Kentar Meets Mr and Mrs Potter
Characters: Will, Amethst/Bramble, Kentar
Location: Village, The Inn, Barracks
Kentar's Village
The rats slept til noon then got something to eat at the tavern where Amy had applied to sing for the customers and would take whatever they gave for payment. The owner agreed after hearing her sing a little and everything was set up for her to start the following day. The rats had returned to their room and spent the rest of the day lounging about and healing after stopping by the pub to catch up on the local news. While at the pub Bramble asked for their best or whatever the barkeep suggested much to Will's annoyance.
The pub keeper had laughed at the supposed newlyweds, "Don't know what you have in mind missus Potter but we have some Ashturah Rum that caused quite a stir th other day. I heard say it's like liquid gold." He sets a bottle on the counter for her husband to look it over.
Will smiles a little realizing this must be why Aikuen had always asked for rum where ever they'd gone before he stopped drinking. The rat rubs the faded label and squints at the writing on it before asking, "You say some beasts were raving about it th other day, know who they were?"
The barkeep nods a little and describes Kentar and Zekeal as best he can for the rat and what had happened when they were at the pub last.
Bramble nods at the barkeep and pays for two bottles of the rum. Just because she's stuck in a wheeled chair for a while doesn't mean she can't enjoy herself.
Will scowls at his 'wife' a little as he addresses the barkeep, "If you see th stoat tell him t met 'Mr. Potter' at th inn. He can ask for me at th desk an they'll tell him where t go from there. I've heard th name before an that he knew a thing or two about swords. I'm sure they're others around that could do th same job but I'd like t talk with him first." Will hops down from the bar and wheels Bramble's chair toward the door, "Don't forget t tell him," he adds over his shoulder as they leave.
Kentar has been out and about today, alone mostly. The stoat was catching up with old friends, seeing new and old places. And when they parted ways, he went to the pub. He was told that a mister 'potter' was looking for him at the inn. He blinked a little since he knew no mister Potter. So, he shrugged and went off to the inn, getting information at the desk.
The Inn
The rats have been laying around in their room most of the day. A empty glass sets on the table beside an opened bottle of rum and a second unopened bottle of the same.
Bramble lay back on the bed sitting propped up with pillows practicing one of the songs she was going to sing at the pub the next day.
Will sat next to her on the bed counting their remaining money and wondering when Kentar would show up and more importantly what he'd do when he showed up.
The stoat hmmed slightly as he goes off down the hall to find the 'Potter's' room. Kentar takes a deep breath, not sure he should answer the request. Maybe just an old friend he's long forgotten. His fist pounds on the door a few times, lightly. "Mister Potter?" he asks through the door. "It's Kentar...you wanted to speak with me?"
Amethyst turned her head toward the door at the knocking and stopped her singing to whisper, "You going t answer it or me?"
Will whispers back her, "I will." He stands to put the gold away and walks over to the door to open it. "Come on in I have some things t say t you and maybe a job t offer if you're interested," he says to the stoat, trying to make his voice sound lower than it really is. Will stands behind the door as he opens it so Kentar won't see him at first. Once the stoat is inside he closes and locks the door, pocketing the key.
Bramble remains uncharacteristically quiet as she hears the door lock and she smirks at where she assumes the stoat to be, still saying nothing.
"Uh. I don't take contracts anymore...That life is behind me. Long behind me. Maybe Jasper might be the one to talk to..." he looks around, stepping in. He sees the double leg broken rat and tilts his head a little. "Um. What was it you wanted to offer." he looks around.
Will taps the stoat on the shoulder from behind, "Wrong rat. And I thought you could fix a sword for me. Mine kinda broke." He doesn't bother to hid his voice this time.
Kentar huhs and looks around. "What?" he looks...at...Will. "Will." he rubs his eye. "WILL!" Kentar smiles then laughs, leaning down to hug the rat. And then...he pauses. "Wait...if you're Will...then..." he looks to Amy. "You're Amy...WHAT HAPPENED!?" That was almost a shout. "My seasons, what happened!?" he goes over to Amy and looks her over. "What are you two doing here!?"
