It's a horrible thing, this fever!
Mossflower Woods -------------------------------------------------------------------- To the west, the forest stretches right up to the dirt road, in places threatening to grow right out into it. You find the way constantly hampered by thick growing bushes and tangled undergrowth, as there appears to be no beaten path here for you to follow if you wish to go deeper into the woodlands. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Exits: [F]air [G]rounds, [E]ast, [N]orth, [D]irt [R]oad
The day is warm and sunny, almost too warm for comfort. But here, beneath the mighty trees of Mossflower, it is perfect --except for the tangling vines, of course. The vines russle, and the overhanging branches part to reveal a mousemaid. She looks furtively around, as if watching for enemies.
Valley is out on a walk. At this moment she does not feel like being around the abbey. She does not catch sight of the mouse maid and is just about to sit down and write in her journal.
DoraRose ducks as the foxmaid comes into veiw. She tries to remain unnoticed, but she steps on a twig, which, of course, snaps. She gasps and freezes.
Valley head snaps around as she hears the noise. She is still suspious of anything she can't see right away and she calls out "Who's there?"
DoraRose sighs and steps out of the shadows. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you. My name is DoraRose." she is walking with a slight hobble.
Valley relaxes slightly but still keeps her guard up "oh, I am Valley. Are you hurt?"
DoraRose smiles a little. "Yes, but I shall be fine, thank you." she nods to the journal. "That's a nice notebook."
Valley glances at the book "this old thing? thanks. are you sure you're ok?"
DoraRose nods, even though she's wincing. "I think so... especially if I sit down and rest for a moment."
Valley now shows some worry "what happened?"
DoraRose slowly sits on a fallen log as she answers, "I was attacked by a group of marauders. But don't worry -- they shall not be harming any other beast."
Valley frowns "oh. I see. It there somplace safe you can stay?"
DoraRose nods. "I'm on my way back to Redwall Abbey." she sighs and rubs her left side, a battleaxe now showing from beneath her cloak.
Valley lets out a rare smile "you are from Redwall?"
DoraRose nods yet again. "I'm visiting, although I'm thinking of staying. May I ask where you are from?"
Valley frowns "I am from no where important. I am thinking of staying at the Abbey myself."
DoraRose smiles at Valley. "Well, since we seem to be going to the same place, would you care to travel there with me?" here she stands, wincing.
Valley nods "I would be happy to."
Off to Redwall Abbey...
RW Abbey: Main Gate
You are at the main entrance into Redwall Abbey. The gates are a a massive, double-doored wooden affair, reinforced with iron, and with a heavy latch and crossbar on the inside to prevent would-be invaders. While the gates almost always stand open, you get the impression that the builder of this portal designed it to be nigh impregnable. The entrance arch is amazingly thick, denoting the strength and thickness of the ancient walls themselves, which, despite the upheavals of the past, and numerous cracks present in the rose colored stone, still stand tall and strong. Uncountable pawprints can be seen in the dirt, leading both in and out of the Abbey. Along the bottom of the wall on either side of the arch, weeds and wildflowers can be seen in plenty.
You can hear the bustle of activity within the Abbey, and the occasional murmur of a passing conversation. The sun is high overhead, and shadows are small. All is bright.--------------------------------------------------------------------Are you a newcomer to Redwall? Valley walks beside the mouse maid and looks over now and than to make sure DoraRose is ok.
DoraRose is now leaning on the battleaxe, and she seems to be in allot of pain. Sweat is beading on her forehead and upper lip, and she is breathing heavily. Her smile is now replaced with a frown and furrowed brow.
Valley looks over at Dora "do you need help?"
DoraRose shakes her head and goes to say somehting, but instead starts to collapse, her blue eyes rolling back in her head.
Valley jumps the catch the mouse before she falls "are you ok? can you talk?"
DoraRoses' eyelids flutter as she is caught by the vixen. She tries to speak, but all that comes out is part of a word, "I... Infer... Infirm..."
Valley nods and starts to carry/drag DoraRose toward the Abbey, murrmering all the way "you will be ok, you will be ok...."
DoraRose is being lugged to the Abbey. She is kind of uncounsious, so she really has no say in the matter.
Valley keeps dragging the mouse.
To the Infermary...
