Chud the Fish Whisperer and other tales ;)
Redwall Abbey Pond
Chud the otter. Leon the mouse. LilyMoore the mouse. Flicktail the fox. Krystal the squirrel.
Chud walks to the pond area, slightly richer after his trip to the market. He settles down on a stone and dips his feet in the water contently.
Leon has been by the pond relaxing, he's kept himself a little too busy past few days and needed a break.
LilyMoore has been thinking about last week's catastrophe on the sibling front, but she can't figure out how to make it better. She comes walking towards the pond in her swimming outfit (unbleached linen leggings and green shirt), staring at the grass under her feet. Glancing up, she spots her father and makes a beeline towards him and goes to wrap her arms around him as high as she can reach.
Chud watches the young mouse reach her father, and idly throws a stone in the water, watching the fish investigate it to see if it's food.
Leon blinks and returns the hug "Hey, what's this all about suddenly?"
Flicktail walks over to see what Chud threw into the pond, standing over Chud idly.
LilyMoore looks up at her father. "Caleb thinks I'm mean, but I just want to play. I don't know what to do." she looks so sorrowful as she says this, like all the joy and life she usually has has been drained out of her.
Leon listens, "Well what happen to make him think that? Maybe you should talk to him, but I wouldnt choose today he is still moody from last night, he cut a couple fingers fairly bad last night, he will be ok but his paw hurts."
"Just a rock, mate," Chud says to Flicktail. "Seein' if we got any fishies. Sunnies maybe."
Flicktail chuckles and nods "well if anyone can find Fish, Chud, it is you...you have a rudder that makes you one o the best swimmer I ever seen"
LilyMoore nods and looks at the ground again. "I pushed him into the water and splashed him. I just wanted to play, and he got mad. He didn't even ask me to stop, he just got mad."
Leon listens carefully and then nods "Well maybe I will talk to him, and you could as well here in a day or so. Brothers and sisters can't stay mad at each other too long, it's not a good thing. I remember arguments with my sister before, but we never stayed mad too long and always forgave each other later on."
Chud grins. "Ayup." A fish floats up near him. "'ello thar," he says happily enough to it.
Flicktail asks, "Wanna go for a swim Chud?"
LilyMoore blinks. "You have a sister? I don't remember you saying that ever. Is she nice? How did you and her make up? It's been a week since I splashed Caleb, and I thought by now he wouldn't be so mad at me." She looks slightly less upset now that she has started talking to her father about what's going on.
Leon frowns a little "Had a sister, she was ...older than me by a couple seasons, and she was nice her name was Ginny, but one time it did take a couple weeks." He smiles and chuckles at a memory, "I was running and bumped into this ladder and the ladder had a couple buckets of paint on it, well they spilled on her and she was all green and purple for 2 weeks"
Chud nods. "Sure." He takes his shirt off and dives sleekly into the water, headed to the bottom of the lake.
Flicktail does a brief swim with the otter before emerging and walking toward Leon and Lillymore
LilyMoore blinks again. "Had...?" she whispers, then says in a louder voice, "Then what happened?" She giggles at the vision of some one being purple and green.
Leon smiles "She refused to talk to me, but she finally did and all was well again."
Flicktail sits down drying his fur out "Ello Leon, Hi Lillymore"
LilyMoore grins. "So maybe I just need to wait a little while longer, and then he'll talk to me?" She looks at the fox. "Hi, Flicky!"
Leon nods and smiles "Yeah, I think you would of liked Ginny...I miss her, but I still remember her very well"
Flicktail smiles to Lillymore "How are you young missy? it is good to see you"
LilyMoore grins at the fox. "I'm okay, thanks! How are you?" Glancing up at her father, she adds, "I'm sorry. I wish she was here." She goes to hug her father again, wanting to help him feel better.
Leon accepts the hug "It was before I came here and...the last time I was in the village I grew up in. A lot happen, but also a good bit of news on that...some problems of the past were forgiven as well, so never stay mad at a family member, no matter what Lilymoore. It can turn into something horrible that can last for seasons, always seek forgiveness from them and also tell them you're sorry"
Flicktail says, "I am always happy to see you Lillymore...if you ever need someone to play with come find me"
LilyMoore smiles up at the Champion. "Thanks! I will definetly think about it." She goes to bury her face in her father's robe front. "I'll keep that in mind, Dad...."
Leon nods "Good." He looks to Flicktail, "So how are you today Flicktail?"
Krystal slowly walks towards the pond on her way out of the orchards, she has been up in the trees alot when she isn't tending to the bees.
Flicktail looks up and smiles "Hullo Krystal"
LilyMoore smiles and goes to hold her father close. She watches the squirrelmaid come towards them but is silent for now.
Leon shakes his head at Flicktail and just pays attention to Lilymoore then.
Krystal stops and waves , "Hi, I was just...walking on past is all its a little hot outside"
Flicktail apologizes "Well Leon, I am ok, though I worry a bit more about Rayen....How is DoraRose these days?' He turns to look at
Krystal "you realize that bees scare me out o' my pelt?" he smiles "your verra brave to work with them"
Leon answers "I don't know how Dorarose is, sorry Flicktail"
LilyMoore goes to rest her head on her father's chest (she's that tall). "Momma's okay, she's just tired of how many beasts are in the Abbey." She watches the squirrel to see how she reacts to the fox's statement.
Krystal blinks "Bees are like us, they can be friends. Maybe you scared them once, who knows and...what is wrong with your mate, did a bee sting her?"
Flicktail says, "they scare ME"
LilyMoore walks over to the squirrel. "So....bees are nice? I've never had anything to do with bees before. I don't know much about them."
Krystal nods "But they don't like sudden movements and you have to move slow, but it is best to stay away from them also, they do sting, but only cause they are scared...we are giants to them, picture yourself just walking around and then a beast 200x your size looks at you or walks by"
Flicktail says, "they LOOK 200 times their size when they be BUZZING at ya"
LilyMoore imagines that scenario. "That would be very scary. I would be afraid, so I guess it makes sense that they would be, too." She looks at the fox, slightly confused. "But.....I thought their buzzing had to with their flight...."
Flicktail says, "I am sure it do...but Stings...well they make me afraid"
Krystal smiles "The buzzing is their wings, it makes a buzzing sound"
LilyMoore stares oddly at the Champion. "Why are you afraid of bee stingers?" She has obviously never been stung by one before.
Flicktail says, "oh it stings pretty good...and then later it itches and itches and they can go get their friends and sting more if ya makes em angry"
Krystal listens and frowns a little, but stays quiet.
LilyMoore looks between the 2 adults, her eyes wide. "Really? Do they really do that?"
Flicktail says, "well they have done it ta me before...but they are not bad folk...as Krystal said...maybe scared"
Krystal says, "Then stay away from the bees then" She says calmly.
LilyMoore frowns, then smiles suddenly. "I know! I'm going to go see if there's a book about bees in the library! I'll talk to y'all later!" and she runs off, waving as she disappears into the orchards.