Amethyst is soaking up the attention once again but grimaces at Kentar's shouting. "What happened?" she echos before calling across the room to Will, "Billy, tell the crazy stoat what happened before I join Fira in the land with no sound."
Will ignores the fact that his 'wife' is using his nickname in front of a family member and shrugs, "What do you want to know? How we got hurt? I broke my arm from jumping off a cliff and she fell off th same cliff from a little higher up. I jumped to see if she was ok or not and we were on th cliff because we didn't want to get killed."
Kentar blinks and looks at them but then quickly turns his attention to Amy. "Wow...my seasons...are...you alright!?" he asks before thinking and looking to Will. "Were you guys...following us or...being attacked or...both?" he asks. The stoat takes sec to calm down before sitting. "Tell me...just what happened..."
Amethyst says, "We were a little tired of hanging around home so we went for a walk in the woods and left a note for the fox. When it started getting dark we headed back and on th way back home we got captured by some former hoard beasts, their leader was the smartest of the lot but they were all seasoned fighters so we didn't have much chance to get away and they dragged us over here to some cliffs eventually and one night when they'd made camp .... stuff happened and later we escaped after their leader died and they probably saw us fall off the cliff and most likely won't be looking for us but just in case and since we were low on money I had my hair cut off and sold it to a wig shop. It works out better this way since I lost all my things. Henna powders* are not easily replaceable I'll have you know! And we never did find my lute. But their stupid leader is dead and we have his gold and I have his belt so that /almost/ makes up for things."
Will nods a little, "We patched ourselves up best we could once we woke up after falling/jumping of th cliff and then made our way here. Found a healer and got fixed up better and got a room t rest up in and /she/ found other ways," he nods at the bottles of Ashturah rum, "to spend our money."
The stoat blinks and listens, sighing. "You do know, there was a staircase there." he says. "We climbed down that thing when we got here. Robin almost killed himself doing it. Kluna found the stairs though..." he chuckles a bit but sighs again. "I'm just glad you two are alright..." he scratches his ear. "I'm sorry we took the trip. Then maybe you'd not have taken that walk..." He then thinks. "I'll buy you another lute Amy." Then his attention is on Will. "Did you say your sword is broken? Which one? The one Aik gave you or the one I gave you before we left?" Then the stoat eyes the bottles, grinning. "Yeah...I know of the rum...Aik got drunk the other night from it...look closely..." he points to the label with Aik's name on it. "I plan on buying the rest the pub has...soon." he nods.
Bramble shrugs, "A new lute would be nice but ... that one was special. Their leader is dead now and we took anything valuable off his corpse already. The hawks can have what's left of him and gladly!" The maid looks very happy at this thought. "Shame he died how he did and not in a worse way but at least he's dead. Falling off a cliff was too good for him after what he tried t do. ..." she sighs calming herself, "... but that is in the past now."
Will becomes serious as Kentar talks about the rum and the pub, "We know. We went to th pub t hear th local news and if th redcloaks had been seen around here, they haven't, and heard that 'Zekeal' had told you he'd made this rum and his name was on it. How long do you think it'll be before those redcloaks hear about that?" He nods at Amy, "... yeah. Yesterday's over and with luck they'll keep on thinking we're dead."
Kentar shrugs a little. "I know...but...They won't come. I'm sure of it." he smiles a little. "Anyways. You guys have us again. And I've got a cabin near the edge of the town...if...you want to stay there instead of here..." he smiles. Pushing ALL bad things from his mind. Just glad the rats are here...and okay.
Bramble sighs addressing Will though she could be addressing the room in general, "I'm done laying here. And I have no stick. ... Remind me again why you wanted to see Kentar first? I doubt th otter would do much to you since it isn't your fault. Besides I'm blaming him for your stupidity so he can't blame you for anything right now. Now that that is settled ... Would you ..."
