Quinten Log 126 - 09 06 2006
'(You know i just noticed when editing this that Yavuz and Keith came out of the abbey, with a large bundle over one shoulder and hurrying away as quickly as they could from foot steps following them O.o Man we are really quite the Long Patrollers for not noticing that)'
RW Abbey: Main Gate
A chill wind teases your whiskers as you stand at the main entrance into Redwall Abbey. The gates stand tall and new, having been replaced only seasons ago. The entrance arch is amazingly thick, denoting the strength and thickness of the ancient walls themselves, which, despite the upheavals of the past, and numerous cracks present in the rose colored stone, still stand tall and strong. Uncountable pawprints can be seen in the snow, leading both in and out of the Abbey
You can hear the bustle of activity within the Abbey, and the occasional murmur of a passing conversation. The sun is high overhead, and shadows are small. All is bright.

- Start
Gorefang is not far away, near the gate house in fact when he spots the hare, seen a lot more of them about, hasn't bothered with them much, since this one seems to be crying and storming out though it makes it so much more interesting and he slowly follows after her, down on all fours as he will in oddness usually be, the rabbit easily spotted as Flax passes Ender.
Flaxpaw gives an earflick...somebeast's following her? She stops, paw going to swipe at her eyes, and spins. ""Look wotever you want.....oh." She blinks in disbelief, voice dropping low. "m-mister Ender?" Peer.
Ender tries to smile, but can't. He merely gives her a thin-lipped flatline expression, eyes a mask, betraying no feelings. "Flaxpaw." This is said simply, in a dry, quiet voice.
Gorefang stops just within the abbey walls and actually sits down on his haunches to watch them, most curious and interesting to him indeed, that and he's not exactly got anything better to do but be nosey.
Having seen that the Abbey Gates are open a figure in a habbit walks over the grounds to see who it is. It is quinten dressed in a full novice habbit with the hood thrown back to keep his ears free. He raises a paw to Gorefang and looks towards Flaxpaw and the rabbit, he then sees who it is and his muzzle drops open and he hurries over. "Mister Ender...Is it really you?"
Flaxpaw has just opened her mouth to ask the same question, wide grin starting, when Quinten shows up. Ear-flick-flick-flick. Her mouth snaps shut, eyes narrowed and face going closed as she takes a small step to be on the other side of the old rabbit from the buck. "Better go report that t' majah, huh, Quint?" She asks, glaring.
Something's different about the old rabbit, that's one thing that can be ascertained right away. Something is...wrong. He doesn't shuffle, stoop, or even stutter. Ender's changed. He turns his head slowly to look at Quinten, and blinks at him, just once, before returning his gaze to Flax. "Why so angry?"
Gorefang glances back when he hears Quinten arrive, a short nod going in return to the hare's raised paw, he looks back to Flax then as she seems to anger, Gore's tail flicks lightly and he tilts his head, hare's fighting, well now he certainly can't look away.
Quinten looks towards Flaxpaw, "Guess you should if he's ordered you over, someone reported our discussion the other day." He turns back to Ender and smiles, "It is so good to see you Mister Ender, i should go get Gabriel." He doesn't seem to have noticed anything wrong with Ender yet."
Eh? Is Quint not understanding her? She glares more. "Well, 'someone' should learn t' keep his mouth shut. An why d'you think I'm leavin? Talked to majah, he's like the rest of you..." blinking tears back before she returns her attention to Ender, about to launch into some tirade it seems, when she hesitates, eyes travelling up and down him. "Uh..wot're you doin here anyway, sah...an with no cane?" Her tome is puzzled, surprised into forgetting anything else by the sudden 'wow moment' of realisation....Ender at Redwall?
Sikara is in the distanced watching the abbey, head tilted. She glances at the hares and the stoat.
Ender glances at Quinten again. "Can't promise I'll still be here then." This is said in a slightly condescending tone, a bit of bite added to the last words. As he looks back at Flax, his gaze rests for just a moment on Gorefang, and he glares before finishing turning back. "I'm doing what I want, like all creatures should be able to, eh?" This is followed by the closest thing to a smile yet.
Gorefang raises a brow as he gets glared at by Ender, a short glance going behind him to make sure it wasn't anyone else, nope, he has bunnies glaring at him, he just shoots a sort of half grumpy 'what?' look back.
