Now What
Characters: William, Robin
Location: Moledeep
Moledeep: Mole Hall
William is sitting at the table in Mole Hall nursing a mug of something. He's still getting used to being a father all of the sudden.
And in comes a stoat. Its Robin. He's smiling to himself while humming a tune. "Heya Will!" he seems more happy than usual.
William looks up and smiles at his nephew, "Hey. Pull up a chair if you want. Garnet's been making cider. An Aik's gotten back to being himself a bit more, conplaining about th cold again."
Rob smiles and sits down next to the rat. "Yeah. Ah. Things are great finally...Anba is dead, I'm gonna be a dad soon, you're already one...and we're home. What could be better?!"
William nods a bit in agreement with the stoat's words. "Not much," he says in answer to the question while taking a sip of hot cider.
Rob sinks into his seat and folds his arms across his chest. "Might get boring around here though." he nods. "No fox to worry about. No worrying about if we're going to wake up dead." he nods.
William says, "Boring might not be that bad now that we're all together again. It's wont be like when we were on th ship waiting for Aik an Kentar."
Robin thinks for a few moments and nods. "Yeah. I suppose." he smirks slightly. "That was bad." the stoat nods. "But hey. Might not be so boring after all. We do have a badger around. A little stoat on the way...another otter. And some weird little squirrel." he thinks for a few moments. "And Christopher will be of age pretty soon, so." he shrugs.
William bobs his head, "Yes we do," and takes another sip from his mug.
The stoat thinks for a bit and looks around. "So! Now that winter is coming. What do you think we should do?" he asks. "You know. Do we want to hold any sort of season marking thing?"
"We don't usually and we missed harvest so a feast in kinda out unless we just eat what we got from th Abbey and I think it would be better to make it last as we can't grow anything til next Spring," Will explains setting his mug aside for a while, "Did you have somethin' in mind?"
The stoat ohs and then shrugs. "Yeah. I suppose. And me? No. No, heh. I was just thinking about what to do now." he nods. "We're back home. No where we can go we haven't been a thousand times before." he nods. "Dad was thinking of buying a tavern. Turning it into an inn of sorts. With a fighting pit." he nods.
William shakes his head, "Why? There's already a inn a few days walk from here. It doesn't have fighting pit and I don't know if they serve much food there. And there's one or two north of th Abbey that do have food an rooms, still no fighting pit but don't know if th beasts around here would come if a place did have one." The rat thinks a bit, "Well some would come but a great many others wouldn't."
Rob shrugs. "Dad wants something to do other than just stand around here all day doing chores and stuff. And the fighting pit would only be to avoid bar fights...if you have problems, into the pit you go." he nods. "Or something like that." the stoat shrugs a bit. "Aik is on board with it I think."
William hmms, "Well instead of tryin t open his own tavern or inn maybe he could talk one th inns or taverns already around if he can set up a fighting pit for them."
"What's wrong with dad wanting to run his own tav-inn?" Rob asks, tilting his head to the side. "Didn't realize that was such a problem."
"Nothin's wrong with it. But it's a lot of work t keep a place like that running and there's already a few around here. I doubt they'd like more competition," Will says.
William says, "Oh, thought you said he was opening a new one. Takin' over a place that's already here is different, even if he were t change th name."
The stoat laughs. "He's starting one up." he nods. "That tavern has been closed since before you stopped there when you went on your first trip east." he nods. "Dad's just going to buy it, do it up all nice, and reopen." he nods.
William nods, "Ah. Well once Aik had cut himself off from drink we didn't stop much in taverns an pub like we used to. Didn't know th place had closed down. Either it doesn't get many visitors or th old owner had trouble keepin th til full."
"Well, with a vermin tavern right down the road, I'm not surprised that they closed. But, with dad in charge, it will be better." he nods. "And he'll have us to help him out!"
William says, "Hope so. Well he does have two sons t put t work at least. I already have a job ya know. And it aint being a innkeeper."