Will unsheathes his short sword and lays it beside the bottles of rum on the table for Kentar to look over. "We lost most of our stuff when we were captured and weren't able t grab much went we escaped. I should have thought more and not used it t fight that rat ... I'm sure, from th look he had on his face and how he keep th others from doing anything t us after, that he saw what was on it and th others might have too. I'm not sure but if they did and find out I'm not dead ... There shouldn't be any words on it after you fix it. ... you don't need t tell Pa but I ... I broke it after th fall we took th rest of it is stuck in th shore somewhere an covered with dirt an sand ... don't think anyone would be able t find it unless they knew it was there already. I don't want Pa mad about it but this way there's one less thing pointing beasts at him."
He moves over to help Amy off the bed and into her chair. It isn't easy with just one arm but they've done it so much lately that it's second nature to them anymore
Kentar watches and then takes the sword. He slowly examines the remainder then frowns. "Aik really wants you to have it the way he gave it..." he says. "And with me around, and you two around now, there's no reason why it can't be done. I'll fix the sword tomorrow...but I'm leaving the inscription." Then he watches Amy for a moment, sighing. "Sorry about your legs Amy..."
Bramble/Amy, now situated in her wheeled chair, smiles a little, "I'm fine Kentar. Th healer says that once my legs heal ... in a month, maybe less if nothing happens to slow th healing. Anyway he said that once they're better and I'm out of this chair I'll be able t run and climb trees and all the things I haven't be able t do in seasons. And my hair will grow back after a while, it'll be grey rather than black but you'll get used t it. And Chris and th others can play with th chair once I don't need it anymore ... and you never know it could be useful for when Fira has her baby."
Will walks back over to the stoat letting Amy wheel herself around since she prefers it. He reaches out to take his sword back from Kentar, "If you aren't going to fix it then I'll keep it as it is."
Kentar frowns a little. The stoat doesn't hand over the sword. "I told you, I'd fix it." he says. "Anyways. Really!?" he looks to Amy. "That's wonderful...and...wait...what?" he blinks at the baby part.
Will frowns at the stoat, "That isn't fixing it," he grabs for the hilt as the stoat becomes distracted. "I didn't say that. I said she'd been acting off and that could be why. It makes sense or she could just be sick. I don't know."
Kentar frowns as Will takes away the hilt. "Fine. I'll just tell Aik you broke it on purpose because you're trying to protect him. Something, I assure you, he doesn't need." he growls, folding his arms then looks back to Amy. "I don't know...that...would explain the sickness and such..." he smiles a little. "I'll...have to ask Aik..."
Will sheaths his broken sword, "You don't know that he doesn't and th more he has th better I'd think. ... sides th way things are if certain beasts find out who I am they may try an catch me and make me tell where Pa is .... he may have gotten away from them but he's Aikuen th super otter. Super tall an strong. If they did that t me ... I don't know if I'd be able t get away like they did. ... I didn't /want/ t break it. I liked it as it was, but I can't go around with a sign saying 'capture me if you're looking for Aikuen Tazan'," Will growls back at the stoat. He has been though a lot in the last week and only had a short time to recover from it. He glares at the stoat chewing his lip a little since he has few options here at the village. "You said you wanted to help me. ... like Aikuen said he would. If you still want to /help/ you won't hold this against me anymore than he said he would." The rat waits for a response trying to keep his rising temper down just long enough.
Amethyst frowns at the males, rolling her chair back to its corner to wait quietly with her arms crossed over her chest in disapproval.
Kentar sighs. "I'm sorry Will. I'm just..." he pauses. "Confused." he continues. "I'll fix the sword...and remove the inscription." he says quietly, not all that happy about it but he'll do as he's asked.
Will sighs heavily, "Thank you. ... You still didn't answer me. Are you going to help or not?" the rat growls. He doesn't want to hurt the stoat but he /had/ offered and there is no kiln here that he knows of and even if their was he wouldn't be able to get to it soon enough
Kentar nods a little. "Help...with...what?" he asks, tilting his head, sounding a little confused... "It...doesn't matter I guess...I'll help with whatever I can."
