The Battle for the Sand Fort

It's early morning again. The sky has cleared up exceptionally over the past few days. Its still sprinkling, but hardly enough for anybeast to really notice. Aikuen the otter has left the surgeons tent for fresh air and comfort from the inside. All his emotions have converged, and he is still feeling a mixture of depression and happiness, all swirled into one. Its an odd feeling. But one that can set the otter off an any moment. He goes over to the shoreline and stops just above it, to sit and ponder. Which the otter does a lot now.

Will is once again walking along the beach, his boots making a easy to follow trail in the wet sand. The rat climbs up a large bolder, one of many, to sit and watch the waves a while. Amy isn't with him today she'd stayed behind to play with Chris.

Aikuen doesn't notices the rat at all. All he can see are the waves of the sea, almost lapping his crossed legs. The otter has picked up a few large stones to toss at the water sometimes in frustration, but most are just for fun, "See yah stony!" and he tosses one as far as he possibly can east into the water. There is a faint plop as the rock meets water.

Will can see the otter from his perch and watches the rocks hit the water for a bit before sliding off the bolder and down between it and another taller one where some pebbles had collected. If it wasn't still raining he might have enjoyed his new found hiding place, as it is he fills a pocket with a pawful or two of the pebbles and wonder if this was really such a good idea since he isn't quiet sure if he'll be able to climb back up since this side of the bolder is higher than the one he'd climbed to get on it in the first place. Not wanting to chance a fall he pokes around to see if one of the gaps in the boulders leads will lead back out to the shore.

Aikuen is still very unaware of everything around him. Something he enjoys. His little pile of stones has shrunk to a even littler pile, and he frowns. He takes a deep breath and does something else. And what does a 21 season old otter do? Why, he makes sand castles of course! He is not very good at it, but the damp sand does make it easy for him. He builds a small fort, and places the rest of the pebbles as troop placements, and he starts to talk to the pebbles, "Alright gentle beasts... we have to defend this fort from the enemy! Can we do it!?" he picks up a little one, and speaks for it, "Aye aye. Captain..." he chuckles sadly

Will wanders through the gaps between the towering boulders and after a three dead ends and two last minute changes in direction he finds a gap that he can squeeze through but it's narrow so he'd have to go sideways though it. He sits down on the damp sand to one side of the opening and peek out of it to see if it even leads to where he wants to go. He grins as it does lead out to the shore and what is this? There is a sand fort in his line of sight. He can't pass this up and slowly empties the pebbles from his pocket and throws one at Aikuen's fort. He waits a minute and throws another and a few seconds later a third. Since there is a little space to sit out of sight on either side of the gap and it's so narrow he is well protected from rocks that may be throw back at him. He waits a bit longer and starts throwing pebbles every so often at the fort in an effort to destroy it.

Aikuen hums to himself as he sits by his fort, moving his archers to the north, and his slinger's to the south. He was about to 'order' the swordsmen, to get a break, when a rock bounces off the ground, and lands just shy of the wall. He blinks at it, and shrugs. Random. Then another one, this one even closer. He looks at it, and gives a quick look around. He sees nothing out of the ordinary, "Thats odd..." he shrugs it off again. Then another rock plants itself right in the wall, 'killing' two of the archers. Aik blinks and looks at the direction the rock was thrown. He laughs and says, "Oh no. The enemy is here! Beasts! Get the trebuchet ready..." he picks up on the bigger ones, "Aye aye sir! Setting degrees at 30, by 30..." and he picks up on of his stones, "Let em' have it!" He makes a fachinging sound, and chucks it in the direction of Will.

Will eeps and ducks back into his 'fort' as the rock comes at him. The rock hits the side of one of boulders and bounces off of it to land harmlessly on the sand. "Missed!" Will yells back pleased with this. He tries to throw a very small pawful of pebbles at the fort when he sees an opening and then ducks back to safety around the corner.

Aikuen was expecting the rock to miss. At least he hopes so, then his entire fort is pelted with pebbles, "ARGH! BEASTS! They are using monguls! There is no way we can win against there power!" he points to the biggest troop, his troop leader, "Order the Elders... women and children and their husbands to begin evacuation to the south. The rest of us will continue to hold out the fort as long as we can! And meet up with you later! Prepare the trebuchet again! And make it a duster..." he grins and makes a tight dirt clod. Another fachinging sound, and the clod it off!

