Recovery Adoption
Camp Willow Infirmary: Recovery
This is the recovery room of the Camp Willow infirmary. There are ten patient beds in tall here. The rows are five beds long and five beds wide. If the beds do not have anyone in them they are neatly made. The room is well lit by the windows on the walls. There is one large fireplace in here, that is kept well stoked with wood during the winter months. A doorway at the front of the room leads to the main room, and the other door leads to a storage room.
Sanctus yawns and blinks his eyes open, he perks his ears at the still sleeping form of Jo, "Ey Jo waked ups." He pats him in the face with his little paw
Otto is sitting hunched in a stool. Last night he returned after his work. And fixed Jo's rudder whilst he slept. The mouse eventually fell asleep in the stool, his back leaning against the wall. He still had his medical sack opened on his lap.
Jo groans and snorts a little, he picks up sanctus and holds him in his arms as he sits up sliding his legs off the side of the bed. "Oh.....goodness, Martin blessed be. Me whole body hurts."
Otto stretches and yawns waking up. He straights his new specks( courtesy of the otters) and says cheerfully, "WEll good morning you two. I trust you slept well?"
Sanctus hops down from jo's lap and walks over to otto and occupies the mouses lap.
Otto sets the dibbun down on his lap and chuckled. He looked to Jo and sayed, "By the way. I took the liberty of fixing you're rudder while you slept. You were like a a log I might add." He chuckled a bit more.
The otter sighs and rubs his face, "I suppose, it felt like me tail was bein' bit too." He yawns but doesn't stretch.
He smiles fondly at sanctus, "Though this little beast musta kept me from moving 'round." He glances about the room for a crutch
Sanctus smiles shyly at Jo and hides his eyes
Otto looks down at the dibbun for a brief moment smiling. He then looked back up to Jo and says, " I think there should be a crutch over under one of the beds."
Jo moans to himself and slides off the bed to get on the floor, He starts to dig around underneath the cots
Otto getting up himself begins to help look. After searching under his second bed he finds one, and hands it to Jo. He the says, "So how is Fae doing? I never got a chance to really examine her last night."
Gaheris has arrived.
Jo drags himself off the floor and onto the cot, accepting the crutch he shrugs a little, "She is a pregnant ill fox, Id be ill if I were carried about by a badger at nonstop speed and I was pregnant." He stops after saying this, "Which is impossible."
Ayita has arrived.
Sanctus hops off otto's lap and runs to jo begging to be picked up again
Otto nods and replies, "Hmm no wonder she's ill. I'll have to have a look at her next time I see her."
Jo picks up the dibbun and sets him on his shoulders and stands up leaning on the crutch, "I hope she is fine."
Otto nods and stands saying, " Aye. I'm sure /she's/ fine. It's her dibbun(s) I'm worried about. All this stress isn't good for a pregnancy. I'll check in though."
Gaheris' first real chance to be in charge of the camp and it would be because everyone else is getting ready for war. For once he pokes his head in the door on official business rather than because he did something stupid again. He quietly slips on in, looking around, never seen the place so busy "Everyone doing alright?"
Guess what time it is? Snack time! Even the healers need a break to eat every once in awhile, and who better to bring them food then the innkeeper herself? Actually, it is the /only/ way anyone could get Ayita in the infirmary - all those sick people, hobbling around, coughing, spreading disease and dispair...yuck! And with a dibbun to look after, a bar to tend to, and a possible blossoming relationship...she can't afford to get sick. "Hot kippers!" She calls out cheerily, balancing a large plate, a pitcher of juice, and several glasses atop a tray. She doesn't pay any mind to the sick beasts.
"Im doin' fine, though im still recovering." Jo says, then he blinks at who just walks in.
Jo shakes his head and thinks to himself, 'Perhaps im just seeing things' "Sure! I 'avent eaten a thing since I got here." He says with enthusiasm.
Its been awhile since any of the Abbey beasts had seen Ayita, and they might find it a suprise how much she's 'grown'. An air of maturity floats about her now, and she carries herself with a more womanly step, confidence, and grace. "Should I put these on the table, then?" she asks a healer, nodding with her head towards an empty little table. Then Otto is speaking. She casts an uncertain eye to him. "These are fer the workin' beasts, actually, but I could kip on back to the bar an' get ye some if ye'd like?" She's distracted, list of errands to run going through her mind, she is only half paying attention to the conversation. Doesn't yet register that she's speaking to some ghosts of her past.
