Admin shouts, "Zoe_Lang has an announcement! The Halyard Storm TP is now starting!"

<> Halyard is used to storms, being a seaside village, but today has been something else entirely. The tiny village has been battered by high winds and driving rain and a rapidly rising tide. But instead of getting better, the storm has been worsening as evening approaches. Debris already litters the ground, though for the most part the buildings are still intact. What sane creatures are huddled away inside, which... explains why Taye is not! He's come from Sala when word came of the bad storm, hoping to provide what assistance his sort-of training in healing can provide. He's got his uniform jacket pulled over his head and he's almost bent double against the force of the wind gusts, actually holding onto the side of a building as he goes.

<> Thad is spending some good, quality time in Halyard. Perhaps initially aiming to enter a building, the runner probably saw how full it was therein and decided therefore upon sitting with his back to the outside wall, enjoying the intense rain and general bleak outlook with a complete lack of irony. Well, at least he's under a small balcony, but still, with the heavy storm he's kind of soaked anyway. He doesn't seem /overly/ concerned about the storm. "Lieutenant," Thad pretty much shouts to get the other hare's attention as he spots him.

<> Heru has arrived.

<> Tyree has arrived.

<> Shouting is right. Taye hardly hears the shout, with the way the howling wind tries to carry it away. His head does swing around, though, and he stares at Thad like he may have actually lost his mind. With a grunt of effort, he drags himself the distance over to Tyree and ducks against the wall next to him, hunkering down. His fur and clothing are plastered to him. "What're you doin' out here!" he shouts.

<> Keita has arrived.

<> Keita walks into the kitchen.

<> Keita walks in from the main room.

<> Keita has left.

<> "Keeping watch," Thad transparently lies, grinning. "Nah, just enjoying the chaos. What are you doing here, sir? At least I was already here when this all started happening; you just showed up."

<> Rahier enters the tavern.

<> Rahier has left.

<> Rahier has arrived.

<> Rahier walks into the kitchen.

<> Rahier walks in from the main room.

<> Rahier has left.

<> "I thought I'd come help!" Taye explains with a shrug, indicating the equally soaked healer's pack on his shoulder. "Figure with a storm like this'un 'n' all..." He gestures vaguely around. He has vague memories of a bad storm when was a little tyke. Nothing like /this/, though. He keeps his eyes peeled for any unfortunates out in this weather.

<> "Every time..." Dagda is wandering aimlessly through the streets, trying to stick to alcoves and overhangs, and clutching his thin waxed slicker and satchel about himself. "Every bloody time I forget to make a reservation in advance..." At each successive door, he stops and beats on the door, shouting an unheeded request for shelter. Casting about, he notices the Taye and Thad. The healer waves and shouts a harried greeting.

<> Sephora enters the tavern.

<> Sephora has left.

<> Sephora has arrived.

<> Sephora walks into the kitchen.

<> Sephora walks in from the main room.

<> Sephora has left.

<> "Well, Lieutenant...!" Thad just keeps grinning. "Unless you can blow harder than the wind's blowing you, I don't know how much assistance you'll really be! No disrespect meant, sir!" He spots Dagda, pointing to him just before the healer's greeting, then raising that pointing paw in a wave. "Hey! Get inside, what are you, crazy?"

<> Taye considers moving away from the protection of the wall and even stands up to do so when a battered fish trap goes kind of, um... flying by. Heeee sinks back, and just waves frantically for Dagda to get his butt over and join them. "C'mon! We need t'get inside!" he shouts to Dagda.

<> To round out the trio of hares with T's in their names in the area, Tyree comes strolling down the street, hard pressed to keep his nice posture in this ridiculous wind. His cloak is flapping like mad, his ears smacking against his face as he looks around for a place to help out. The Patrol can hunker down, but out here... "Patrol ahoy!" he calls out when he spots the others, drawing closer. "'Ave you all decided ta' enjoy this lovely spring rain too?" Except the wind is blowing, so he sounds more like "Ahh- dehh- vy'ing- oo'?!"

<> Sensible beasts may be inside but Heru's not sensible and can't really fit inside anyway. Besides, the fishers went to hole up and might have left some of their catch behind. Never let her have any so here's her chance. She's having enough trouble getting there though. Nearly to the docks and edging forwards against the wind. Can't fly, that wouldn't be smart, she's already loosing the odd feather while she's hunched down and trying not to get blown off her spindly legs.

<> Shielding his face from the wind-blown rain, Dagda makes a mad dash to Taye's position, and, once he's arrived, makes a handy little wind-stop. Blinking moisture from his eyes, the healer attempts to communicate the situation to his superior. "The tavern's jus

<> "The tavern's jus' abou' full up, sah. No more rooms, but standin' space kin still be found. I suggest we make f' it."

