Zen is sitting by the fireplace, staring off into it as usual, thinking his own thoughts. He fidgets
with his paws a little, seeming to have a round object in his paws. He then twitches a little bit.
Jo walks into the room stretching his arms as he walks, after juggling for a long while he is a little sore and out of practice, now he is getting back into shape to perform what he did best so long ago. now staring at zen curiously.
Zen doesn't notice Jo enter the room, but it's obvious now that he's looking over the pendant he was given. He holds it gently in his paws and turns it one way and then another, his eyes glancing at it carefuly. Jo's gift.....
Jo raises an eyebrow and leans against the doorframe. "my dad gave that to me a long time ago you know...."
Zen's ears perk as he turns and spots Jo, a little surprized but not for more than a few seconds. "Oh... he dids? I-I see..." He thinks of what he said last pertaining to Jo's family and falls silent.
Jo nods. "he died along with my mother and the other beasts in my village..." he pauses.
"............in a vermin raid"
Zen sighs a little, then turns back to the fire. He seems to tune out what was being said. He doesn't say a word. Instead, he puts the pendant back into one of his inner pockets.
Jo laughs a little.
"you know what i did when i got away with my life?..."
Zen continues to ignore Jo, bitting his lip a little...
Jo shakes his head a little for he knows what zen is doing.
"I joined the noonvale traveling companions troupe.....they took me in and pretty much saved me from starvation..."
Zen continues to try and ignore Jo, gazing at the fire. Slowly, his gaze though drifted away from the flames. He starts to gaze at the floor.
The otters eyes sadden a little.
"zen they took pity on me just as redwall did for you....and you have made friends, i saw through what some call a demon and a became a friend for ye' "
Zen seems to be deaf conciderig he's still ignoring Jo. It was obvious though that he was listening when he shook his head sideways a little. He didn't like what he was hearing. All the time, something was happening to someone. If it wasn't him, it was his best friend. Either way, he didn't want to hear anything like this anymore.
Jo sighs. "i know you dont like hearin' this...and you don' have to think bout' it.......the past has many lessons to learn from, just like a rose has thorns, but sometimes its best to not look round' in that room of pain...." He then walks over to zen, sits down and embraces him.
"The ones who took me in were and still are just like those here at redwall, more than willing to be my friend, just like you are my cousin...." The light that glares at the tapestry of martin, would seem to be glowing just a bit brighter than normal.
"just like im your cousin...." jo grins.
Zen sighs softly and shakes his head. "Don... don' be me cousin... I-I...." He shakes his head a little and sighs, "All me family seems to leaves..."
Jo hugs zen closer and shakes his head. "remember im not leavin' ye', its been built into me mind, loyalty and trust, faith, heh friendship and family, nothins' gonna' make me go away..."
Zen nods a little and closes his eyes, leaning into Jo a little.. "Ok.. I-I.. I hopes so..."
" all cuz' of that hare, the leader of our troupe, and my parents.....but now i have new family....and what if you went away? i would be sad..." the otter says.
"............then i would run away from here to find ye'......" jo says with a grin.
Zen shakes his head a little, but remains quiet... He glances back at the flames, thinking a little to himself as his eyelids droop a little.
Jo starts humming the land lubbers lament just for the sake of remembering the tale of the high rulain herself.
The novice shakes his head. "the circus was fun though....jumpin', flippin', always jokin' and laughin', but i needed a break so they gave me food and water, and what they gave me when i joined them...."
Jo sways back and forth, rocking zen also. "heh great bunch o' good beasts...."
The otter pats zen on the head softly as the little mouse falls asleep.
He then stares up at the tapestry of martin the warrior. "Oh martin please help him, i know im helpin' but....i want him to be just like the dibbuns in the abbey, care free and adventurous." shakes his head. "free from the clutches of the past........"
A slight breeze that smells of the sweet rose seems to pass through the greathall, filling the otter with a warm feeling, and with wonder. "Th-thank ye' martin for showin' me that your there....." he then grins widely.