Otto smiles at the mention of food. He stands and washing his paws with a wet rag replies, "Aye I'de like a fe miss if'n you don't mind." He has yet to realize who this otter is. On seeing Gaheris he replies, "Morning. Just going about tending to busness."
Gaheris perks his ears as there's suddenly kippers following him in. He raises a paw to wave at Ayita, though given the situation he tries to keep looking all serious, there's a bit of a jokey tone to his words though "That just the working healers or does any working beast count?" he's not trying to nab any food yet at least as he looks back to Otto and nods along "Good, no worse than yesterday then"
Jo looks at Gaheris and bows slightly, "Though I am doing fine." He is still a little confused though he gets his camp-willow rank patch from his bag and ties it to his good shoulder.
Sanctus perks his ears at all the adults but says nothing
Otto chuckles and replies, "Hard working beast right here marm. Been up healing most of the night." He says to Jo, "By the way, your rudder's going to need new stitches in a few days." He nods to Gaheris saying, "Aye. Most beasts should be on the road to recovery by now."
Otto pages, "Now Jo what did we dicuss....Don't make me get tha spork" to you.
"Jus' the healers today, but I can grab you a plate too -" Ayita takes a moment to pair his face with a name, she remembers serving him once at the inn "-Gaheris." See? She can be good with names sometimes. She doesn't recognize Jo, though - not because he's changed but...well, most otters look pretty similiar, and she hadn't seen him in awhile. She at least has that patch of white fur around her eye to distinguish her from the next beast. To Otto, she says "Well, then, if your a healer feel free to nab a few."
Jo sighs and nods at the mouse, "Ok otto, though I am gonna get pretty sick of stitches." He plops back down on the cot
Sanctus pats Jo on the head, "Is gon' be ok." He says gently, in his cute little way
Linu has arrived.
Gaheris glances back to Ayita and throws a shrug her way "Eh, was worth a try, I'll just grab something myself next time I'm on the move" another nod to Otto "Good, what we all wanted to hear" he pulls out a little scrap of paper to skim over the neat little writing on it "Guess Flicktail's not awake yet. Anyone know all the details about the attack? Numbers and such?"
"There was too much going on around me, though there are many vermin within the abbey." Jo says though sighs right after, the tapestry........
"There was an attack on the abbey?" Ayita asks in interest, ears flicking forward as she pours a few glasses of apple juice. Oh, hey apple juice. She should drop Rorri a line.
Jo nods at ayita, "Aye, redwall is overrun."
Otto grabs a couple and begins chewing thankfully. While he is eating he looks at Ayita. He knows her from somewhere but can't put his finger on it. Ah well, it'll come to him. He nods solemnly and replies, "Aye. We're all refugees."
Sanctus pricks his ears, though stays silent. Being a refugee as well, though he has Jo and otto to hang out with
Fae mumbles a little and sits up. "afternoon everyone, how're we all doing today" the vixen has a small coughing fit and looks around the room.
Gaheris focuses on Jo and moves over towards his cot, the bit of parchment with notes on it getting tucked back into his pocket as he doesn't really need it after all "Could you just tell me what you do remember? We don't know much right now" Fae gets a quick glance and he nods a silent greeting to her.
Ayita blinks. "Wow...Guess I got out just in time." She smiles, though feeling a pang of remorse. "Drinks on me then." She nods to the refugees. It takes her a moment to register that she knows Otto - though she only met once or twice so she doesn't remember his name. She knows Fae though, and goes to her bedside. "Hello Mrs. Fae - are you alright?" Oh, hey, she should have recognized Jo's whiny tone. Great. Of all the places to refuge...he chooses Camp Willow.
"There was a cloaked figure running for the east wall gate, and a hawk flying around the wall guard." Jo sighs and takes a breath before starting again
Otto looks to Fae and smiles. Walking over he says, "Ah just the vixen I wanted to see. How are you feeling?"
Otto pages, "I don't think she meens you oocly of course. But in you next pose show her how much Jo has grown since you last saw each other. Show her he's not a 'whiney' dibbun anymore." to you.
Gaheris instantly starts frowning "A hawk? And the hawk was working with the vermin? That's bad. What else?"
Fae waves and shrugs." I'm alright I guess, still feel like I've been spinning around a maypole for hours" she winces and holds her right paw which has festered and oozed. "oh, must have cut it when I fell off the badger.."
Jo winces then continues, "The cloaked figure got the gate open and ran up the wall steps waving a torch about if I recall. Then the vermin flooded in eventually."