Amethyst frowns more and says, "Th otter said that instead of burying himself in his work at th kiln when he's upset he's allowed t try an beat up th otter without getting punished for it. ... No, I don't know how that is supposed to help anything. I'd rather not be a widow before I'm a bride for what that's worth to anyone in this room and I'm sure Garnet wouldn't want to be widowed either. So try not to kill each other. I'll be sitting right here to clean up whatever's left of you two after."
Will nods a little, "What she said. You said you wanted t help 'too'." He doesn't want for a response this time and tears into the stoat as though possessed. His sword remains in it's sheath and he fights with only claw, fang and speed. He never did figure out what Aik had been explaining long before about not using fangs in a fight and right now he doesn't care about fighting fair anyway as he doesn't see the stoat before him but the dead ex-hoard leader just as he was the night before.
Kentar huhs and then yelps as he's suddenly attacked. Warning would have been nice. But this isn't what he signed up for...He falls off his seat and curls into a ball. Sort of like Kluner does when he sleeps, his arms protecting his head. He'd fight back but he's scared he'd hurt Will too much. So for the mean time, he lets the rat beat him up. But he really
can't let it go on for too long. "Uunf...would have...ow...been nice...owww....for warning..." Those fangs though...he can't let it go on for much longer, that's for sure
Will did warn the stoat, in his own way, as did Amy. The rat's attacks become fiercer and he starts swearing at the imagined black rat for his crime against Amy declaring it loudly as he, in reality, beats on the bewildered stoat.
The stoat blinks at the swearing. He thinks that Will sort of lost it. Too much. And having just gotten a black eye, a few cuts and bruises, he figures that's more then enough. Quickly, The stoat spins to his feet, then tries to kick the rat right in the stomach. If he fails...more beatings for him.
Will dodges the kick but just barely as it hit him in the side he stumbles and picks himself up again to get back in the fight. The rat has been slowed down by only having one arm he can fight with and the delay from being kicked may have made him lose what advantage he'd had to start with.
Amethyst glares toward the pair when Will starts swearing, not that swearing bothers her much but what he's saying does. She would rather forget what had happened and now he's bring it up again. She feels around and collects the pillows off the bed and throws them one by one in the direction the swearing and fighting is coming from hoping to hit Will rather than Kentar.
Kentar frowns. "I think that's enough Will. You might be able to beat me up, and I might let you, but only up until a point when you actually start thinking I'm whoever captured you. Sorry. But I'm not going to risk my life over helping you get over your anger." he says, in an angry, yet worried, tone. He wipes a little bit of blood from a cut on his cheek and takes a deep breath. But then a pillow slams into his head, making him stumble a little. "Ow...just whose side are you on, Amy!?"
Will opens his eye which had been closed though out much of the fight and toss the pillow that does hit him at the bed. He looks the stoat over and nods, "You said you wanted t help. .... you're not a stupid otter. .... I'm sorry .... I .... I didn't have much choice. ... leaving and attacking the first beast I'd run into would have probably been worse. ... a little worse anyway. Hasn't been that bad in a long time. .... been a bad week. ... being whipped isn't fun but you know that. And ... th other thing. He's dead though ... wish it'd been worse though ... he deserved worse. .... I'm sorry Kentar." The rat moves to face the stoat, "Do what you want."
Bramble scowls at the pair, "I'm blind I'm allowed to miss once in a while. And as for 'sides' I'm on my own side which neither of you are on right now. If I still had a stick this would /not/ be happening. .... Yes, a new stick is just what I need." she nods to herself her mouth now a grim line. Still not approving of the fighting.
Kentar pants a little. Defending himself from a vengeance wanting rat is rather hard to do. The stoat thinks for a few moments and then sits down. "I want to help you. But I just can't risk getting seriously injured or worse. I've got a wife...three sons...I can't help you by letting you beat me up. We've got to find another way..." he rubs his eye for a moment. "Come with me...Amy...are you okay here for a few moments?" he asks, then grins at Amy's comment. "I guess your allowed...and I'll get you a stick. When I come back." he nods a little. "I think...I have a way for you to vent out your anger, Will. Some of it anyways."
