Reviving Moledeep: Planting the Crops

Characters: Fira, Aikuen, Will, Kentar, Garnet(spoof)

Location: Moledeep

Mole Hall

Fira is still trying to learn her way about the place. She's poked in a couple of doors earlier in the day and taken a look round outside and finally she's back again, an arm full of roots she scavenged from the woods nearby

Aikuen is at the table with the belt and pouches of seeds. There are several lines of different seeds in front of him, in the form of grid pattern, a simple diagram of the garden he will be planting. He looks to Fira,smiles, and waves "Hey!" as he moves one line of seeds to another.

Fira brightens up when she sees the other otter "Hey. Busy planning out the garden then?" putting her roots down on the table well away from his seeds as she speaks.

Aikuen nods and admires his work so far, "Oh Aye! Getting all of our veggies..." He points to 4 rows of different lines of seeds, "...Then all the rest, which the gardener at the abbey got me..." He points the 6 other rows, "Still have no idea what they are... Heh!" He looks up and espies the roots, "You rooting it out?" He chuckles.

Fira smirks faintly "So long as they're tasty who cares what they are?" she looks the plans over soon as he's not talking for a moment, answering his question at the same time though "Heh, you wander a wood, see things. Just have to bring this stuff back."

Aikuen gets up and walks slowly over to Fira, planting a kiss on her, "Hey, why not! We are gonna need food 'till the garden comes in! Your just thinking ahead..." He taps his noggin, and laughs.

Fira smirks and puts an arm round his back, lightly going to flop against his side, though not too much because of his leg "More a force of habit. Never farmed, always gathered. Happy to help keep us fat though."

Will comes in from the storage chamber. He waves at the otters as he takes a seat at the table and looks over Aikuen's garden plan. "You clear room in th garden for all th seeds yet?" he asks Aikuen.

Aikuen gives Fira a Squeeze, "Hey, If your habit keeps us full... It can never be a bad one..." He smiles and looks to Will, "I finished it this morning, its a little odd looking at the moment. its a little hard to work a hoe with only one arm. But it is ready to be planted" He leans against her a little bit.

Fira looks round Aikuen when she spots Will come in "Hey" glancing briefly between the two of them "Should have given me a prod, would have given you a paw...Guess it's all ready for planting now though?"

Will nods before going off to the sleeping hall, he returns after a short while with a few yellowed sheets of paper, a quill and a half full bottle of ink. He lays the papers out to across from the seeds and slowly starts to copy the pattern as best he can. He doesn't say anything while he's working on it.

Aikuen smirks and 'prods' Fira in the ribs, "Well thanks for offering... But its pretty much all ready... and i will need help with the planting and watering!" He looks to Wills and the paper, and tilts his head, "You don't have to copy the pattern... I got the general idea for what I want!"

Will looks up and shrugs, "Don't think it'd hurt none. We gonna start on it now?"

Fira sticks her tongue out and swings away at the prod, obviously faking pain "Urk, you got me" she's fine and back at Aik's side smirking a second later though.

Aikuen laughs, "I'm ready as I'll ever be!" He picks up the belt and placing it over his shoulder, and looks back to Fira, "Hey! Then I'll just have to get you again!" He laughs, as he doesn't do anything but brings her closer.

Fira grins back to Aik "You'll have to catch me later. Alas now we have gardens to sort out" keeping close to give him a hand walking and just because.

Aikuen nods and chuckles as he is walked out, "Aye! To the gardens!" He points to the entrance, "...But keep a look out... Ill get you...when you least... EXPECT IT!" He gives her a kiss and laughs as he is lead out. He yells back to Will, "Come on matey! There are seeds to shell out!"

Fira snerks and wanders on off outside "If there's one thing I'm used to it's getting snuck up on and surprised."

Aikuen shrugs and smiles, "Well i cant help it! Your just so much fun to sneak up on!" He laughs, "Don't you think surprises are great... There so... Surprising!" He walks on after her, heading to the outside also.

Will sets the ink and quill aside as he grabs the half finished copy of the plans and follows the otters out to the gardens.

Garden

When you enter the garden you first recognize that the patch of rotting vegetables have been all removed and ten not so neat rows are dug up, ready for planting. The rotted plants are in a basket off to the side. Aikuen walks up to it and says, "Well its not neat looking but it'll hold the plants fine all the same!"