Otto nods and glancing at the paw says, "Well now /that/ needs tending to." He then began rummaginf through his medical sack.
Sanctus continues to listen silently
Ayita goes back to silently arranging the food on the table, passing glasses to the healers. She can't believe Redwall was taken! She seems to be trying to hastily finish up the food, now that she knows who she's just flounced right into.
Jo says, "After a duration of the battle, besides me getting cut in a few places and my weapon being broken. We fled the abbey.....except those who took the battle into the Great Hall."
Its rebel time. The little otter has no real idea why they are so many beasts around. Frankly. It just makes it easier for Linu to get into mischief. And mischief he does. He pokes his head into the infirm. Wondering what he can purloin from there wares. Seeing there is a lot of beasts. He thinks he can do this scott free! Too bad he doesn't see Ayita as he pads his feet toward the cabinet.
Gaheris continues to frown but slowly looks a little more thoughtful. Hawk for distraction while the others got in. Clever vermin, just their luck "Did you see any of the vermin who seemed to be leading the attack before you fled? Anything special about the vermin, uniforms for instance or was it just the usual mercenaries and rabble from the woods?"
Jo replies, "Anba_hor.....and I am not sure, they seemed to be all bribed vermin."
Ayita's mommy-senses are tingling...and for good reason! She catches movement out of the corner of her eye just as she's setting the empty pitcher back on the tray and tilts her head a little to analyze it further...then "Linu! What are you doing here?" Her paws go to her hips after she sets the tray down and she glowers down at him.
Sanctus perks his ears up at the sneaking figure
Otto finding a thick rag, soaks it with a clear liquid and begins tenderly cleaning the wound.
Gaheris raises a brow, vaguely familiar name, he'll have to ask mum about that. He nods at the bribed part "Some good new at least" Ayita's call makes him look round a moment later and after a moment of confusion he spots Linu with vague amusement there. He looks back to Jo again for a final nod "Thanks, should help for now"
A large armored badger enters the room and pulls up a chair beside fae. He smiles at her and waves. "how are ye feeling today?" he looks at her paw for a minute." i told ya to strap in tight, but ye never liked to do what i told ye anyways."
Jo watches as ayita leave, though hearing a jingle. His gift. "Your welcome."
Sanctus pokes jo in the ear, "can we go look at the camp?" He asks curiously, he looks at otto for a yes.
Gaheris raises his brows at the badger as he heads for the door, going to lean out and flag down a guard. He quickly scribbles down anything he's learnt on a bit of parchment and hands it off to the guard to pass on everything to the Skipper.
Otto looking up from Fae smiles warmly and replies to the dibbun, "I don't see why not." He gave Jo a mischievious grin and continued, "If you can keep him out of trouble."
Jo nods at otto, "He seems to have been latched onto me since he got here." He says with a wry smile, "Im sure he won' cause a ruckus."
Fae waves her good paw at Eirek. "well i didn't think you would run as fast as you did, and im ok" the vixen smiles and waves to jo and the dibbun
Otto nods and waves to the two, then begins to continue mending Fae's paw.
Jo gets up and leans on the crutch, walking towards the exit he stops and looks at his weapon propped up by the doorway, "Ill 'ave to bug ye' about reforgin' me sword later badger." He says through a grin
Eirek chuckles and waves. he looks at otto. "how many refugees are at the camp?"
Otto while still cleaning replies, "Can't tell you for certain. Tiss msotly dibbuns and a few fighters." He then pulled out a needle and thread.
The badger nods. "yer a refugee as well arent ya?" he lightly brushes his paw against faes muzzle.
Jo leaves with Sanctus
Fae winces a little. "i was in the kitchen when they stormed the hall, locked myself in the cellar. i could hear the fighting though. it sounded terrible.
With the guard and message sent on Gaheris hangs back by the door, listening for a few minutes.
The badger nods. "but ye said that a cloaked beast let ye escape?" he frowned a little . "why would he go against the horde?"
Otto shakes his head, "Can't say. Perhaps a change of heart. Perhaps he had a grudge against the leader." He finished up Fae's paw and said, "There! Good as new. Just try not to move it so much for the next couple of days." He then straightened his speck and continued, "How are the dibbuns coming? You think the time is getting close?"
Fae examines her paw and smiles. "Thanks, its going fine, eh, a month or so maybe more," she sighs "I wonder if they will spend their first few days in the camp."