Quinten blinks at Flaxpaw's words and takes a step back, "Well...you look in good health Mister Ender, I mean to have made the Journey from Redwall from the mountain you must be, It is nice to see you again." He does seem a bit put off by Ender's condescending tone however. He looks back at Flaxpaw and nods, "Yeah whoever it was who told the Major of our discussion, I have nothing more to say to you Flaxpaw at the moment I do not want another arguement."
Flaxpaw flicks an ear at Quinten, eyes fixed on Ender, and ignoring Quint....with effort. "Yes, sah. Every beast /should/ be able to wot they like." pointed glare at the abbey, then at Quint. "Happens I am too, leavin the abbey an the patrol." Slightly defiant look accompanied by a new round of tears starting to leak out her eyes. Sniffle.
Ender raises a paw towards Flaxpaw's face, a dust-covered and dirty thing with nails desperately needing to be trimmed. Despite the paw's horrid appearance, it does manage to gently touch her face, mopping up a bit of tears on her cheek while giving the hare a reassuring smile. "Seems you and I are the same, then. I came here to find you, eh?" The stoat is ignored. It can only lead to bad things.
Sikara watches from a distance, picking up information on the situation the best way she can.
A packed main gate? Jakk is curiously drawn to the crowd here, having emerged once more from one of his numerous hiding spots, ears perking with confusion as he tries to make out some of the conversation before actually moving up to the group. It just happens that Flaxpaw is the first beast he hears clearly. "No! Flax!" The buck going to get through towards her. "Flax, don' go!" Then again wouldn't he have to pass Quinten to do this? All else isn't heard. Hey, wait.. is that Ender? Odd.
Gorefang can at least say he knows how to get beasts to not glare at him, he hmms a little at both Flax and Ender but then Jakk distracts him entirely, causing him to quickly stand from his sat position and look round to the arriving hare.
Quinten hesitates at Flaxpaw's revelation and blinks, his ears hang back and he shakes his head, he does however reach out to try and grab Jakk by the shoulders and stop the younger buck from moving closer for now. "No Flaxpaw...i am not happy your leaving. You where my friend...i do not know what has happened...but i'm going to miss you....i miss being able to come and talk to you." He looks down at Jakk and sighs. "You take care Flax, you do what you have to do ok? To be happy and i'm sorry." He then turns to Ender "Did you really come for Flaxpaw?" He looks back to Flax and then to the rabbit once more.
Flaxpaw turns to look at Jakk, guilty, and sighs, scooting a little closer to Ender for comfort. "Well...don't see wot else there is f' me t' do, really. an I'll be fine." She makes a little half-gesture to Jakk,apology/ welcom to come over. Then she blinks, looking to Ender with surprise. "You...came for /me/?" voice quiet. "Really?"
Trying to laugh, but honestly unable to, Ender zones out all those around him, ignoring whomever questioningly called out his name, ignoring Quinten who was still throwing out questions. He focused on Flaxpaw, the one strand left. "I did. And now, it is time for us to leave, eh?"
Jakk stops suddenly cause he is caught around the shoulders and kind of pulled closer to Quint in the process. Murf? "Hey.." He sends a look up at the hare, brows furrowing. "What's the big idea?" For now he is restrained from getting to Flax, unless he were to thrash out of the older buck's grasp or get violent. Haha.. nah. He won't. A glance is sent to Flaxpaw, ears folding back as he scowls.
Gorefang hmms once more and while he's standing figures he may as well go for a little walk, just round the group though "So..two are leaving, one wants one to go and the other would have them stay, I assume the choices are still open and all is not well with the hare's of the mountain" still on all fours, eyes flicking from one to the other as he goes, ok he's possibly being a little creepy right now.
Quinten shakes his head looking at Ender with interest as he seems to ignore everything else except Flaxpaw, "Flaxpaw is leaving us Jakk...." He takes his paws off of the younger bucks shoulders and looks to Ender and smiles, "She is going somewhere with Ender it seems." He takes a half step forwards and goes to lay a paw on Ender's arm. "You take care fo Flaxpaw...i've been a fool and she hates me...but please Ender look after eachother ok...do you want me to tell Gabby anything?"
Flaxpaw looks to Jakk, seeming a bit torn. "Jakk? I- I'm sorry?" She steps closer to Ender, looking at him with a nod. "Yes. It is." Another glance to Jakk, Quint and stoat ignored.
Giving a frown to all assembled, Ender turns and faces the open road. "I would offer an arm, but we must be self-sufficient, eh? One can go on in the absence of the other." He's speaking...strangely, as if reciting a mantra. However, the rabbit stops talking after this and takes a step. And then another. All else is ignored, the journey begins anew.
