A Chat in the library (A Redwall log) 4-14-2016

RW Abbey: Library

The library has never looked better in seasons as shelves have been

repaired and so have tables and chairs. The once empty sleeves now

have more books in them and not only that the books are in an ABC

order and arranged by subject to better find what one is looking for.

The beautifully crafted windows are well cleaned.

This gives the library plenty of light during the daylight hours. The

room has a high vaulted ceiling. The flagstones of the floor are cool

and smooth, and echoes are sometimes heard when beasts walk. Brass

lamps containing short, fat little white candles provide enough light

for reading. Some books are still being mended but being working on

getting on the shelves. The backroom is even very clean and organized

as well. Books were found in the attic and some from Ferravale were

added that the Ferravale beast had maybe two copies of something so

gave Redwall one of the copies for the Redwall library, all in all a

lot of hard work has done wonders for the library.

On an Oakwood desk is the charter laying inside a clear glass case for

all to see. The glass case keeps it safe and clean. Some other chairs

large and small, wooden and soft, have been placed in varies places

in the library and a pile of covers and blankets sit in one corner

with a few pillows as well.

Abbey Charter

Badgers: Zinnia, female.

Mice: DoraRose, female.

Hedgehogs: Stonepaw, male.

Foxes: Juliana, female.

Zinnia has been busy the past couple days reading some of the abbey logs from the rest of fall and winter. She has also added her own logs from her trip, as well as her own summary of what's happen while she was away. She is just now adding some very recent news she has heard.

DoraRose enters the library, carrying a pile of books that she had borrowed. "Oh, hi, Zinnia. I hope your day is going well." She walks over the table and sets the books down.

Zinnia nods "I was just updating the logs. Guess we got back just in time for a big change to happen"

Stonepaw being in the library is a rare sight. He idly picks up a book and glances at the cover before sitting it back down. He looks over at the familiar beasts, about the only familiar beasts in this whole place. "'Ello ya two"

DoraRose nods at what the badger says. "Aye. I....don't remember if we were here before Magramba and Flicktail left. It's been quite the surprise to me." She starts returning the books she had borrowed back to their shelves just as the hedgehog enters. "Oh, hello, Stonepaw. I hope your day is going well."

Zinnia says, "I don't remember " She sees the hedgehog and smiles "I have not seen you in a while, thought maybe you headed back to the western shore"

Stonepaw shakes his head "No lass not yet, I be getting supplies and heading off here within the next day or two. Sort of missed me boat checked on her and she be fine, or least was earlier today"

DoraRose smiles and puts the last book on the shelf. "I'm glad to hear it. You didn't have any trouble on the way back, did you? I hear that there's a maniac on the loose out there." She decides to not mention that Cerah (Blisa's guard) had said that the maniac is Zurrgg.

Zinnia frowns, but she lets the hedgehog go ahead and answer the question as she places some written logs back in a good order to be put away.

Stonepaw asks, "On de way back here? No I did not, even those weasel things were not around, which I seen as a good sign."

DoraRose smiles and nods as she sits down at the table. "That's great!" she pulls her journal out of her pocket, opens it, and looks at something. "I made a to-do list, but now I've lost it...."

Zinnia looks curious "A to-do list for what?"

Stonepaw nods "I usually just keep things in me mind, I remember things fairly well ya see. So I should be back by de sea in a weeks time with me boat"

"A list of things I needed to do today..." Dora mutters as she shuts her diary. "I hope your journey is safe, but I must say that I at least will miss having you here."

Zinnia smiles "I am sure your find it, maybe someone else has seen it even. I say not to worry too much on finding the list right away and maybe even ask like Angela if she has seen it or not"

Stonepaw says, "I be sure it will be fine. Travel by water be de best way to travel I say, and the boat is even me home too so I am never far from home one can say"

DoraRose sighs, but then decides to take the Recorder's advice and slips her journal back into her pocket. Grinning, she says to the hedgehog, "That is a good point. But don't you ever get tired of constantly floating?" She thinks she would.

Zinnia tilts her head "You ok Dorarose? You seem a little bit too worried about a list"

Stonepaw grins "I love the water and thar be plenty of fish, watercress, I seen apple trees along the river also and thats good in fall time."

DoraRose is in 2 conversations at once; it's mildly confusing. "Um..." she shakes her head and rubs her temple, where there is some faint scarring that can be seen. "Er, I'm sorry, I've gotten a little confused. I didn't sleep very well last night, so I'm having trouble concentrating."

Zinnia asks "Anything I can help with or...well you want to talk about it? I learned talking helps with most things anyways"

Stonepaw frowns "Oh...I...sorry lass. Didn't mean ta confuse ya...anyways I should get going anyways....I will send ya a letter" And he rushes off leaving the two to talk or what ever.

