A Vacation turns into a Nightmare: Day Three
Characters: Kentar----- Aikuen, Robin, Garnet
Location: Somewhere Underground. Shoreline
That night went on forever. The stoat and rat were dragged off, down the maze and thrown into a cell together. Jasper was the first to awaken. He was bleeding from his side but it wasn’t bad. Not enough to warrant any real attention at the moment. But Kentar was bleeding from his head thanks to the head wound he got when the guards threw him into the cell. Slowly, Jasper stands and goes over to his friend, rolling him onto his back to check for a pulse. It’s there and that makes him breathe a sigh of relief.
The rat goes about getting Kentar setup to be comfortable but he doesn’t quite do it, since the stoat woke up rather quickly after. “What…Garnet…where’s Garnet?” He sits up with a wince and looks around.
“Relax mate. She’s safe. Got out. So did your son. Don’t worry.” Replies Jasper quietly, kneeling at Kentar’s side. The stoat’s paw rests on his head but the pain there made him blink and check his paw. Blood. “Not good. I think you’ll be fine…but I don’t know”
“I’ll be fine. I’ve got to be fine…I will be…”
“Haha! In your dreams stoat. You see…” a big rat with chains in his paws steps to the door with a bunch of others, also with chains. “You’ll be everything but fine. That stunt of yours let Garnet escape. Our master doesn’t like it when he gets his minions to do something and they fail. And now, your both to be punished.”
The door opens and beasts flood the room, quickly overwhelming Jasper and Kentar. Chains are locked around their wrists and then they’re both dragged off down the long halls and then into a room with locks on the walls that the chains can be fastened too. And that’s what happens. They’re chained to the wall rather quickly, despite all the struggling from the pair.
“When you leave this room, you’ll be dead.” The group of beasts laugh as they rip off the rat’s and the stoat’s tunic. There’s the sound of a box or a chest of some kind opening, and something getting pulled from it. Jasper, looking over his shoulders, could see just what it was. A cat-o-nine-tails. This wasn’t the first time he’s faced one of those, but it is for Kentar.
A second beast, with a second, identical, whip, appears behind Kentar. “One for every hallway you passed. We’ve counted fifteen.” The second beast says before raising up the whip and cracking it against Kentar’s back, making him grunt and shake a little. Jasper takes it quietly, even though tears flood down his face. He won’t give them the feeling of knowing that it bothers him.
Kentar, on the other hand, can’t help it as each crack of the whip hits him square on the back, and soon finishes, making the stoat’s back a mess. He’d passed out a few lashes back, so, thankfully, he didn’t feel the last ones. Jasper, on the other hand, felt every, single, one.
“Give that one…” the leader points to the stoat. “Ten more but pour the bucket of water over him first. Can’t have him out, now can we?” SPLASH! Even though it was for the wrong reasons, Kentar actually enjoyed the splash of water. The feeling he’s still alive and the fact that it washed away the mess. But that whip soon made another.
Both beasts ended up suffering forty lashes each for their attempted escape, they’re successful escape, and the fact that they really, really angered the horde. “Next. We kill you both. But you, rat…I think, since the master wants the stoat dead before he gets a chance to try to escape, will die first. And slow. The stoat, we’ll make watch. And then kill quickly.” Quick words followed by quick actions.
Jasper was kicked in the back of the knees, making him just hanging there from the chains, unable to get up right away. The delay in getting up was all the group needed. Two arrows were aimed, one for each calf in the rat’s leg. Both arrows embed themselves in Jasper’s calves, crippling him. It wouldn’t be enough to cripple him forever, but the next actions were.
The arrows were yanked out and then a knife embedded in each quickly. The same with the stoat. One knife in one calf. But before they could wound the second, Kentar retaliated. He managed to slip free of his restraints, and even though he couldn’t walk well, or think clearly, he managed to kill that beast quick, with the same knife. His wrists were bloody, the stoat having escaped by biting his wrists till they were bleeding, making it slippery enough to get out. Even though it hurt…it had to be done.
Other vermin in the room were amazed at how quick he got free of the restraints. They swarmed him, but each fell in turn. One, had his snout pushed up by Kentar’s elbow, while others were stabbed recklessly at. Some fell over after a few random stabs, and others just kept attacking. Finally, having scraped up a long sword from one of the fallen, he managed to run through the last few quickly before everyone was dead and while Kentar did get stabbed a few times in the side, he succeeded. They were all here. Every last one of them... All 7. Just to watch and laugh at the torture and misfortune of the pair. Slowly, Kentar unlocks Jasper’s binds, the now incapacitated rat falls into a heap on the floor, out like a light.
