Dibbuns in the Infirmary
Characters: Clenal, Flicktail, Storm, Amethyst, Koshi
Location: Redwall Abbey
Redwall Abbey: Infirmary Recovery Room
Clenal walks into the infirmary, the small squirrel dibbun looking around curiously before he noticed the fox. Holding a paw up to his mouth, he walks up to the fox, not yet seeing the rat or otter. Then he just looks at him before saying, "Hi."
Flicktail sits up his 2 arms in slings but feeling stronger now as he walks around the basket that hashis 2 sleeping dibbuns. he looks up at the Squirrel Clenal 'ello" his sword left on his bunk.
Clenal walks slowly over to the basket, looking into it curiously, before looking up to Flicktail with wonder in his eyes. "These your dibbund mister?"
Flicktail nods "that be Luna and Benick" he beams proudly, the 2 little ones snuggling each other in their sleep sucking their paws
Storm looks at the small dibbuns in the basket. " They be very beautiful, Flicktail."
Flicktail says, "thank ya, " he says very proudly his tail flicking "they look loikes Fae, so they be very pretty an handsome."
Clenal smiles as he reaches a paw in, gently petting them but not being so rough that they awaken. "They're foxes like you, huh?" he asks, looking up at Flicktail. "I guess that makes sense, because you're a fox." The small dibbun giggles at his simple statement.
Storm asks "How old are they?"
Flicktail says, "um..a few weeks be all..Fae just gived them to me" he smiles at Fay sleeping in the bunk beside him, the 2 dibbun's fur silken soft and warm as Luna turns and begins sucking on Clebal's thumb"
Storm says, "They will be very strong as they grow I tells you."
Clenal looks surprised by Luna, then looks up at Flicktail. "Um," he says, "sorry, mista but, this one has got my thumb. Uh, what do I do?"
Flicktail chuckles at Clenal as he saysto Storm "how do ye know Storm" and then says to Clenal "it mean sheloikesya,...but you can just gently tug yer thumb out if ye wonts
Storm says," Just look at them grabing things at this tender age."
Clenal giggles as he does as is told, and amazingly the vixen dibbun continues sleeping. "I like her too, mista." Then he looks up at Flicktail smiling. "They're really cute."
Flicktail smiles as his tail wufts Clenal softly "well when me arms get better oi gonna hold em and snugs em...."
Storm says" I agree with you you Clenal, they be very cute."
Flicktail says, "yea loike ther mum."
Clenal looks at the fox's bandaged paws, then walks over to him grabbing hold of his tail as he asks, "Why're your paws hurt?"
Storm says" I heard he got hurt in a fight with vermin, but I'm not shure how long ago."
Clenal smiles and then sits down nearby on the floor, curling up. "They're gonna get better, right?"
Storm says, "All things heal in time young lad."
Storm smiles and sits down, careful not to awaken anyone.
Flicktail says, "Um Storm, could ye get me some tea and a spot o tucker..till me arms get better oi can't do it meself."
Flicktail says, "oh Aye they will be betta."
Amethyst walks into the room switching off with the last healer that was on duty. The blind rat doesn't mind taking night shifts that much. "How are you getting on, Fox?" she asks passing Flicktail's bed. She hasn't noticed the dibbun yet.
Storm asks, "Have you meet Flicktail's dibbuns yet?"
Amethyst says "I have," the rat answers the new voice. "ave t feed em now an then when their Mum an Da can't."
Storm picks up the basket and hands it to Amethyst, "Careful, they're still asleep."
Flicktail says, "it be ok..oi truest Ame..she be a good beast."
The 2 dibbuns begin to stretch their hands searching for anything as they make little whimpers for their food.
Amethyst takes the basket when she hears the twins whimpering. It's heavy but she doesn't have far to carry it. She sits it beside a chair and goes off to get the mush they eat. On her way back she nearly bumps into Clenal. She sighs and bends down to scoop the squirrel dibbun up with her free paw and walks over to the chair. The rat settles down with the squirrel on one side while she cradles a fox babe on the other side and sets to feeding it. She's done this enough that it's routine now, even with the additional squirrel now and then.
Flicktail moves over to sit beside Ame and watch her his tail flicking by her "how have ye been Ame?”
Clenal yawns lightly from the rat's lap as he leans back in the chair, snugged next to her and looks up at her sleepily. "Hi momma," he says.
Amethyst looks over at the fox, "Been fair." She nudges Clenal lightly with her elbow,"This un keeps me busy though. "Yew need anythin Fox?"
Koshi enters the room looking around at his new surroundings.
Clenal laughs up at Amethyst before nodding his head, as if proud of that. "I like having a momma to make busy," the dibbun says with a smile.
Flicktail says, "well you are a fine fellow" Flicktail says to Clenal"
Koshi says "Hi," to Clenal before hiding from Amethyst because he does not want to leave.
Clenal looks up to Flicktail and smiles to the fox. "Thanks mista," he says, then blinks at the other squirrel curiously. "Hi!" he says, then frowns as the squirrel goes off and hides. "Hey, why are ya hiding?"