Jakk pins his ears even further, sending Quint a look as he is released. "Yeah.. I'm not simple Quin." However, that expression stays on his features as he still looks at Flaxpaw. Finally he just shakes his head. "Whatever, Flax. Do what you want. Don' feel sorry for me.." The buck glances towards Gorefang only once, then goes to just head back into the abbey without another word. So.. the exiting rabbit is ignored too.
Gorefang hmms only once more before turning and heading off into the abbey grounds, with them leaving they've lost his interest.
Quinten frowns at Ender as he totally ignores him and then looks at Flaxpaw and decides to try one last time. "Flaxpaw...take care ok. I am sorry." He runs past her suddenly, into the Gatehouse and comes back out after a minute or two carrying her sword and dagger, holding them out to her. "You'll need these."
"Wait, mister Ender.. Can't just leave like this.." Flax' tone's soft and tired. "Gotta...do somethin first." She starts after Jakk a few steps, raising her voice. "Wait, Jakk, you...don't understan." She blinks at the weapons, taking them, looking to see if Jakk has stopped, then looking back to Quinten. "Well-uh-thanks? An tell Harp...well, wotever you want to." Shrug.
Keith trots out of the gates with Yavuz, one arm thrown across the shoulders of the ermine - his other paw gripping a long burlap wrapped object that he holds braced against his other shoulder.
Ender glares at Flax's back before taking a couple of backward bounds to her. "Flax. We leave now. You leave this behind, eh? They're chains." He doesn't make eye contact with any of the other beasts, though he does brush up against Quinten quite accidentally, avoiding the entrance of two /more/ beasts.
There is a definite skip to the ermine's step, apparently pleased to be in her present situation. She beams at the other beasts as they approach.
Keith of course, makes his way .. you know, through, while trying to not disrupt whatever appears to be going on. "'Scuze me." he murmurs, his eyebrow quirking as the pair make their way towards the road.
Jakk pauses to look back at Flaxpaw, ears flickering backward as he does. He is about to say something to the doe, but then he looks indignant about Ender's statement. "No. Go on Flax. Guess I'm one of those 'chains' he is talking about." The young buck jumps back away from her, then runs.
Keith suddenly snugs Yavuz towards him instinctively at the sound of quick foot-falls and departs.
Quinten looks after Jakk as he runs away and then frowns at Ender, "Even walking upright you still manage to cause upset you crotchety..." He stops and takes a deep breath and then his heels click together and he salutes. "Take care Flaxpaw, Ender."
Chains? Flax looks to the abbey, then to Quint, gaze now avoiding Jakk's retreating form.
Then she nods, quite calm it seems. "Yes...leave it behind...you're right. Let's get out of here." She goes to his side, putting out a questioning paw like she wants him to take it. As she does, she says in almost a whisper "Make him understand, Quint, there's nothing here for me...I'd take him along if I could, but he'll come out a good patroller." His comments to Ender ignored, just worried aboout Jakk and focused on her decision.
Ender turns slowly to deliberately lock eyes with Quinten. He takes a few steps up to the hare, standing right in his face, and raises a paw to his throat, delicately touching him with one of his lenghty claws. He frowns. "Watch y'self. Show some respect, or only bad things can happen to you." Ender returns to Flaxpaw. "Now. Off, eh?"
Quinten stays at salute barely batting an eye lid as Ender's nail touches his neck. "I will Ender sah...see you sometime." He glances to Flaxpaw and nods his head, "I will Flaxpaw....take care ok." He pulls something from belt and presses it into her paws. "My latest life at Sala....take it with you i have copies, will be the last one you get to see in some seasons i bet."
Flaxpaw takes the newsletter with a nod, then turns to Ender, and heads out the gate.
Quinten watches Ender and Flaxpaw leave and sighs, swinging the gate closed behind them he slides the bar into place. Leaning against it the recruit pulls his hood upto hide his eyes and trudges off to try and find Jakk and then the Major. Things have not gone well in redwall abbey this day.
- Several Hours pass
RW Abbey: Great Hall
The Great Hall of Redwall Abbey. Countless paw falls have echoed from these stones, and untold numbers of feasts and merry gatherings have been held here. A table, not nearly so grand or large as its predecessors, but quite functional for mealtimes, rests near the center of the hall. Chairs exist here aplenty, though most of them are obviously not from the same set. High above, the stain glass windows give the Great Hall a beautiful appearance. The glasswork is exceptionally done, crafted by a skilled artist. The floor is clean and swept. A fire is kept burning in the fireplace at almost all times of the day and night, and there are several more comfortable chairs and cushions set up here, of varying sizes. One looks large enough to easily accommodate a badger.