The stoat put a little too much weight on his wounded leg, falling right over, but right next to Jasper. Close enough to inspect the calf wounds of his friend. He wasn’t really sure what he saw. One moment it was the wounds. But the next was darkness.
“L-love…you…be…s-safe.” Kentar whispers before he finally passes out. Even though Garnet could not hear what he had to say, he felt right saying it. If someone doesn’t get to him soon, it might be too late to save him
Somewhere... nearby...
Aikuen and Robin are still wondering the halls, or the maze, that seems to have them trapped. The otter marks the path, always taking the way that smells, most like death. The stench is just awful. The seem to get deeper and deeper into the winding maze. New paths and dead bodies, as they continue on. Aikuen grunts, and keeps on. Have to find his best friend. He will not leave, without him.
Robin follows Aikuen around, his sword drawn in his good paw, the stoat eyeing everything. The bodies are fresh. Some of them are. And that worries him. "Aik." He whispers. "We're going to find them, right?" he asks.
Aikuen wipes the sweat that has collected on his face, with the back of his paw. He stops when the stoat talk to him. He takes a deep breath, "Of course we are going to find them... I will not leave, without him..." dead or alive. He steps over a body, and marks the path, before taking a right turn.
Robin nods slowly and then sighs, looking around. "Where are they!?" he yells. That wasn't the best thing to do really but he doesn't care anymore. All of a sudden, they can hear yells and then loud cracks of a whip. The voice is Kentar. But where?
Aikuen was just about to berate the stoats for yelling, when he can hear the other yells. He blinks a gives a toothy grin, "Kentar..." and he runs after the sound, down the hall. Short sword in one paw, and a clenched dagger in the other. He has to help him. How dare they whip is friend, "Come on, Robin!" he yells.
Robin follows, gripping. "DAD!?" he's gotten used to calling him that. "WHERE ARE YOU!?" He yells. Find father time now. He can hear father. Just not SEE father. The sound of whipping gets louder and louder then pauses for a bit.
Aikuen races down the hall, then there is another cross roads. And then the sound stops. The otter growls, "Where the...!" he curses loudly, and begins to pace, listing for any sound, any movement. Anything that can help him find the stoats. His anger has reached a breaking point. Any beast in his path, better be prepared. Kill first, ask questions later. Is the standby at the moment for the otter.
The young stoat stops next to Aik and bites his lip, looking around. There's nothing else for several moments. "He's...not dead...is he?" then yells and whip cracking again is heard. LOUDER and much closer. Just a few halls away. He takes that as a no and starts to run off down a hall that the sound is coming from. "This way! I can hear it again!
Aikuen was just about to tell off the stoat again, when the crack of the whip is heard. And off the stoat goes. He blinks a takes a deep breath, have to control his anger. Don't want to kill friends. He chases after the young stoat. After licking his blades once more.
Another, much louder, yell is heard before quiet. Nothing else. At all. Robin and Aik run for a few moments before they finally come to another set of hallways. There's left, right, back, and then the forward option they've got is a door. "I think he's in there." Robin whispers, going up to the door.
Aikuen, when he gets to the door, is not in the mood to be quiet. Not in the mood, to be careful. Not in the mood, to even just open the door. Before Robin can even get to the door, Aik runs up and stomps his foot hard against the door, shattering the wood around the handle, and one of the hinges. It swings, and crashes against the wall, where it hangs limply. The otter rushes in, sword raised, and red in his eyes. But then he lowers his sword, "Kentar..." and he looks to the downed stoat.
The door bursts open and Robin runs in behind Aik. "L-loveyoubes-safe." Kentar whispers before he finally passes out. He didn't see the otter or the stoat come in but they would see him pass out like that. Robin paused, amazed at the dead beasts in the room before running over to Kentar. "Dad!" he doesn't notice Jasper, the knocked out rat, there yet.
