Lacota is the current Friar at Redwall Abbey, a red squirrel.
History
A slave in his youth with the exact circumstances of his past prior to Redwall being unknown, Lacota was presumably born before the Plague. Friar Lacota came to Redwall sometime during Abbot Lorimis' time and already being an expert cook he quickly established himself as the friar for the order. Much of Redwall's recent reputation for the greatest food in Mossflower Country is thanks to him.
Marek's Occupation of Redwall
When vermin took control of the Abbey led by Marek during the Summer of Remembrance, Lactoa helped with the resistance efforts and took part in the battle to wrestle control of Redwall back to the order armed with nothing but his frying pan.
Personality
The squirrel is legendary for his prowess with cooking, as well as his irascible nature. He has been known to become extremely annoyed when he feels "his" kitchen has been disturbed in any way, and is infamous for being especially harsh on those beasts unfortunate enough to be caught pilfering his pies.
Lacota is a largely solitary individual, and always has a cool and aloof air about him, even to those few beasts he considers his friends. Among that select few have been the former Abbot Lorimis, Benar, the current Abbot (the only beast whom he'd consider a "best" friend), Zork, Oz, and Zinnia. He is a widower, his wife Krystal having been murdered by vermin in Mossflower Woods. He had one adoptive daughter, a mouse named Cynthia, whom he doted upon before her death in the Autumn of the Early Snow.