The Tapestry hangs proud and tall, and while the rest of Redwall may still bear the scars of natural disaster, this most famous of Redwall's relics remains unharmed by beast, time, or the elements. The figure of Martin the Warrior seems to be watching over his own with an unchanging, kindly gaze.
Red, blue, orange, green...vibrant patterns of color are painted on the floorstones of Great Hall by the high afternoon sun that is streaming through the stained glass windows.
With:
[DYN] Bookworm Brother (Keiran)!
[IC] Sonal
[IC] Gorefang
[DYN] Brother (Furgo) of Redwall Abbey
[DYN] the old carpenter (Nicodemus)
Gorefang raises a brow at the starting Sonal and grins him "Relax, I don't bite...without reason"
Nicodemus ahs. "And then you don't brush?"
Nicodemus chuckles, and continues his examination of the window sill.
Furgo smiles, and sees Keiran, waving to him.
Nicodemus walks sideways using his hind paws, continuing his examination of the window.
Gorefang looks back up to the squirrel "Hoho, such wit"
Nicodemus asks, "Now, where on stained glass would the master sign?"
Nicodemus says, "Thanks."
Furgo continues to watch the squirrel carefully.
A figure walks up the stairs from Cavern Hole, dressed in a novices habit with the hood up they are moving slowly, head bowed over and reading from a book in their paws, weaving across the Great Hall without looking up.
Furgo waves to Quinten. "Hello, Quinten."
Nicodemus sways over to the left, ends up hanging by one right hind footpaw.
Gorefang watches Nicodemus go "Would say depends on if they put them in or not, would guess somewhere out the way in corner of the glass somewhere"
"
Keiran steps in from the library, rubbing a paw over his headfur, scratching there lightly. Clearly, he's simply headed across the hall to the stairwell, but his curiosity is piqued by the other beasts present. "'ello, g'd evenin'," he offers with a high wave, before continuing on his way.
Nicodemus says, "I agree, I'd have thought so. I wonder also if perhaps their mark is under the sill."
Furgo waves to Keiran.
Sonal crouches down and begins scouring the sill bottom.
Quinten looks up as his name is callled out and raises a paw in greeting to Furgo and then he stops pushing back his cowl to stare up at the squirrel. "Well i say, good day sir.." He glances at Keiran and shuffles his footpaws. "Brother Keiran good day to you as well, Master Gorefang." He bobs his head in greeting.
Nicodemus mutters, "Somewhere the windows' maker should be notated."
Furgo smiles, and jots something else in his black book.
.
Furgo gets up, and starts heading for Sonal hurriedly.
Sonal, rubbing his head, points to a scratch under the hill. "Might this be it?"
One of Keiran's ears perk. He turns towards the others again, halting his walk across the hall. "Somethin' wrong with th'windows?" he inquires, giving a grin to Quinten as he enters and greets him. "Evenin', Quinten. I 'ear Major Jarril spoke with ya." )
Nicodemus turns towards the hare. "No, the windows are wonderful. I'm just trying to find out where they came from."
Gorefang gets up again to make his way over to those by the window, look going to Sonal as he hits his head "Now there was a silly thing to do" he says before leaning down to look at the scratch "Would have thought the sill would be here long while before the windows anyway"
Nicodemus nods to the stoat. "Aye, the original sill, yes. I'm checking near the sill because a mark near the sill won't interfere with the appearance of the glass."
Quinten speaks up, closing his book with a light snap. "Well the Window panes themselves have been destroyed a few times in the history of the abbey..." The young buck tails off and comes to attention, saluting. "Yes Brother and i appoligise formally for my arguement with Flaxpaw, it was out of order for me to speak in such a manner within these walls....though you should know sir. Miss Flaxpaw has left the abbey...in the company of one Ender Wheelock."
"Oh," Keiran responds to Nicodemus. "I c'n tell ya tha'. Well, not th'/name/ o'th'beast 'at made 'em in p'ticular, but 't came from 'alyard Village. On th'west coast," he offers, with a shrug, hobbling towards the others, waving off Quinten's apology at first. "S'nothin', really..." But, he stops at the second part. "Sh'left?!"
Furgo wheels around to Quinten, and has an inquisitive.
