12.22.08 - I Wanted To Be Like You (Jakk's Capture - Part I)

From Redwall MUCK Wiki

Location: Redwall Gatehouse

Characters Involved: Darklett, Jakk

For the better part of a few seasons Jakk has basically been broken off from his family - which means that he has not really been present to see his little brother grow into the bouncing, active toddler that he is today. Still, if the brunette regretted it, no one would hear about it. There's not much to hear from the young buck lately anyways, so he goes about his duties as he should - which eventually has him traveling back from the 67th on his own to the abbey. The gatehouse is his first stop to drop off any weaponry that isn't necessary within the walls of the sanctuary.

As luck would have it, Darklett was just about to go to the 67th himself, and is thus picking up some weaponry that he'd like to take with him for the trip. He stops a few short steps inside, closing the door behind him. Should he say something? "Jakk," he greets, and decides to leave it at that for now, heading towards where he'd been keeping his weapons nice and safe.

Generally the two dark bucks don't act like they are friends, let alone related, so this kind of encounter is normal for them. When the sound of his father's voice reaches his ears, the fighter glances back towards Darklett with both ears twitching into a perked position. Something of a smirk is offered in return to the major before Jakk glances away again, saying nothing at first as he shrugs off the hidden knife holster that rests in the pit of his arm alongside his ribs. Once he begins to slide his tunic back on is when the teen looks to the officer again. ".. hey." He tries weakly.

Family has to check up on family. "How've you been?" Darklett grabs his belt out of his super secret hidden spot in the corner of one of the shelves behind some usually untouched, shoddily-created sabers and rapiers. He keeps his on the ground as he works on tucking his uniform tunic into his trousers.

Oh, the awe-inspiring conversations of Jakk and Darklett - except that the younger buck seems to be a little more interested in his father this time. His gaze lingers on him, anyway, instead of just ignoring him and trying to get out of the gatehouse as quickly as possible. "I've been decent." Jakk offers, before he tries carefully for a question. ".. how's mom and Caleb?"

Darklett looks up, although he's facing the corner of the gatehouse, so the surprise or nervousness is probably lost on Jakk. Good thing. "Good. They're actually really good." Darklett nods, turning and reaching down to the floor for his belt, with depleted throwing knives in it. "Caleb's... Still getting the hang of running around and being a toddler, heh. Mom's enjoying herself here at Redwall, though." Dark knows this is gonna lead to an awkward silence followed by a 'seeya later.' He just knows it.

The buck nods his head, showing his acknowledgement of this statement as his ears flicker backward somewhat. "That's good. I know.. mom always liked the more.. peaceful kind of atmosphere." Jakk rolls his shoulder as he nods again and then looks down at his hands. This is harder than one would ever expect it to be, but somehow it is how their lives have worked out. Finally his hazel eyes seek out Darklett again. ".. how're you then?"

Again, the shock. But Darklett at least keeps a straight face, regardless of whether his motions stop or not. "Aside from a couple injuries, not bad at all. Typical, you know. Can't complain." The last half-sentence is delivered with a bit of a laugh, eyes locking up with a smile to Jakk, though a hint of sadness is still there. "...Coming from the 67th?"

"Yeah." Jakk actually has a bit of a smile on his muzzle as well, though it does hold a bit of sadness just as his father's gaze does. Soon he is nibbling on his lower lip while his ears sink more. "Yeah. I'm actually off-duty right now." He rubs the butt of his palm into his forehead while he smirks at something quietly before dropping his hand as his brows lift. "I guess that's where you're going."

"Yeah, figured I'd head over there and try and get some training in. Haven't in too long." Darklett looks hesitant, though. "Kind of blindsided by how dark it gets, and how quickly around here. I don't know if I should risk the walk with how hostile the road's been lately."

This seems to amuse the private as he goes to begin doing up his tunic front again while shaking his head. "Not like you couldn't take care of yourself." Jakk sighs out tiredly as he leaves the rest undone - showing his undershirt - as he goes to lean down and heft his bag back up onto his shoulder, now that it won't be getting in the way.

"You just never know when you'll run into ten of 'em at once. It's cold... There are a lot of really desperate vermin out there, apparently." Darklett shrugs. If it's not evident that he'd only be staying to have another shot at connecting with Jakk, it should be soon.

For a moment Jakk kind of just watches the adult, as if trying to read him, one hand hooked onto the strap of his bag where it rests on his shoulder. Finally he speaks again, in a dry sort of manner - as if he is not used to offering assistance. ".. well.. you know.. I could go with you if you're that worried."

Hm. This isn't initially what he was going for, but... Well. Darklett pauses. At this point it's feigning hesitation. "...If you don't mind, then sure. Think I'd like that." He tries not to smile more than would be considered normal. "I'll talk to whoever I need to talk to if you're not back in time to go on duty again." See? Major-dad can have perks, Jakk.

The other buck nods and goes to recollect the weapons that he just dropped off - since he figures on just staying over at the 67th again until he is back on duty, which will save him on travel time. "I don't have anything else to do anyway." He states while going to belt on what needs to stay in place while he walks.