Aikuen blinks as the stoat passes out, and lets Robin to get to him first. He still wants to kill something. But doesn't look like he has too. He looks around, and sheaths both blades, "Holy...!" another curse, as he looks around. He goes over to Japser, and kneels by him. He blinks and says, "How did you get here?" the last time he remembers seeing him, was him being left with the other soldiers on the surface. He shakes his head and goes over to Kentar. He checks his pulse, "Still alive..." he pulls off his healers pouch and starts to look over the stoat.
Robin moves out of the way as Jasper starts to wake up. "Ungh" he growls in pain, lots of blood. LOTS of it. Everywhere. Both Kentar and Jasper. The floor. The walls and the dead guys. "Rescue..." he whispers quietly, giving a quiet, and secretive smirk. "Kentar...Garnet...escaped...found...way out." the rat says, panting for breath, ignoring the fact he can't feel anything below his knees. "Garnet...Chris...on the surface. Protected. Kentar and I...captured." and with that, he passes out again. Kentar is still out so he doesn't know either of them is here.
Aikuen blinks and nods, "Really... Fine then. Good." he hands over a vial and a roll of bandages to Robin, "Clean his wounds... Ill check up on Jasper..." And with that he goes over to Jasper again, and give him a once over. He shakes his head, "Leg muscles... cut right through..." as he digs into the rats leg, setting the strands back. Its very gross, but he has to make sure the muscle is set. Or else the rat will never walk again.
Robin nods and quickly gets to work, the stoat cleaning off his father's wounds. But he can't help glance over to Jasper. "I...don't think he'll be walking again." He whispers to the otter, despite his healing and muscle setting. "I've...seen that before..." he blinks and then shakes his head, bandaging up Kentar. But that calf stab in Kentar's left leg needs to be looked at by Aik. Robin doesn't know how to set muscles. Luckily, Kentar's wasn't as deep.
Aikuen already knows he wont be able to walk again, even before the younger stoat tells him. The strands have already set, in the wrong place. He hates this part of the job, and he just has to have the feeling that he tried. He wipes the sweat out of his eyes, and takes a deep breath, making a mark on the rats leggings, showing where they will have to cut the legs off, if it becomes infected. Which there is a very high chance of. The otter then closes up the rats wound, before going over to Kentar. He eyes him for a second before cleaning his paw with the acid, "Same thing, but it didn't go as deep..." he digs into the stoats leg, and and flow of blood pours out of the leg. The otter grits, and pull the top strand down again. He grins, "He will... again" and he pulls out, going to staunch the flow, before sealing up the leg.
Robin looks to Jasper then sighs before back to Kentar. "He will?" He asks, smiling wide. "Wonderful! That's great! Haha!" The young stoat laughs and sighs happily. "I can't believe it. He's alive!" he smiles. "They're alive! All of them! Haha!!!" he sits back and scratches his head. "Can we go home now? When your done I mean."
Aikuen is placing the stoats legs in a small splint, so they don't jerk the muscle out again. He sighs and double checks his work before nodding to Robin, "Aye... There alive... There all alive..." he will celebrate later, when they are out of this hell. He stands up, placing his supplies back in his pouch before nodding, "Alright. I've done all i can, without proper supplies..." he goes over to Jasper, and hauls him over his shoulder, "I'll get him... you get Kentar..."
Robin nods and picks Kentar up, hauling him over his shoulder, despite his broken arm. The stoat starts for the door, but then a big stoat, same height as Robin, steps into the door way. "Need help?" The stoat asks. He looks strangely familiar. But Robin doesn't notice. He just freezes.
Aikuen was about to follow the younger stoat, when the bigger stoat pop in the door. He pulls out his dagger with his left paw, and hold it backwards, ready to slice and dice, with the wounded being held by his right. He steps in front of the younger stoat, and looks to the bigger one, "Who are you? Why are you here?..." he blinks, "Why are you going to help us?" he is confused.
The big stoat points to a piece of parchment stuck in Kentar's waistband. Apparently the vermin didn't find his map. "See that? Its a map of the caves. I made it myself. And I gave it to him. I'm the reason Garnet and her son are on the surface." He then goes to take Kentar but Robin backs off. "I'm a friend. Trust me." After a moment, Robin looks to Aik and wonders. "Maybe we should accept his help?"
Aikuen continues to eye the other stoat. He then looks to the map, and become more confused. The otter blinks and says, "My name is... Listen... You can help. But play us wrong..." he shakes his head, "You must have helped. They are safe...." yes the otter is not making any sense, "Lead us out..." and he sheaths his dagger, once more.
