A lone DAB member strikes! 0r Talk of the Warrior
Redwall Abbey, Great Hall
With: Feather- hopping mouse. Benar- squirrel. Oz, Zork- Badgers. Leon- mouse
This goes on for awhile after I had to leave- but I figured I'd include it all, anyway. ;) Enjoy!
Leon is sitting in a chair looking over a list he has made and seems to be double checking it carefully.
Benar walks down the stairs frowning at a sheaf of papers and humming to himself as he goes,
Feather bangs open the door of Great Hall and slides in, dripping slush. She giggles evilly as she sees the creatures in the hall- the perfect opportunity for trouble! She scoops up some slush from her outfit and watches as it slides down her arm and lands on the floor with a sucking, wet gross noise. She kicks a footpaw in it, chuckles, and scoops it up again, walking further into the room, the water dripping from her paws.
Leon looks up and waves "Hello Benar, I was just looking over the supply list for the infirm, see what we are low on and what we are ok on and I could go get what we need"
Benar asks, "Ok Leon, are we missing anything in particular that will be tricky to find? It looks like Spring is going to be late this year with all this new snow we are having." he watches the young mouse and shakes his head as she runs around."
Feather takes her time walking, or more like sliding, over to the adults. At one point she trips over her dress hem, but she manages to catch her balance before she hits the ground. Her heels kick up water as she pads over the red stones. Perfect distance. She stops and hurls the slush ball, though her aim is not good, at the chair Leon is sitting in. She claps her paws gleefully.
Leon blinks, "New snow? I had thought of going out to look along the river maybe for somme herbs, we will be ok on some as dont always use others, so good supply, we do need some willowbark but thats easy enough to get and maybe some comfery"
Benar moves over and picks Feather up, hefting her in one hand and shaking her dress to get the slush out, "What have you been up too little one?" He nods to Leon, "Well take some guards with you."
Feather huffs as the slush misses it's mark. Squealing as she gets picked up, the hopping mouse kicks her legs and struggles wildly to get down. She leans over Benar's arm, reaching her own arms out in an effort to grab a chair. "I was playin'! Now put me down!"
Leon watches the dibbun fially seeing her now and blinks, "Guessing a dibbun seaked away from Oz or something and yes I can take someone with me, don't worry"
Benar says, "So i see little one, but throwing snow inside is not nice. Now someone has to clean the floors again." he sets her down gently."
Feather shakes her head at Leon. "No, didn't 'scape. Never was with 'im in th' firs' place." She stops her wriggling as the squirrel places her back on the floor. She turns to face Benar and wrinkles her nose at him, tail flicking heavily behind her, weighted from the water. "They always need cleanin'. Th' floors I mean. An' I miss'd, an'way."
Benar shakes his head and crouches down in front of Feather, "Yes you missed Leon but look at that trail of water all over the floor." He points at it, "Now someone has to clean the floor now instead of tomorrow morning as it is dangerous."
Feather watches the squirrel Elder as he bends down to her level, twisting around without moving her footpaws so she can see where Benar is pointing. She opens her mouth a few times, thinking of something to say, and she settles on, "Um. Ya...But we c'n play in it! S'fun t' slide on water!" She grins, shuffling her paws. Excpet she can't do it well anymore, because Benar shook most of the slush from her...She frowns and pouts.
Benar says, "No we can't if you did that you'd slide into the door or the wall or... heavens forbid right down that," he points at the large staircase to cavern hole. "That would not be comfortable.""
Feather shrugs off the pout and puts her paws on her hips looking at the trial of water with a tilted head. She looks at Benar from the corner of her eye, wanting to know if he's excpeting her next move. Maybe, maybe not. But suddenly she takes off, running, tail waving behind her, and sliding a fair distance down the improvised water trail of danger. She comes to a halt when she falls and lands on her behind, narrowly avoiding crashing into a novice passing by. She tries to stand up, fails, and falls again. She lies in the water laughing hard, paws resting on her stomach. "See?" She calls out. "Fun!"
Benar sighs soiftly and wanders over to Feather, "So i see... it is still dangerous fun though little one. You need to be more careful you almost hit Novice George"
Feather sits up, forepaws resting on the floor between her footpaws. "That's George?" She wonders. "S'rry Georgey!" She calls loudly as he blushes, walking away up the stairs. Feather curls her tail and chews on a claw distractedly. What other irritating things can she do? She stands carefully and slowly, so she doesn't fall again, and steps out of the wet trail she created. She looks around, thinking.
