A Dibbun Is Born, but How is The Mother?

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

      • This starts at the Tribal Grounds of the Gawtrybe****

The Gawtrybe had become smaller since the retaking of Redwall Abbey, about half the size it use to be but Anomen was a good leader and had learned a lot in the short 3 weeks since then as he looks over the tribe he stands in front of.

Ekon stays close by as he has be an advisor since Anomen has taken over; he looks over a squirrel maid whom is lying on a small bed that’s been made.

Treesong is the one lying in bed and looks worn out and every so often tenses up, her eyes half open.

Althea stands next to a couple warriors and reports “We have a fair amount of herbs, but me and Ekon are the only ones with healer knowledge sir and your mate needs help”

Arrowbreeze nods as she agrees, “Yes, so where we get help?”

Ekon steps forwards “There Redwall Abbey, we could seek help there we could. Snowbella take Anomen there and maybe he could bring back some other herbs or some healer maybe he could..”

Treesong looked to be in some pain, she is with child and was having some trouble now, she stayed quiet as they talked.

Anomen sighs and nods “I know beasts at Redwall yes.” He looks at Treesong worried and back to the rest of the tribe, counting himself and Treesong the tribe was about 11 Strong and hopefully if all went well one more would soon be added, he hoped and prayed no more lives would be lost as he could not handle it if it happen.

Althea smiles “It would be for the best sir, maybe take her along with you as the sooner she gets help the better.”

Arrowbreeze “I will help protect the camp chieftain, I will do well with my fellow warriors I promise this”

Ekon nods “I will help keep things in order Anomen, get my daughter the help she needs please, the camp will be ok while you are gone, safe we will stay”

Treesong looks up at Anomen, she looks slightly weaker than she was.

Snowbella flies down as she had been given a message to come and lands near Anomen, “To Redwall then?”

Anomen nods as he gently picks up Treesong and gets onto Snowbella and nods “Yes with most haste”

--A half an hour later, after being dropped off in the open ground by Snowbella..it is basically Midnight and few are awake but help is needed now!----

RW Abbey: Infirmary

Several beds are lined against the red sandstone walls of the Abbey's Infirmary. An examination table, separated from the rest of the room by hanging blankets, rests against the far wall. Tucked into a small alcove is a sizeable workbench with various containers for mixing and preparing medicinal compounds. Against another wall is a desk for use by the Infirmary Keeper. A curtained off alcove behind the desk hides a locked door to the Infirmary's supplies and linens.

Exits: Infirmary [Rec]overy Room, [H]ealer's [D]ormitory, [O]pen [G]round, [Hall]

Anomen appears at the infirm doorway carrying Treesong as he looks around in a near panic it seems. He is not dressed like normal squirrel as he is tribal chieftain of the Gawtrybe, he frowns as he asks a passing Novice "Where is your Master Healer at?!" Some panic in his voice and worry as well.

Treesong looks weak and tried and her eyes half open as she looks around the infirm.
Angelo is awake and here as he looks over and quickly goes to help "Probably asleep this time of night but I am here and will help best I can" He takes one look at the squirrel maid and quickly lifts her out of the other squirrels arms and gets her to a cot as he starts to order the couple novice there who more quickly to help and get whatever it is he needs.

Anomen frowns "But, what about Leon..I..I know and trust him. Who are you?" He frowns and decides to let the hare help, "She is with child and..somethings gone wrong and we didn’t have the herbs there, can you help her?"

Angelo nods as he gets the needed herbs, he is glad there is an order and ABC to things and the couple novice awake can help "I am a skilled healer lad. go sit in the hall and stay outta my well it’s the best way to help the lass right now."
Treesong breaths in and out slowly as she is tended to, every so often she seems in pain and then it passes.
Anomen starts to speak "But..." He frowns and goes to the hall leaving Treesong in the infirm.
Angelo watches the squirrel head off and then gets to work trying to help the squirrel maid best he can, herbs gathered and remembering his seasons of healing knowledge is what is going to most likely save this squirrel and the child as well.