The big stoat takes Kentar over his shoulders and leads on, down a different hall then the one they used to come here. "Follow me. I'll have you outside quicker then you can say day light, sweet day light!" he laughs. Robin just follows, guard up, dagger in paw.
Aikuen follows last, behind the younger stoat. Keeping the rear. Even thought his dagger is put away, he still has his guard up as well. Though the bigger stoat seems to be trustworthy enough. Never gave a reason not too at least.
The stoat leads them through the tunnels and then down an insanely long one. "So. What's your name, again, waterdog?" He asks, tilting his head. "Er. Sorry. I know most otters don't like being called that but I don't really know what else to call you for the moment." he asks. "And you, I already know you Robin. No worries there." he chuckles. Robin blinks and stays closer to Aik now.
Aikuen eyes the stoat again when he says waterdog. Its very insulting to him, but he shrugs it off to answer "The name is Aik... Ima River-otter..." he then looks over to Robin, and gives a very confused look, before saying, "How do you know Robin?" That's not good.
"Well. I learned what they were going to do. Capture Garnet and Kentar I mean. I was going to warn them, but when I got to the boat, I found I was a little late. And decided not to fight. Mainly because I can't fight all that well." He nods a little. "Heard Robin say his name to the vermin who asked who he was. Before...well." His paw motions to Robins injuries. "That happened. I pulled him out of the water and then hid again." The stoat blinks. But says nothing. He knew someone had to have pulled him out since he was knocked out for a while. Would have drowned otherwise.
Aikuen eyes and nods, even though the bigger stoat cant see him, "You did..." he takes a deep breath, "I think Robin owes you some thanks..." he nods, "Thank you... er... Whats your name?" he asks.
Robin blinks. "Oh...yeah. Thanks. I knew someone had to have dragged me onto the docks." he says. The other stoat shrugs. "No problem. And Lucien. My name is Lucien." the stoat replies before taking a left turn. The only turn there is this time. "So. Aik, the river-otter. How do you know my sister?" he asks.
Aikuen follows along, seeming to like this stoat. At least, enough, "Just Aik... Your sister?" he blinks, and ohs, "I'm guessing Garnet is your sister..." he nods and is a little surprised by this, "I know her... from Kentar. I'm their friends..." he is not sure how much he should say, just in case, "I promised that i would protect them both after..." he shakes his head, "That's why I'm here... Though it seems like... the worst is over..." he hopes.
Lucien nods. "It is. The only things left to do is get Kentar and...that rat...to the surface." he says. "There's no more. They're all dead. They killed them all. My friends." he pauses. "Well. Family comes first. Always has. Friends or not." he nods once. He might be evil. But family has always meant a great deal to him. "Just another minute or two and we'll be out." He nods. This is not the way they came in.
Aikuen says, "His name is Jasper. Old friend of Kentar's..." he continues to follow the bigger stoat, "Where are we going?" he finally asks, "This is not the way i remember..." he hmms to himself, as he draws his dagger.
Lucien points to a bright light at the end of the tunnel. "There." He says. "Its a different way out, not far from where you came in. Don't worry, I'm not taking you to a trap." Robin thinks then tilts his head. After a few more steps, they walk out into the sand. Its true. They're not far from where Aik came in. "Sort of a back way out, if you will."
Aikuen is very surprised at this. Glad that there is at least one evil beast out there with morals. He smiles as he steps out onto the sand, "Holy -" Do you kiss your mother with that mouth? He almost jumps up for joy, as natural light hits him, "Thank you... Lucien... Thank you. For saving Garnet, and Chris... and for helping us find our way out..." he nods.
Lucien chuckles and hands Kentar back to Robin who takes him carefully. "I maybe evil. But family and family friends always, and I mean always come first." He smiles softly. "Anyways. I have...meeting...to attend and I am running a little behind. "I trust you two know where the camp is?" he asks, nodding over a sand dune.
Aikuen nods, "Aye. We can find our way... Thanks again. And if our paths should ever meet again. Please. don't be a stranger..." he grins and gives a short bow, before hauling Jasper back in the direction of the camp.
Robin has already set off for the camp. Lucien nods. "I'll be in your area of Mossflower. Probably staying at the Black Gull. Look for me there if you ever need anything." he says before waving. "Good luck Aik. And tell Garnet...and my nephew...I love them." The stoat vanishes behind a sand dune.