<> "Tyree!" Thad waves at the third newcomer hare since he's been sitting here. "What, are they evacuating the mountain, or something?! Get over here! Taye's too upbeat, we need someone to counteract his chipper personality!" When Dagda makes that suggestion, he merely scoffs, stepping away from the wall and holding out his paws as he stands in the street... The wind catches his wet clothing, building up enough momentum to make him stumble as he gets used to having to balance. "Go inside? For what?! It's just a little /water!/"

<> It's funny how the patrol hares just find each other like this. It must be the uniform - they stand out like sore thumbs. Taye is just grateful they're all unhurt so far. He gives Tyree a look, like, huh? But just gestures him forward, hunkering in beside Dagda to listen. He nods his agreement, while eyeing Thad... yet again like he's crazy. He's about to say something dry and totally witty when some shingles from a nearby roof come flying at the back of Thad's head. "Hey look out!" he shouts.

<> "Di' y' know y' c'n drown in a /tea-cup?/" Dagda shouts at Thad, providing a dry and totally witty retort. His ears are flapping in the wind. Flappingly.

<> More than one shore creature is fleeing the restless sea. With the surf pounding at the rocks like a millstone, Scuttle moves upland, finding even the poor shelter of the buildings better than drowning in a tunnel on the beach. The large crustacean bobbles eye-stalks around the corner, his armored shape hunkered down as bits of wood bounce from it.

<> "I suggest we go underground!" Tyree replies to Dagda. "Doesn't look like these village types did much preparation, is it?" He's still glancing around calmly, like it really is just a calm spring shower, keeping himself grounded and steady compared to the others, but his ears are as much at the mercy of the wind as everyone else's. "Duck!" he calls to Thad as he spots the flying shingle. Just to add insult to injury, a piece of drift wood bounces off a roof and nearly misses him and Dag. "I say, seems the storm is 'avin' a go at us!"

<> Thad is almost cackling with laughter, blissfully unaware of flying objects. When he's told to look out and duck... At the same time, really... He turns around to see what exactly is threatening him, then in a quick jerk reaction, does indeed duck, paws going up to his head to try and protect it. The shingles are pretty sharp when they're spinning around and flying at you, and he ends up with a few scratches on his forearms and a slightly deeper gash on his forehead. He falls over onto his scut, pawing at his head and looking at the resulting blood, eyes widened.

<> Taye almost barks out a laugh, at that, because... he /did/ bring a healer pouch. Ignoring the high winds and flying objects, he ducks forward and across the short distance to Thad, grabbing hold of his arm and trying to encourage him across. "Someone help me!" he shouts. "We're gettin' inside! The tavern!"

<> Heru edges forwards, easy now. Wait a second 'Hey look out'? she looks round right about when the strong gust hits her. Distracted for a second she's taken right off her feet with a squawk! She impulsively flaps to try and regain her balance but the wind catches her wings and spirals her up and straight back into the ground again, tumbling out of control.

<> Duty calls! Rather than shout a warning, Dagda leaps into action. Well, strides. Slowly. The healer kneels by the fallen Thad, opening his satchel to rummage as he has a thousand times before, only to have the flap ripped from his paws. Alright then. Dagda manhandles the flap back down, taking Thad's other arm to help.

<> Shalia has disconnected.

<> Shalia has connected.

<> A nearby door opens, then shuts again with a great bang. A doe forces her way out of the small crack between the door and the entrance, holding what seems like an umbrella. "Shoot," Shalia seems to notice familiar faces, but before she takes a few steps the gust almost knocks her off her feet.

<> Somewhere in the little glimmer of memory that's imbedded deep inside that thick shell, Scuttle connects these fuzzy, mouth-noise-making things with safety. Sloooowly edging out from behind the shelter of the building, one precarious jointed step at a time, the crab sidles closer to the mute of hares...

<> "Ahh... phooey," Tyree says as Thad goes down. At least it didn't bean him right in the head, that would have been a disaster. He glances around for others that are having trouble. He spots Heru, and dutifully marches towards her, dodging an errant lobster trap as it stumbles past him. "Come on, then!" he calls out to the unbalanced bird, holding out his paws for her to take some shelter in.

<> Aleltai goes In Character.

<> Thad has his arms taken, and he kind of starts working with his legs to stand up. Somehow, he's not so much with the bravado anymore! "I'm bleeding," he states, and that blood is running down his forehead thanks to the driving rain. To him, it seems like it's just a lot of blood, though. "I'm... I'm bleeding!" he shouts, this time more urgently.

<> Even while all of the crazed beasts are trying to rescue themselves, there's a sudden and rather /loud/ tearing sound as one the buildings across loses its roof in a rather spectacular fashion. It's like the winds just peel the building like a banana. Even as Taye is trying to help Taye, he ducks instinctively closer to the ground, his ears flattening to his skull out of abject fear. Nonetheless when Thad starts moving, he does too, keeping his head ducked. "Inside! /Now/!" he shouts. When the buildings start to resemble fruit, it's time to go.

<> Aleltai wakes up from a nap to find that the very weird cave noises and the sudden attack by rats in his dream were not merely imaginary. Soaked through and bruised from enduring the weather near the ground for an hour or more without noticing, he picks himself up and stumbles in the direction of the tavern. He could go to his own place, but there's probably some safety in numbers.

