Not So Fun..Winter Fun
Zork is extra excited and so much wanting to get some last minute fun in before the end of winter, he half pulls, half drags Oz along “Come on Ozzy, ya will luv it!”
Oz sighs “I am beginning to think it was a bad idea to tag along, where are we at and how far are we from the abbey; you know I don’t like not knowing where I am.”
Zork grins “Would I take ya anywhere dangerous Ozzy, I mean really little bro, tis will be exciting.”
Oz frowns, “What will be? I demand to head back right now!”
Zork meanwhile has found his log, he has cut it and shaped it into a sort of cut in half hollowed log, just kept the bottom part and grins large, “Just a hill, in the woods, just off dis clearing I found by a creek ya should see it, cool view”
Oz frowns. ”Cool view? If you remember I am blind, there is no cool view for me and..wait a moment, why are we on a hill?”
Zork grins, yes he knows Oz can’t see it, “Sit” He leads him to the log and helps him set down, “Wot do ya get when 2 badgers set on a hollowed out log?”
Oz frowns, “Zork..don’t ya dare!”
Zork yells out as he pushes them and jumps on “FUN!!!” The log sled races down the hill and narrowly avoids a tree, the plan was stop at the bottom and avoid the little drop off…didn’t happen, they sail over it and land on this other more bumpy hill and crash into a pine tree and finally come to a stop slowly sledding across a half-frozen creek and onto the other side.
Oz gasps, ok not too bad so far and not being able to see may be a blessing he thinks, then hitting the pine tree doesn’t help as he shakes his head and almost falls off the sled, he gets off and goes to spin around to tell Zork off when he catches his footpaw in a small hole by the creek and twists it, yelping as his ankle is twisted and painful, and add he banged his knee on that dumb pine tree.
Zork carefully gets off and pulls the sled onto the shore the rest of the way and looks around, “Whoa, well that was exciting…ya ok Ozzy?”
Oz would glare but he can’t do well seeing as he is blind, “What do you think! This was a dumb idea Zork and who knows how far we are from the abbey now!” Yes he is clearly upset and grumpy over this and sits down by an oak tree, arms crossed over his chest.
Zork sighs and sits down by Oz, “Sorry Ozzy, only meant fer it ta be fun and, well all we need ta do is get over a creek and a couple hills and, then down a path and back to the road and to the abbey.”
Oz shakes his head, “My ankle is twisted and my knee hurts other than that think we can slowly make it back, but if it gets dark I suggest a campfire”
Zork nods “Course..well ”He helps him up “Let’s get a goin' ”
Oz allowed the help up and leans on his staff that luckily wasn’t broken.
Zork decides to not worry on the sled, it did get some damage anyways, he frowns as it is not fit for anything now and shrugs as he slowly heads the direction of the abbey, helping Oz along the way by talking or singing, or simply holding his paw a couple times.
Oz stays alert to all sounds around him as well as all smells around him, just in case it’s needed. He sighs “Must you sing, it’s not the best time, the drop in temperature lets me know it’s getting to be nightfall or already is”
Zork speaks “Yep and we have made it to almost the area between the two hills, even with the long path around we made it and a good area to make a camp fire, it’s along some oak trees, just off the path we sled down by oh..5-10 minutes maybe.”
Oz nods as he goes to sit down, he can only help so much.
Zork clears an area for the camp fire and lays some moss and sticks down and using flint he starts to camp fire spark, he blows on it and it is soon a good size fire. ”Ya be happy to know I did bring some oatcakes and tea, also some bread.”
Close by is heard a scream, and soon it becomes clear who the scream belongs to, a squirrel and she is being chased by a couple weasels.
Oz nods and frowns at the scream, he grips the walking stick in case trouble is close by.
Zork hears it as well and is on instant alert as he scans the area and walks a little ways towards it, his large blade is slowly drawn as he prepares for a fight.
Krysta comes into view, the two weasels clearly after her, she slows just enough to see the campfire, one weasel manages to grab her from behind and the other halts when he sees the large badger, ”It’s a stripe dog Joe..”
Oz stands, staying where he is but listening to the weasels and can judge very well, where they are.
Zork snarls at the word stripedog and instantly rushes forwards to slice at the weasel and looks at the other weasel
One weasel gets a slice right across the chest and its deep, he gets a look of sudden shock before falling over dead, the other one places a knife at the squirrels neck, “Not another step or she dies”
Oz frowns and stays where he is, “Zork..be careful, we don’t want any unneeded deaths”
Zork narrows his eyes at the weasel, “Let de squirrel go ya scum.”
Krysta shivers as the weasel only laughs, “Or what, ya going to kill me?”
Zork grips his blade, he knows any sudden movement would be bad right now.
Krysta frowns as the weasel starts to back up, then suddenly let’s go of the squirrel maid and makes a gasping sound, deep in his neck is an arrow, the squirrel gasps and quickly rushes over to the badger.
Oz frowns “What just happen..Zork?”
Zork answers as he makes sure the squirrel is ok “I am fine Oz but someone else is around and not sure if they are friend or foe”
A voice speaks “I be friend, ya may wanna get a goin’, dangerous ‘ere at times “ He comes into view, a rabbit with a longbow in paw, “Redwall abbey be close, best to get there lads and lassie” He then heads off.
Krysta frowns, she then turns to Zork “Thank you for helping me” She catches sight of the archer, “Thanks!”
The archer may of heard the voice but doesn’t seem to show it, he is soon deep in the woods.
Oz sighs “Ok Zork and..miss, we need to get back to the abbey, may be best to do so now”
Zork shrugs “It is late you know, but yeah ya right..come on.”
Krysta frowns “But is it safe to travel at night and the abbey is still a fair distance.”
Oz hmms “We could stay here, just till daylight”
Zork grins “Ya, no since it letting de campfire go ta waste, and we have bread, tea and oatcakes.”
Krysta smiles “I have some walnuts and cheese, and willing to share too”
Oz smiles, it seems with sharing the meal is good, maybe not large but still good for tonight, as they talk a little and go to sleep, each taking an hour or so to keep watch.
Some hours later at dawn
Zork is up and ready, he has put out the fire with water and dirt and made sure no fire would start elsewhere and looks to the others.
Oz yawns and leans on his staff, his ankle is better, his knee still a little sore but he can walk.
Krysta looks around, “Well let’s go”
Zork leads the way and after maybe an hour or two of walking the abbey is there and just a little south on the road as he grins “See..told ya we get back”
Oz shakes his head” Yeah yeah, let’s just go before they are worried.” He gets to the gates, yes the guard was a little concern but after a short talk he nods being glad it all turned out ok and then the badger heads on inside.
Krysta follows him inside and looks around, she is tried and rubs her footpaws.
Zork grins, he puts his blade away and smiles “Welcome ta Redwall Abbey, me and Ozzy's home”
Oz sighs and heads off to find Sister May and start the day of dibbun duties and classes.
Krysta smiles “Thank you sir, it looks very lovely”
Zork nods, “I will leave you to look around miss..ummm”
“Krysta” She answers.
Zork nods “I be Zork, de Blacksmith ere’ and de other badger with de walking staff be me little bro Oz, he is de dibbun caretaker..now I will leave ya to look around, have a good day” He then heads inside.