Fira wrinkles her nose at the smell of the rotting vegetables "Future compost I see...Any tools about the place?"

"There's tools in th shed over there," Will point to the wooden shack, "Most th bucket aren't any good though."

Aikuen nods, "Aye! Over there... But we don't need buckets at the moment... until we start watering" He takes the belt and pulls off three of the pouches, "If i remember correctly, these are the first three rows... Now do you beasts know how to plant?"

Will nods, "Yep." He holds out his paw for some of the seeds and instructions on where to plant them.

Fira follows the points to note the shack for future reference. Aikuen's question causes her to tilt her head "Is there much past dig a hole, put stuff in it, fill in hole again?"

Aikuen smirks at Fira, "That's the general idea... Just keep the seeds about a paw lengths apart from each other, other then that your all are experts at planting" He hods out a pouch for Will, "These are leeks, plant them on the third row. I got my tomatoes there for the first. and here is Fira's Onions, they go on the second row." He walks over to the first row, and kneels down carefully.

Will takes the leek seeds and walks over to the third row and begins to plant the seeds.

Fira nods slowly and takes the onions "Simple enough then" giving the other two a glance before she crouches down by the second row, following what they do and pretty much doing the same.

Aikuen keeps a bunch of seeds in his paw, and uses a claw to poke the holes as he moves along the row, and drops one in at a time. He does this quickly and efficiently, like he has done this before. He would be done really quick if it wasn't for the fact that he has to kneel awkwardly, and move slowly. But eventually he finishes, "In a few weeks time, i need to plant stakes for the vines... for my food" He smiles and looks to the others to see their progress.

Will is finishes his row and wipes his paws off on his trousers and looks up at Aikuen, "Done with these. What's next?"

Fira starts off quite slow but once she's got into a rhythm she's soon catching the other two up again. Finishing just a minute after Will "There, onions are done."

Aikuen rubs his dirty paws together, "Now just grab another pouch, and do the same thing to the next row... Since i have no clue what they are... Plant them on any row, and we'll figure out what they need to grow, later... Just make sure, you don't plant twice on the same row" He stands up walks back to the belt, he left at the beginning, "I think the broken buckets could come in handy for watering after all!" he laughs

Fira and Will each grab a bunch of seed and start on the next two rows, digging hole, putting seeds in, patting dirt over them and on til the rows are done

Aikuen says, "Aye good job... I'll start on the watering..." He smiles and walks toward the shed and pulls out one of the rotted buckets. He takes it and goes to the well next to the dirt path, after filling the bucket, which begins to leak in odd places, he walks back to the rows and swings the bucket slowly over the recently planted rows. The leaks are good for something!

Will jumps out of the way as water splashes him, "Hey! Your supposed t water th garden not me!" he laughs ducking out of the way.

Aikuen laughs and sprinkles a little more on Will, "Its a just a light shower!" He tosses a little bit more, before he gets to the end of the row, and drops the empty bucket, and he follows along with it. He sighs and wipes the back of his paw on his forehead, "Summer is almost here... a few more days... just a few more days" He smiles, and watches the others, "Don't work yourself too hard... come on take a break!" He laughs and pats the shady area around him.

Fira walks over and sits down next to Aikuen. Will plops down on his other side and lays down.

Aikuen takes Fira's paw, and settles against her. She flops down against his side, and closing her eyes. Aikuen chuckles and looks to Will, "Do you know if either of you, planted the orange looking seeds?"

Will thinks a bit, "I think Fira did. Why?"

Aikuen smiles, "Those are the Hotroot seeds! I know they will need more water then the others. Need to be constantly damp, but not until they have sprouted. I think a whole row of Hotroot will be enough? Eh?" He laughs, and nudges Will.

Will grins, "It might be ... we can plant more if it isn't." He chews on his lip a little, "Summer'll be here in few days? When in th summer are you an Fira gonna get married?"

Aikuen looks To Fira, and she shrugs. He chuckles, "Don't know mate! Could be... anytime from the first day of summer... too a few weeks from now... It all depends on what happens..." He looks away from Fira so she doesn't see, "Soon I hope!"