Benar says, "Now then little one I think its time I took you back to the other dibbuns""
Feather aws louldy, then stands up straight as an idea occurs to her. She runs off, weaving between the chairs, dodging creatures doing their daily tasks. She pauses, looking back to see if Benar will chase her.
Benar isn't chasing her, he just has his arms folded inside his sleeves and is frowning at the dibbun, "Feather come back here or no dessert this evening."
Rowan wakes up as he feels a small dibbun step on his rudder. Groaning slightly from his recent wounds he looks at the blanket and pillow about him. Jo really was a thoughtfull friend if he kept doing this for him.
Well, there's a new development. And an unwelcome one, at that. Feather skids to a halt just past the sleeping otter. Really?! She ran right past him?! And now she doesn't get any dessert if she plays a very DABish prank on him...Humph. Benar is no fun- at least some of the novices chase her all over the abbey. That's fun for the little hopping mouse. She turns and croses her ams in a tantrum, stamping a footpaw down on the ground. "Whyyyy?" She whines.
Benar strolls over slowly, gliding is mroe like it with dignity as he looks down, "Because you just ran right over Rowan's tail, say sorry and I may forgive you."
Rowan looks about slightly bleary eyed before rubbing his eyes. "Morning Benar, sorry for falling asleep again in here, these injuries are just tiring with all the travel and such."
Feather sighs and lets her arms hang loose. She mumbles to the gruond. "S'rry Rowan." SHe really doesn't want to lose dessert- that's her favorite part of dinner. (Like any dibbun.) The mention of travel gets her attention. She reaches up to pull gently on the blanket in the otter's lap. "You travel!? C'n I come! Where d' ya go?"
Zork walks inn slowly, he quickly scans the room as if looking for someone and then whisels as he comes the rest of the way inside the room.
Benar shakes his head, "It is quite alright Rowan and no Feather, no one is leaving the abbey yet, not dibbuns anyway. But as soon as we get some nice weather I'll talk to Oz about arranging a trip out."
Rowan nods his head to the small dibbun "It's aright mate, I do alot of travel between hear and north of Ferravale, I'm a ranger and it's a dangerous job." He nods his head at Zork as he walks into the room before turnign to Benar "I could act like a gaurd of sorts to help Oz out."
Zork looks around for a place to sit and choices the floor by the wall as he listens to the others, "Word of advice, don't sit in THAT chair." He points to the badger size chair, "a staff hit me head this morning, it hurt" It was not hard and he knows it but he likes to thik it was, he even rubs his head, "Messed up me headfur some too.."
Feather doesn't notice Zork, not yet anywho. She dances in a little happy circle. "Yay! A trip!" She takes a fistful of Benar's elder habit and looks up at him. "C'n I have dessert t'day?" Without waiting for an answer, she goes back to tug on the blanket again. "Will ya come? It'll be fun!" Without releaseing the blanket, she turns her head to she can see Benar, and she grins. "I like Row'n. C'n he come? Pleeeese?"
Benar shakes his head and smiles "YOu can have dessert but no more mischief today or I will tell Oz no dessert for you ok?" he then smiles "Thank you Rowan, that would be helpful but we have to wait for this bad weather to clear up."
Rowan nods his head at Benar as he gives a light chuckle at the hyperactive dibbun. Still sore he props himself up against the wall and unclasps his cloak. Shouldn't be a problem as long as no one see's his back.
Zork yawns large as he stays seated, "So..ay new news...old news ta be heard?"
Feather claps her paws together happily. "ok!" She can't promise no more misheif ever, but she can certainly refrain until dinner. But after dinner she is obligated as a member of DAB to run from bathtime. No need to mention that, though. She seats herself on the floor, sitting in the water that still drips from her. She stretches her dress, uncomfortable with the way it's drying. She leans her head against the chair Rowan sits in, listening for news.
Benar says, "Not really Zork, nothiong from me anyway" he watches Feather and shakles his head, "Now not too rough, Rowan is still ill.""
Rowan looks over at Benar and waves a paw. "I'm not ill just injured, I be ill if they kept me in." He pats the small dibbun on the head lightly. "The weasel who was killing is no more, Benar."
Zork is curious of this, "There was a weasel causeing trouble, what did he do, who did he kill?"