<> Aleltai enters the tavern.

<> Aleltai has left.

<> Aleltai has arrived.

<> Dagda points towards the building being ripped to shreds. "Le's hope it's more safe than /tha'!/" The healer turns to Thad, eyes bleary with rain. "You're gonna be /fine,/ tis jus' blood!"

<> "W... Whoa," Thad almost stops his movement completely when the roof comes off the next building. His eyes would be bulging with shock, but he has to keep them at least a little closed to stop the rain from blinding him. "...I... I think we can make it back to the mountain if we just get away from the sea!" And the buildings!

<> "Oof!" An unexpected large piece of limber hits Shalia's back from behind, and she practically gets /thrown/ towards the other hares. Half-frowning in pain, she greets them through clenched teeth. "Good...evenin', sir, good day isn't it...!"

<> Heru is bigger than a hare, probably best if Tyree doesn't try to catch her, the paws would shelter very little. She's comes to a stop by hitting into a building, hopefully without taking out Tyree in the process.

<> "Head wounds bleed like crazy!" Taye shouts in explanation and reassurance to Thad, even as Shalia is sort of thrown into their little huddle. He snatches out, grabbing hold of her tunic at the shoulder to try and help steady her. "We're gettin' inside. C'mon!" he shouts. S'more shingles go flying just over their heads and he ducks with a grunted curse.

<> Aleltai walks out to the entrance.

<> Aleltai has left.

<> "Ahh!" Tyree yelps as the heron very nearly smashes into him with her flailing wings. He takes a step back and looks to the others, making sure they're coming along all right. Why are people still coming /outside/? That's where all the flying projectiles are! When the roof is separated from its moorings, he ducks down behind a few full water barrels to avoid the cascade of debris, glancing up at Heru. "Think it's time we joined the others! Try walkin' a bit, um... lower, right?"

<> Dagda has disconnected.

<> "I... I really think we can get back to the mountain...!" Thad suggests again, still kind of getting tugged along by Dagda and Taye. He's not really gonna resist the numbers right now.

<> By this time, rain beading on his shell, the crab has moved up behind the little group, and is scuttling in their wake, like a large spiny puppy.

<> "Thank you!" Over the loud howl of winds it's not really easy to hear what people are saying, but she guesses she's heard it right anyways. Steadying her feet she glances around trying to see who's here. "I second that!" She responds to somebody's suggestion.

<> "Not with you bleedin' like a stuck pig, we're not!" Taye continues to drag Thad along, with Dagda's help, until they all reach the front door of the door. He tries the handle but it's locked, so he pounds on it like his life depends on it. Which it probably does. Someone finally comes to the door and tugs it open just enough, gesturing the group to come inside - rapidly. "Watch the sandbags!" the otter warns. And then blinks at the sight of the crab scuttling behind. But hey, even the sea creatures need safety, eh? Taye eases in first, dragging Thad with him and Dagda leading up the group, with Shalia and the crab at the rear, no doubt! It is SO much quieter as soon as they're in the entry, and Taye lets out a sharp sigh of relief.

<> Dagda has left.

<> Heru scrambles about to get herself back on her feet, pushing off the building a couple of times before she manages to find her balance and recatch her breath. Her world's a bit dazed and dizy so Tyree's stared at for a moment before she really snaps into action again. Move, others, doesn't care who others are she just picks the right direction by chance and quickly strides along the side of the building, let the wind hit her into the wall all it likes, she's not going up again.

<> Thad practically stumbles up against a wall, patting at his bleeding head and glancing at his paw oh, about every second or so. "This is... Th... This's insane! The whole town's gonna fall to pieces!"

<> Aleltai has arrived.

<> Aleltai props the door open to look outside.

<> "Don't close that door yet, you blighters!" Tyree shouts pointedly, as he staggers along behind Shalia and Scuttle, able to do little else but keep Heru company. /He/ happens to still be in the storm, thank you very much whoever has the door!

<> Aleltai leans heavily against the door, struggling against the wind when he notices the straggling group.

<> After letting the crab in Shalia holds the door open with great effort, seeing at least two stragglers still out in the rain. She hesitates for a moment, feet shuffling against the ground before throwing her body against the door to hold it open. "Hu...rry..!" She breathes out, wincing every moment or so.

Somewhere on the muck, Madison has connected.

<> Seeing the the door is sufficiently covered, Aleltai gets out of the way, heading for the inside of the tavern.

<> Aleltai enters the tavern.

<> Aleltai has left.

<> If anyone took the time to notice, they'll have seen the storm surge that's made it all the way to the edge of the village, by this point. Taye's already inside, but at Tyree's shout he takes the door, peering out. He /does/ see the rising water - and yet another roof peel away. It crashes into another building, collapsing the side of said building inward. He grimaces, hoping that no one was inside. He glances to the side at Shalia, caching at the back of her tunic to make sure she doesn't fly away.

<> The crab quickly shuffles inside when a large open space presents itself, taking the doorway for shelter of /some/ sort, even if he doesn't understand what. His mama didn't lay no dummy eggs.