Nicodemus drops to the ground in what seems to be an unplanned fall but ends up on his feet.
Nicodemus says, "So, that's where they came from. Halyard, that's a ways off." looks up at them. "The master is one fine glass-maker indeed. How'd they get here?"
Keiran turns to Quinten, wincing, and giving him a single paw in a 'wait a minute' gesture. At that, he goes back to Nicodemus. "Yeh, I w's e'en surprised at th'quality. Camp Willow was goin' t'Halyard f'a festival, an' volunteered t'bring 'em back. Good bunch o'otters, Willow."
Nicodemus ohs! "Drat, and to think, if I'd have known I'd have come for the installation. It must have been quite a show."
Nicodemus rubs his chin. "Perhaps my neighbor would even have come."
Quinten listens to Keiran before appologising to the squirrel "Oh sorry sir...did not mean to be rude." He moves closer to the others and smiles at the Squirrel. "You should see them at night when the moonlight shines through them."
Furgo inquires to Nicodemus, "Who is your neighbor?"
Gorefang looks round to Keiran since he seems to know what's going on window wise, glances going between squirrel and hare every so often.
Nicodemus waves a paw, "S'ok, young buck. I didn't think you were rude. I'm the one who's nattering on."
Sonal watches idly, having pulled a toothpick from one of his pockets and working at his teeth.
Nicodemus turns to the mouse and scratches his head.
Nicodemus says, "Well, I know it's an odd claim, but, he doesn't have a name, so he just goes by 'Otter'."
Keiran grins. "M'not gonna lie 't all, seein' th'holes 'n th'wall filled up with /real/ windows, 'nstead o'boards..." He shudders, shaking his shoulders and back. "Was a good feelin', heh." A pause, and a glance to Quinten. "S'there anythin' else y'need t'know?"
Quinten drops his paw and nods his head, "Well Brother, i'd have tried to stop Flaxpaw or come and got someone but she left with Mister Ender, he is from back home." He chews on his whiskers. "Though i am not sure how he got here he is very old and always seemed so frail...yet it was like a different rabbit showed up." He blinks and stops rambling. "But no sir nothing else just i'm sorry for all the stress i caused." He looks back up at the windows and smiles, "They are beautiful sir Squirrel."
Nicodemus's eyes get large, and he points to himself with a grin. "Ah, laddie, I'm not a knight. I'm just a carpenter ... mostly retired now, of course."
Nicodemus suddenly, he looks about, noticie the hares.
Nicodemus smiles mischeivously. "My goodness, it's been a long time indeed since I saw this many hares about the Order."
Furgo says in response to Nic's description of his neighbor. "Odd, I beleive I've heard something about that beast before, I think someone came down last summer, mentioned he used to live near a beast like that, can't remember his name." The end bit of this is mainly said to himself in a mutter.
Nicodemus shakes his head. "Bad idea, Nic..."
Quinten chuckls softly and flicks his ears and Salutes Nicodemus, "I'm Novice Recruit Quinten, on exchange from Salamandastron sir, pleasure to meet you."
Nicodemus smiles. "Pleased to meet you, Novice Quinten. How do you find the Abbey compared to Salamandastron?"
Nicodemus says it again, quietly. "Salamandastron."
Furgo sits down again.
Keiran turns to Quinten again, and... sees he's occupied. Hm. Forget whatever he /was/ doing. He walks towards the library, stopping by Quinten on his way back. "...Sh'say where she was goin'?"
Nicodemus moves in that squirrel rocking gait to the table and drops himself down.
Quinten watches Nicodemus walk off before he can answer his question and turns to the Brother. "No sir...it was really strange. Mister Ender turned up and they both just walked out of the abbey. Casting off the chains of the abbey and those stopping them from being free. At least that is the nonsense Ender was spouting." His brow creases into a frown, obviously rather worried about all this. "I tried to find an officer afterwards but i couldn't and Jakk took it badly as well."
Furgo listens intently to Quinten.
Nicodemus's ears go up straight. "I'll be. So it wasn't just my wife."
Furgo turns to Nicodemus, and eyebrow raised.
Keiran sighs through his teeth, and scratches his head. "...I think I need t'talk t'Major Jarril." The brother walks off towards the Library again, shaking his head. "'f y'see 'im, send 'im t'find me."
Quinten nods his head and sighs, "Yes brother...and i'm sorry." The recruit moves off then, darting up the stairs and out of sight. One very upset looking young buck.
