Can You say...Mental Breakdown?
- Leon believes his mate dead, he has been laying down in the infirm for two and a half days now doing a lot of just sleeping or stareing at the wall, today he finally gets off the cot and tries to be sane, best he can.***
RW Abbey: Infirmary
Several beds are lined against the red sandstone walls of the Abbey's Infirmary. An examination table, separated from the rest of the room by hanging blankets, rests against the far wall. Tucked into a small alcove is a sizeable workbench with various containers for mixing and preparing medicinal compounds. Against another wall is a desk for use by the Infirmary Keeper. A curtained off alcove behind the desk hides a locked door to the Infirmary's supplies and linens.

Leon is up and doing his duties, but he is not speaking to any beast as he usually does and a couple even frown at the fact he is so very quiet, he is checking supplies right now and marking them off on a list.
In the door walks an otter. He's quite a normal colored otter, being clothed with a well kept leather vest and a pair of pants. Upon noticing Leon, he says, "Good day Leon!" Quite happily.
Leon slowly turns as he looks at the otter and then simply turns back to sort herbs and closes the cupboard doors and frowns, he walks over to a desk and opens a small drawer and pulls out a small key and stares at it as if thinking on what to do with it.
Derean frowns, walking a bit closer. "Uh..Leon? Are you alright?" He asks, his slight nervousness at Leon's reaction already activating his habit of rubbing his scarred wrists without quite thinking about it.
Leon looks at the key as he finally talks, his voice sounds like he has a sore throat, "This..key, it unlocks a small little vault in here..it does. I could..open it and get certain things out, but then.." He chuckles oddly. "Then That be wrong..Wouldn’t it?"
This statement really affects Derean. His eyes widen and he grips his wrist tightly. "Uh...Leon, what are you talking about?" He asks, already starting to fear the worst for the mouse.
Leon frowns, "Oh..no need to worry, maybe." He sighs as if tried "Maybe..I should question someone, over a nice..cup of tea maybe or forget it and have tea..alone.." He closes his paw over the key.
Now Derean is seriously worried, and he takes another step towards Leon, putting a paw on his shoulder. "Leon, maybe we should talk..."
Leon pulls away from the otter, "Just...go. I will solve this, yes I will..will solve" He seems to be having a conflicting issue going on in his mind and tears start to go down his face.
Derean looks almost stricken by this. "Leon, just let me help! I can't do anything if yore pullin' away like that!"
Leon looks away and then slowly back to the otter, "Help?..How, you are not allowed in the vault just I am..just me."
Derean shakes his head, holding out a brawny arm towards Leon. "Please, just tell me wot the vault is and I can help..."
Leon blinks, "It’s..in here..wait no." He acts like he is in a trace and shakes his head as if to clear it, "No..cause that’s wrong, but then what she did or maybe didn’t do is wrong, but she had to of or someone else did. "He opens his paw to look at the key.
Derean looks quite confused at this. "Leon, yore speakin' gibberish t' me. I need you t' speak clearly."
Leon stares at the key, "Clearer..ok clear is..is good. She is dead..the cat did it" Well he believes this right now, "It’s the cat's fault..yes it is, and this key is a key to her undoing, it is, a locked little place rarely opened..see, why are they here, I don't know..in rare cases a tiny drop oddly helps things but maybe two drops or more...yeah with tea." Ok maybe he has lost it. "Tea..for the cat..or" He lets tears fall now.."Or me..or both"
Derean remains silent for a few moments, touched by what he was hearing. He had certainly heard about the recent kidnappings, and their connections to the different residents, but he was pretty sure he knew who Leon was talking about, both the cat and the one referred to as 'she'. "L-Leon...a tiny drop of wot helps things, and where is the locked place?"