<> "Wh... Why are we wasting our time, here? This is just gonna fall over soon, too, then we might as well be dead!" Thad's still shouting, even though he's indoors now.

<> Heru has forgotten care and her long legs have her going at a very swift pace. Within seconds she's to the door and well, a little stumped for a second as she sizes it up. Another burst of wind and she'll either fit or get stuck trying. She does pause to look back for Tyree, nice enough to see he's there and try and aim to shove him inside with a light headbutt before she wedges herself into the door way and scrambles through it.

<> Bump! And in goes Tyree.

<> The entryway just got considerably tighter! Taye moves out of the way of the entering bird, and Tyree, and moves to Thad, pressing his palm over the bloody gash on his forehead. "Thad, shut up. You go back out there 'n' you'll lose more'n a layah of flesh." He nods towards the main room. "We oughta move on in there. Safah. 'Least we're kind of undahground inside there." It's not quite a basement, but it's a bout a half level below a first floor.

<> Seeing all in, Shalia lets go of the door slightly and follows Taye, ignoring the lound bang the shutting door gives. Almost at the same moment she nearly collapses with a paw to her back, which is dampening slowly with red blotches, frowning in pain.

<> Sephora has arrived.

<> Tyree has arrived.

<> Aleltai has arrived.

<> The tavern is pretty well and packed. It's just a pity that it's for these reasons or Keita could be proud of such a night! The place has been shored up as best as it can be, all of the windows shuttered and tables pushed up against them in case they blow in. Most of the other tables and furniture has been pushed to the far side of the room, away from all of the creatures huddled by the bar at the other end. No wants to be crushed to death by flying furniture, you know.

<> Claws clattering on the planks of the floor, the crab clambers a few steps to one side, then the other, eyestalks bobbling. Somewhat skittish around so many fuzzy noisy things. The sound of something solid-- likely a barrel, from the hollow impact-- smashing against an outside wall nearby causes the eyestalks to retreat a moment, then slowly peep back out. Hmm?

<> Shalia has disconnected.

<> By now Thad is getting tired of the blood dripping into his eyes. He keeps dabbing at it with his soaked paw and sleeve quite ineffectually. "This's... Insane," he repeats his sentiments from earlier, mostly to himself.

<> The bang from the door is a little delayed as Heru gets all of her inside, a bit at a time and still loses a couple of tailfeathers to the thing. And who's smart idea was it to put in a hallway with stairs? She's squished and trying very hard not to fall down them. Her head snakes on past the last of the hares, into the main room and turning to blink at something hitting the wall outside before her tail is even halfway down the steps.

<> "Indeed. I haven't seen anything like that since I moved here... Nasty, nasty weather out there.", Aleltai says, shakinf his gently.

<> The door from the entryway comes open and a whole bunch of patrollers and.. a crab? And a heron? Are making their way into the main room. Taye is amongst them, now dragging Shalia's unconscious body along. As soon as others see that there's an injured beast they come over to take the load from him. He mutters his thanks, and only then notices the pain in one of his arms. He glances at it, twisting it around. There's a piece of wood sticking out of it. Nothing big, but he yanks it out with a look of disgust, clamping his paw over the wound. "Is everyone all righ'?" he calls.

<> Shalia has left.

<> Rahier has brought a bundle of blankets with him from the kitchen, something he brought down from the rooms earlier. His foresight appears to be have paid off, with the throng of wet people in. "Blankets at the bar!" he announces, putting the stack on the wood top.

<> Aleltai takes one of the proffered blankets and curls up against an inside wall.

<> "Ah. Well. This is quite... snug," Tyree remarks. They really should have just gone back to the mountain when they had a chance. He's kind of mashed between a crab and a heron at the moment, and awkwardly sliiides out to Thad's side. "Now now, Thad. We're perfectly safe in 'ere." He glances at Shalia and sighs, shooing Dagda to look after her.

<> Sephora steps out of the kitchen, into the area behind the bar, supporting the very very pregnant Keita. She narrows her eyes at the door as even more beasts come in, naturally seeking shelter in the tavern. It's where the booze is! "Sit," she says firmly to the other doe, indicating a stool with a nod, then looks toward the little group of drenched, newly arrived patrollers. "Hey - what was that godawful loud sound a few minutes ago?" she asks the bucks, no one specific really.

<> Keita would be playing more of the hostess, but instead she is rather gravid at the moment! She and Rahier and Sephora come in from the kitchen, the doe indeed leaning on Sephora. She waves a paw vaguely in answer to Sephora and sinks down onto the stool, breathing out a sigh and pressing a paw to the small of her back. "Drinks are on the house t'night, but nobody's t'get drunk!" she calls out. "Food, s'well."

<> Deepspine hanging about behind the bar, not just to make himself useful but also because a hedgehog in a crowd is rarely a good idea. He tries to see over the gathered beasts "More beasts in? Is that everyone or is there more to come? Getting very cramped"

<> "I reckon that'd be the door, I hope it's still there." Aleltai says breathless from the wind outside and thankful to be inside.