Will chews on his lip a little, "Pa wants me t stay away from th kiln when upset and that narrow my options a lot. I have th key so if we lock th door no one should bother her." He looks over to Amy to see what she thinks of Kentar's idea.
Amethyst sighs, "I'll be fine. ... just don't stay out too long and come back in th same number of piece you left in or less."
Kentar nods. "We won't be too long. And we'll come back the same." he smiles a little. "Come on Will...oh...Amy...do you want to lay down or something while we're gone? That chair thing really can't be all that comfortable..."
Amethyst shakes her head, "I'm fine. I have rum and soon I'll have quiet to enjoy said rum. You may leave now."
Kentar hms and then chuckles quietly. He starts to wonder what Amy is like drunk, but then he shrugs and walks out of the room. He lets Will lock it before walking off, out of the inn and then down to the town square, and then to the barracks. "Even though you didn't come here of your own free will, Will...I'm glad you're here." he smiles.
Village
Will follows the stoat out and hopes Amy doesn't drink too much rum while he's gone. He does know what she's like when drunk and he isn't looking forward to having to deal with that again so soon. He nods a little at Kentar, "We got lucky I guess coming here. Where you are that is. So what is your plan?"
The stoat moves down the path slowly. "Well. The barracks here has a training room. Weapons, big punching bags...things like that. I thought, maybe, beating up something like that would help you work out the anger. Rather...then beating me up.
Will nods, "Tried that before. ... not with equipment but other stuff." The trees back at the dibbuns garden in Moledeep don't hold secrets too well and may still hold a sword but the rat hasn't looked for it in a while so the otter may have removed it by now.
Barracks
Kentar nods. "Well. If it worked then, it should work now." he opens the barracks door and steps in, letting the rat follow. But the first thing they should see is a hall of paintings. And a family portrait at the end of the hall. One of the stoats in the painting looks an awful lot like Kentar
Will looks over the paintings with little interest. At the orphanage Anna had often practiced by making simple portraits of each of the orphans usually soon after they were adopted and there was the seasonal group portrait as well but most of them had been lost in various fires or had been put away after the vixen's death. Will does notice the resemblance to Kentar in the last painting but as with all the others in the hall he says nothing about it.
The stoat moves down the hall of paintings and then down a set of stairs that's at the end of hall to the right. "I think, when we get home to Moledeep, we should have a training room like this. I think it would be nice. Maybe...maybe a good way to get your anger out...if it works." he says before stepping into a large room, with everything he said there would be. There's even a large mat in one side of the room for sparing.
Will looks around the room, "There's one of these in that cave I tried t show you before. Some beasts might still be living there though, hard t tell sometimes."
Kentar hrms and looks to Will. "What cave?" he asks, thinking for a moment. "Oh...duh. Sorry." he chuckles. "That cave." He smiles a little. "Well. I can always make a room like this at Moledeep so you won't have to go to that cave."
Will shrugs, "Best I could tell some otters had lived there. Not sure if they still do." He looks at the equipment more closely, "How exactly do you use this stuff?
Kentar nods a little and shrugs. "We'll have to check it out. Anyways. You don't really need to use anything but the big bag hanging there..." he points to it. "Just...beat it up. Doesn't need anything else." he chuckles a little.
Will had actually calmed down completely by the time they'd gotten to the barracks, but he still nods at his brother and attacks the bag just to see what will happen.
There's a loud smack...and the bag just swings around, hanging from a chain from a rafter above. "See? Its much better then beating me up, isn't it?" Kentar chuckles a little.
Will moves back to not get hit as he watches the bag as it swings around on it's chain. He waits til it stops before hitting it again much harder not satisfied with the fist hit and thinking he could do better.
Again, it swings back, only a little further. Kentar chuckles a little and grins. "Come on, you're not going to let a bag beat you are you?" he laughs.
Will rolls his eye at the stoat and gives the bag another hit and walks back over to Kentar, "Thanks. .... your turn if you want it."
