Rabbit trails and tangents and salad, oh my!
Redwall Abbey Pond
Flicktail the arctic fox. Zinnia the badger person. Magramba the squirrely guy. DoraRose the mousey mouse. Leon the healer mouse dude.
Flicktail is carrying scrap wood from his shop to the fire pit
Zinnia walks along the edge of the pond, she has taken the day off today and goes to sit on the shoreline watching some quietly, a couple of those water bug things are skipping on the water.
Summer is a beautiful time of year, and it seems that Magramba likes to take full advantage of its wonders when he has the chance. The squirrel is bereft of his usual garb and kit, choosing to wear instead just his roomy gray shirt and trousers. The yoke is undone to further improve the ventilation and enhance the casualness of the outfit as the warrior trounces across the yard towards the pond. A paw goes up to wave at Zinnia as he approaches. "G'day to you, miss!" comes his cheerful greeting.
DoraRose comes from the direction of the kitchens, a huge bowl of salad, topped with cheese, croutons, boiled beans, and other yummy, nutrient-rich things and a whopping lot vinegaret dressing. Hey, you burn ALLOT of calories when training and exercising with your weapons. She is clothed in her regular dress and apron, and she heads towards the pond. She says nothing, just enjoying the day, her food, and watching the little buggies skitter around on the water.
Flicktail see's the mousy mouse and his ears perk as he piles the scrap wood by the fire pit so it can be burned for fun when evenings strike. He also observes Magramba and Zinnia and after stacking the scrap pushes himself up to standing with a paw on his knee "Good aye every beast...perhaps my friends can 'elp me with a question I have had about me old home at Camp Willow"
Zinnia nods a simple hello , "Hello" She says quietly and keeps it at that, she is not very talkative today like she usually is.
Magramba blinks at Flicktail's question, glancing over the fox's way. "Uh, sure, Flick. I haven't been there for a while, but I stopped by about a month ago."
DoraRose raises an eyebrow. "Um...okay. I'll answer your question as best as I can. What's up?" She munches on a forkful of yummy salad and sits beside the badger, even if she's still standing. She looks like she needs someone to talk to, maybe.
Flicktail spreads out a blanket from his back pack for everyone to sit on near the pond, and sits, his thick tail flicking "well...Even vermin beasts accept Abbey beasts because of our oath right? they do not harm abbey beasts...most vermin don't attack an abbey beast...that's correct, isn't it?"
Zinnia has decided not talk to anyone today so it's unclear if she hears the fox or not as she sighs and goes to walk further from the beasts and sit by a tree close to the orchards.
"Oh, you meant... her," Magramba says to no one in particular, ears drooping a bit. Embarrassing. Right. Still, he listens to the question. "I'd say it's more toleration than actual acceptance," he answers, putting his two bits out there.
DoraRose nods, not wanting to interrupt the fox's train of thought. She watches the badger wander off, and frowns. Should she follow her or no?
Flicktail asks, "Then why be it so hard for my old home to accept me? I been a good beast...I do good things" he looks at the badger, and feels a pang of sympathy "Sister Zinnia is very quiet I hope everything be ok for her"
Zinnia wanders off towards the First Orchard...
Zinnia has left.

"It's nothing personal, Flick," Magramba offers, shrugging and shaking his head, his tail moving slowly behind him. "They're suspicious of all foxes, and rightly so. At the Abbey, Martin is held above everything else, but it's not like that everywhere. Even this place has been burned by taking foxes in before. Multiple times." He's well-read for a warrior.
DoraRose nods. "yeah, Flick. Plus, did you see any of the otters that helped you? Perhaps they're all gone, dead or something. If they had been there, I'm sure they would've stood up and declared your trustworthiness."
Flicktail says, "oh thanks Dora Rose, thanks Magramba, it's not that, aye Kroova be in the Dark Forest for all I know, It's just I think of Woodlanders as Verra smart beasts, and every vermin hoard I been in KNOWS ya do NOT mess wi' th' white mouse from the dark forest...aye foxes have taken the abbey afore but every time the Mouse rises up and drags 'em by their tail to th' Dark Forest."
"I just mean that plenty of foxes and other vermin have come in here, saying they were friends, and woodlanders got killed because of it." Magramba points vaguely towards the main Abbey building. "It's written in the records. That badger that wandered off has done a fine job with some of those, by the way." Rabbit trail. The squirrel shakes his head, pushing an open paw towards the ground to help himself focus on the subject at hand. "But that's not the point. The point is, Redwall is special. Here, they don't care what you look like. If you say you're good, Redwall believes you. Camp Willow isn't that way."
DoraRose may or may not be slightly confused, so she decides to just sit there with her salad. She got up WAAAAAY too early this morning (blame Lily) to be dealing with....whatever the fox is trying to get at. Maybe in a few minutes she'll understand better. Until then, she needs to replace the calories she burned this morning.....