<> The crab goggles one eyestalk at Tyree. It's as close as a compound eye can come to looking like a little lost puppy.

<> Turning to Tyree, Thad looks at him, blinking pas the fork of blood streaming down the middle of his forehead and down both brows into his eyes. "I... I think if we bolt, we can make it to the mountain, and... And it'll free up some of the space in here. D... Don't you think?"

<> Darklett enters the Northern Road.

<> Darklett has left.

<> "Coupla roof's... peeled off," Taye answers at a mutter, shaking his head. He has come forward, snagging a blanket for himself and draping it around his shoulders, shivering a little. At least they've got a good fire going in the fireplace. He is sore-tempted to go over to it, but instead he heads to Thad and places a paw to his shoulder, encouraging him to sit.. anywhere, really. "No. We're stayin' here, Thad. Sit down 'n' let me fix up yer head."

<> Aleltai shakes his head at the comment. Being the only squirrel in the room, he's feeling surrounded by hares, crazy hares at that.

<> "... coupla roofs peeled off. /Peeled/? Like what, bananas?" Seph says with a grimace and a snort, shaking her head. Standing behind Keita as the doe sits, she presses her hands firmly down on her shoulders. Stay, staaay. "You lemme know when you're ready t' move, yeah?"

<> Tyree gives a little awkward wave at the crab as it ogles him. "Er... nice ta' be inside," he smiles thinly, and puts a paw on Thad's shoulder as well. a trio of T's all in a row. "Now, now," he says again, and reaches into Dagda's bag to hand it to Taye. "Just stop that nonsense. We go out there an' we'll be blown right inta' the sea, good fellow."

<> "That's about right, peeled and shredded. Hate to be a banana out there.." says Aleltai, answering the rhetorical question off-handedly.

<> Heru looks around from the doorway, so little room. She raises he head to scan over the crowd, looking for something...ah, short beasts! Poor group of shrews don't look too happy as the heron stands right over them and claims the airspace for herself, tucking one leg up against her body she's taking up as little floor as possible.

<> Waving a paw at the crab produces a similar wave in return, though it's less a hello and more like the beast is comparing claw sizes in a mating dance by the shore. Waggle, waggle. Then a clack or two as he steps one side to the other. Lively conversation it isn't.

<> "We stay here and we'll..." Thad gulps down. "We'll be crushed by a bunch o... Bunch of rocks and shattered timber," the runner comments to Tyree, almost under his breath, panting and wiping at his brow in irritation as he has a seat, almost collapsing into it, head leaning back. To, you know. Accommodate bandaging.

<> Rahier is a little unnerved not by the packing-in of beasts but by the collection of them-- namely a bird, and a crab. He decides he will stay well enough away from Heru for the time being and instead picks up one of the blankets to carry on over to Taye, to drape it over his shoulders. "Hey, kiddo. Didn't know y'were here, too."

<> "At least we'll be removable and buriable, better than being washed out to sea. At least it is by my mind" Aleltai says with a cynical twist in his voice and a shrug of his shoulders.

<> Taye nods his thanks to Tyree, looking rather grim about the whole situation. It's his default, okay! He digs into the pack and is about to start cleaning up Thad's forehead when Rahier drapes a blanket over his shoulder. He glances back with a clear sigh of relief. "Thank the spirits, I was hopin' you were all righ'." He turns his attention back to his work, quickly cleaning and then pressing a cloth to the wound to staunch the bleeding. "Hold that there for a bit, Thad," he orders. "Don't move."

<> Oh, don't worry, Seph. Keita's going no where fast. She is completely wiped out. "Just... if anyone needs anythin', lemme know," she mutters vaguely. No one's probably going to hear that, though. Just then, from directly over head, that rather horrid rending sound can be heard again, and Keita's eyes lift ceilingward. "... there goes the roof," she announces, a little louder. At least there's a second floor, heh. The whole tavern seems to shift and groan with the stress.

<> That's it. Armored shell or not, the crab vanishes under a table. If 'vanish' is the right word to apply when legs and claws are still poking out like extra carpentry. The cautious eyestalks slowly, slowly peep up a moment later.

<> "Alright," Thad concedes, bringing his bleeding, but not quite so much as his head, arm up to hold the cloth, closing his eyes and catching his breath. At the hideous sound from above, he blinks them wide open. "Can't believe this..." He mutters. "Gonna die in a pile of rubble..."

<> Heru settles down, tries to relax, grimaces at the sound of the roof. It's not her so everything will be fine. A deep breath and she ruffles her feathers, reordering them and shaking off some of the water. She scrunches her eyes shut as the building moves, trying to pretend it's not there, right over her. The shrews are probably a little more grateful for the the feathery cushion between them and the ceiling now.

<> Tyree blinks, unable to comprehend the swively dance of the crab. Is it saying hello, or does it need to go to the bathroom? "Sah," Tyree says, giving Rahier a salute. "Bad night ta' go on a stroll, wasn't it?" He looks up at the first roof, glad they still have that between them and... well, freezing, raining, pelting death. "For the record, I believe I said we should go somewhere underground."