RW Abbey: Infirmary
Several beds are lined against the red sandstone walls of the Abbey's Infirmary. An examination table, separated from the rest of the room by hanging blankets, rests against the far wall. Tucked into a small alcove is a sizeable workbench with various containers for mixing and preparing medicinal compounds. Against another wall is a desk for use by the Infirmary Keeper. A curtained off alcove behind the desk hides a locked door to the Infirmary's supplies and linens.

Leon is sitting in the infirm, he has just helped bandage a paw of a cook who cut thier finger and is not checking herb supplies in the cabnets.
Valley drags the half uncounsious mous maid into the room. She drags her over to Leon and gasps out "she...needs...help" she falls back onto a chair with a grunt
DoraRose is limp and really has no strength to do anything. A healer rushes over to help her. She has bound wounds on her upper left arm, right thigh, and 2 cuts on her left side, and blood is starting to soak through the bandages.
Leon gasps and about falls out of his chair, he gets some herbs known to heal wounds and also prevent infection and swelling and runs over "What happened!" He goes to start to help tend to her wounds.
Valley shrugs "she...was fighting....sombeast....I think"
DoraRose is lifted up onto a bed be the other healer, a big, strong male otter. As her head hits the pillow, her eyelids flutter and she murmurs, "Marauders... fight... b..." she is not doing to hot.
Leon checks her over as the other healer also helps, he does look worried but tries to keep it to himself, "Need to undo the bandages and get fresh ones, before rebandage clean the wound and apply healing herbs and then rebandage"
Valley asks "will she live?"
DoraRose will live (probably), but she will have a hard road to get there. She is also suffering from heat stress and dehydration. She really has no say in the healers helping her and fixing her wounds, though she is trying to speak.
Leon frowns, he goes to get a few wet rags and places them on Dorarose's arms and forehead, he gets a cup of water and gently lifts Dorarose's head a little and places the cup by her lips, "Drink..slowly please Dorarose, please."
Valley stays in the chair and watches with a slight frown. If there is any blood she will probably have to leave so as not to throw up on every one.
DoraRose , in her half-awake state, obliges to Leon's request as the healers are joined by another 1, this time a female squirrel. She drinks slowly as the healers begin to unwrap her battle wounds.
Valley seems to be getting slightly green around the gills and she turns away from the scene
Leon watches them, "Carefull...some of the bandages may stick, gentle please" He points to a mixture" Apply that, helps prevent swelling and infection and it will help her." He checks for anything that may need sewed back up before herbs are applied, he speaks as he works, "She will need to rest for a while."
Taran wanders into the infirm and blinks at the beasts here, "w..w..whats happening?"
The healers begin to soak off DoraRoses' bandages. All 4 of them are oozing blood, which will do nothing to help her weakend state. She stirs as Taran speaks, and her eyes flutter open. She speaks 2 words through pale lips, "Taran... Leon..."
Valley glances over. Bad idea. The all ready ill looking vixen gets quite ill now and she runs out of the room with all haste. She is soon back but she stays far away from the bloody secne.
Leon frowns, he goes to help get the rest of the bandages off and gently cleans the wound, he gets a small amont of a peppermint oil,it helps numb an area a short while, he then does any sewing needed with carefull skills he has learned, the other healer helps by holding the herb mixture which he then starts to apply to the wounds, he speaks as he does so, "Your at the abbey, its ok Dorarose, your safe."
Taran frowns, "Who hurt Dorarose?"
DoraRose moans as the oil is rubbed onto her wounds. She seems to hear Taran's question, because she tries to speak. "Mar... marauders... rose...storm..." she is now making no sense. Probably the fever and dehydration.
Leon makes sure the rag on her forehead is slightly cold to help her,he goes to help bandage one arm while another helps rebandage another arm, same fo her other wounds, he frowns, "Willowbark tea, helps fevers...she needs some, and a little water too."
Taran sits down and watches, "Should I let the abbot know, though not sure where he is"
Valley can't stand to be in the room any more and she leaves quickly.
Leon says, "May be good idea."
Taran nods and stands as he slowly heads out.
DoraRose suddenly faints completly, relaxing into a limp noodle. She lays there, clean bandages on her wounds, sweating as the fever rages in her body. She looks peacful, though.
No, DoraRose is not going to die. She's just going to suffer. Thanks for reading!