Flicktail says, "o course ya know that when the Champion wants some Dibbun friends it be ok ta com inif ye be a good fellow"
Koshi says, "I heard dibbuns aren't alowed here and I love hide n seek!"
Amethyst smiles. "Before snow comes you should ave a daddy t keep yew busy. 'less th otters get hold of yew. They might teach yew t skate on th ice. Yer granmum might. Yer daddy's father is sensable enough to stay out of th cold. Few things 'e is senseable about," she says to her son." The new little voice noted but the rat address Clenal rather than Koshi, "Little uns aren't allowed in ere. Only little uns who's folks are laidup or something that means they have t be in ere. Like yew needed t stay with me when no other beast will take yew."
Flicktail says, "oh when oi gets better we will ave to play some.....but ye kin comes in..just be quiets and good."
Koshi says" Oh, I didn't know that." He comes out a looks up at Amethyst and Flicktail. "Do I have to leave?" Koshi says with a frown.
"And don't touch anythin," Amy adds, finally acknowledging Koshi.
Flicktail says, "no come over by me....."
Clenal's eyes widen in wonder as he stares up at his mum rat. "R-Really, momma?" he asks. Then he smiles brightly. "I'm.... I'm gonna have a papa too?"
Koshi says "Ok." with happiness and walks up to Flicktail.
Amethyst tugs at Clenal's ears lightly, having just put both fox twins down to sleep a little longer in their basket. "That's what I've been telling you all this time silly. Don't these work?" she asks shifting him on her lap so she can tickle him.
Koshi says "Who are the likkle foxxies there?" pointing at said basket.
Clenal giggles rather loudly when he's tickled, his ears flicking slightly when they're tugged on. "Sorry momma," he says, smiling as he leans over, hugging her gently. "I just really wanna see him and for it to be cold so he will come home."
Koshi says "SHHH! You might wake the babies."
"Those are the Abbey Champion's dibbuns. Luna an Bennick," Amy answers the other squirrel dibbun. She cuddles Clenal, "I know. I want him to come back soon too. All of them. Even the otters if it would get yer daddy back faster. He'll be very surprised to see you wont he?"
Flicktail smiles to koshi "wot be yer name?"
Koshi says "Koshi, mista." He crawls up the fox's leg and sits on his lap,"What be your name?"
Clenal smiles brightly still at the idea. "I like otters, they like to play." Then he blinks, concerned now. "You think.... he will be ok, being my papa, momma?"
Koshi says "Who?" clearly curious at the talking mother and son.
Amy says, "Of course he will. No reason he shouldn't. And if I'm wrong it's easy enough t fix."
Clenal looks to Koshi smiling to him. "My papa!" he says excitedly. Then he looks a bit tired, snuggling up next to the rat, yawning and closing his eyes. "I'm gonna sleep, ok momma?"
Flicktail says, "well wot be your name" he asks Koshi again with a smile."
Koshi says "Koshi, mista." He crawls up the fox's leg and sits on his lap,"What be your name?"
Amethyst turns her head toward the fox at Koshi's question. "Who what? The fox is Flicktail the Abbey champion. Most beasts aroun ere know im." She pats Clenal a bit, "Go ahead, Clenal. Yew'll wake up in our room inna mornin'."
Flicktail says, "oi be called Flicky..be care o me arms," he says as he makes room for thedibbun on his warm lap.
Koshi yawns before asking "Wot appened to your arms, Flicky?”
Flicktail says, "well a vermin got inna fight wi me and oi ad ta stop im."
Amethyst runs a paw over Clenal's head, down his back and tail as he falls sleep. "Koshi," she warns not bothering to look up, "Yew bother th fox I'll toss yew out in th hall."
Clenal nods before he closes his eyes, keeping close to his mum in the chair as he curls up into her arm, his eyes closing. "K," he says simply. "Goodnight momma," he says, before slowly drifting off to sleep.
Koshi fight back a yawn clearly interested at the fox's story. "Then?" he says.
Flicktail says, "well then oi came here taget better."
Koshi says "Don't hurt me Amethyst."
Flicktail asks, "hurt you?"
Koshi says"She said she was gonna toss little me in the hall."
Flicktail says, "oh oi be sure she would not urt ya lad, she beme bestus friend"
Koshi asks, "Really?"
Amethyst shakes her head at the remaining dibbun. "Koshi, I meant I'd send yew out th room if yew don't behave.”
Flicktail says, "really....see how shetake care o me dibbuns?"
Koshi asks, "Those little babies are yours? They are adorable!" Koshi says the last part softly.
Flicktail says, "aye that be Luna and Benick oi bet when they be older theuy be yer friends"
Amethyst sighs, "Why is listenin somethin dibbuns never do? Yes I said they were last time yew asked about em."
Koshi beams, "Then ill teach 'em to use my deadly weapon, a spoon."
Amethyst says, "Good. Then they'll be able t feed themselves."
Koshi gestures to Amethyst. "I forgot, I’m sorry."
Flicktail nuzzles Koshi gently.
Koshi yawns a 3rd time before stating, "I'm very sleepy."
Koshi closes his eyes and falls asleep quickly.
"Did ee drift off?" Amy asks having not heard from Koshi in a little while.