<> Great, now what?! Aleltai thinks, this is not good at all.

<> Deepspine freezes as if breathing would bring down the whole building, just his eyes move around quickly, looking for cracks. On instinct he's slowly disappearing behind the bar, not really noticing that it's because he's started to curl up.

<> "Ah, good," Seph huffs out at the sight of Taye. That's one less Rah-child to be worried about. "Anyone seen Lin, though--" She cuts off with a flinch and a little sound of surprise, gripping the bar counter as the tavern roof.. is eaten up by the storm. This is followed by a snort, and she shakes her head at Tyree. "You wanna drown? Anywhere underground 's gonna flood f' sure."

<> "We're /not/ gonna die," Taye promises Thad with nearly a scowl. "So shut up." Because, honestly, he's freaking Taye out. Of course, the other thing that is freaking Taye out is the water that's starting to seep in around the sandbags piled at the door. "Ty, we're as underground as you wanna be," he mutters, his eyes now rather wide on the entering water. "Look," he adds tonelessly, and points.

<> "Um." That's Seph, who's spotted the slow but sure leak of water into the room.

<> Aha! The tunnel is flooding. Scuttle knows what to do in this instance. You start scooping beach-sand and water up with you claw and bale it out the tunnel opening. Only... where's the tunnel opening? Uncertainly, the claw scrapes and clacks over the rouch boards, trying to bale water but only flinging a few drops around. This works better on the beach, honest it does!

<> "...Yes sir," Thad replies unenthusiastically to Taye's assertion and then order. He holds that cloth to his head and goes back to closing his eyes, feet now nervously tapping alternately on the floor beneath them.

<> Sephora clears her throat. "Firs' floor's floodin', second floor's got no roof. Jus' so's everyone's up t' date, an' all."

<> "Well, either that or wait ta' get blown away. We seem ta' be between the surf an' a big open place, don't we?" Tyree says to Seph, remaining calm as he puts his paws on his hips. Their shelter is slowly getting torn to pieces and /now/ they're getting flooded. What a rude hurricane this is. "May be best ta' set up more of those sandbags, if we 'ave 'em?"

<> Rahier pats Taye on the shoulder, of course he's okay. Well, at Seph's comment, his ears turn down. "Lin, mmm. I think she was in Halyard t'day..." But, of course, a cursory glance reveals no Lin in evidence. It makes him worry briefly, and nibble at his lip, but the water dipping around his boots slowly steals his attention.

<> It steals Taye's attention, too. He glances down at it and then glances around. Looks like there's still some sandbags piled in the corner. He limps over that way, leaving Thad to his eyes resting. "Let's just... bloody well block up the whole bloody door?" he suggests uncertainly. He hefts one of the bags up.

<> (Aleltai is glad there are more sandbags, but the water is worrying. "At least if it floods we can always punch a hole in the ceiling as we float up.")

<> It's like that scene in the Titanic, the slow menacing advance of water. Seph shakes her head, leaning into the counter. "Is everyone in here who's gonna be? Better try'n barricade th' door better, 'specially in case there's a big surge."

<> Heru scrunches her eyes shut more firmly. Going to die. Buried under a building! It's not right! There's too many beasts, there's not enough room, there's no escape and now there's flooding! Drowned and crushed to death, underground. She can't think of a worse way to go! She breathes deeply trying to keep her panicking quiet.

<> Grabbing a second sand bag, Aleltai heads for Taye and the door.

<> Tyree moves to help Taye with said barricade, feeling like they're preparing for an imminent siege storming force rather than a big old wave. "S'not fair, really," he mutters as he drops the first bag down. "Seein' more action against a hurricane than /vermin,/ wot."

<> THUD! there goes the sand bag, at least the waters' aren't flowing torrentiously in yet.

<> "If they're not in here by now, they're already lost," is Taye's helpful comment as he slams the sandbag down on the pile, then tries to shove the others more firmly in place against the door. He glances to the side at Tyree and actually manages a small grin. "M'sure this'll bring out the rats, don't you worry."

<> "That is if we don't suffocate," Thad continues his thoughts from earlier, quite content to sit there splashing his nervous tapping feet in the floodwater and apply pressure to his head wound.

<> Scrabble, scrape, scrape. The crab bales water rather stupidly into the wall, where it simply dribbles down to join the rest.

<> Sephora's jaw tenses for a moment, and she gives Thad a short look. "You know, private, you ain't helpin', but if you don't give your trap a rest you might jus' start makin' things worse."

<> Deepspine peeks back over the bar. Alright, a little water is better than the ceiling coming down. He gives the ceiling a frown, stay up there or else. He shuffles out to lend a hand with all the sandbags "Cheery lot we've got in today, eh?" he nods to Sephora "Aye, enough talk of death. Making me twitchy. Way it's going out there it'll have to blow itself out before long"

<> "Any empty barrels around here? Maybe we could store the water." Aleltai says as he heaves another sandbag into position blocking off the flow of water to the crab.