Kentar chuckles then shrugs a little. "No, I'm fine. Thanks." he smiles a little. "Keep going if you feel like it. If not, we could go back to Amy...or I could show you around town..." he smiles a little.
Will shakes his head, "I'm alright now. ... we should get back soon. We've been gone longer than I thought we would be." The rat heads for the door adding, "If I have t sleep on th floor it'll be your fault."
Kentar laughs and nods slowly. The stoat walks off with Will but then stops outside a door that says 'Weapons Room'. "I'll be right back." he vanishes inside then returns with a proper staff. It's just Amy's size too. "Alright. Lets go." he smiles then walks out of the barracks then towards the inn. "Are you and Amy going to stay at the inn or come to my cabin to stay with the otters, stoats, and me?" he asks
Village Square
Will nods approvingly when he sees the staff in Kentar's paw. "We'll probably stay at th inn til tomorrow at least and go from there. ... What do you think they'll do when they see us?" he motions toward his bad arm with his good paw and waves it toward an invisible Amy to illustrate his meaning
Kentar sighs a little when he asks, the stoat shrugging. "Aik and Fira will probably be really worried. Perhaps angry. But...I don't see how you could have known you'd be captured, whipped, and such..." he says. "Just on a simple walk anyways."
"And that's why I asked th barkeeper t send you t th inn and not 'Zekeal'." the rat says quietly wondering just how mad Amy will be when they get back to the inn.
The Inn
Kentar nods a little. "I'm sure he'll be more happy to see you then angry." he smiles a little. "Trust me." he chuckles.
"Unlike someone else who'll be more angry than happy to 'see' us," Will mutters as they enter the inn and go off toward the rat's room. He fishes the key out of his pocket as they walk down the hall.
Kentar blinks a little. "What?" he asks, tilting his head a little as they go down the hall. He stops at the door and tilts his head.
Will ignores the stoat as he unlocks the door or tries to anyway but when he tries to open the door it won't open.
Kentar blinks as he's ignored. The stoat shrugs and then waits. "Well?" he asks. "Going to open it?"
Amethyst can hear the door locking and some beast pulling on the door trying to get in. "It was already unlocked!" she calls from inside knowing the only other beast with a key is either the innkeeper or her 'husband'.
Will tries the key again and the door unlocks though he's not so sure he wants to go in now. "... This is your fault," he reminds the stoat looking a little annoyed as he opens the door and waits for the stoat to go in first.
The room is lit dimly by a candle on the large bedside table. The unopened bottle of rum is right where Will had left it earlier and the opened bottle sits empty next to a candle and a cup of coffee. A chair sits next to the table and another sits farther off leaving the second place at the table empty. Amy's shirt and pants are on the floor and she is sitting up in the bed in what can be assumed is a chemise. Her chair is in its corner near her side of the bed, that is the left side. The maid looks like she's all ready for bed and the dim lighting accents her face very nicely, if she weren't glaring at the door this would all be a very inviting sight to come back to.
Will blinks as he peeks into the room while keeping the stoat in front of him since it is /his/ fault they were out late and he needs to give Amy her new stick anyway. "We're back," he says quietly knowing she won't be happy with him for a good while.
"Do you know what time it is?!" the currently bedridden maid growls, "What happened to 'We won't be gone long'?!"
The stoat frowns at Amy. "You're not a wife yet, Amy, you're not allowed to be saying things like that." he pokes her with the staff, frowning.
Amethyst takes the staff firmly in paw and moves it around feeling for the stoat and whatever else is near. Should she find the stoat she'll be aiming a few quick blows to his head as she talks if he doesn't move fast enough. "I'm not /allowed/ to wonder where," she swings her new staff at the stoat, "you," another swing, "two," another, "are?!" and yet another swing at the stoat. "There are beasts looking for the water-dogs and a small hoard looking for me and Will! I had no idea where you two were or when you'd come back. ... /If/ you'd come back! Do you want to get killed? If you do then go by yourself!" Amethyst bangs her staff down on the floor hard and starts crying.