Will nods, "Sooo are we done out here, we have more t do?"

Aikuen holds out his claws as he counts off what they have done, "Lets see... We planted the ten rows... and also watered them... We need to clean up the tools and put them back... so they don't rot also... Um... Other then that, i thinks that's it... unless there is something I'm forgetting..." He mumbles and counts it off again, just to make sure.

And now, Garnet and Kentar arrive into the gardens! Kentar seems to be walking a heck of a lot better, but there's still a hint of a limp and he's still using the cane, but Garnet is no longer helping him. "Good evening." he nods to the group, heading over with Garnet close behind.

Aikuen and Fira both wave, and say in unison, "Hey!" They smirk at each other and Fira goes back to leaning against him. Aikuen on the other paw says, "Kentar, How are you feeling mate... You look loads better!" He bounces Fira's paw in his own.

Kentar smiles and nods. "I feel loads better." he smiles. "My limp is almost...gone." the stoat smiles. Garnet just sits next to Fira as Kentar sits next to Aikuen. "I'm so happy. I might be able to run again. Unlike the healers at the abbey said."

Will had sat up when the stoats arrived and moved over closer to Aikuen when Kentar had sat down. "That's great, Kentar. We just finished planting th garden. It doesn't look like much yet but soon we'll have lots of food growing out here."

Aikuen smiles, "That's great to hear mate! Your healing quite quickly... I'm impressed!" He pats the stoat on the shoulder, "And as Will said, we just finished... Looks like you got out of work this time! But don't worry there is a lot of watering to do!" He laughs.

Kentar chuckles a bit. "My paws are still sore as anything...and my claws are slowly starting to grow back." he looks them over. "Not quite as bad as it was though. And I still have a huge headache but other then that, I feel great. I probably wouldn't need to use my cane anymore but I'm still using it just in case." he smiles, looking to Will. "Yeah, it is great." he smiles.

Will watches the other a while, "What are we doing now? There's still two more gardens and th inside but we can do those another day if we have to .... Is it too late or do you still want t see th smithy, Kentar?" he asks.

Aikuen scratches his head, "Well I don't want to mess with the rose garden... Until i get some flower seeds... As for the Dibbuns gardens, i wont use it unless we have to... And im tired...So I'm done for the day" He looks To Fira, to get confirmation.

Kentar nods slowly and chuckles a bit. "Yeah. The Smithy can wait for tomorrow evening I guess." he nods. "So...aside from planting, anything interesting happen?" he asks.

Will nods, "Maybe Racky an I can do somethin with th dibbun's garden tomorrow or somethin." To Kentar he says, "Ya don't have t clean it now just askin if ya want t walk over an look at it. Nothing else happened, plantin took most of th day."

Aikuen yawns, and leans his head onto Firas, "Aye... We're tired... We... We can...can do stuff tomorrow... we're just gonna take a nap..." He sighs, and closes his eyes

Kentar chuckles a bit and nods, yawning slightly. "Yeah...I know. And I have a little trip to take..." he looks to Aikuen. "Tomorrow. So." he yawns. He'd told Garnet he needed to go somewhere to get his weapon sharpened so she's got no clue where he is really going.

"I'm not tired ... not very. Th smithy isn't far from th tunnel and we'll be goin back that way anyway soon," the rat says hoping to change the stoat's mind.

Aikuen yawns again, nodding mostly to himself about the trip Kentar is taking. He chuckles, as he settles in to Fira, and begins to snore. Fira smirks to herself, and settles into his side, closing her eyes as well. There both soon asleep.

Kentar watches the otters and chuckles. "Big ol'e sleepy rudders." he smirks before yawning himself. "Merh...heh, guess I'm sleepy stoat." he smirks.

Will shrugs. "Didn't you sleep all /day/?" he asks, not having seen much of the stoat all day.

Kentar shakes his head. "No, I was wake. Me and Garnet were talking most of the day. I've only had one nap."

"Oh. You looked asleep when I passed through there," he says, "I'm goin' inside ... if ya want t see th smithy it's down th little path next t th tunnel."

Kentar nods slowly "Right. Actually Garnet and I will stay here and chat for a bit longer...then go to bed. Night Will," he nods.
