A Short Trip To Ferravale and Back Home Again

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

  • starts in Market place of Ferravale and then on back to the abbey*

Leon has arrived in the village and looks over a small list, checking over it again he slips it into his pocket for safe keeping and heads to the market area seeing as the one on the road is closed for the colder season.

The market place is rather busy this time of day and unknown, unless he is paying attention, the mouse is being watched by a couple weasels, one taller than the other as they speak, "Mouse is in the village, we should soooooooooooo greet him" The other nods as they head towards the mouse.

Leon sighs but finally does have at least a stand that has cinnamon and nutmeg and after a few minutes gets a good price for it and places it in the traveling pack he has as he looks at the list. "Ok..some mint and sage...oh yeah and witch hazel..shouldn't be too hard to find."
The one weasel gets behind him, "Hello woodlander..are you alone?" The other weasel is in front "He seems a bit alone." They both give one of those not so friendly chuckles.

Leon frowns, a vole comes along, "I found the mint...oh" He frowns quickly, well someone needed to help move a small cart right? Leon looks at the vole "Just stay calm Novice Ted, we'll fine."

The weasel chuckles "Yes fine once we have valuables" The other weasel looks and snorts "Herbs and spices are not valuable boss..." His boss rolls his eyes "Gold or copper is..he has to have some or other things besides this and the vole too."
Leon frowns and stays in front of the vole, "I don’t have much coin sir and nothing worth anything to you"
Bramblefur slips behind the one weasel, “I have something much better than coin if walking away and leaving mousie alone..tis called ya life." The weasel spins around and his mouth drops "Oh..B..Bramblefur! I was just...making sure all was well, looks fine" He grabs the other weasel paw and they bolt as the wildcat grins and looks at Leon now, “Sometimes common thieves like to rob others ya?"
Leon blinks and nods "Umm..thanks Bramblefur" The vole nods his thanks as well. "That could have end another way"
Bramblefur nods" I am being glad helped, so why is Redwalleer in Ferravale?"
Leon says, "It’s the only place close to get some healing herbs and a couple ones for the kitchens this time of the year and Ferravale has a peace treaty with the abbey, then can’t say all is friendly here."
Bramblefur says, "Ahhh..I am seeing ya..maybe I help you get rest of wot need ya?" He offers the help anyways "And escort back to the abbey also."
Leon nods, he stops by the infirm and another area of the market and with the vole finds the rest of what he needs and is soon ready to head back to the abbey.
Bramblefur says, "I escort back now"

Leon nods, he is glad of the extra help and the vole seems very VERY glad as they get back to the abbey by around mid-afternoon.

RW Abbey: Infirmary

Several beds are lined against the red sandstone walls of the Abbey's Infirmary. An examination table, separated from the rest of the room by hanging blankets, rests against the far wall. Tucked into a small alcove is a sizeable workbench with various containers for mixing and preparing medicinal compounds. Against another wall is a desk for use by the Infirmary Keeper. A curtained off alcove behind the desk hides a locked door to the Infirmary's supplies and linens.

The Infirmary is fairly quiet today, only a few beasts with colds, or dibbuns with bruised knees. The door opens suddenly, and in walks Friar Lacota, who has a handkerchief held to his nose. The squirrel sneezes, then calls out, "Leon? Are you in here? I need something for a cold!"

Krystal is here and quickly sits up a little jumpy as she grabs the cover, the oversize cloak isn’t there now and she wears a simple abbey novice robe for now, "He..he went elsewhere." She says quietly.
Lacota sneezes again, and nods. "Ah, ok." He smiles some, and blows his nose. "How are you today? I'm afraid planning the winter feast has kept me rather preoccupied lately."
Krystal manages a smile "I am..ok, I almost fell in the pond when skating, it’s thinner in the center."
Lacota frowns, looking concerned. "Are you sure you're alright, Krystal? I had no idea!"
Krystal nods "I am fine, thanks to this sea otter..he took me to the firepit and let me have his cloak a short time and started a fire, then he had to help some beast else. I..I came here little later, someone said I should so..did"
Lacota nods. "Sea otter?" He then smiles. "Oh well, I'm just glad you're ok. I don't know what I'd do if..." He shakes his head. "Just, please be careful..."
Krystal manages a smile "I..will be, just skating was fun and made me feel so..free, like flying and I didn’t know the ice was so thin further out I..I think I will stay away from the pond for a while, till its warm now"
Lacota nods his head. "Perhaps... Perhaps we can got skating together next winter... I think I would greatly enjoy that."
Krystal smiles "It may be fun just..not near the center of the pond"
Lacota says, "Aye, not the center. "

Krystal chuckles, "I guess since was..only half in the pond less than a minute I am fine..." She then frowns "Someone else sank and..had to be brought here quickly, but I think they are also alright"

Lacota tilts his head. "Who?" He sneezes again. "Pardon the sneeze."
Krystal tries to remember a name, "Silverstorm..you should get something for the cold Lacota"
Lacota nods his head. "Aye. I'd hoped to find Leon here for something..." He finds someplace to sit. "Anyway, how are you finding abbey life, Krystal?"
Leon shows up about this time, he speaks to a vole "Well make sure Lacota gets what he needs and leave the rest here." He still has his traveling cloak on as he walks in and hangs up the cloak. The vole nods and does what was asked, leave some here and take whats need to the kitchens.