Will stands in the doorway not sure what to do with Kentar there. Normally he'd be the one on the receiving end of Amy's stick and he'd talk to her and help calm her down but the stoat is there so he stays put waiting for his brother to remember he has a real wife who might be equally upset he missed supper tonight and would be worriedly wondering where he is.
Kentar just turned his head, towards Will when all of a sudden there's a thud, sending him onto the floor. That was...ow...the stoat slowly stands. "From what Will said, they think you're dead...and not only that, he's with me...in my town...there's no way we'd get attacked...or captured." he growls then blinks as she starts crying. He isn't really sure what he just did. Did he make a dibbun cry? Holy moly, he did too...
Will had expected her to hit Kentar but not /that hard/. Once she's stopped swinging the staff around he walks over and pulls it from her paw setting it by the table and out of her reach. He looks her over a moment before moving out of reach of her to sit on the floor by Kentar, "You ok? She doesn't usually hit that hard. ... She'll be better later. ...." He's quiet a while before says, "Let us know when you're heading back so we can go with you. If we can we might ask Pa over tomorrow or th next day. ... You can tell Garnet if you want but I'd rather you not tell Pa an Mum about us being here. I'll tell him in a day or two. Sorry you got hit on th head an yelled at. ... Maybe we can get one of those bags or something t use at home. ... I don't know. Pa wants me t not use th kiln for that an th bag is made for that but he'd find a reason t not used that if he wanted to. ..."
Kentar is really dazed. In fact, Amy might have given him a concussion from the smack to the head. Slowly he wobbles to a chair and sits down, rubbing his head. "Ow..." he mutters quietly before nodding. "Yeah...bag at home...got it..." he mutters before looking to Will, nodding.
Amethyst is still crying though quieter now. She doesn't seem to be aware of whatever else may be going on right now.
Will moves to stand next to Kentar's chair, "Do you need anything?" he asks moving the empty rum bottle out of the way should the stoat want to lay his head down on the table for any reason. "Um ... we have another bottle of rum which I don't think would help you much .... and half a cup of lukewarm coffee which you probably don't want either."
Kentar blinks several times before answering the rat. "No...no..." he shakes his head. "I'm fine..." he slurs out once before standing, almost as if he's drunk. "I'll be fine..." She really shouldn't have hit him that hard.
Will rolls his eye at this. "No you're not fine. Just stay there and I'll see if I can get you some ice and maybe get us both something t eat. I've heard of glass jaws, maybe you have a /glass/ head." The rat shakes his head and leaves the room to find some ice in the eating hall at the back of the inn.
Amy has stopped crying and sits looking miserable as she tries to piece together what's going on. "K-Kentar? Will?" she asks experimentally to see if either are still in the room.
Kentar looks to Amy and rubs his head. "Will's gone to get food. I'm still here..." he says quietly. A bit slurred but not too much now. "You alright?" he asks her.
The blind rat puts a paw to her head and sighs, "I've been better. ... Did you get knocked out? Wouldn't have made it this long if I couldn't defend myself. Sorry I hit you so much ... and so hard. You two were gone a long time and I was worried something had happened. Finishing off that bottle didn't help matters. It's good rum though I just shouldn't drink so much of it at one time."
Kentar nods a little and sighs. "You didn't knock me out but...you dazed me enough to make me slur and stumble." he says. "I'm fine. Or I will be fine..." he replies. "I'm sorry that we kept you waiting. I really didn't think we'd worry you so much.
Amy sighs again, "Not your fault I guess. It's been only one day since Will and I escaped. Those hoard rats are likely still around somewhere nearby even if they did turn around without checking again to see if there are still three rats at the bottom of the cliffs. None of them were too bright except th one that's dead now and he wasn't /that smart/ since he's dead. Dense as they are, I'm sure they can still tell three from one and this is the closest settlement to where we fell from and where they were last camped at."
Kentar hms for a few moments. "How many of them were there?" he asks, the stoat thinking for a few moments.
The maid frown a little, "I don't know eight, ten maybe a little more. I didn't count them. They're hoard rats they may be dumb as mud but they can fight /really good/, trust me on that one."
