A short chat in the Abbot's Quarters

RW Abbey: Abbot's Chambers

These are the rooms of Abbot Benar, They consist of a couple of rooms.

The largest room by far is the private sitting room. Tall windows look

out over the Gardens's of the abbey and beyond the Open Ground between

the cloister and the walls. It is a comfortable well lived in room with

chairs and tables, work desks, ornaments and books. A set of three

large armchairs are set up before the fire-place and there are

several large bookcases filled with tomes about the abbey and its

craft works.

Through a small door is Benar's bedroom, it is filled with antique

furniture and fittings and wood panels attached to the walls hide

the stone of the abbey. The single window is flanked by drapes of

thick velvet and though it appears like a rich room at first glance

it is quite simple otherwise. The bed is a single, functional frame

of wood with blankets and pillows and there is a small portrait of

Benar's mother Amarro as the only personal decoration in the room.

Leon walks towards the abbot's door and then knocks on it before stepping back and waiting on a reply.

Benar was dozing in his chair, feet up before the fire and listening to the rain outside. When Leon knocks he looks up and calls out, "Come in,"

Leon enters the abbot's room after hearing the come in part and stays by the doorway after he enters "I was checking to see if you were doing ok."

Benar smiles at Leon and waves a paw, "Hello Leon, staying inside in the warm today too I hope?"

Leon nods "Mostly, it is starting to be colder now. I will have to remember to take something warm on the trip next week, well towards the end of next week anyways."
Benar says, "Yes wrap up warm... did you hear about what happened under the south wall? In the ruins?"
Leon nods "Yes, I heard and I know Dora went there. I can't say I wasn’t worried about her, I was."
Benar says, "Well I am glad everyone came for us, but I learnt some disturbing things. The Under-King... he is still down there... his army is massive! We've collapsed what tunnels we can and set a guard but... I fear this will end badly."
Leon frowns, "Any idea how they got under there in the first place?"
Benar says, "No idea I am afraid but the old histories say that to flood the valley Martin and the Mossflower resistance dug a tunnel from the River to the lowest basement of Kotir. I fear they gained entrance out in the woods somehow."
Leon hmms, "Maybe something can be found in the old records, I wonder what they want and how long they have been there, it has to of been fairly long you would think, or maybe not as long as we think even. Maybe we can find the other entry point maybe, it could be worth a try"
Benar says, "Zinnia is having a look now, but the information is in some of the oldest records the Abbey has. They are all scrolls and parchment, so she is taking her time to make sure she doesn't harm anything." He sighs and leans his head back, "I think we are safe for now but the Marten down there will not wait forever."

Leon nods slowly "I hope nothing happens while me, Dora and Zinnia are away. I wonder if this is something to add to the list of whatever your sending with us to tell Salamandastron or not?" He sighs "And I hope things can be calm and peaceful for a while, the feast is next week after all, as is the trip "

Benar says, "I have already included all the information I can in the letter to the Badger Lord at Salamandastron, I am sure we will all be fine, your mission is important."
Leon nods "I know and I hope for safe travels. Zinnia has...well sort of gave some info, and wrote down some things to avoid or a couple ideas on better paths and such, you do know she has rarely talked since.." He frowns remembering the day well.
Benar says, "Zinnia is... still grieving, deeply for the loss of Zork, we all are... but Martin is watching us, your journey and what is happening here are all connected"
Leon says, "Maybe me and Dora can get her talking, I don't know. We can try and if she doesn't talk much well, guess that’s ok too."
Benar says, "I hope so, I am hoping this trip with you two will help her come out of her feeling"
Leon nods, " Maybe getting out will help, we are to be away till spring. Should be interesting by the sea coast in winter, never been near any coasts in winter"
Benar says, "I think the trip and seeing the coast will help, I am also hoping the mountain will lift her spirits as well. It is quite a beautiful place. I remember it from when I was little."
Leon says, "You went once also, I hope she at least speaks to the badger lord, not just hands him the letters"

Benar says, "I am sure he will expect her to speak to him, she is my Ambassador after all, the letters name her as such."

Leon says, "Guess we will see how things go. I am still thinking on what Martin said the one day in the gatehouse. I mean we must get there safe as he said healer and warrior guild her there. That was part of it anyways, I have it written down somewhere"
Benar leans back and stares into his fire, "Martin always works in mysterious ways, his messages have little meaning at first but if we listen and think they will make sense to us"
Leon says, "One part is confusing..Final frontier..sounds..almost like it’s something bad, but maybe it’s not and it’s something helpful"
Benar shakes his head, "I am afraid I cannot shed any light on that Leon, all I can hope is that as you approach the Mountain his words will become clearer to you"
Leon says, "Well, that’s true. Also we may be greeted by some hares as heard they can see a good distance on the shores at least" He then remembers, "Oh..I do have some good news, then probably heard about Rayen and Flicktail’s daughter by now."
Benar says, "Indeed I am sure they will meet you on the shore and that is good news indeed."
Leon smiles " Should be interesting , and maybe once in a while. Well if have time, we can visit some village that supposed to be close"

Benar says, "I hope you have a great trip and Zinnia wakes up Leon," He grips your hand and smiles, "I am sure it will be educational for you all. But keep DoraRose safe ok? If you run into vermin talk first ,do not race into battle."

Leon nods "I have found lately I..seem to be able to talk sometimes fairly well, I hope to avoid any vermin if we can and if we can't....then fighting should be a last resort. I know little on fighting, some on using a slingshot and no idea if Zinnia knows any fighting at all"

Benar exclaims, "Then you are the best we can hope to send all three of you have been chosen by Martin so I believe you will be perfectly safe Leon!""

Leon nods "I will try my best and we can try and send a letter back to let them here know we got there ok"

Benar says, "Do not worry about that Leon, I have faith martin will let me know you have arrived safely." He looks at the fire, "Now I should go downstairs and see Sister Dorothy, speak later ok? Join me for dinner"

Leon nods "Will do, I think I will check on a couple beasts in the infirm, see you at Dinner Benar" He lets the abbot go first and then he heads out himself.
