A Mothers Lament
Characters: Garnet, Kentar
Location: Moledeep; Kitchen
Garnet is hovering over a stove, trying to make a cake with a frying pan. Get it. Pan-cake? No. Fine then. She hums to herself lightly and sprinkles a little something over it, before giving it an expert flip, "Alle-oup!" she chuckles.
Kentar has been avoiding Garnet since he was told about Anba having escaped. And, so has Chris. He gave him his first weapon the other day, a dagger that belong to Kentar's dad. Both stoats have been waiting for the right time to tell Garnet, and after Kentar spies Garnet near the stove, he figures now is a good time. "Hey love." he greets quietly.
Garnet hums lightly going to plate the dish, before turning around, "Oh. Hello Kenty..." she smiles at him before holding out the dish under his nose, "Here! Try this..."
Kentar huhs and blinks at the dish, nodding. He gives it a sniff before grabbing a fork and trying some of whatever it is. "Mm...Not bad." he smiles.
Garnet smiles, "Good. I found use for Aik's gross hardtack. They make nice pancakes!" she grins before going over to peck, "Hello Love. Been getting into trouble?"
Kentar chuckles a bit and then sighs. "Garnet." he says. "I haven't been. Not yet." The stoat motions for her to have a seat. "Sit down. You'll just end up falling over."
Garnet tilts her head at him. Kentar is not normally like this, "Uh. Okay..." she goes to sit on her stool, "What is it Kentar? What be the matter?" she goes to sit on her paws.
Kentar sighs and leans in to give her a long kiss before sighing. "That fox...that evil fox that the abbey had locked up has gotten loose." he frowns even more, sitting down himself. "And we're getting ready for him incase he should show himself around here."
Garnet mmms softly at the kiss before crossing her eyes for a split second, "He escaped?..." she looks down and tries to block out images, "No... No... No no no no no!" her eyes begin to water, "...What... What are... are you doing to get ready?" she already knows. It makes since what's been happening over the past few days.
Kentar leans out to hug her tightly. "Aik is moving the training up. We'll be starting in a few days. Kluna, Fira, Will, Robin...Chris...and I will be a part of it." he sighs. "I know you don't want Christopher to train with us like this, but he has to. He's old enough to hold a weapon, and we need him." he nods, hugging her tightly.
Garnet slowly nods and winces when he says that about Chris, "My baby..." and she closes her eyes leaning on Kentar, "I... I... I want you to look after him... i knew this day would come... A mothers nightmare..." tears flow down her cheek, "...I cant do this..."
Kentar hugs her even tighter now, still careful not to crush his wife or anything like that. "I will keep him safe. Nothing will ever hurt him I promise." he almost cries himself, but manages to fight it back. "Listen to me...you can do this. We all can. Aik will never let anything happen to any of us. He, Robin, Will and I will keep this place and everyone in it safe." he nods.
Garnet nods, very slowly, "I... I hope you're... right..." she shakes her head slowly, "... I need some water...."
Kentar nods quickly and lets go, going to the pitcher of cold water that was on the table, pouring her a glass quickly before bringing it to her. "Here."
Garnet takes the glass and just holds it in her paws, "When i was younger. I has told stories of young boys going off to battle. Heroes. But. Some never returned. And their mothers grieved for weeks. I has always thought that, that would never happen to me. Not to my young... And here we are..." she sighs, "...I am not strong enough... He is my flesh and blood. If something were to happen to him... I hope your right." she begins to shake.
Kentar sighs and nods slowly. "That was me many seasons ago. I'd go off, leave my mother behind, but I'd always come back. Chris is my son. He'll be the same. I know it. He may leave. But in my heart I know he'll always come back to you." he smiles softly. "I'd give my life before his. Trust me. Please."
Garnet sniffs quietly, "I hope you right. And hopefully it wont have to come to that..." she is very quiet. For a long time, "... I don't think i could lose you either..." she still leaves the water, untouched, "This is all just... so... overwhelming..."
Kentar nods and then frowns. "We wouldn't have to be like this if that good for nothing group of habit wearing mice at the abbey had have killed him when they had him locked up." he frowns.
Garnet looks up, "They are just following what has been passed down... Should have let his fate up to otters... Quick judgment for him..." she sighs, "... But. We mustn't be blaming them... even though they are in the wrong... If my son dies. They will be in debt..." she looks down.
Kentar frowns. "If anyone hurts anyone of us because they didn't do the right thing, I, personally, will make them pay for it." he growls before sitting back down, trembling slightly in anger.
Garnet nods, "Thank you. That... doesn't make me feel any better. But i guess. Nothing wont, until that fox is dead and gone..." she sighs and takes a slow sip, "...This is terrible..." she hands it to Kentar.
Kentar nods slowly and sighs. "I don't care what it takes." he says standing up slowly. "I'll kill that fox. If its the last thing I ever do." The stoat calmly nods and heads for the door.
Garnet gets up from her stool and runs over to him, "Wait... Please dont go after him. If he kills you... Just dont! Stay here.... You are needed here more, Kentar..." she holds onto him.
Kentar hums a little as he feels dragged down. The stoat looks towards Garnet and smiles softly. "I won't go after him. I'm not stupid love. He'd tare me to shreds. He already killed me once remember." he was about to laugh until memories of drifting at sea came rushing back.
Garnet hugs him tightly, "Thank you, for not being stupid..." she smiles up at him, "Im glad to know that you will be here. I need you..."
Kentar chuckles a bit and then hugs her back, nodding slowly. "I'll be here. I will always be here." he smiles softly, closing his eye and sighing.
Garnet smiles and noses him slowly. Not saying anteing. But she doesn't think anything needs to be said. She just holds onto him, her head buried in his shoulder.
Kentar hugs her tightly some more before letting go. "I'm going to go find Robin. I've got a favor to ask of him." he nods, slowly going to slip out of her grip to go find Robin.
Garnet holds onto him for a bit longer, before letting go and kissing him, "Alright then..." she smiles and nods, "Ill make your favorite tonight... And the others can have pancakes..." she chuckles, before going back over to the stove, wiping her face with her apron.
