Frigg n' Sandy on the Shore (and Malcolm)
« continued from We're Gonna Need a Bigger Boat.
- Location: Shore somewhere off of Collinsel Seaport
- Participants: Amos, Malcolm, Sandy, Frigg
"Shaddup and keep rowing fox, and I'm the captain because this is my bloody boat ya young'in, " Amos hisses, soaked and miserable as she struggles against the storm to row outward even as others start to make their way into the harbour, "Yes ya told us about her, she was a double crossing good for nutin' wench."
Malcolm growls. "Shut up yerself, fleebag. Yer nothing but a headache!" he barks at the 'captain'. The lizard goes to give Angus another smack before he sets himself down, folding his arms and slouching miserably. He doesn't seem to care he wasn't the one being told to shut it.
Cold. Wet. Quite irritated. Sandy was at her wit's end tonight with all of the god-forsaken irritating, childish actions the group was making - on a BOAT, of all things... She quite well remembered her OWN time on a ship - and the one thing she learned was to not rock the boat. "EVERYONE is being a bunch of dibbuns right now!" she said angrily, rubbing her temple. "Ya all a headache, and who asked ya miss squirrel?"
Despite the barbed words, Amos is using all his strength to row them out further from the boardwalk. Not seeming to mind the stares and laughter of beasts point and laughing at the sorry lot of sailors, "Stop smacking ya father too Mal, can't say he doesn't deserve it for being a fool but that's quiet enough of that!"
Malcolm rolls his eyes and hisses quietly, the lizard shaking his head. "I'll do what I want." he grumbles out with a growl. "Where are we going anyway?!"
Sandy bites her lip at the comment. She was holding her tongue this time around... For her better judgement, and because she thought it was funny; to her, Amos was a pathetic captain if he couldn't keep a crew in order! But, she figured something else was in order... "I'm sorry, Amos."
The wildcat seems about to either answer or yell at Malcolm some more when a huge swell hits the boat as lighting lights up the sky and then another as the harsh winds move to turn the boat onto its side and Amos goes flying out of the boat. Dangeon he saw go in first, and quickly searches for her before he's grabbed her. He begins to swim away from the boat. The last thing he saw of it is more swells tossing it about violently.
Malcolm blinks a little bit as the boat starts to shake and turn and somehow, he manages to stay mostly seated. Well, he doesn't go flying out of the boat at least. He watches Amos fly out and, of course, like a scared little kid would, he holds onto the boat, almost seeming more afraid of the water than the feline. He gulps as the boat is tossed around. He doesn't really know what's happening to anyone else, but finally, after a few long moments of thinking, he bails out, jumping into the water and onto the next problem.
It is funny, how things seem to happen like this when she apologizes. In a literal flash of light, she was tipped out of the boat - presumably with Frigg, considering they had been sitting close together. Mainly because Sandy had personally vowed to protect her. Doing her best once they hit the water to keep both afloat, she scanned the stormy waters. "AMOS! AAAMOSSSS!" she screams, looking for the wildcat. Did he make it?
"Abandon the bloody boat you fools, and swim if you want to live!" Amos shouts out over the storm as he swims while holding Dangeon close to him. He already a ways away from the boat now. He scans the water for Angus and Stubb, who he assumes the dragon has with him. Only to almost drown as he swallows a mouthful of water and focuses on swimming. He can't do anything for the others now. In theory, jumping from the boat was the best thing to do.
In reality, Malcolm jumping was easily one of the stupidest things he's ever done. The lizard surfaces and ends up taking in a large amount of water as he takes a breath, coughing and sputtering. "H-help!" he calls out and goes under again, only to surface a moment later. "I can't swim" and he's gone again. After surfacing again, he looks around, unable to see ANYONE. He starts trying to bat his arms around the water and kick, and, like he's seen some otters do, use his tail as a rudder. It kind of works as he starts to move off one direction.
Sandy had had just about enough of things. She was doing her best to keep poor Frigg afloat, and alive, yet the whole group had led her to near-death experience after near-death experience. She was SICK of it... But she wasn't complaining at this point, as she desperately paddled and lugged Frigg. "We'll... make... it..." she said, sounding a little strained, herself.
Frigg certainly is flung out of the boat with her squirrely sidekick, and feels herself hit the water flat on her chest. Now, being carried along with Sandy, she felt a bit safer than by herself. Her smock, being more bouyant than not, flattens out all around her at the water's surface, "Oh, look at me - I hope the fish don't see me like this!" What a thing to say... especially as the boat is propelled up and over their heads by the crest of a wave and threatens to flatten her and the squirrelmaid!
Malcolm goes under again as he makes his way in some random direction, unsure whether its the right way, or the wrong. He coughs again as he surfaces. This time, he gets a good breath and goes under on purpose, opening his eyes, squinting as he tries to see someone, anyone he can.