---It is the next day, near lunch or just about noon time when Anomen wakes up to news of Treesong---

Many hours has passed and it is now the next day around the lunch hour of noon, the tribal squirrel has gotten very little sleep, but he at least got some sleep and no one disturbed it seems, most likely under orders from the healer in charge at the time. He now starts to stir slightly and wake up. Aug 17, 2014 at noon

Treesong is in one of the cots in the far side of the room and right now is in a mild sort of faint and a healer stays close to her at all times.
Angelo walks over and gently taps Anomen on the shoulder to wake him up, "Hey..hey lad..wake up"

Sykes walks into the room and puts a wet towel on Treesong's head when he sees her laying there. The squirrel is a Stanger, but he doesn't care.

Anomen wakes up and quickly is alert "Treesong..how is she? How is the child? Is both ok?" He notices it’s very light and his eyes go wide "How long have I been here!"
Treesong doesn't make any hint of waking up and may have just a slight fever but won’t be waking any time soon it seems.
Angelo stays calm with all the questions "I did all I could, we now wait to see how she will be, do try to relax as she has had a tough time, and your son is fine..seems healthy, it’s just his mother will need lots of time to fully recover and I am unsure how much." He holds in his arms a small newborn squirrel babe who is right now sleeping and wrapped in a light colored blanket, he goes to gently hand him to Anomen to hold.

Sykes tells Anomen as he stands by, "Sykes, volunteer healer. He is at your service."

Angelo nods to the polecat , "Yes and she will need to be watched carefully, she came near to death, but I managed to help her to not be so close to death and my hope is she recovers...I believe she will but the next couple days will tell us, this was the best place to bring her, you should of brought her sooner but she is here now and that is what is important"

Anomen sighs in worry, he nods slowly to Sykes and holds his son close, "Then I will stay here till she is awake again, I don’t want to leave her side."

Sykes nods to Anomen, "I will bring you up water if you ask." He quickly checks to make sure Treesong is properly supervised.

Angelo nods "You are welcome to stay, but you shouldn’t stay in the infirm the whole time, she will be in good paws here..There is me and Leon as well to help her. Maybe you can join some beasts in the orchards, we are finishing our summer feast today and it may also help lessen your stress as that will just make you ill and your son dos not need both his mother and father ill"

Anomen frowns and then stands holding thee newborn squirrel close "I..just" He stops and goes on " A lot has happen in the last 2-3 weeks and I just don't want to lose her. Less stress would be good..if..if I go will beasts keep me updated on how Treesong is and let me know if she wakes up?"

Sykes nods and calls on a mouse dibbun nearby, "Will you help this fellow over here to keep an eye on that sick squirrel? If you do, I'll get you a handful of candied chestnuts."

Angelo nods "Of course some beast will let you know, but it won’t be any time soon and I am unsure for how long, the good news is the faint is not too deep" He frowns at Sykes, "No dibbuns in the infirm please, we have a couple healer novice that can keep an eye on things thank you"

Sykes chuckles, "All right, Sykes is sorry."

Anomen listens to the news and nods again as he holds his newborn son close, the infant stirs a little and cries softly and so he rocks him till his cries stop and turn to soft sort of cooing sounds.

Angelo goes to talk to a couple healer novices and speaks quietly with them, he then walks back over to the others, " All will be well here and I will even stay here to keep an eye on her as well."

Anomen paces and rocks his newborn son as he listens, "Alright..thank you for helping her, I know she is in good paws here I just tend to worry, like I said a lot has happen in my life recently"

Angelo lays a paw on his shoulder, "Try not to worry too much, too much worry can make a beast ill. Try to relax and trust in the healers here and in the meantime like I said spend some time with some friends if you are able to or..maybe just a place to relax." He smiles at the newborn squirrel as a healer novice hands him a small bottle of a special milk mixture that he hands to Anomen, "Here"

Outside, the sounds of feasting and playing Redwallers can be heard softly, drifting into the quiet stillness of the Infirm. The peace is disturbed, however, when the door to outside is suddenly pushed open and the Friar steps in, speaking to no beast in particular, "Oh my, some peace and quiet at last... I know my feasts are remarkable, but even I need a break from the hubbub now and then..."

