Aclidian Laws
Across the breadth of the Aclidian Empire, the laws of Aclidia are a standard by which every Aclidian is expected to abide. Adhering to seemingly natural principles, this collection of laws and decrees is a form by which every citizen, regardless of rank of status, can expect to be judged and sentenced by. That was the theory, at least. The everyday realities of Aclidian life often leave these laws open to interpretation.
In the city’s poorer districts, namely the Harbor and Domicile Road, crime has become a regular fact of life, and Legion patrols to help keep the peace are far and few between. In stark contrast, Aclidia’s more affluent districts are regularly patrolled and relatively peaceful.
Standards by which beasts are judged are as equally ambiguous. Those who hold positions of influence within Aclidia are often handed hefty fines before being sent along their way. On the other hand, the ordinary citizen can expect far worse from the Aclidian courts. Beasts convicted of minor crimes, such as left or assault, are often imprisoned for a length of time that is proportionate to their crimes. Serious crimes, including treason and murder, are often punishable by death, or, if the convicted beast is fortunate, a life in slavery.
The IC laws of Aclidia are as follows:
No beast shall commit treason against the Aclidian Empire. This, the gravest of all crimes, demands death as punishment.
No Aclidian shall kill another Aclidia, or any-beast who is a friend of the Empire.
Theft of another Aclidian's property, or the property of a friend of the Empire, is forbidden
No Aclidian shall free slaves belonging to any other than themselves. Slaves are the property of their owner; this is akin to theft.
No Aclidian shall deface the name of the Emperor, nor the honor of the Empire.
No Aclidian, regardless of wealth or station, shall avoid service to the Empire when called to fight in her defense.
(OOC Note: It is important to note that the majority of these laws go unreported and unpunished in Aclidia, particularly those dealing with theft and the name of the Emperor.)