Feather curls up, drawing her knees up to her chest and wrapping her arms about them. At least it's warm inside. She smiles as her head gets pat, and she resits getting up to run about. She only needs to be quiet until dinner- then she can misbehave all she wants. Though it's clear she's trying very hard to remain obediant.
Benar sighs sadly and inclines his head, "May his soul rest peaceful in the hereafter and may he find some peace for the troubles that plagued him on this side of the gates."
Rowan sighs as he looks at zork "In Ferravale, his name was Moric, tried to kill Astra, Scioto and myself, possible killed some beasts I was ordered to put him out of his misery." He gives a sollemn nod to what Benar says.
Oz walks in with his walking staff and gors to sit down in his chair,he nods to those here as he sits down.
Feather does happen to notice Oz, and she looks to Benar, wondering if the squirrel is going to tell of her recent rule-break. She sits up on her heels, ready to run if need be.
Zork nods, he watches Oz enter and grins, he goes to try and get behind his chair and grin reaching up a paw to ruffle up his headfur trying to hold back a laugh as he does so.
Rowan moves back in the chair again as he considers putting his cloak back on. He didn't want to scare the dibbun away with old scars.
Benar returns from his conversation with a Novice and moves over to a chair, "Sorry about that Rowan."
Rowan nods his head as he tugs up his cloak slightly "It's alright Benar, you are a busy beast."
Oz eeeks as his headfur is messed up and looks straight up at Zork with a small glare, "Move please..."
Zork grins, he does move but most likely to avoid a swat, "Hee hee...ohh come on ya no fun sometimes Ozzy"
Benar says, "Zork..." he glances over at the badgers, "Do please try and set an example for the young ones.""
Rowan chuckles lightly at the two brothers before turning his attention to Benar. "Do you know anything about scars?"
Zork frowns, "Ohhhh, your no funn either, I can be serious..when needed." He grins and after makig sure there is a clear path does cartwheel over to the doorway and bows,"But I must go now, chat later" He waves and heads off.
Oz shakes his head at Zork and sighs, he glaces over at Rowan as the otter talks.
Benar asks, "MNe? I am afraid not Rowan, I am not much of a healer for that you want Brother Leon.""
Rowan nods his head slightly "It's probably better to keep them anyways, not for others to see but just to remind me."
Oz listens as they talk, "Not all scars can clear up, some maybe with time"
Benar says, "I am afraid I do not know much about injuries and such... I would ask Brothe rLeon he will know more then I.""
Rowan looks over at Oz with a gentle shrug "I don't think these be the scars that will ever clear up, they haven't yet at least."
Oz nods "I have one on my knee, it was from a dagger that went all the way to the bone and it didnt heal well, brothers me in cold wheather and if I walk too long"
Benar says, "I've not ever been stabbed or cut my anyone myself... I guess I am luck that way""
Rowan shakes his head at their comments. "No, it wasn't something recent, nor was it from any blade. More of the sort from a whip from my well you know."
Oz lets the two talk as a couple dibbuns climmb into his lap, he smiles.
Benar says, "Ah well in time I believe Scars do tend to fade Rowan.""
Rowan says, "I suppose they might but I still don't plan on showing my back to anybeast any time soon"
Oz gets a book he sometimes reads to the dibbuns, he moves it sligtly away and a little closer and sighs laying it aside,he smiles as he know most of the stoires anyways starting to tell it to the dibbus quietly.
Benar chuckles softly and nods his head "That seems fair enough Roawn, well nwo I shall leave you two to carry on talking I need to go speak to the friar."
Rowan bows his head respectfully as he begins to listen to the badger's story.
Oz waves to Benar as he heads off, he finishs the story and lets the two run off, he sighs then, "I need to start remembering to wear my glasses when I read"
Rowan tilts his head slightly "Glasses? what are those? Why would you need them for a book?"
Oz says, "Glasses helps you see better, the words are sometimes blurry when I read, unless hold the book a certain way as read, not many wear them, some do...the abbot has glasses"
Rowan nods his head in understanding "I had been wondering what those were, I think I saw the library beast wearing a pair too."
Oz smiles "Probally, I tend to not wear them, its rare I do and I know most of the Martin stories by heart, now if its a list or a letter, yes on go the glasses"
Rowan says, "I can understand that, I don't know any stories"
Oz asks, "No beast ever told any or you never overheard one?"
Rowan shrugs lightly "I know somewhat about martin and Jo was telling me a story about an otter last night but I fell asleep during it."