Will chuckles at the otter's 'orders' and pokes his head out of the gap in the boulders to watch the rock beasts running away. He jerks back to dodge too late as the dirt clod hits him. He coughs as the air around him him fills with sand from the impact. "Hey!" he coughs out annoyed and quickly shots off pawful after pawful of pebbles back at the fort and for whatever reason not at the otter. Will's very quickly running out of rocks and will soon have find some more or 'surrender'.

Aikuen becomes a little alarmed, as he didn't mean to hit Will. But it looks like it didn't do much damage. But now the otter knows not to toss anymore rocks at his son. Too much fear involved for the otter right now. He continues playing on with the evacuation, "The duster just made them mad, Captain! They are overwhelming us. The losses are more then we expected. I recommend that we burn the fort and leave..." Aik puts on a solemn face, "Make it so sergeant... Make it so..." he nods. The little rocks evac. from the fort. Except for one little rock, his catapult commander, "Jim... Light the fires...

"No wait! Reinforcements are arriving! Keptan' Kentar is leading em'." Kentar grins, coming along the beaches, being pushed by Robin in his wheeled chair, the stoat putting on a pretty good Russian accent. Robin pushes him right up to Aik, Kentar quickly handing down two pawfuls of rocks that Robin got him when he saw what was going on. "'Ere Kaptain Aikuen. Your battle brigade has arrived!" he laughs.

Aikuen was about to destroy the fort when the other captain arrives. He chuckles and says, "Comrade Kentar! Bout time you showed for da party!" he laughs in his own Russian accent. He puts the pebbles back into order on the fort, "Now wif this lot, we can remove them from da motherland..." he grins, "Prepare our monguls!" he puts a few into Kentar's lap, "Your the mongul..." he chuckles.

"Me!? Why meeee!?" The stoat laughs. "Your then mongul, I'm the guy who gets to command the fort!" he grins before pointing at Aik. "Get 'em boys!" And almost magically, the rocks, gently, fly off his lap and towards Aik. Slowly and if they hit, they'll only tickle

Aikuen points out, "You got wheels! Silly! I don't! And WHAT! I have seniority over you, comrade! I command this fort!" he grins and is attacked by the flying rocks. He falls to the ground in heap and jokes, "Oh you traitorous traitor! I knew never to trust you! And I did! Now look!" he points to the one rock that is still under his command, "Burn them alive Jim... I'm counting on you..." and then, Aik dies epicly... and laughs.

Kentar grins and says epicly "Des vidania comrade." he laughs before watching Aik die, the stoat starting to laugh even more. Really made his day. That alone.

Aikuen blinks up at him, "What you say? You know i had a hard enough time learning English. Cut me some slack on the other languages!" he laughs, and sits back up, taking Jim in his paw.

Kentar laughs a little and smirks a little. "It means goodbye." The stoat laughs and slowly shakes his head. "I think it does anyways." The stoat shrugs before grinning. "So, Aik. Having fun?"

Aikuen tilts his head, and decides just to forget the words. Too much to remember. The otter smiles and looks behind him at where Will is. He hasn't attacked yet, so he may be hiding. Aik shrugs, "I'm doing okay. Better than yesterday anyways...

Will had gone to get more pebbles, this time filling both his pockets before returning to his post and resuming his onslaught upon the sand fort.

Kentar nods and laughs a bit. "Good to hear, Aik." he smiles then blinks as rocks start to fly to the fort. "Ahoy! On guard men! Stand ready! Attack!" They all fly towards Will.

Aikuen smiles and sits back to watch the fight now. He doesn't want to toss anymore rocks. Too much fear. Except at the ocean. He hug one knees and watches the fight for now.

Will ducks back in and the rocks bounce off the boulders again. He waits a little and then he's back to throwing pawfuls of pebbles again. He hasn't yet noticed Aik isn't playing anymore.

Kentar chuckles and then pauses when he spots Aik hug one knee and just watch. The stoat drops his pebbles and tilts his head. "Something wrong Aik?" he asks.

Aikuen shakes his head, "No. Just don't throw rocks anymore. I already hit him on accident. And. And i don't want too again. So, I'm just going to stop. You can continue if yah want too. I wont stop yah!" he chuckles.