Leon answers, "Rare cases...used as a way to relax serious muscle tension, but only the tiniest of a drop and only in very serious case but never used it as was afraid...but more drops of it, yes is deadly. Its Nightshade..a poisonous herb, there are other poisons too...not here, but in the..woods, meadow..I know what they look like, I do..I" He holds the key tightly again and shivers some. He then slowly puts the key back and closes the drawer and lays his head on the desk, first silent tears and then starts sobbing, at first softly and then louder.
Derean instantly places a paw around Leon's shoulders, slightly bent as he does so and /very/ unsure of what to do about all of this. "Leon, wot are you saying?" He asks, trying hard to ignore the staring creatures around them.
Leon is still sobbing and shivers some, he can't seem to talk right now, it's a little while later when he finally does, maybe 5 minutes and one of the novices is smart enough to have the small crowd leave, and the couple beasts here for healing needs are just moves to the other room, simple things a cold and a guard with a broken foot paw so the otter and mouse are alone. "I..I..mind was clouded..wanted to kill the cat, that Safana..poison her, but I shouldn't have thoughts like..like this..then well..what of me..use poison in a drink..for me, I can't..I can't go on without..Safana said she died, she probably ki..killed her..gone"
Derean nods slowly, grateful that he can now understand the rambling coming from the mouse. "Killed who?" He asks. "Who did Safana kill?"
Leon sniffs as he answers, it's what he truly believes till he sees with his own eyes it’s not true, "Couple weeks ago...Cera died, just seemed sudden, no clue why and couldn’t help her, I got over it but almost lost another beast from here...cause was afraid he'd die and be my fault, but he is ok, things were good...then" He seems unable to say the next words." Safana..said some..just band vermin killed...but Safana probably killed her..killed my...she's dead."
Derean sighs as he listens to the possibly deranged mouse, but he pats the mouse's head gently. "Leon, who did she kill?" He asks once again.
Leon lets out a small sort of whimper.."Dorarose.."
Derean nods, his suspicion having been confirmed. "Right..w-well I don't quite know wot t' say, but you have t' be strong right now...t' keep other beasts from dyin'. Isn't that wot she would want?"
Leon frowns, "The..cat..had to of hid body.." He blinks a few times and frowns “Help the others. But what if I fail, I...what of Caleb and Lilymoore, what do I..say to them?"
Derean hesitates for a moment before responding. "Tell them...tell them their mother is sleeping. They're too young t' understand such things, and as for helping the others, I don't think Flicktail would've told me yore the best healer here if you hadn't proved it already."
Leon nods "I..I am, I have a lot of healing knowledge, can do surgery when needed..I know a lot"
Derean spreads his arms, smiling. "Well then you should carry on doin' wot yore good at, because I know if Dorarose were here, she'd agree with me. Trust me, I know a thing or two about loosin' loved ones Leon, but we can't dally in the past when others in the present need us, or at least, need you."
Leon frowns, it's clear he is still not totally mentally stable right now, but he is a little better. He nods slowly.
Derean tries to look Leon straight in the eyes. "Leon, listen to me. I know loosin' Cera and Dorarose took a toll on you, but you've got t' be strong and keep going. I promise it's not impossible. I remember doin' it myself when..." He stops for a moment before finishing, "...when my brother died..."
Leon frowns, "Loseing a..a sibling is little different, I lost a sister once, while back, my own father made it out as if was my fault, we have since seen one another and forgiveness was given, my father is who knows where now on some boat."
Derean shakes his head. "T' me, loosin' a siblin' is like loosin' a limb, but the point is I understand wot it's like t' loose someone you love, and I'm tellin' you, sittin' around thinking about wot you could've done and wot you didn't do won't do a thing!"
Leon frowns, tears stream down his face, "I..think it’s worse losing a mate...just my thoughts"
Derean nods in understanding. "Well maybe it is, but I wouldn't know. Look, Leon, yore missin' me point! I'm tryin' t' tell you that the beasts in this abbey need you, and you can't help them by mourning day in an' day out fer yer mate. I'm sorry it happened Leon, I really am, but life won't let us just sit back and take a break, as much as we may want to."
