RW Abbey: Great Hall

The Great Hall of Redwall Abbey. Countless paw falls have echoed from these stones, and untold numbers of feasts and merry gatherings have been held here. A table, not nearly so grand or large as its predecessors, but quite functional for mealtimes, rests near the center of the hall. Chairs exist here aplenty, though most of them are obviously not from the same set. High above, the stain glass windows give the Great Hall a beautiful appearance. The glasswork is exceptionally done, crafted by a skilled artist. The floor is clean and swept. A fire is kept burning in the fireplace at almost all times of the day and night, and there are several more comfortable chairs and cushions set up here, of varying sizes. One looks large enough to easily accommodate a badger.

The Tapestry hangs proud and tall, and while the rest of Redwall may still bear the scars of natural disaster, this most famous of Redwall's relics remains unharmed by beast, time, or the elements. The figure of Martin the Warrior seems to be watching over his own with an unchanging, kindly gaze.

Red, blue, orange, green...vibrant patterns of color are painted on the floorstones of Great Hall by the high afternoon sun that is streaming through the stained glass windows.

Keiran smiles, his shoulders still bouncing in a chuckle as he picks up a piece of fruit and munches on it, swallowing. "So, Furgo. 'ow much d'y'know 'bout th'Bell Tower?"

Quinten comes walking into the great hall, looking tired and a bit the worse for wear, the novice cum recruit shuffles across te flagstones, heading for the fire place.

Furgo says, "Hmmmm...the bell tower? Well, it was the second tallest thing in the abbey, and cylindrical tower with a conical roof, and no entrance from the abbey interior, and in the top hung one bell at first, but later in history there were two."

Keiran pays attention carefully, though he does give a high wave to Quinten as he enters. "Cylindrical, with a conical roof... S'wha' I figured. 'ow about th'firs' Foremole o'Redwall? Know anythin' 'bout 'im?"

Furgo says, "Well, he was a close friend of Martin the Warrior, wa snamed after his gradnfather, and ent with Martin on the quest to Salamandastron, during which the Sword of Martin was forged. He greatly helped in overhtrowing a Wildcat overlady that had enslaved Mossflower."

Quinten stops and looks at Keiran and waves back, sidling over to the brother "Good day Brothers, he catches the last words and grins "The foremole? you still have one of those here?"

Furgo smiles at Quinten, noticing him for the first time.

Keiran nods, slowly, in confirmation of everything Furgo says. "What 'bout where 'e lived b'fore th'abbey was completed? No anythin' 'bout tha'?" He looks towards Quinten again, but shakes his head this time. "Not now, we don' 'ave one, unfortunately. Migh' make this a lot easier 'f we did."

Furgo says, "Well, he lived in Brockhall, with many of the other woodlanders of that time who opposed the Wildcat Overlady that had enslaved Brockhall. Among the others in Brockhall were Bella the first Badger Mother, Abbess Germaine, Gonff, the Prince of Mousethieves who later helped Martin escape from the Wildcat's fortress, and the Squirrel Leader, the Skipper of Otters, and many others."

Somewhere on the muck, Syrhenna has disconnected.

"Brock'all?" Keiran brings a paw to his forehead. "Tha's... quite a 'ike away." He shakes his head. "Where'd y'fin' all that inf'mation, anyway? Couldn' fin' anythin' like tha' 'n th'lib'ry."

Furgo says, "Actually, one day when I was exploring the gatehouse, I stumbled over some scrolls, and they had the information in them. I didn't finish reading them until recently, and I'm planning to turn them into book form once I can find a few empty volumes."

"Ha! Well, s'where I was 'bout t'go searchin' t'day!" Keiran chuckles, biting and swallowing a bit of scone. "Saved me a day's worth o'work." His ears perk, and he looks toward the table, stretching his paws above his head. "Looks like I've got m'self 'n adventure t'go on."

Furgo looks like he's about to say sometihng, but then seems to say sometihng else. "You're going to Brockhall?"

Quinten stops listening to them both, he perches on the edge of a chair, leaning closer to listen more "This sounds really interesting, We know of Brockhall in the mountain....oh and i meant to ask, did ythe bells survive?"

Keiran grins at Furgo, a grin crossing his face. "Yeh, m'goin' t'Brockhall. Why not?" He nudges Furgo under the arm, his eyes glinting a bit in a way that doesn't happen very much to the hare.

Furgo asks, "What are you looking to find there?"

Though, he shrugs to Quinten's question. "Don' know, achally. Wish I'd been 'round b'fore."

Quinten nods his head "Ok well you did promise to shpow me some of the woods, i told you we could go advenbturing sir"

Keiran flicks his ears, grinning at Quinten. "Yeh, I did. I'll think 'bout this'n." He turns to Furgo after. "I read tha' th'original blueprints t'th'Bell Tower were kept 'n th'Foremole's residence a' th'time. So, 'f I'm gonna work on gettin' th'thing rebuilt, I figured I migh' as well start with th'original plan, heh."

Furgo says, "Oh, well, by the time to Belltower plans were drawn up, I believe the foremole lived in the abbey, because the abbey wasn't built until after the Wildcat Overlady was overthrown."

"Yeh, but..." Keiran shrugs. "They're not 'ere, heh." The hare helps himself to another bit of fruit, raising it to his mouth, but mumbling out, "S'why they 'ave t'be in

Brockhall, 'f they're anywhere," before putting it in his mouth.

Quinten frowns "I do not know Brother Furgo, i always heard most of the abbey was planned from Brockhall, and te bell tower was not finished for some time. Maybe they mislaid the plans when they moved from Brockhall to the abbey, so maybe that is why there was a delay in building it" there logic there

"So. That's why m'goin' t'Brockhall soon. Jus' gotta map out a route, an' be on m'way." Keiran clicks his teeth together, rubbing his paws. "Soun's like fun, heh."

Furgo sighs.

Quinten grins and bounces up off the arm of the chair "can i come brother?"

Keiran's ears perk as he looks over to Furgo, picking up on the sigh. "Wha's up, Brother?" He gives a glance to Quinten, and nods. "I'll see 'f I c'n work 't out with y'schedule as a novice. Can' int'fere with tha'."

Quinten nods and salutes Keiran "Ok brother but i hope you can do it, i would dearly love to see Brockhall"

Furgo says, "Well, since you're the only other scholarly brother, I always feel like I can relate to you, and its going to be odd not having you around, even if it's only for a day or two."

}

"Huh." Keiran grins over at Furgo. "M'sure findin' th'original blueprints so we c'n rebuild th'Bell Tower 's 'mportant 'nough Abbey business t'sacrifice th'presence o'two brothers f'a couple days, heh! Why don' y'come alon' with us?"

Quinten grins at Furgo "Yeah come along Furgo it'll be great"

Furgo says, "I'd love to, but, unfortunately can't. With you gone I'd be the only one left here to teach the novices history and arithmetic and literacy."

Keiran's ears fold. "...Achally, y'righ'." He twists his face to the side, then stands up, shoving his plate to Furgo for him to finish up. "I better work on th'route, then. I promise t'be back 'n a few days aft'r I leave, Furgo. Wish m'luck!"

Furgo says, "I will."

Quinten smiles and waves Keiran good bye then turns to the mouse "That;lkl be great"

Furgo nods.

Quinten smiles "It will be great, if we can find those plans"

Furgo says, "Yes, it will."

Quinten stands uip and nods "Well if you will excuse me brother i have classed to get to"

Furgo says, "Well, goodbye, Quinten."