Oz nods, "Martin is a guilding sprite here, its rare to see him"
Rowan says, "So I have heard, I could see right through him when I saw him, he looked kind and strong."
Oz says, "never heard him to not be kind, unless he was warning a vermin maybe"
Rowan nods as he stays quiet a moment before speaking up. "What was his story before he became all ghosty like?"
Oz says, "He helped to build the abbey, before that he lived on the nortern sea coast at a place kow as Lukes caves"
Rowan tilts his head a moment "Nothing more is known past that? He just lived in Luke's caves and suddenly came out? There has to be something else."
Oz says, "There is more to it, see his father was Luke, they went there thiking they would escape vermin hordes, saddly they didt, his family and friends were attcked, he and his gradma survived, as did is fater and few others, his mother died and his father went after the horde leader and that was the last he seen of his father, but before he left he told Martin to always protect the weak and defend the helpless...and there is still more from there""
Rowan listens with his eyes occasionally glancing up at the tapestry as he listens. "Do you think you could tell me a bit more mate? That is unless your tired."
Oz smiles, "A band of slavers ended up captureing him one day while he was on the shoreline by himself, didnt say how long e was a slave, but for a few seasons, he did escape with the help of a mousemaid named Laterrose, the rose in the gardens is named after her..from a part of the plant in Noonvale, where she lived"
Rowan frowns at the mention of slavers "I would prefer if you skipped past this part I don't like hearing about foul beasts like slavers."
Oz says, "Saddly its a part of Martins story, he was able to fight them and free the slaves, but Rose died in the fight and Martin was sad, he headed innto Mossflower, vowed to never tell where Noonvale was and so far no one knows to this day where it lies" He goes on, "In Mossflower he helped free woodlanders from a female wildcat, again with help he won and it was also when he had the famous sword made, he almost died in te fight but surivied and help build the abbey, he put up the sword oe day and gave up the warrior path, became a brother I think, seasons...many seasons later the sword was found, as he had hid it, and been at te abbey ever since, If not with a champion then hangig by the tapsery""
Rowan nods his head gently as he listens to the tale intently. "It sounds like he lived a full life, I feel bad that he lost the one he cared the most about though."
Oz nods "He never did have another after that, never married..no children" He sighs, "Sort of know whats it is like to lose someone you care dearly for, I lost my mate and child in the Northlands, not to a slaver..an avalenge happen, came so fast" he shakes his head at the memory, "Long time ago,..log time ago I was 8 seasons..maybe 9, I amm 30 seasons now"
Rowan pats the old badger on the shoulder to try and make him feel better. "I know... I was told about what happened mate, didn't meen to bring it up and hurt you with the memories."
Oz says, "Its ok, its the past, I slowly made my way down here and made friends, the abbey is my family now"
Rowan says, "that and it seems you have found your brother once again, he is a nice fellow that beast."
Oz smiles "Yes, he showed up one day and was in a group that helped find me when I was...captive, I don't remeber much just sligt blurr that day, he carried me remember that and being in the infirm."
Rowan smiles back lightly as he clasps his cloak on again. "See every beast has a tale just like their tail" He gives a light chuckle at his bad analogy.
Oz says, "And he does have a serious side, he is very dagerous and deadly in a fight, but also has his joking and annoying side, but e knows when to be funy ad when to be serious"
Rowan nods gently "I think I saw his serious side the night before, when we were talking of things that had passed for us."
Oz nods, "If you ever need someone to help you, he would be a good choice, I never did learn to use a weapon, just a quater staff, but my adopted father was better and a mouse I knew...lot better"
Rowan drums his claws on his knees idlely "perhaps I could spar with him sometime then, that is as long as he doesn't try to kill me like the weasel."
Oz asks, "Why would he try to kill you for?"
Rowan shrugs lightly "When you've had beasts try to kill you your whole life almost you become wary of all."
Oz nods "I for a while didnt want around others, I was a hermit for few seasons, followed my...adopted son here, had plans to leave and end up staying, there here ever since"
Rowan smiles slightly "I can imagine why, it's a wonderful place here."
Oz says, "I learned after a short while of being here, you should be here for a feast, the fall one is always big"
Rowan smiles while closing his eyes at the thought. "I've been living off of fish and hotroot foods for a while now, a feast wouldn't hurt at all."
Oz chuckles as he stands, "There is other things like muffins and soups, breads...I need to check on the dibbuns, talk later" He gets his walking staff and walks off.