Will hasn't noticed anymore rocks coming his way so he poke his head out to see what's going on. "Battle over?" he asks puzzled.

Kentar looks towards Aik and then hrms before shrugging. He grins at the rat and nods. "Yeah, battles over." he laughs a little bit before yawning slightly. Tired him out.

Will drops the pawfull of pebbles he'd been holding and edges out of his hiding place. "Ok," he says and grins a little when the otter calls Kentar a traitor. "You sure you're ok, Pa?" he asks now walking over to sit with Aikuen and watch the waves again.

Kentar laughs and grins evilly. "Yeah, I'm a traitor. What more do you want?" He laughs.

Aikuen smiles at Will, "I'm fine. Just a little... blah..." as Fira puts it. He also goes to watch waves as well. He laughs at the stoat, "Nothing mate. Nothing at all!" he chuckles.

Kentar chuckles and grins at Aik. "Ah, you'll be fine." he smirks a little bit. "And good. Cause you ain't getting anything."

Aikuen nods a little bit and stands, "Ill be fine... Just need a little time... alone and stuff..." he sighs. The otter runs toward the ocean and dives in quickly. He is an otter, what do you expect. He gets pretty far out and he goes to float on his back. He rubs his face. Stupid shared emotions. But he will get over it. One way or another.

Will is splashed as the otter dives but doesn't much care. He watches Aik pop back up and float around. The rat shrugs figuring it's an otter thing and he'll leave it at that. "You two doing ok with your new chair?" he asks Kentar slicking his fur down to rid himself of the excess water.

Kentar chuckles as Aik unknowingly splashes Will. "Silly otter." he smirks then shrugs. "Doing great!" he smiles. Robin shrugs. "Hard to push him around with one arm." he holds up his arm that's in the sling. "Heh, but I guess you know that." he smiles.

Will nods, "It gets easier if you do it enough." He's bored again and has started to dig in the damp sand, seeing it doesn't refill itself like when it's dry pleases him and he starts to burrowing just because though it's slow going now with only the one arm.

Kentar chuckles and grins. "Yeah. I guess it does, eh Robin? Means you need to practice." The stoat laughs and then watches Will, settling back into his chair and then yawning.

Will has managed to dig out a small hole in the sand, just big enough for him to fit in but it's not very deep yet. "That award thing for Pa is coming up and two day after that we're heading home right? Robin, you'll get lots of practice in then."

Kentar nods a bit before smiling a bit. "Yeah. That's tomorrow." he says before scratching his ear. "I think that um. We're going home tomorrow after that." the stoat nods slightly.

Will nods, "Ok. Good." He's not bothering to hide it, the sooner they can head back the better in his opinion.

Kentar nods and chuckles a bit. "If it makes you feel better, Garnet and I really want to go home too." he nods.

Will smiles a little, "Good. We've been here a long time. It'll be good t get back home and see everyone at th Abbey."

Kentar hms and chuckles a little, nodding. "I'm sure it will." the stoat smiles before yawning again.

"Are you not sleeping good?" Will asks Kentar, "You're sure yawning and tired alot."

Kentar shakes his head. "I haven't slept well at all since we got back." he says. "Very tired."

"What's wrong?" the rat asks, this doesn't sound normal or good to him.

Kentar shrugs a little bit. "Scared at night." he says. "Nightmares. Scared they're going to come back and take her away." he says, meaning Garnet. "Just. Scared." he nods.

Will nods, ".... They're bad. ..... After a while. .... A long while they go away ..... so far." He speaks from experience, "A season maybe three. They won't come as often after that long not if nothing bad happens." The rat smiles a little, "But we're too stubborn t die an you won't let it kill you. I haven't."

Kentar nods. "I know. I know. I've had them long time before." he says. "When my first wife died." He shakes his head once. "I'll be fine. Anyways. I'm going to bed." he smiles a little. "See you tomorrow Will." he says as Robin starts to push him back to the tent.

Will nods and smiles, "Ok. It'll pass like th last time then. And you'll be able t sleep again. Night, Kentar. Robin." Will waves at the stoats still not moving from the shallow pit he's dug himself in the sand, not yet anyway.
