A Few Player Desc Stats
Welcome to the next installment of Riverdale’s useless stats!
This time, I’ve performed some basic analysis on player descs to see if there are any noteworthy or amusing trends. While I didn't find anything as exciting as I would have liked (“a”, “the”, “of”, “and”, and “is” were the top five words—what was I expecting, really?), I'll print here some of the more interesting findings.
First, the most common items of clothing, accessories, or distinguishing features (based purely on word frequency):
- 100 scars
- 73 vests
- 69 swords
- 56 daggers
- 51 collars
- 45 tattoos
- 41 rings
To my great distress, the word “footpaws” appears a massive 66 times.
Items that only appear once in player descs:
- Suspenders
- A bonnet
- A pike
- A quarterstaff
- A kerchief
- A fiddle
- And, apparently, only one character wears undergarments. (I know you're wondering, but this is strictly anonymous.)
3-gram analysis, for the most part, did little more than to underscore the fact that there are only so many ways in which to physically describe a character. Since there's not much entertainment value there, I've gone through the top 100 trigrams to highlight only those that I find interesting. Actually, the most common trigram was a bit of a surprise to me: “a pair of”. (It makes sense.) To me, the best single detail is that there are 13 pairs of "gold hoop earrings" (mostly, on closer investigation, sported by male characters).
- "pair of black" is roughly twice as popular as "pair of brown"
- 15 descriptions contain a sentence beginning with "Before you stands"
- "his left ear" is mentioned 64% more frequently than "his right ear"
An unedited list of the top 100 trigrams by raw frequency is available here.