Aikuen smiles faintly as he takes Jasper back to Camp. He enters and is immediately offset by soldiers. He shoos them away, "Be of some help, and get me a surgeon!" he orders out. Some run off to get him, while others point of toward the tent. Some are just staring at the form of Kentar, and Jasper. Aik walks toward one the of the tents that was pointed out, and motion Robin to follow.
Robin follows Aik into the tent and then sets Kentar down on a bed, on his front as not to hurt his whip wounds. The stoat then sighs as he takes a seat next to him. "Any idea when he'll wake up?" He asks. "I want to tell him something..."
Aikuen sets Jasper down and is confronted by the surgeon, wearing a bloodied apron. They talk for a minute. Aik points to Jaspers legs. And then points to Kentar. The surgeon nods, and says something, while shaking his head. Aik takes a deep breath, as he sits on the floor. Resting his bloodied paws in his head. He is tired. "I don't know... Soon. Depending on how severe his whips were." he takes another deep breath.
The stoat nods and looks to his father before the surgeon before Aik. "Aik." he says quietly. "I saw, on the way out, a cat-o-nine-tails on the ground...it...was messy. Very. Does that tell you how bad they were?" he asks.
Aikuen shrugs, "Not really... A cat-o-nine-tails whip... its just like any other whip... Expect its does it nine times... instead of once. So that's a good... and a bad thing... Its bad because he got whipped more than a beast ever should. But good... because each swing was weaker... then it was, with a single..." he shakes his head. Not really wanting to talk about torture methods. The surgeon returns, wearing a pair of spectacles. He looks to Jaspers leg wounds, mumbling under his breath. Aik just looks to him, before turning back to Robin, "He will wake... when he wakes... He seems stable enough. So you don't have to sorry about him dying..." he rubs his eyes, with his palms.
The stoat nods. "I know what it was. But. I don't know how many times they got whipped. So...if it was a lot...is it bad?" He asks. The stoat then looks to the surgeon and then back to Aik. "Alright...I'm glad." he rubs his eyes. "Can. You go get Garnet? Aik?" he asks. "Please? She'll want to know he's back."
Aikuen nods, "No... Whips, were built for pain. That's it. They cant do any real damage, that wont heal quickly. Physically anyway..." Mentally, is a totally different story. "I'm more worried about his leg, then his whip wounds..." When the stoat asks, Aik points behind the stoat, "She is right over there... saw her when i came in..." Its true, Garnet is, what seems to be sleeping, on the cot farthest from the tent entrance. She is on her side, Chris is in front of her. And if the dang waves would stop, you could hear her sobbing lightly. Aik sighs, "You can wake her..." he stands and goes to watch the surgeon. Its not looking good.
Robin huhs and looks around, spotting Garnet. He nods and stands and when he gets closer, he stops. The stoat's ears catch the light sobbing and that delays him for a moment. Slowly, he starts back towards her before placing his good paw on her shoulder, gently shaking. "Garnet? Mum'?" he asks. He figures something like that might wake her. Since, really, she is his step mum.
Garnet is still sobbing, because she believes that Kentar is dead. She has shut out the world. That's why she couldn't hear anything going on. Anywhere. She does notice the shaking. She blinks awake, and immediately wished she could go back to sleep. Its much better there. She curls up slightly around Chris, and ignores the beast for now. As she didn't hear him. )
Robin sighs. "Mum, wake up. Dad's back...Kentar's back. Come on. He...needs you right about now." the stoat whispers to her. "Please get up."
Garnet curls up even more. She still didn't hear him. Or... Something in the back of her mind is saying, 'Look around... He is alive...MOVE!' And, she does. She turns over on the cot and looks up at Robin. She blinks up at him, before going to sit up and could fall apart. She runs of her cot and over to Kentar. She falls to her knees, taking his paw in hers. While holding Chris in the other. She starts to sob loudly. Cant tell, if they are tears of joy, or of sadness. She still hasn't said anything. Aik and the surgeon talk on. Though the otter did glance to Garnet, before return to talking. Something in Aik tells him something. And he looks to Robin, "Think you can take care of them?" he hasn't seen his wife in three days. He needs to go back to her soon. Or else Aik will fall apart. He is getting his emotions back, as the adrenaline is falling. He feels very sad for leaving her.