Sykes chuckles and tells Lacota, "Hello there. Feel free to rest. “

Anomen takes the small bottle and starts to feed a newborn squirrel he has in his arms, he sits down on one of the empty cots and looks up at a voice that’s familiar to him, "Lacota? " He asks and looks at Sykes oddly but decides to not ask as his attention goes back to Lacota.

Angelo goes to check on Treesong quietly and lets Anomen have some time with his newborn son. The hare also makes sure any herbs he didn’t need are put away and the infirm is still in good order for Leon.

Lacota glances over. "Hmm? Why yes, I am he. Ah, a newborn! No beast mentioned this."

Anomen chuckles slightly, "Lacota, tis me..Anomen" Yeah he looks different as he is tribal leader for the Gawtrybe, "And this is my son, born late this morning"

Lacota hmms, stepping closer to look. "Have you named him yet?"

Anomen shakes his head "No, not yet..a lot has been going on and I brought Treesong here late last night, she is in a faint and I am worried, but I do trust the healers here"

Lacota nods. "I see. I am sure she is fine, lad. Just you wait and see."

Anomen smiles a little. "I..do hope so, I heard there was a feast going on, sorry if I missed it" The newborn has finished with the bottle and now sleeps in Anomen's arms.

Lacota nods again. "Indeed there is. All good beasts are invited. It's been two days already."

Anomen says, "The hare mentioned how maybe I should go to it, but I am unsure"

Lacota says, "If you feel up to it, you're most certainly welcome. At the very least I can have my assistant Brad send up some food for you and Treesong when she wakes."

Anomen glances over at Treesong and back to Lacota "I think I will go over to the feast, calm my nerves some maybe"

Lacota hmms, stepping closer to look. "Have you named him yet?"

Anomen shakes his head "No, not yet..a lot has been going on and I brought Treesong here late last night, she is in a faint and I am worried, but I do trust the healers here"

Lacota smiles. "I think that's a capital idea, lad. It'll do you wonders."

Anomen smiles "I think I will" He then heads that way

--To The Orchards--

Anomen walks in quietly, he is carrying something in his arms and glances at all the beasts here at the feast.

Ree waves to Anomen and bustles to see if any more food is forthcoming.

Lacota eventually makes an appearance. "Well, hello again every beast. Things are still going well, I trust?"

Anomen sits down in a chair, he is not with anyone from his tribe it seems.

Flicktail looks over and sits down a wooden table he belt, made of solid wood planks with benches along side "Here is a place to set some food Lacota”

Ree tells Lacota, "Jokko looks like he's going to be a scoff tub again, so perhaps you should hurry." He goes over to Anomen, "Please wait a moment...Winder's coming with the drinks."

Lacota shakes his head. "Lad, the food is already served..." He inspects the table. "This will do quite nicely, though..."

Flicktail smiles proudly as beasts arrive with more of his tables...for food and beasts to sit at

Anomen looks over at Flicktail as he holds something close to him, he doesn’t speak to any beast yet.

Flicktail glances at Anomen, standing on his tippy paws trying to see what the squirrel has.

Lacota hmms. "Anyway, do eat as much as you beasts want."

Ree takes a smoked fish and hands it to Flicktail, while he grabs a large bowl of carrot dumpling stew and sits next to him.

Anomen has yet to get up, he seems worried about something and then it becomes very clear what he holds as loud wailing is suddenly hear and he blinks and looks down trying to calm a very small newborn squirrel "Shhhh...it is ok..it is"

Flicktail's muzzle drops open, TWO new dibbuns in one day, his head swims as he is on dibbun overdose "Oh..ohhhhh oh Anomen...may I see may I see? LOOK Look Ree, Jokko, Lacota...another new dibbun!”

Winder grumbled and put down the rest of the drinks, then came over to the tiny baby to stroke it, "Its fine, and its fine."

Lacota crosses his arms. "I already saw him earlier, sir."

Flicktail smiles to Lacota "I can make more tables if you like those....they are nice for eating outside”

Anomen looks at Flicktail as the newborn calms again "hello Flicktail, he was born just this morning, he doesn’t have a name yet"

Flicktail knows better then to approach a protective pappa beast without invitation first and he continues to adore the small little package "he looks so...purrrrfect”

Winder gets back to serving drinks, hoping nobody saw him have a soft spot. Ree, meanwhile, is munching his soup in the shade of a tree, "Are you going to try some of this, Flick...squirrel fellow?"