Gaheris perks his ears again, making a mental note of this 'cloaked beast' and then there's something else to distract him and cause a raised brow until he makes the connection to pregnant "Would like you all home as soon as possible but safe here for as long as it takes"
The badger frowns and mumbles to himself. "well its good to see ya feeling better, and yes, its safer for ye here"
Otto nods putting away his medical supplies. He slides the sack under a cot and replies, "Aye so do I. Flick seems dead set on getting it back as soon as possible. I just hope he doesn't hurt himself."
Fae nods "He's pretty optimistic about this, it worries me a little." she nods at the otter and smiles.
Gaheris waves off the worries "Ah I shouldn't worry. It's just a few vermin, nothing the camp hasn't handled before. Not even the first time mum's had to break into a castle. They'll keep him alive"
The badger nods and kisses Fae's head. "well, im going to see about repairing that otters sword." he nods to Otto and Gaheris before picking up Jo's sword and heading out the door.
Otto shakes his head at Gaheris and replies, "Not trying to cause panic but it's not just a few vermin. It's a pretty large army. And the fox that leads it is pretty smart."
Fae nods her head "yeah, his tactics were well planned." she sighs and lays back down. "there were quite a number of them that's for sure"
Gaheris shakes his head "We know, really but that's not the way we talk around here. After all there's a lot of us too and we're smart. We always believe we'll win and in the end we always have"
Otto nods, "Well we are in your capable paws me lad." He patted Fae on the paw before gathering his sack and saying, "I've got some rounds to make myself. I'll chat with ya later." He then walked out the tent to examine more patients.

PART ll
Jo hobbles out of the infirmiry and grins, "So what do ye' wanna do me little friend?" He asks to the dibbun on his shoulders
Sanctus tugs a little on the otters ears, "I dunno." He says simply
Otto pages, "Ah. I'll ask him next time I se him" to you.
Jo rubs his chin in thought and starts to hobble fowards, "Perhaps some food?"
Sanctus rubs his growling stomach and nods.
Jo heads off with his little companion to find the tavern.
He walks down the smooth and soft riverstone trail, towards a building.
Then walks back up towards the side pathway and towards the main pathway, the terrain changing below his paws.
He takes a path, towards the Main Grounds.
Jo enters the otter-filled main grounds and walk towards the bussling Swaying Reed tavern and enters.
Sanctus nose goes insane at the smell of food
Jo pats sanctus on the head, "I know, though I wonder where the waiter is." He glances about looking for someone to ask about ordering food.
An old looking otter walks up to jo and sanctus, "Well ye' gonna take a seat or won't ya?" He motions toward a table, then goes behind the counter muttering about young people
Sanctus hides his face again behind his paws, hiding a little bit
Jo blinks in slight surprise but takes a seat at a small square table leaning his crutch against the side. He takes the dibbun from his shoulders and sits him in a chair but the little hare seems to be a tad short, "Erm, hmmm....." He looks about for a box
Find what?
Sanctus looks around the room, staring around at the decor hung on the wall. More like things that are normally used for everyday tasks in the camp
"What can I get ye' both?" The grizzled otter asks. Though he sees the dibbun looking a tad small in the chair, He goes back behind the corner with a sigh and grabs a short box. He picks up sanctus with one paw, puts the box down on the chair and sets the dibbun back down atop of it.
Sanctus blinks but doesnt squirm as he is bodily lifted from the chair and sat back down on the box
"Thank ye' sir, um....what do ye' 'ave?" Jo asks timidly, he winces a little but keeps as straight of face as he can.
Jin Sighs and speaks out in a barotone voice, "We 'ave fish, bread, cake, pie.....not to mention a few wines and ales, along with many teas. What! Can I get yew both?!" He busts out a small bark papered notepad and a lead stick ready to write down orders
Sanctus blinks a bit but still stays silent, he wants food darnit!
Jo looks sympatheticly at sanctus, "Erm, I suppose two plates. Both with fish and chips. If ye' 'ave some juice for the little one here that'd be good, and id like some ale I suppose." He says quickly, trying not to anger the otter much....
"Ye' suppose!?" jin says loudly and marches back behind the counter to get started on the order, "Dont suppose you'd like some cake too!!" He shouts to the two.
Sanctus hops off the box and climbs onto Jo again, hugging him and not letting go.
Jo pats sanctus and kisses the top of his head gently, calming him down, "Don' worry, he's ok. He is a big softie I know tat'."