Leon frowns deeper, "I..maybe could still, have a little chat with Safana." He sighs and wipes away some tears, "Or..not a chat, I..I don’t know, but yes infirm needs me, just in case"
Derean nods. "Exactly. You need to be strong fer the patients, but Safana was captured just recently, so I don't think you'll be talkin' t' her anytime soon."
Leon nods slowly, he is still not himself today, maybe he won’t be for a long while, "Well...she wouldn’t have to..say anything.." He still seems a little, out of it as he whispers "Just have a cup of..tea"
Derean shakes his head, frowning. "Leon, you said yourself that you shouldn't have those thoughts, now get it out of yer mind."
Leon looks at the floor and back at the otter, "Then..it be best to not let me ever..EVER go have a chat with her, right now it wouldn’t end well..for her"
Derean shakes his head. "I'll make sure that doesn't happen, and I'll come check on you now and again. How is that?"
Leon nods slowly "Ok..that’s fine" He frowns, yes certain thoughts are still there, poison the cat, he takes a deep breath and then exhales slowly.
Derean smiles, patting Leon's shoulder. "Good. Remember, I just want to help you Leon."
Leon nods slowly, "I..I know I just, going to take time to get over all this"
Derean shrugs. "I understand, and that makes sense, but I'll be here with you t' help you through it."
Leon still has a couple tears, "Yeah..I..I feel somewhat better and.." He stands a little shaky.."Not going to use the poison, it will stay locked up and not..going to look for any,sides..all the snow would of killed it off"
Derean smiles warmly, giving the mouse a hug. "I'm glad t' hear that Leon. Now just try t' go about yer business normally. Socialize an' talk t' other beasts. I find bein' in the company of others helpful."
Leon nods slowly "I will..tend to the infirm and help keep it in order, doesn’t mean I will talk much"
Derean shrugs. "Alright, well I'm glad you'll be doin' something."
Leon looks around the room, a slight look at the desk as he then sorts some papers on it and looks it over, the cupboards over and back to the otter, “Infirm is still well stocked, herbs and bandages and things."
Derean crosses his arms, nodding approvingly. "That's good, and are the patients in need of attention right now?" He asks. Derean knew he wasn't really an expert on these things, but he was certainly trying to think of things a healer would need to think of.
Leon shakes his head, "Its ok right now, a guard broke their foot the other night falling down the wall tops steps cause he was running, and a novice has a cold, nothing serious as was caught early and they will be fine in couple days."
Derean breathes a sigh of relief. Honestly, he wasn't quite sure how well Leon would be able to work under his current condition. "Good, and is there anythin' else you would need t' attend to?"
Leon thinks and shakes his head, "Not right now..Zork isn’t in the infirm anymore..he should be but it’s..ok" He sighs, maybe worried, maybe not “He just has to remember to have wounds checked, make sure healing ok and no infection..infection would be bad"
Derean nods. "Infection would be bad, aye. So if that's all, mayhap you should take a break fer a while."
Leon frowns, "I..sure why not, I need a break and something to eat not ate in.." He frowns and the truth comes out, "Couple days, just like some water couple times"
Derean's eyes widen. "Oh stars, we need t' get you somethin' now!" He exclaims, moving to Leon and putting a guiding arm around his shoulders. "That's not healthy Leon! You of all creatures should know that!"
Leon frowns "I know, I know just not been in the best of moods, let’s go to Cavern Hole"
RW Abbey: Cavern Hole
This room is slightly smaller than Great Hall, but still of a size large enough to accomodate a great number of gathered beasts. A large fireplace is set into one of the walls, and there are a series of small tables and chairs near one end for beasts who are eating late, or simply prefer the smaller tables for their meals. Cushions and blankets have been set in one corner. A short flight of steps leads up to Great Hall, and along the walls of the stairs, going both ways, the word 'Redwall' has been carved into the stone.