Sandy closes her eyes, working her body furiously against the waves, against the gale... But it was starting to put too much strain on her, getting both herself and Frigg out of harm's way. Still... The adrenaline was rushing, and it was making her work like clockwerk, as she was just desperate to get back to shore... To live. Or, at least... know Frigg would see her family agai.
The boat at the last second is tossed over their heads, as Frigg and Sandy are carried through the trough underneath and over another crest. The mousemaid clings to her companion, but is conscientious of the latter's tiring state, and so only does enough for her part to stay with her. Still, it very difficult for her to kick her legs like she used to... being drowned in the middle of a puddle of her garments might be slightly comical, if the situation weren't as frighteningly real..
It isn't very clear under water either. So looking around failed miserable. He takes a breath, and remembers he's under water, coughing once he reaches the surface, shuddering. "No..." he grumbles. "I wont...drown...here!" he tries his hardest, aiming for shore, 'swimming' as best as he can, but failing miserably against the water.
Sandy closes her eyes as the boat went right over their heads. She was terrified. Afraid she was going to die tonight... NO! The thought wasn't coming to her mind! She quickly swam for the boat, to haul herself and Frigg on the back of it to take a minute or two to rest... Though not before she called out again. "AMOS! ANGUS! MALCOLM!"
"Sandy, our voices must be like those of ants on this terrible storm... I don't think it's any use. I hope Malcolm can swim - he's not looking too well over there. There's still a bit of rope here - I can grab onto the boat, and see if you can reach him on it..." She finally grabs the stern, and somehow the boat has righted, but it's taking on water, and fast.
Malcolm had been getting further, and further away from the boat, and closer to shore. He looked over his shoulder to see the boat off in the short distance, but instead of going back to it, he pushes on as best as he can, struggling though as he moves.
Sandy gives Frigg a hopeful little smile. "We'll make it..." she whispers. She sounded dog-tired though. And considering her lack of sleep... She quickly grabbed Frigg's paw in her own, and resumed making the mad swim back to shore, the strength back to her legs and free arm.
Frigg is reluctant to let go, which may be just the instincts of a creature as small as she is, but finally she paddles her way to Sandy and, this time, clings as tightly as if she were her own child. "Mayeul, I'm coming... mommy'll be there.." She mutters to herself, squeezing her eyes shut!
Its some time before Malcolm finally reaches the shore, and when he does, he crawls up on it, on all fours, coughing hard as the water escape. He collapses there and just lays there for a moment or two, breathing hard before he rolls over onto his back, looking to the sky. "G-great..." he grumbles. He looks around once and then, when he doesn't see anyone, he checks to see if the bug orb thing is still in his pocket, and by luck, they are. He reaches in and opens it, letting the bugs fly into the air, using it almost as a distress signal, hoping someone will see it and find him. And with that, he closes his eyes and passes out, too tired to do anything else.
Sandy desperately fights the water like a mad squirrel. She was relieved to finally hit the shore, but, being so tired, she merely crawled away from the water, fell down, and sighed. "We made it, Frigg..." she whispered with a little smile... Only to burst out in tears, covering her face. Everything was catching up to her, and it just all came out. Right there and then.
Frigg points up at the sky, "Look! What a-- what are those?!" She pats Sandy on the back, "No need to cry m'dear... Malcolm is quite the resourceful beast - he may save us yet!" The bugs' amber light sparkles brilliantly, and, as they swarm together and apart again, they seem to create an intermitten signal. "Somebody's... somebody's bound to see it.." She coughs and hacks, her sinuses sore from the salt water abusing them.
Malcolm is unconscious, laying on the beach under the glowy bugs.
Sandy looks up at Frigg, smiling weakly. Thankfully, she hadn't exerted herself to the death point, but she was bone-tired. And still crying. "We're saved..." she replied, before resuming her bawling - from how loud it was, they would be heard, luckily. "WE ALL ALMOST DIED! WHAT THE H-HELL DID I GET M-MYSELF INTO!? T-TRAMPING THROUGH A S-S-SEWER, A-ALMOST BEING B-BURNED ALIVE, A-ALMOST D-D-DROWNING..." she lamented... "All f-for naught but t-t-to return to l-loneliness..." she finished with a sniffle.
Frigg tries to keep calm, although she's completely exhausted herself and going berserk might be close to impossible... the mousemaid keeps a paw on Sandy's shoulder, "There... there Sandy, I think it's becoming a bit o... of the norm fo-- *cough hack* for these beasts. I should have told you this sooner, I think..." She does then collapse on the sand. The bugs, still shimmering in the summer heat above... somebody... will find them.
Sandy trembles a little bit, watching Frigg collapse. "So alone... so alone..." she muttered to herself. She was tired... depressed... scared... She wondered if the others were okay... And finally, she blacked out. Her last concious thought was, "Where did I go wrong?"