Jin grumbles to himself as he comes around the counter holding both plates high and sets them down on the table a little hard but not enough to make anyone jump, ahhhh consideration, "Yer drinks are comin' up!" He says nonetooloudly and goes back around the counter figuring out where ayita put the mugs.
Sanctus breathes out through his nose slowly, "O-ok."
" 'eres your drinks!" He sets both the drinks down and a plate with 2 slices of cake as well.
Jo pats sanctus on the back gently and sets him on the box chair. "There ye' go." He looks to Jin and smiles, "Thank ye' sir."
Jin nods and turns away, back to muttering again and he starts wiping down the counters with a wet cloth
Sanctus digs in to his food with eagerness
"Whoa! matey slow up, Ye' don' wan' to be in the infirm for chokin' do ye'?" Jo starts eating as well, enjoying every bite
"Jo? Will we ever get our home back?" Sanctus asks gently, through a mouthful of food.
Jo sighs and shrugs, " 'opefully, Martin will give us a way. Someday." He trails off and takes a sip of ale and makes a face but doesnt complain.
Sanctus sniffles a little and wipes his nose off and keeps eating.
Jo sighs and nods at sanctus understandingly, "I know, though now we are staying at an exciting place. Its not redwall I know but it will be fun, I promise." He smiles gently and ruffles the dibbun's headfur
"Jo? Did you know that pretty otter that gave us the fishes?" Sanctus asks curiously.
The otter nods slowly and sighs, "She used to live at the abbey."
Jin walks up and pulls up a seat and sits in it backwards, "So what happen' to that big ol' rudder of yours?" He asks grumpily
Jo sighs and winces, "I am not sure, I was fighting during an invasion at the abbey. So anyone could have nicked me there." Shrugging he finishes off his ale and starts on the fish again
Jin nods and directs his attention to the little hare, "And what 'bout you?" He asks gruffly.
Sanctus squirm a little in his seat but answers, "I be h'an orphan from ee abbey." He states though frowns a little at Jo, unanswered questions remain in his little mind.
Jin pats the dibbun on the head and nods, "Wellp back to me work!" He shouts, "Hope ya getcher abbey back!" He clears off a mugs from the couter and drops them into the washtub, though breaking a handle on one.
Sanctus yawns and scratches his stomach.
Jo finishes off his food and smiles at sanctus, "Ye' ready to go to sleep mate?"
Sanctus nods sleepily, "I's wanna sleep." He says drowsily.
Jo nods and gets up, grabbing his crutch and leaning on it he offers a paw out to the dibbun. "Come on ill take us back to the infrimiry."
Sanctus reaches out and hangs onto Jo's arm and gets pulled into his grasp.
Jo pulls him close and looks in Jin's direction, "Oi ye' think we could take the cake to the infirmiry?" He asks.
Jin just nods and waves them off, "Ya' take care of that little one ya' hear me?" He says grumpily.
"I will don' worry." Jo says while setting sanctus on his shoulders and picking up the plate with the cake on it
Jo walks outside, letting air rush into the indoor atmosphere and starts back to the infirmary .
Sanctus asks, "Jo?"
Jo replies, "yeah?"
"I-I wan' to ask something, Im not sure how ta' ask it though." The dibbun says timidly.
Jo stops before entering the recovery room, "Ye' don' 'ave to be nervous, Im listenin'." He says gently.
They come before the infirmary right inside before the recovery room.
"Can..." sanctus sniffles a little, "Can you adopt me?" He asks, now its finally out he starts crying openly. shaking with little sobs.
Jo smiles wide and breathes out slowly, and walks into the recovery room
"Ye' mean like id be a daddy?" Jo asks the little hare, while setting down the plate of cake on the table where otto fell asleep as before.
Sanctus nods and yawns through his tears, "mhmm." He hugs Jo's neck tighly in a small hug
Jo lifts sanctus from his shoulders slowly and then hugs him, "Ok, I will." Tears start running down his cheeks, "I-I will." He repeats in a choked up voice. He starts to rock sanctus back and forth and cries softly.
Sanctus rubs his eyes then runs a paw across Jo's face, wiping away his tears, then cuddles up and nuzzles Jo's neck and falls asleep.
Jo gets a sudden warm feeling through his happiness, Im a.....father? He thinks to himself. Jo grins and nods a little, "Im a father." He whispers to himself, he slowly sits down onto his cot and props the crutch on the side table and lies down hugging sanctus to him and falling asleep himself.
