly as the Corporal starts into wakefulness. That was startling. "I return my books as soon as possible, or else Julia'll rip them up, little monstah..." Looking at the Major's arm, she cringes in empathy. That looks like it hurts.
Flint is just..quiet. He has his wounded cleaned and rebandaged and then looks asleep on a cot.
"Whaddid /you/ do?" Jin asks, eyebrows quirking up at the Major's arm as her bottom lip sticks out in a pout. "An' why wasn' Ah invited?" For real - everyone is going off and getting injured without her. It's super unfair. Balling a paw into a fist, she roughly rubs at one of her eyes, trying to force herself back into the world of the living. "Sorry if Ah startled y'." She mumbles, belatedly, at Felicity and Flint, sitting quietly on his own cot.
"... Well, maybe if the vermin 'ad sent /me/ 'n' invitation, I would've invited you 'long," Taye points out with a small grin. While Ava starts to gather up supplies, he starts to unroll the old bandage, wincing just a smidge. "Me 'n' Darklett were out walkin' 'n' got ambushed by a bunch'a vermin." He flashes Jin a smirk. "They're dead now, 'course."
Felicity smiles at the other doe and says quietly, "It's alright, no big deal." Listening intently to the story, she shakes her head. "Must've been a sight. Was it recent?" It looks recentish.
Flint is asleep...oh great he snores.
"Well tha's just rude of them, ain't it?" Jinora asks, clicking her tongue in disappointment and swinging off the cot to go and take a look at the Major's paw as Felicity questions him. "Lovely." She wrinkles her nose at it as Flint falls asleep, a little smirk playing at her muzzle as he sets to snoring. She didn't sound that bad, did she?
She did. Worse, actually. Sorry, Jin. The bandage falls away and Taye grimaces, turning his eyes up and away. Blood, gross. "Dark stitched me up, but nevah trust a fightah t'do a healah's job," he remarks with a snort. "Sleepin' on the job 'gain, Corporal?" he teases.
Felicity is basically oblivious to her uncle's snores. Instead, she's eyeing the wound with a peculiar fascination. If this whole Runner thing has to stop, she should seriously consider being a Healer. "Or a Runnah. My stitchin' would probably be worse....although I do mend my own clothes, so...." She stifles a yawn. Maybe she should take a nap, too.
Shut up, Taye. "Yeah, was hopin' to sleep through y'visit, but no such luck." Jin pokes her tongue out at him as she crosses her arms across her chest. Neener, neener. Felicity earns a soft chuckle. "Aye, y'lucky it was Darklett, then. Ah would've opened up a new wound entirely." Fighters are much more adept at causing injury than fixing them. Healing requires a deft paw and an amount of patience that she will never, ever, /ever/ possess. Ever. "Healahs don' get enough credit, if y'ask me. Jus'. Nevah tell Ava Ah said tha'."
Taye laughs abruptly. "/No/. I won't. Trust me. M'not stupid." He grins, then, tapping his boot absently against the ground while he waits. He glances to Felicity at the yawn, grinning. "Someone put sleepy herbs in the tea or sommat?"
Felicity nods in agreement with the other doe. "I agree. They do deserve more credit....and I won't tell Ava." Stifling another yawn, she shakes her head. "No, I was up with my sistah half the night 'cause she kept 'avin nightmares. I think I should go lay down, sorry. 'Ave a good rest o'yer day, wot!" Ignoring the cots int he room, she stands and limps out of the room. Headed for her bunk in the dormitories. Hopefully they'll be nice and quiet...
Thanks for reading!