Krystal starts to answer and looks at the door as the healer shows up again, she looks back to Lacota "I am..slowly fitting in, I think"

Lacota smiles. "I am glad to hear that, Krystal." He waves to Leon. "Hello there, you're just in time... Got anything for a cold?"
Leon nods as he finds Elderberries and sage, both good for colds and even cough and adds a small amount of honey as he mixes in in water and hands it to Lacota, "You didn’t fall in a pond too..did you?" He starts to put away some supplies he has "Oh and..there is a couple spices novice Ted should have in the kitchens by now as well."
Lacota shakes his head. "Not in the pond, no." He sips the mixture slowly. "Thank you, Brother Leon." He smiles to Krystal again. "I think you'll enjoy the feast this weekend..."
Krystal smiles "I..will be there, never been to a feast before."
Clover peers into the infirmary. He's not sick but he does so want to be useful. And the most useful thing he can think of healing other beasts. The rabbit has the idea that if he can get away with hanging about the infirmary he might learn something from the healers. Sure he could ask some beast about learning healing, but the last time he mentioned it the other beast had thought he was ill.
Leon nods "Feasts here are usually fun and lots of good food."
Lacota says, "Indeed, Krystal. I have a large and varied menu planned. I am certain you will enjoy yourself."
Krystal smiles "I am sure as well..."
Clover knocks on the infirmary's door frame. The young rabbit pokes his head in to see what's going on. It doesn't seem like the healers are very busy today. Clover waves at the squirrels and mouse. He feels a bit awkward interrupting them like this, but he doesn't know when he'll have a better chance to talk to some beast about healing then now.
Leon nods, he sits down, "Can't say I want to go to Ferravale again anytime soon, but hopefully won’t have too.." He looks up at the knock and looks over at the rabbit" Hello, did you need something ?"
Lacota glances toward the door. "Good day." He sips more of his drink. "Ferravale? I haven't been up that way in a while, myself."
Krystal says, "Isn’t it a..vermin place?"
The rabbit nods in answer to the healer's question. Clover points to the paper pinned to his tunic which has his name written on it, to introduce himself. The rabbit waits a moment then points to himself. He cups one paw with a claw mimes grinding something in a bowl, like healers do to make some medicines. Clover holds a paw flat and holds the other near his eyes. He brings his paw down and runs his claws along his flat palm to try and suggest reading. He brings the same paw back up to his head to mean learning. He knows they may not understand him but he is not the swiftest with a quill nor does he think they'd just wait around for him to write everything out every time he has to say something.

Leon watches and hmms softly, "Your name is Clover and...something about reading or..writing maybe?"

Krystal blinks as she tries to understand as well.
Lacota nods to Krystal. "Yes it is. One must be wary there." He watches the rabbit with interest. "I think he wants to learn medicine, Leon." The squirrel mimics the grinding in a bowl motion. "That's a mortar and pestle, Lad. What you folks use to grind herbs. You see if I'm not right."
Leon rethinks and then smiles "Yeah, it does look like that, your right Lacota it just wasn’t coming to me right away. Well the infirm is the best place to learn healing and they could maybe learn some healing from me and even Angela too."
Clover forcefully blows a puff of air out his mouth in annoyance as he starts to pull a parchment, quill and a bottle of ink from his satchel. He blinks and turns to look at the Friar. Well one of them got it. He points at the squirrel and nods. He doesn't put his writing supplies away just yet as he may still need them. He points to his throat and shakes his head to make it more clear that he not being cryptic on purpose, not much anyway. Clover smiles at Leon and nods again. He points up and then moves his arms slowly in an arch from east to west to try and ask when that might be.

Leon hmms and watches Clover, "Ummm...if you’re asking when you can learn, well maybe could do a lesson little later today"

Lacota smiles. He's had experience with beasts who are unable to speak. "Welcome to Redwall Abbey, Clover. Brother Leon here is very adept at many healing techniques."

Krystal lets them talk as she decides to take a nap, then she can go back to her own room afterwards, she is feeling better just tried.

Clover nods at Leon and starts to put his parchment, ink and quill away in his pack. He only has so much parchment at paw and he doesn't want to waste it if he doesn't have to. He smiles at Lacota and holds out a paw to him. The rabbit makes a gesture of thanks for the Friar's quick thinking. If it weren't for the squirrel it would have taken Clover much longer to get his wishes across to Brother Leon.
Leon smiles, he looks over at Krystal as she falls asleep, he will let her stay for now and looks back to the rabbit.

Clover bows to the Friar and Brother and takes a step back. He glances back at the hallway. He doesn't really have a reason to stay in the infirmary now and he doesn't want to get in Brother Leon's way. The young beast shrugs and waits a moment to see if either of the others want to say anything more to him before stepping out of the room.

Lacota shakes Clover's paw. "My pleasure to help, sir. Learning to be a healer is a very noble dream."

Leon smiles, "Yes and you can even let me know if you already know something as some know basics and some don’t. We try to make sure all abbey beasts know basic healing and sometimes some wish to know more on healing, I will be happy to help you learn healing."

Clover nods again from the hall. He waves to the healer and Friar, planning to take his leave of them for the time being.

Leon watches the rabbit head off, he still needs to organize the supplies he got for the infirm and after that he can let the abbot know the infirm is once more very well stocked again.
