Quinten Log 13 - 09 10 2005
Salamandastron: Crater *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Salamandastron *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- You are on the very top of the mountain of Salamandastron: a large, bowl- shaped crater. The crater is not smooth, quite the contrary in fact. Numerous boulders and large chunks of rock are strewn around randomly, making the crater top just as craggy as any of the mountainside. The crater provides an outstanding view of the surrounding country. The sea sprawls off to the west as far as the eye can see, and north and south along the endlessly rolling sand dunes. In the distant east, a tinge of green is just visible from this height, marking the vegetation in the foothills of the Western Mountains. *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* With: [DYN] Taye [DYN] One eyed, Longpatrol Major, Jarril Black Fleetpaw.
Jarril smiles. "We see what happens. The only thing that would make me come out if I did if I ever found the actual group of sea corsairs that killed my family..." Frowning slightly. "But seems like this mountain isn't the target for vermin as it used ta be, but I'll continue ta wait nonetheless."
Taye looks somewhat relieved by the answer. He nods. "Aye, well, who would try to challenge the mountain, sah? 'Twould be suicide, wouldn't it?"
Jarril nods his head. "Aye, hence I don't think I'll meet the killers, but I can always hope."
Quinten comes clambering out of the stairs leading down, peering around he spots the other two hares and walks towards them, on spotting that it is the Major he salutes and looks at Taye with a grin
Sorrel has arrived.
Taye looks sympathetically towards the major. "Mayhaps it's for the best that ya don't meet 'em, sah." He looks around at Quinten's approach, and nods in greeting.
Jarril nods back at Quinten and turns his head back to Taye. "Wait until someone close is murdered then tell me that again." Coughing. "So how goes?" Asking Quinten.
Quinten lowers his paw "It is going ok Major.....i think it is anyway, though i keep getting lost"
Jarril blinks. "Lost? Howso?" Quirking a brow.
Taye looks back to Jarril, but leaves the 'yes sir' to himself now that he and Quinten are talking.
Quinten shuffles and looks down "In the mountain sir, i keep getting turned around in all the corridors
Jarril nods. "Ah that. Well, ya get used ta it in time. No friend ya can be with all the time ta learn the way then?"
Quinten shakes his head "I only know a few of the other recruits sir, and it is hard to track them down sometimes, i'm still kind of sleeping in the infirmary, i don't yet have a bunk of my own/"
Jarril nods. "Ah, well. I would see the colonel that deals with rooming, though I am sure it's been changed over the last couple of wars since I last saw him." Grinning, the major turns to Taye. "Taye my lad. Ya help this recruit won't ya?"
Quinten nods his head "I have sir, they said they would deal with it as soon as they could," hesmiles at taye "He has already been helping me Major, he helped me find a uniform"
Taye nods to Jarril and salutes. He then offers Quinten a grin. "Yes, sah. Of course."
Jarril grins and loves moving things down in his patrol. "Ah good, then that's that problem sorted out."
Quinten nods his head and smiles "I just hope i can make it through the training sir, i'm still not much good with anything but a javelin."
Jarril ear perks. "You've had no training whatsoever...? How old are ya?"
Taye tucks his paws in his pockets and just listens to the two, for the moment.
You say, "Six seasons sir, i've had some training, my da trained us all with the javelin and a bit of paw to paw, and i've been learning since i was recruited sir..""
Jarril nods. "Was ya pa within the patrol?"
Quinten shakes his head and shuffles, lowering his ears "No sir....he's a farmer sir, i left to join the patrol...didn't want to bea farmer"
Jarril nods. "That's quite alright. So have anyone else been in the patrol from ya family?"
Quinten shakes his head "No sir, no one, our family is from down south,"
Jarril turns to face Taye. "You know what this means, don't ya?" Smiling. "We have a new hare family that's joined us."
Quinten takes a half a step back a worried frown on his muzzle "Is..that a good thing....its not going to lead to one of those initiation things is it?"
Taye returns Jarril's smile with a grin of his own, which he turns on Quinten as well. "Relax, Quinten, relax."
Jarril gives a smile. "Oh I don't know. I mean, we could have all the hares in the mountain in the festival hall and initate you into the patrol...."
Quinten flicks his ears "initiate how....i heard these things are expected...i'm sure i will survive sir..."
Taye tries to keep from outright laughing at Jarril's teasing. Aww, poor Quinten.
Jarril shrugs. "Don't know, we haven't had many of them at all, in fact. I don't think I've gone through any. They forgot ta do the full on thing when I got ta major rank." Grinning. "Suited me fine, don't think I am for that stand up in front of everyone. I think my cousin doesn't know about that. Maybe on my next promotion or not, who knows." Rubbing his chin. "I suppose I just let the other hares do something un-official, ya know. Wake ya up or some other trick."
Quinten nods and smiles slowly "Ok Major...i'll try and be a good sport if they decide to tip me in a vat of cream or somethign"
Taye looks vaguely... mischievous. He drops Quinten a wink. "Oh, don't worry. We'll think of somethin' good." Grin.
Quinten looks at Taye and chews on a whisker a bit nervously
Jarril gives Taye a pat. "Hey, it's what newcomers get to expect. You can be sure you get a welcome ya never forget."
Taye looks up at the pat and grins, then he stands. He reaches across to deliver a reassuring pat to Quinten. "You'll fit righ' in, pal. In the meantime we'll set ya up with a cot in my dorm. Sound a'right?"
Quinten nods "Sure...ok Taye i'd like that, an well i do hope i fit in and my welcome leaves me with my fur....i heard a rumour that recruits get shaved and dumped in a vat of cream"
Jarril hmms. "Ya know, we've not actually done that. I make sure the cook makes more cream though."
Quinten looks up at Jarril and groans "I should hush up or i'll give you all ideas"
Taye holds back a chuckle. "A'right, I'll set that up, then. M'dorm's in the runnahs' hall, so jus' swing on by t'night when yer ready to sleep."
You say, "Ok i will do so Taye, thank you""
Jarril nods. "Well, I can't sit about all day." Getting up. "Well, I can but anyways."
Turning to face Taye. "If our patrol is needed for a job, then I'll help out but right now I've put myself on only messenger duty at the moment. With or without a trainer runnah. Though at the moment I don't think any colonels has anything like that ta do." Fixing his uniform. "Should request being ready for doing a partol along this area. Anyways, nice ta meetcha Quinten." Turning back to Taye again. "Make sure ya lot don't go ta far on the new ones. Don't want them scared away now, wot." Nodding his head, he slowly heads off to the entrance to the mountain again.
Quinten salutes as the Major departs "Nice to meet you too sir"
Taye salutes once more to Jarril. "'Course not, sah. G'day."
Jarril enters the passage that leads down to the Third Level of Salamandastron.
Jarril has left.
Quinten smiles at Taye and grins "I best get back down, i have a lesson starting soon"
Taye nods to Quinten, then. "A'right, 'n' really, don't worry about the 'initiation' thing. We were just messin' with ya, mostly." He waves a paw. "See ya latah, eh?"
Quinten looks at Taye warrily "If ye say so...i'll still keep an eye out, bye"
