Charity....and just being kind...aswell as news from the roads...
FV:Marketplace
This is probally one of the busy areas of Ferravale during mid-day as a couple shops are here selling there wares and an area set for fruits and veggies to be sold and other goods from carts and stands.Guards wander by many times to help keep the peace and make sure laws are not broken. The area is well kept and keep clean. You can stay a while or head back to the center of town.
Exits: [F]erravale [S]pices, [P]awnshop, [F]erravale [B]rewery, [P]ottery [S]hop, [B]akery, [S]eamstress [S]hop, [B]lacksmith [S]hop, [C]arpenter's [S]hop, [N]orth Liam the pine marten. Blisa the cat and Ferdinand the ferret.
The market place is rather busy despite the chill in the air. Winter is most definitely on its way. Off to the side of an ally a scrawny looking pine marten is sitting cross legged and rubbing his arms to keep warm. HE coughs every so often and his stomach growls loud enough to make people think he is snarling at passersby. He has a small wooden cup out in front of him for any to give charity too.
Blisa is wrapped up in her fine blue cloak, and is skipping along beside her bodyguard. She is looking around happily, then slows and tugs on Ferdinands' paw. "Ferdy, look. He looks cold." The ferret turns his head and looks at the pine marten aswell, then nods and continues walking. "Yeth, he doeth. What thould we do?" The kitten doesn't hesitate. "Let's get a cloak!" The guard nods, and they cross the street to the side where the marten is and enter a stall.
Liam catches sight of the small kitten out of the corner of his eye but does not give her any real attention. Why should he? He does how ever give the fish merchant across the street a decent amount of attention. Liam Grey almost drools at the aroma of food.
Blisa and Ferdinand buy a heavy green cloak, then go downa couple of stalls and buy a large bowl of hardy stew. They approach the pine marten and smile. "Hello." The kitten chirrups.
Liam blinks at the tiny kitten and her ferretly body guard. The pine marten is not used to people just walking up to talk with him and instinctively shies away from them a few inches, "Um...hello?" he ventures. Even more odd is the fact the kitten is obviously rich, in his experience rich do not mingle with poor.
Blisa smiles and holds out the new cloak. "You look cold, so I bought this for you. And we got you some stew, too." Ferdinand holds out the bowl and smiles in a friendly fashion.
Say what now? Liam's mind grinds to a halt as a major mental wrench is heaved into it. He is completely stunned by this act of kindness and for once in his life he really does not know what to say, "I...I..." he wipes at his eyes. He is totally not crying right now. Not at all. "Thanks."
Blisa smiles and goes to lay the cloak around the martens' shoulders as her bodyguard sets the bowl in front of him. Passersby slow and watch the Cheiftain's daughter and her bodyguard and their act of kindness, and shame creeps into their hearts. They knew Liam was there; why hadn't they done what was right? Soon almost every beast that passes throws at least a tiny coin into the pine martens' cup, and then they start to do the same to the other beggars in the marketplace...
The Pine marten shivers a bit as the cloak is placed around him. He sees the bowl of food and finely can not resist the urge to tear into it any longer. He picks up the bowl and swallows the stew down in only a few gulps. Finely he sighs in contentment and wipes stew from his snout with his shirt sleeve. "Thank you so much little miss."
The kitten smiles and fights down the urge to get offended at the 'little' comment. She kneels in front of the marten. "You're welcome. My name's Blisa. This is Ferdinand, my bodyguard. What's your name?"
Liam grins deviously, he stands up and makes an extravagant bow to the two beasts. "I am Liam Grey, and very pleased to meet you both." Hands on his hips he tilts his head curiously to the left, "Body guard eh? And prey tell why a sweet and kind kitten like you would need a bodyguard?"
Blisa stands and courtesies. "Scioto, the Cheiftain of Ferravale, is my Daddy. And beasts are always trying to kidnap me, it seems, so I have a bodyguard." Ferdinand nods politely, but his smiles fades a little at the devious smile from the marten.
The devious smile fades a bit at the mention of 'cheiftain' and 'daddy'. "Then you have my most sincere appologies Miss Blisa. I am new in town so I did not recognize you." he nods his head and says, "Rest assured that I am not one of those villainous vermin varments who goes around kidnapping chieftan's daughters. Especially when they take care of me so well!" he laughs, giving his now full stomach a pat. "That was very kind of you. You're pappa would be proud."
Blisa giggles at the varments comment, then simply smiles. "It's alright. I wasn't expecting you to recognize me. And I'm glad you're not one of those types....that would make me sad." She blushes slightly at the idea of her father being proud. That makes her happy. "Are you good at anything? I'm sure you could get a job somewhere."
Liam rubs his chin in thought, "I guess you could call me a jack of all trades but master of none. I can do most of anything really and willing to try those things that I can't. But mostly I like the open road and traveling." he shrugs, "But the roads are not too safe these days."
Blisa is full cat, so curiosity takes over with a vengeance. "Why wouldn't the roads be safe any more? I mean, they were never totally safe, but what makes them less safe?" Ferdinand has been quiet so far, but now he nods. Well, okay, he doesn't say anything, he just nods, but now he's interacting and not just listening.
Liam smirks, waving a paw idly in the air he continues, "Well I was traveling with this small caravan from the east. While we were going through the woods we were jumped by a gang of woodlanders. Mice, squirrels, voles, etc. They didn't have much in the way of weapons or armor but each wore a red bandanna or scarf around their face. They let the non vermin members of our party pass without incident but held up the rest of us. They were going to just turn us away, but some idiot in our group tried to start a fight and things...turned ugly."
Blisa frowns and bounces slightly on her toes, two completely unrelated movements. "That's odd...why would they do that?" Ferdinand coughs slightly and finally speaks, saying thus; "Probably prejudice. I don't know why."
"Probibly," the pine marten nods in agreement. "I didn't really stop to ask them. Spears and bows may not be as fancy as swords and shields but they get the job done." Liam sighs deeply, "I managed to escape but, the others..." he looks to small kitten and thinks about what he says next, "Well, they didn't escape. I was chased deep into the woods for I don't know how long. I ...I thought they had me cornered but..."
Blisa frowns. "I'm sorry. At least you're safe here, right?" Ferdinand nods, then looks around, noting the unnerving fox over there who's been eyeing the small group since they began talking. He doesn't like th elooks of that one...
Liam laughs, "Of course. But..." he rubs the back of his neck and hesitates to continue, "Those woodlanders, militia I think they called themselves. Strangest thing happened," He sighs, "As I was running something...something plowed into them. I heard screaming and shouting and fighting. After a while I ...went to investigate and found the beasts after me were taken out by a snake. A very...very large snake." he makes gesturers as he describes the beast, "It was huge! with one blind eye and...and old weapons sticking out of its back. Thankfully it didn't know I was there and it just slithered off after killing the last militia member." Shaking his head Liam continues, "Oddest thing though. It didn't eat any of them. Just sort of...crushed or killed them and left them there. Why would a snake do that?"
Blisa shudders and hops up and down a little. "I like snakes. Maybe it wasn't hungery nad just didn't like those woodlanders. Maybe they were the ones who made him blind and hurt his back by leaving the weapons there." Ferdinand frowns, then takes Blisa by th epaw. "I think we thould go. It wath good meeting you, Thir. Good evening." And with that good-bye, he leads his little charghe off, hoping the creepy fox dude won't follow...