Flicktail reaches a paw over blindly to true some of what Winder has... hos paw grasping at the ear searching as he smiles overcome by cuteness

Anomen nods and frowns some "Treesong is in the infirm, but she is not doing that well but an Angelo assured me she would be ok and I trust the healers here"

Lacota nods. "She'll be fine."

Winder's rough voice tells Flicktail, "That is not a drink, that is my ear."

Flicktail was just about to put Winder's ear in his moth when he blinks and tears his eyes away to look at Winder "wha? oh...um aye..sorry....where's the drink?

Anomen speaks "You should be careful Flicktail"

Winder hands Flicktail a cold rosehip tea, "Please remember I would not have known until too late that you bit off my ear. Please do consider leaving the child be long enough to have the smoked fish and soup Ree left you?"

Lacota nods as well. "Indeed, sir. Eat. Now."

Flicktail nods and gets the fish on a pewter plate and the soup in a Pewter mug, along with the drink and sits down "Sorry about that ever beast it's just dibbuns are SOOOOOO cute!”

Anomen rocks his now sleeping son and looks around at the feast grounds, "This all looks..all nice and stuff, wish knew of it sooner"

acute smiles. "Why thank you, Anomen. I put in a lot of hard work to prepare this."

Ree goes and gives Anomen a sugarplum, "Yes, sorry that no one told you earlier."

Flicktail tucks into the fish and soup truing it, and eating with gusto "I will have a guard placed on Treesong with instructions to send word to you if anything changes Anomen friend" He munches at fish and soup

Anomen nods and smiles, he keeps his son close to him "Thank You Flicktail..I should probably eat something I have not ate since this time yesterday"

Ree serves Winder the carrot dumpling soup also, then goes to sit with Flicktail. Jokko has terrorized half the table, grabbing several salads and types of bread willy-nilly.

A good number of beasts are here to eat as a novice makes sure Jokko doesn’t take too much of the food as there needs to be enough for others as well.

Lacota hmms. "Has Lee seen your son yet, Anomen?"

Anomen shakes his head "No, just the healers, you and well a couple beasts here"

Ree peeks at Anomen, "Son, mister? I didn't even see him. Also, I am Ree...I'm staying here a while."

Flicktail says, “Soup needs some more hot root maybe”

Lacota shakes his head. "It has quite enough hotroot, thank you very much sir."

Anomen smiles as some beast gets him some food, he looks down at his newborn seeming unsure whether to place him down or not, the food is place on the table in front of him and some drink also.

Flicktail blink blinks "Lacota this is YOUR carrot dumpling and onion broth soup...oh You are QUITE right..it is Just right I am sure I would have just ruined it”

Ree sniffs something he likes with his burnt nose and walks towards it, picking up and smiling in an inadvertently unnerving manner, "Another molasses tart, Lacota?"

Lacota says, "Have as many as you please."

Ree munches it, "I meant to ask if it was one."

Anomen seems unwilling to place the infant down, but he does have to eat, "W..Where can I place my son and does any beast know a good name?"

The Gawtrybe had become smaller since the retaking of Redwall Abbey, about half the size it use to be but Anomen was a good leader and had learned a lot in the short 3 weeks since then as he looks over the tribe he stands in front of.

Anomen glances over at Treesong and back to Lacota "I think I will go over to the feast, calm my nerves some maybe"

Anomen smiles "I think I will" He then heads that way

Flicktail looks up "oh..oh Anomen..may...may i hold im just alittle/ I promiseto be REAL careful"

Lacota shakes his head. "If it's a name you are wanting... I suggest Lacota... It's a good name, you know."

Anomen manages a chuckle, he looks at Flicktail "Umm..he was JUST born a few hours ago"

Flicktail nod nods "Aye....me fur is soft and warm and Lacota IS a fine name..but so is Acorn....a smallseed that grows into a powerul big strong tree "

Anomen seems to be thinking deeply, first he decides to hold the dibbun in one arm and then use his free paw to eat as he tries to think on a good name for his newborn son.