Robin watches Garnet and then sighs. He sits down next to her and his father, looking back to Aik a few moments later. "Aye. I can." he replies. "Go. You need to tell the others..." he smiles a little. He knew the reason why Aik want's to leave. "And you...should take your time as not to...surprise them too much."
Aikuen nods, and goes to attention, "Thank you, and I will...Sir..." he gives a very good salute, before tapping his heels, and out of the tent. He jump in the ocean, and swims north to the village, cleaning the blood, and grime from him as he does so. So not to scare the others, when they see him. The surgeon is ordering, from a nearby healer, the 'Spat' and a bone saw. That's not good. Garnet is still sobbing away, unaware of anything. But she will not let Kentar go. For anything.
Robin blinks at the order. His hearing is good. The stoat pats Garnet once and then slowly stands, going over. "What's wrong?" he asks. He figures it Jasper but it better not be either of them. When Robin leaves, Kentar's grip on Garnet's paw tightens from limp to semi-awake. "Garnet...?" he grunts out quietly.
The surgeon looks to Robin, as he washes his paws, "Hmm? Oh. Well. Jasper." he thinks on how to say this, "The otter told you that the legs will never heal right? I'm guessing he also told you that he saw infection? The muscles have been completely torn from his leg, and Infection is starting to set in, on his left leg... We have to remove it before it spreads..." Garnet come alive at the sound of his voice, "Ke...Kentar!" she finally says, wondering if its a dream or not.
Robin phews a little bit, nodding. "Right." The stoat sighs. "I'm. He..." The stoat scratches his head. "Won't ever walk again." that makes him sigh heavily. "Can he keep his rank? Or forced retirement?" He asks, tilting his head. He knows the answer. He can't fight if he can't walk. Kentar slowly opens his eye and moves his head towards Garnet to get a good look at her. A small smile sets on his face. "Glad...your safe." he whispers. Nothing more he can do other then whisper right about now.
The surgeon tilts his head, "He can keep his rank, sure. But only because he is such a high ranking officer. But he will never be on the field ever again. Might be something clerical... or... something in training." he looks to the rat, "Whatever he chooses... He may want retirement, of course..." he sighs, and washes up for the next part. Which will be loud and gross. Garnet smiles at Kentar, and cries into his paw, "Of course I'm safe... thanks to you..." A soldier walks in, with a bone saw, and says that the 'Spat' is ready outside.
Robin nods a little bit. "Alright. Well. Do you need help? I can help." he nods a little bit. Kentar looks around slowly and nods a bit, taking her paw a little tighter, but his grip fades. "Ow." he whispers quietly. "My wrist..." slowly he sits up but lets a loud yelp before laying back down. "Ow..." the stoat sighs. "I'm so glad your okay. I did what I had to to protect you...thank you for listening to me when I told you to leave." he smiles softly and closes his eye. "So good to be back."
The surgeon takes the bone saw, and goes over to Jasper, "Are you sure? Alright then..." he points to what looks like think string, "Hand me that please... and that..." He points to what looks like a wood cigar, "Alright. I need you to hold his shoulders down. Carefully. But enough so if he does wake. So he doesn't interfere with what I'm doing..." he marks a line where he will cut, just below the knee. Waiting on the stoat to hand him the objects he requested. Garnet lets go of his paw, thinking that she is squeezing it too tight or something. But she sill cries into his paw, "I'm okay. Chris is okay. Your alive... I love you... and... i thought you were gone... again..." she looks down.
Robin blinks and nods slowly. He hands the items requested and then looks down to Jasper. He holds down the shoulders. "Um. Are you sure we shouldn't like do this away from the stoats?" he asks. "Or is here the only option." he looks up. And down to Jasper. He feels so sorry for him. Kentar nods slowly. After a few moments of thought, he sits up. It visibly tortures him to do it, but he doesn't care. After a few moments, to get used to the pain, he wraps his arms around his wife and hugs her tight.
The surgeon says flatly, "Yes. This is the surgeons tent. We cant do it outside... Or else sand would get in the wound. Then i would have to cut more off... They could leave. But Kentar is in no state to move. And that girl seems to be attached to his arm, so i think that's out..." he looks to Kentar, "Ah. your awake. Please, if you don't want to see it. Please look away..." he is still getting ready, and he asks for the 'Spat' to be brought in. Garnet takes the hug, and cries into him, before she lightly pushes him back down, "Please you need to rest, the healer... will see you soon." she blinks up at the surgeon before closing her eyes, and looking down. She has seen it before. She doesn't want to see it again.