Kentar thinks for a few moments and then nods. "I'm sure." he mutters quietly. "I've got an idea though..." he looks around the room then stands. "If my leader was killed, I'd be hanging around that place for a bit to see what happens. Soo..."
"Soo ... what? I'm missing everything aren't I?" Will says coming back in with a tray of food for the stoat. He sits it on the table and lights a second candle since the first one is nearly spent. The tray holds a bowl of soup, a glass of water, a pint of coffee, a small bowl of fruit and some stale rolls. Will takes the coffee and sits down in the remaining chair, pulling it up to the table so he can sit with Kentar. "Eat," he says to the stoat nodding at the tray, "Then tell me what you're talking about."
Kentar looks to Will. "Yes. You are. We're talking about the hoard that captured you and Amy. I think...I'm going to go kill them. Without hurting them." he thinks, starting to eat slowly. "I think...for revenge on what they did to my friends...and family...I'm going to become their hoard leader...send them to their deaths..." he thinks. "Shouldn't be too long, I think. If they're as dumb as you say..." he thinks. He'll probably not do it if he's asked, but he doesn't like beasts being mean to his family.
"Wouldn't work," Will says, "They'd try t kill you. They're th kind that would only willingly take orders from another of their same species. I'd go so far as t say any leader they have next would have t be from their own group. I more or less defeated their old leader and they didn't put me in charge though that could have had something to do with our trying to leave instead of trying to take over, when they were staring stupidly at where their old leader had fallen from, but still they wouldn't have you for a leader just cause your a stoat. They even said they were treating us better than other captives they've had cause we're rats."
Amethyst is quiet again and waits for something to happen as it looks like she won't be getting to bed anytime soon.
Kentar hrms a little then frowns slightly. "Then I'll arm myself with my throwing knives, find them, and kill them." he nods. "As long as I stay hidden I'm fine...and that staircase at the cliffs will really make things quick." he chuckles in between mouthfuls
Amethyst blinks, "There were /stairs/?!" She rubs her head, "... oh well, probably would have fell anyway and broke my neck or something. I must be crazy to want to marry into your bizarre family. Yes that must be why I'm going to marry someone who thinks jumping off a cliff is a good idea. ... At least we'll all be crazy together, safety in numbers and all that. She moves the pillows behind her out of the way so she can lay down. "It's late. /I'm/ going to sleep. Someone can wake me when it's morning. And the beast that does had better /not/ be a stoat."
Will sighs a little at Amy and says to Kentar, "When you're done eating you'd better get back to your cabin. Garnet'll only get madder if you stay away all night too."
Kentar huhs and then ahs. "Right...yeah. I guess. So no vengeance for me." He chuckles a bit and quickly finishes up eating. "Thanks for the food Will. Glad you two are okay. I'll be around for you both tomorrow, okay?"
Will's moved to sit on the bed and has taken his boots off. He looks up at the stoat and nods, "That's fine just don't come too early, alright?" He pulls his shirt off and tosses it onto the floor as he sees the stoat is almost done eating. He leaves his eye patch on though he's used to sleeping without it, he can take it off after the stoat leaves.
Kentar nods and smiles a little, standing and taking his dishes. "Yeah. I'll be around in the afternoon. I won't tell anyone your here. Good night Will. Good night Amy." he smiles, leaving and closing the door behind him.
Will waves a little at the stoat as he leaves and once he's gone he goes to lock the door so he can finish changing for bed. He doesn't bother to use the screen provided since Amy's asleep already and couldn't see him even if she weren't. He crawls into bed and curls up beside Amy as he pushes all the unpleasantness of the last week out of his mind.
*Henna powders -
Henna in an ancient dye made from plants that, in its powdered form, can be mixed with water to form a paste which can then be used to dye a person's hair red. Indigo or Black Henna another plant dye is used in conjunction with henna (on its own it is a blue dye). When indigo is dyed over hair that has already been dyed with henna you end up with black hair. The dye lasts an indeterminate amount of time and is very messy to apply.
Both dyes are native to India and were available in Europe in the 1600s.
