Aclidia blues part 5
Albus the fox heads to the hearth for his dinner only to be waylaid by two familiar beasts, Korudon the Ferret and Galyn the stoat. Can he throw them off Sibyl's trail?
Inside The Hearth, there are many beasts either milling around conversing, or sitting at tables and conversing. Waiters scurry all over the place, bringing food to the different patrons. Among those patrons is a lone arctic fox, who seems to be quite distant, save for when he nods his thanks as a plate of food and a mug of ale is brought to him. The fox leans forward in his chair and sighs. What a mess he's gotten himself in....
The door to a private room opens and a tall grey ferret comes striding out. He pats lightly at his fleshy stomach. A few other beasts come out of the room behind Korudon, one of which is Galyn. The skinny stoat is the first to notice the assassin for higher and nudges his friend in the side. Kor hisses at Galyn before he realizes Albus is here. Waving goodbye to the other beasts, a cat, fox and a squirrel the ferret begins walking toward the white furred fox, placing a paw on the back of his chair and leaning his head over Albus's shoulder, "Evenin mate, fancy meetin you here. A victory meal I presume, in celebration of a successful hunt?"
Albus pauses, having just been about to start eating. "Aye, that it is," He says without hesitation, smiling. "I didn't have much trouble killing Sibyl. You know, she had gotten quite slow with all that weight she had put on." He gives a light chuckle. "I suppose that's somebeast elses problem now."
The ferret looks around before the tavern for the beasts he was eating with before giving the fox a wide toothed smile. He sits down in the chair next to him and spins it so its resting against his belly, "Really? She's dead?" He claps his paws together, "Sounds like sibyl, always told her all that food would be the death of her some day. Now tell me, and don't spare me the gory details. How did you pull it off?" Galyn is standing nearby, looking nervously at the beasts around the inn, "Kor...not so loud." The ferret waves his concerns off then looks at the fox like a dibbun about to unwrap a pressent.
Albus laughs lightly, crossing his arms as he appears to think about it. "I do recall that I used her trust of me to my advantage. I told her I had to talk to her about something in private. When we got to an alley, I told her, 'Maffeo has a message for you.' In a sort of innocent tone." He laughs again, as though the false memory entertained him. "She had no idea what was coming! She asked, 'Well what is it?' And I promptly pulled my dagger and stabbed her straight in her plump stomach. Dear me, she looked so shocked before I pulled my dagger out and stabbed her again in the chest, though in an upwards motion to get to her heart, and well..." He shrugs. "...you can likely envision the rest."
Galyn looks like he is going to be sick. Korudon looks disturbingly giddy, "Capital! Just capital." The ferret's chittery laughter begins to fade as he asks, "I of course believe the word of a fellow blade for hire but Maffeo well he, he is a stickler for rules and regulations. He won't sleep well unless he sees Sibyl's ring on his desk."
Albus shrugs. "I looked for the ring you described. She didn't have it at all, and I've thought about it for a while and I feel as though she may have had reason to believe someone would come for her, though why that would make her hide her ring is beyond me." For the moment, Albus' lying skills will have to serve him faithfully as they always have, though there was a bit more on the line here, and he couldn't just say he didn't know where the lizard had gone, which, in truth, he didn't.
The ferret continues to smile pleasantly all the while his eyes narrow murderously at the fox, "Well you see...that's going to be a bit of a problem. You'll understand if I can't pay you with out any proof you did the deed."
Albus puts on a polite smile for the ferret as he replies, "I'm not sure what else to tell you mate. I could take you to the site, though I could only take you two so as not to look too suspicious. I hid the body in the alley in a place nobeast would look."
The ferret seems to consider this for a moment. "Galyin, why don't you follow our fine furry friend here. I have a job to finish up soon myself." The stoat looks wide eyed and horrified at the thought of being left alone with this fox. "B-but Kor you ..." The stoats stammering is cut off as Kor pats him on the shoulder, "Fine it's settled. Galyin will keep you company until I get back." The ferret takes his leave and proceeds to walk to the exit without so much as a second glance, leaving the obviously nervous stoat with the assassin.
Albus gives the stoat a quite obviously smug look, a small grin on his face as he eyes Galyin the way a hunter would his prey. "Yes...I do suppose you'll make lovely company..."