Flicktail shrugs and smiles and sits back putting his footpaws in the water to cool off "I have not heard from the GUOSIM in a longtime have either of you heard from that old Log-a-log?"
Magramba looks off towards the sky for a moment, paws moving to his hips. "Y'know I haven't heard from the shrews in a long time. Like a /long/ time."
DoraRose looks at her bowl. Nurts. She has eaten all of her salad. *Sigh......* She sets it to 1 side and honestly states, "I don't think I've ever met any Guosim shrews. They're probably off in some watermeadow, arguing and feasting and fishing like I've heard they do."
Flicktail smiles "I dunno...I like fishing on our abbey pond...and swimmin', too....you know the 3 of us should train together more...maybe you should each try Martin's sword, you know it works different from a regular sword"
Magramba shakes his head, paws remaining on his hips and his tail till. "Flick, I wouldn't be comfortable with Martin's sword. That's too much responsibility. I could break it, or lose it, or... or curse it." That last one is probably a stretch, and the squirrel knows it. "I wouldn't mind training with you, though. I usually come here to get away from that life for a while, but it couldn't hurt. I mean, unless you stabbed me on accident or something."
DoraRose wrinkles her nose. "I remember when you let me take Martin's sword to go fight Stormfeather with it. Remember from the legends, Sir Magramba? It's sharper and stronger than ordinary metal. I know firstpaw--I have personally sliced through opponent's weapons with it." She then smiles. "That would be nice. It gets kind of boring, training by myself. I think I've intimidated all the guards, so they're all scared to spar with me. It'd be a nice change to train with someone more.....my level, too."
Flicktail says, "well if you don't wanna that fine but that is th' point...You can't break Matrin's sword...it's got badger magic in it...and well the Champion be bigger then the sword, there may come a time one of YOU beasts are called to carry the Sword...I do wot Martin tells me"
"Curse it. I'll definitely curse it." Magramba nods definitively, as if that settles the matter, since apparently breaking it is out. "And I'm not a 'Sir' anymore, Dora. Those days were gone a long time ago. Anyway, I'd prefer not to have my sword cut in half, either."
Leon walks over to the pond and close to the others.
DoraRose chuckles slightly. "I don't think anybeast could curse it. And there's no such thing as magic, silly." She says this in a kind way. She waves to her husband and pats the ground beside her. She is sitting with a huge and empty salad bowl beside her.
Flicktail asks, "Magramba why would a good beast like you have a curse? wot kind of Curse?' he smiles when he see's brother Leon
"...he /just said/ there was badger magic in the blade," Magramba objects to Dora's chide, then shakes his head. It doesn't matter. "I don't know, I just have bad luck. I'll jinx it, there. It's not a curse anymore."
Leon sits by Dorarose and half listens to what is being said, he yawns as he is a little tried in fact.
"I don't believe in magic. Or jinxes. Sorry." Dora goes to rest her head on the Master Healer's shoulder. "We could train with wooden weapons, if you'd prefer."
"Whatever you prefer is fine," Magramba replies, moving towards the pond where he was headed earlier, shucking off his shirt on the way. If the pair watches, they'll see him remove his boots as well before splashing out into the pond to enjoy the cool water.
Leon watches as the squirrel walks off and smiles at Dorarose "Hello dear, you doing ok today?"
DoraRose smiles and ignores the squirrel. "I'm alright. Tired 'cause Lily woke me up super early, but good. How are you, love?" She goes to wrap her arm around his waist.
Leon smiles "I am fine, not been too busy in the infirm and that's always good."
DoraRose nods. "Haven't seen Caleb today....have you? Does he seem to be doing well in the kitchens?"
Leon says, "He was in the kitchens earlier making an apple time. He is getting very good at cooking and enjoys it. Not so interested in healing but that's ok, he knows some basic stuff...maybe Lilymoore should learn some healer basics as well "
DoraRose nods. "That would be good. She seems to be becoming quite the comforter. I think she'd be good at healing. Maybe a Warrior Healer?" she adds, half-joking.
Leon shrugs "I do not know, a warrior should know healing as well, you know just in case its needed."
DoraRose nods. "I'm glad I've learned some healing skills, but I'm not very good at them. Do you think, sometime soon, you could help me et better at it? I'm always afraid my bandages are going to fall off."
Leon nods "Of course dear, never know when may need them. Even basic saves lives"
DoraRose grins a little crookedly. "Most of the bandages I have to make are on myself, which just ratchets up the whole awkwardness of making them."
Leon nods "Still maybe your help someone else one day"
DoraRose smiles and nods. "That would be nice....instead of taking a life, I might be able to save one." The bell for dinner rings, and she stands and grabs her salad bowl. "C'mon! Dinnertime."
Leon smiles as he stands "We best get to dinner, Lacota dislikesbeasts whom are late to any meal." He then will head inside with her.