<> Eeep! The sandbag thudding in front of the crab sents it darting under the table once more, nervously clicking legs on the floor. Eyestalks peer at Aleltai. It almost looks offended.

<> "In the kitchen, back in the storage room," Keita pipes up at Aleltai's question. She has one and hugged over her rather pregnant belly, a little slumped against the counter. Poor thing, hardly very nice for a hurricane to hit at a time like this.

<> Sephora turns her attention back to the others, ears back, eyes narrowed. She's in focused Lieutenant mode. "Anythin' on th' floor, bags an' supplies, make sure 's all up on th' bar. An' was anyone in any of th' upstairs rooms when th' roof blew off?"

<> Without a verbal response, Thad acknowledges the other lieutenant by not only ceasing talking, but also stopping his splashing. Now he's quite still, just pressing the cloth against his forehead and trying to envision a scenario where he comes out of this alive.

<> Aleltai sighs, better watch out for the scuttling thing, obviously it's easily frightened.

<> Rahier is moving back to the bar, helping one of the older shrews who would rather not rest underneath Heru. The major spreads out one of the blankets and helps him on up, letting the old man lie down on it.

<> "If they're smart, they'll 'ave made their way ta' the mountain," Tyree says about whoever might still be outside. "Or into a ditch away from the ocean or the like." He plops another one down, hoping to create a formidable holding force against their only weak spot. He gives the bags a friendly whack. "Mum's the word an' sharp's the action, right mates?" He glances down at the crab. "Thanks for the assist there, m'bucko."

<> Taye moves back for another sandbag, watching as more water seeps in even as they work to stem the flow. There's only so much the sandbags can do. He drops another one down on the stack with a thud. "I think we'll be okay if we just stay in 'ere. The structure's stone, 'leastways, even if the second floor peels away. An if the flood watah's get bad we can pile on the bar 'n' the tabletops..."

<> The eyestalks goggle back at Tryee with quite an intelligent expression for a crab; which is to say it's clearly smarter than a mossy rock. Fuzzy thing makes nice mouth-noises, and all is well. It creeps out from hiding, eyeing the barricades.

<> Aleltai squeezes around the crowd, heading into to the kitchen. Returning a moment later, he rolls in a barrel while holding a ladle obviously borrowed from the kitchen.

<> Halting for a moment to set the barrel upright, he begins to ladle the flooding water off the floor and into the barrel. It looks really silly, but maybe it'll work.

<> Heru slowly opens her eyes again. Things seem a bit better. Still trapped but the place isn't getting smaller. She doesn't even seem to notice Rahier taking away a shrew, a little out of it as she is. Blame it on colliding with a building.

<> "F' th' love of," Seph mutters, shaking her head as she gets no answer. She glances at Keita, but leaves the doe alone - she wasn't out here anyway, she was in the kitchen trying to save her liquor supply. "No one knows? Well before anythin' gets worse I reckon I oughta make sure there's no one upstairs, else they'll have a hard time lastin' out th' storm with no roof." She's thinking aloud, and gives a glance in turn to the other officers present. 'cause if no one disapproves...

<> 'Course, one thing they hadn't anticipated was the fact that the windows outside are only a foot or two from ground level... and so water starts to flow in from /there/, once the water reaches that level outside. Taye grunts, breathing out a sigh. He glances Sephora's way, finally registering her question, and glances around. "I don't know... Dagda said somethin' about folks bein' up in the rooms, though," he offers. Kind of on the late side, but!

<> "If they're upstairs, they probably would be sprinting /down/stairs by this point, wouldn't you think?" If only Halyard was as dry as Thad's tone of voice right now! He's /helping./

<> ... "I. Don't think you should really even bother with th' sandbags, guys," Seph adds, as water crests the windowsills and spills over. It's pretty much ankle-deep all across the room now, isn't it?

<> "I doubt anyone would be able t' do a whole lotta sprintin' with that wind, private," Seph now says toward Thad, lifting her brows. "But thanks f' volunteerin' t' come with me."

<> "I think we should probably set some o' th'tables by th'bar," Rah says, and does just that, dragging the table on over to sit next to his pile of blankets. "We migh' end up sittin' on 'em both. Y'shouldn't sit down in th'water if y'can avoid it, it'll make y'cold."

<> "He's got a point," Tyree says, nodding to Thad. "Anyone up there would definitely have charged in by now. But if you're willin', I'll come with." He moves away from the bags, sloshing through the water. "Ah, get some tables an' chairs ready for sittin', right?" he advises the others.

<> All sanitary concerns aside, Thad leaves his bloody head rag there on the chair behind him as he stands and starts sloshing through the water. "Yes ma'am," is his only response as he walks towards the passage upstairs. He gives a quick glance to Tyree, which includes a raise of one brow and a little smirk of thanks.

<> Aleltai finishes filling the barrel full of water and hammers the lid on. Then he slides it over toward the bar and crawls on top, still holding the ladle.

<> Keita looks like he's a bit worried at the thought of anyone going upstairs, buuuut he doesn't object. He just gives Sephora and Tyree a long look and then turns, to start pushing the tables into place.