"No, you don't have...ooops." Rose sits back down and rubs her head. Smiling slightly, she peeks at the Recorder and shakes her head. "No, I'm not sure anything can help. You see these scars? They're what's left of when I got a severe hit to the head quite a few seasons back. Ever since then, my memory and concentration skills haven't been nearly as good as they could be."

Zinnia says, "Oh...sorry. I don't think I would like to forget anything, even though I thought it was the best thing one time. I found it wasn't the best thing, remembering things and even the not so good times is part of life"

DoraRose nods and sighs sadly. "I....I'm even having trouble remembering whta my parents looked like, or what their voices sounded like....or even what my little sister sounded like. It does seem sometimes to be a good thing, but most of the time, it's not...." She sighs again, then smiles. "Maybe someday I'll remember again..."

Zinnia frowns "Oh...well sometimes one can forget a voice if it's been a while I think that can be normal"

DoraRose nods and scuffs the floor with her foot. "I also forget things I'm wanting or needing to do. That's why I'm so upset about losing my to-do list; I can't remember what I wrote down on it, so I'm not sure of what I need to do. I can remember some of the things, but not all of them."

Zinnia hmmms "Maybe backtrack your steps, like where all you went today maybe, would that help?"

DoraRose bites her lip as she thinks. "....maybe. It'd be worth a shot. I think I know where all I've been today...." She stands...and a little slip of paper falls to the floor from her lap.

Zinnia looks at the paper and points "Is that it or is that something else?"

DoraRose bends down and eagerly picks up the paper. "This is it! Thank heavens!" She sits back down and stuffs the paper into her pocket, where it belongs. "Thank you so much, Zinnia. If you hadn't suggested that I retrace my steps, I might not have found it for a few hours! You're brilliant!" She goes to give the badger a very excited and happy hug.

Zinnia smiles as she allows the hug and returns one as well "Well I am glad I was helpful then. So have you settled back into the abbey well since we been back. I think I have, and I have talked to almost everyone I felt needed talked to"

DoraRose nods and gets more comfortable on her chair. "Yeah, I think I have. I spent the first week or so as by myself as I could; the sudden influx of beasts into my life was a bit on the stressful side for me. But now I'm used to it again, so it's a lot better now. Did you....have you talked to Oz yet?"

Zinnia nods "Yeah, I did and my uncle Zee briefly but I am unsure where Zee is"

Juliana is bored and has wandered away from her new room and comes into the library and stares at the two beasts in here. Her paws are folded in front of her as she stays quiet.

DoraRose nods, then notices the Dibbun fox. "Well, hello there," she says in her Sweet Mommy Voice. "Where'd you come from, honey?"

Zinnia waves to Juliana "Hello." She looks to Dora. "I think her name is Juliana, she is Rayen and Flicktail's daughter..." Ok let's make sure as she looks to the fox cub "Right?"

Juliana nods slowly but she doesn't speak and smiles.

DoraRose smiles and gets down on the floor. Sitting criss-cross-applesauce, she asks, "Can you tell me how old you are? How many seasons?" She adds in a murmur to the badger, "She got big since we were last here..."

Zinnia nods "She was...born around then I think, when we left or bout same time. I do remember and round same time as......."She stops here and is quiet, she clears her throat "Well.....yeah"

Juliana just smiles and holds up one finger, she does know how old she is she just isn't speaking.

DoraRose hmms and goes to pat the Recorder's paw. She understands what she's trying to get at. "Hey, Juliana, do you know any words?" She asks cheerfully.

Zinnia manages a small smile and brushes some dust off her robes.

Juliana watches her quietly and just stays silent. Well she isn't speaking it seems.

DoraRose hmms. "Hey, Zinn, do you have a book we could read to her? Like, a picture book or something?" She then asks the little fox, "Hey, would you like to hear a story??"

Zinnia hmms "I am not sure, I think the dibbun books are in the dibbun dorm. Sister...yeah Sister Ginny reads to them"

DoraRose watches the Dibbun leave. "Or she could leave...that works too." Staying seated on the floor, the mouse turns so she is facing the badger again. "But how've you been since we came back to the Abbey?" She asks, returning to their previous subject.

Zinnia chuckles , she nods "I ...been ok. I was a little sad yes but that's normal I mean there is still memories"

DoraRose nods understandingly. "But do you feel like everybody's happy to see you?" She asks gently.

Zinnia nods "I...will admit at first I was unsure, I thought maybe some hated me. But I found out none did they mine and they ARE glad I am back"

DoraRose grins. "That's wonderful," she says soothingly. Her smile then fades, and she sighs as she looks at the far wall. "I wish I knew what to do for my daughter...I fear that what I do, and what my grandmother has suggested, might not be enough of a help for her...."

Zinnia has yet to really hear, "Why...what's wrong? I know there was some sort of trouble or something"

Dora proceeds to tell the Recorder about Lily having the Bloodwrath and attacking Cynthia...although she refrains from mentioning how LilyMoore should've been banished, according to the old Abbey rules.