Robin sighs and then nods. "Alright." He holds the rat down. Kentar looks to the surgeon guy and then shakes his head slowly, laying back down, looking away. His eye closes tightly. "Garnet...I love you. I will never, ever leave you again. No matter what." He whispers before drifting off. But he's alright. That's the best thing for right now. Jasper, starts to wake. He looks up and then down at what they're going to do. He knows it. He's seen it many times before. "One...or just both?" He asks. He doesn't seem nervous.
The surgeon looks to Jasper and says, "One. Your left. But you will never be able to walk on the other one either... You know what to do..." he puts the wood cigar crossways in the rats mouth. Jasper clenches the wood, in between his fangs. And closes his eyes. The surgeon wraps the string tightly around the Rats leg, cutting off all circulation to anything below it. The 'Spat' is brought in. Which is a sheet of metal, with a wooden handle. The Metal is red hot from a fire. The surgeon nods, and takes the saw, to the leg. Its over and off quickly, and the surgeon quickly cauterizes the end with the 'Spat'. He then dabs a thick gooey paste all over the stump. While the infected leg is carried off to be burned. And he unties the string, and all the blood starts to flow back in. Jasper grits with a mound of pain.
The rat clenches it tightly in his fangs, grunting in pain. As much as it hurts. As much as this is absolute torture, he stays awake and still. He's no stranger to pain. Although, this is much more then he's been though in many seasons. He grips Robin's paw tightly but not tight enough to hurt. His eyes clench tighter when the string is removed. His mind races with hundreds of thoughts. What will his wife think? Or his son? What about his daughter? The promises he can't keep now. But then he puts his mind to something positive. Nicknames. Jasper the one leg. One legged rat. One legged Jasper. None sound good. Although, those names make it hard to keep his mind off the pain.
The surgeon finishes on the stump, by wrapping it in a bandage, "Your all set Jasper. In about two or three weeks. You can remove the bandage. We'll also see about getting you a wheelchair..." he nods and calls over a few healers that were see to other soldiers, to the rat and stoat. They start to clean, stitch, and bandage anything that they can see. They are quick and efficient. Like field healers should be. The surgeon watches them, before heading out side with the bloody 'spat' to go sterilize it. He doesn't say anything about the rats rank. He doesn't need to know now. Garnet, goes to sit next to Kentar, slowly patting his paw, after the surgeon left, "I'm glad your alive... and in... one piece..." she smiles faintly.
Jasper slowly takes that thing out of his jaws before panting hard. He looks down to his stub and then his other, now useless leg. "Sort of wish he took the other one too." he chuckles a bit. A few beads of sweat drop from his forehead as he sits up with a small wince. He seems to be in better shape then Kentar. Even though its just ignoring the pain he's in. "How's Kentar?" he looks to the stoats. )
Garnet looks up and at Jaspers missing leg, before turning away. She doesn't say anything. One of the healers, answers for her, "The stoat is fine, sir. Bandaged. Manage to save his leg... Sir..." she wipes the sweat on the rat, "Sewed up his wounds, and started the gauze on his back, sir... Be back to normal... After some rest. Looks like he has been though this before....Sir..." she nods curly, before taking one of the trays she was carrying to a nearby table. )
In fact, Kentar's been through worse. Much worse. Only he knows it though. The stoat sleeps quietly but Jasper does not. He nods slowly and then smiles a little as his brow was wiped off. "Thanks. Good to hear." he looks over before back to Robin. "How are you holding up." The stoat shrugs. "Well, I guess. You?" Jasper shrugs. "I'll be fine." he then lies back down and closes his eyes, going to sleep. Robin slowly goes back to Garnet and sits next to her.
Garnet looks to Robin, and smiles a little bit, "Thank you... Robin... For saving him..." she takes a deep stuttered breath, "Thanks... You need to get some rest as well... As soon as he is able to walk for long periods again... were leaving this place... " she says resolutely. She pats Kentar's paw, and nods, she is not going to sleep. She cant anyway. So much has been happening. )
Robin nods slowly and pats her shoulder softly. "I understand." he leans over to hug her once before standing. "Night Mum. See you tomorrow. Make sure he doesn't fall off the bed." The stoat laughs quietly before turning, and leaving.