Derean nods, leading Leon out of the infirmary and down the stairs towards Cavern Hole. "Right, we just need you t' eat /somethin'/." By this point, the otter sounds almost fearful for Leon, though he doesn't quite know the mouse yet.
Leon allows the help, it's clear some of his energy is very low, he sits in a chair in the Cavern Hole and looks around the room, "Yeah something, what is there?"
Derean shakes his head, looking around. "Just...just stay here fer a moment, alright?" With that, he sprints off in the direction of the kitchen.
Leon does stay in the chair, even if he wanted to get up and leave he probably pass out and fall over if he walked too far.
After a few minutes, Derean comes running back, carefully holding a plate of pancakes. He sits it in front of Leon hurriedly. "Please eat Leon," He says, sitting next to the mouse.
Leon looks at the pancakes and then does start to eat them, it’s a few bites here and there, it's as if at first he doesn’t want to eat and then he does eat some more, quiet the whole time he eats.
Derean watches Leon intently, making sure the mouse eats every bit of the food. Despite not knowing the mouse very well, he was still concerned despite the otter's...profession of not quite being concerned with life, though that didn't quite extend to innocent woodlanders, especially those who had been so nice to him when he had first arrived at the abbey.
Leon does eat the pancakes and some water also to drink, he looks at the otter now.
Derean looks almost expectant, thinking the mouse wanted to say something. "Yes Leon?" He asks.
Leon is quiet then finally, "I..should probably eat a little more, maybe some cordial also"
Derean nods, standing up. "I can get you some more," He suggests.
Leon says, "Yeah, good idea"
With that response, Derean jogs off towards the kitchen yet again in search of more food and some cordial.
Leon waits in the Cavern Hole, well least he is eating now, he still looks depressed and tried, but least he is eating.
Eventually, Derean comes back in carrying another plate of pancakes, which seems to be what is being served. However, he also carries a bottle of strawberry cordial in his other paw. Walking over to Leon, he places the plate down next to the existing one along with the bottle. "Here, try not to eat too fast."
Leon nods "I know.." He eats slowly, coughing once and eats a little more, a sip of cordial and back to eating the pancakes slowly, he is quiet as he does so.
Derean puts his head on the table, relieved that he had been able to help Leon in some way.
Leon finishes the pancakes and sips the cordial slowly and coughs a little, "Umm..thanks." It’s all he says and it's clear he is not himself today.
Derean sighs, his voice slightly muffled. "Just doin' wot I can Leon. I can't have the healer completely incapacitated can I?"
Leon doesn’t say more, luckly this room isn’t busy right now, every so often a sip of cordial as he sits there with a sort of far off look.
Derean lifts his head back up, looking over at Leon. "Is there anythin' else I can do?"
Leon shakes his head, a sip of cordial and he just sits there, not talking or doing much.
Derean nods slowly, turning his attention back to the table. "At least yore eatin'.." He says, half to himself.
Leon nods to this, yeah seems he has gone quiet for now, he ate the two plates of pancakes and drank some water and now cordial.
Lacota hurries in from the kitchen and directs the novice cooks to start clearing away the dirty breakfast dishes
Derean looks up at the entrance of the squirrel, smiling and waving despite what had happened the previous day to cause a bit of...tension, at least for him. "Lacota, 'ello there!"
Lacota smiles and waves. He tells the novices to clean up. He acts like the Abbey Friar in all but title. Finally he takes a seat near Derean. "Good morning, Der." He doesn’t know Leon well enough, yet. "So I'm just using the kitchen, ya know..."
Leon sighs, a couple tears go down his face and it’s unclear if he hears anyone in the room or not.
Derean sighs, looking over at Leon, then back to Lacota. "I'm tryin' t' help Leon. He's been havin'....a rough time recently."
Lacota ahhs. "I see..." He looks to the mouse, whom he doesn't know well, "I am sorry ta hear that, sir."
Leon doesn't answer, he folds his paws on the table, lays his head down and drifts into sleep, its probably needed.