<> Deepspine looks at the windows and scans the room "I don't think we can bail all that out even if we have enough barrels. Erm, yes, everyone on the furniture then" except perhaps the bird. He start wading around to move the tables again.

<> "Would you rather check an' find th' rooms empty, or not check an' find a dead body tomorrow?" Seph counters, and heads up the stairs with a shake of her head. "Could be supplies worth salvagin', too. Jus' hold ont' somethin', wind's gonna be fierce."

<> The shelters are moving! As beasts slosh through the deepening water to move tables, the crab moves hopelessly from one departing piece of furniture to another, unable to stop the redecorating. He waves his claws, agitated and bobbing eyes peering this way and that.

<> Keita is observing all the goings-ons as quietly as she can manage, all things considered. She watches the path of the brave lot towards the stairs and then grimaces, faintly. She rises from her stool, going to slip through the kitchen door. Ahem hem! "Forgot somethin," she mutters under her breath, for anyone interested!

<> Heru quietly watches. Water's not so much of a bother to her, she stands in it to fish all the time. It's what happens when it reaches the ceiling that bothers her. She fixes her eyes on the closest window and finally moves, going over to peer through it.

<> Thad follows Sephora up the stairs -- at least it's not flooded on the stairs yet! -- and prepares to venture back into the elements. The bleeding on his head has fortunately stopped enough to not constantly be dripping into his eyes, or so it seems.

<> Tyree braces himself as he wraps his cloak tighter around him. It's soaked to the bone by now, but it'll provide some protectiom, he supposes. "I'll go first?" he offers, putting a paw to the door and listens warily to the screeching outside. "Last one out shuts the door, if you please. One... two... three!" He pushes it open...!

<> Rosomak enters the tavern.

<> Rosomak has left.

<> Thad walks out to the entrance.

<> Thad walks out of the tavern.

<> Thad has left.

<> Once sufficient tables have been moved into place, Taye works at making sure that everyone has made it up onto the higher ground of the table and the bar, especially those who are injured. That done! He hunkers on the bar, just watching the rising flood waters and listening overhead. "Good luck, guys," he murmurs, and is quiet.

<> Keita walks into the kitchen.

<> Keita has left.

<> Taye has disconnected.

<> Rahier lets Seph go. Of course, he's worried, but he would probably end up being a hindrance and there's people in here who could use his help. It might get a bit gloomy in here when the water puts out the fire. He turns his head as Keita heads into the kitchen and then looks back, before blinking. Hm. Maybe she needs some help? He turns from his spot on his table and sloshes on over to peek into the kitchen.

<> Aleltai grabs the other spare sandbags and piles them around the fireplace, displacing the water slightly. Then he returns to his barrel.

<> Those still downstairs are treated to the once-in-a-lifetime spectacle of a crab trying to clamber up onto a table. This involves too many limbs flailing, clattering like a knight in full armor doing yoga, and several instances of almost falling onto his hard-shelled back. He finally hunkers in frustration, eyes peering over the thwarting tabletop. So. You win this round, Mr. Table.

<> Aleltai walks into the kitchen.

<> Aleltai walks in from the main room.

<> Aleltai has left.

<> Aleltai has arrived.

<> Taye has left.

<> Deepspine helps with the last of the tables before leaning round to look for a gap for himself "Erm, room for a spiky one somewhere? Inconvenient time to be a hedgehog, fish would have been better today" grunting as he climbs onto a chair to get up onto one of the tables. Mind he does pause with all the scrabbling noises and looks back down to the crab "Eh, funny little thing. Suppose you're alright for all this water too" he goes to scoop the thing up and put him on the table since it clearly wants to be there "Not picking you back up again if you fall off though"

<> All the cool kids are doing it. Scuttle wants to be up on the table with the cool kids. Er, beasts. The hedgehog's spines scrape harmlessly over the hard jointed limbs as they flail a bit, gaining purchase. Hedgehogs are supposed to be pointy? Really? Not to a crab. The table creaks as he noisily clatters onto it.

<> Heru has space again. She's got the flooding floor to herself...It helps as she walks into the middle of it and just stands there for a moment.

<> Scuttle goes home.

<> Scuttle has left.

<> Aleltai has disconnected.

<> Aleltai has left.

<> Heru has disconnected.

<> Rahier turns around from the kitchen. Keita's okay for now, apparently. He climbs back onto his spot on the bar, looking to Deepspine and then the tall bird. Strange bedfellows.

<> Heru has left.

<> Unwise bedfellows. Deepspine's full of spikes and the bird could smother with featheriness. The hedgehog's content enough to sit on the edge of a table for now anyway. Keeping an eye on the windows and the big quiet bird.

<> Deepspine has disconnected.

<> Rahier will stay well enough away from the bird, thanks. But hedgehogs he has no problem with. "Y'want a drink?" Rah asks, as he's sat upon the bar. "I think I'm gonna float away anyhow, so migh' as well make it merry." Now he's mumbling, leaning over to fish out a bottle from behind the bar, pop it open, and take a drink.

<> Deepspine has left.
