Mossflower Woods: Willow Grove
William had left a note on the hall table in Moledeep saying he'd be at Redwall for most of the day however the rat's trip up to the Abbey hadn't been as pleasant has he'd hoped it would be and shortly after returning home he had come out to the willow grove to think. The rat sits beneath the great willow tree at the far end of the open grove of trees, a fine new wooden wagon beside him that he'd brought from the Abbey.
Amethyst had followed Will out to the grove. Being both illiterate and blind she's never been in the habit of leaving notes nor would she if she could in this case. She sits in her chair near Will and plays with a nearby drooping branch of leaves as she hums to herself as she is often wont to do.
William had rose to his feet upon seeing the otter and was about to move Amy and himself out of the way and maybe make use of his sling against the otter, fellow explorer or not. When the otter's arm drops the rat keeps his position at the blind maid's side glaring at the their 'guest'. "Talking," he growls in answer to Theo's question. "Do you have a problem with that?!" Will wasn't in the best of moods as it was and the otter isn't helping.
Theophilus shakes his head, still grinning, "Naw, I was just going to test out this javelin I made. Been workin' on it all afternoon," he looks to the rat-maid, "I don't believe I've seen you round here, young miss, what's your name?"
Amethyst's ears had turned toward the new voice and her face follows to try and pin point where the voice is coming from. "I've had many names over the seasons but most aren't worth mentioning or in most circles repeatable. Around /here/ I'm know as Amethyst. Now what are you and why were you going to throw spears or whatever where I am to be married in two seasons time?" The blind ,chair bound, maid looks sternly at nothingness in the otter's vague direction though inwardly she finds this somewhat amusing.
William relaxes a little when the otter doesn't show any sign that he may do them any harm but remains standing, well leaning, against the broad tree trunk of the giant willow tree behind him. "There are many other places you could test your weapons at. This isn't really one of them." The rat's voice is calmer now but none too kind.
"I'm an otter, and my name's Theophilus," Theo says, walking closer to Amy. He then looks at Will, "It seemed like the most convenient spot, close to Moledeep, and no beast near, or so I thought."
Amethyst is less pleased now and it shows plainly on her face. "Another otter. .... When did we move to waterdog land? I forget. And sounds like somebeast needs to rewrite th rules so there will be no throwing of spears in my grove."
William gives Amy an annoyed look and says, "Don't say /that/ and this isn't your grove. I don't think it really belongs to anybeast anymore but even so it's still not /yours/."
Theophilus nods, "Thank you William, I was just about to say the same thing meself, but I'd be happy to quit throwin' /javelins/ if you'd ask."
Amethyst sighs, "Fine." She smiles and turns her attention from the otter back toward Will. "Though I recall Kentar said I didn't have to listen to you, Billy. Of course Kentar has also proved he isn't one to listen to on such matters," she says sweetly.
Theophilus picks up his javelin and starts to examine the point. "I think I'll go and sharpen up this summore," he says, "Well I'll see you two." Theo walks to the other end of the grove opposite to the two rats, and disappears into the trees.
William smirks a little, "You just figured that out?" He nuzzles her a little and whispers something to her waving a little at the departing otter.
Amethyst smirks a little and pushes Will away playfully, "Don't!" She laughs a little then turns her chair back the way they had come, "We should head back. Don't want Aik to come looking for us. And I'm sure he wouldn't approve of what you just said."
William grins and nods, "Probably not but th seasons more than half over ... Winter's nearly here." He catches the back of the maid's chair stopping her so he can lean over the top of it to kiss her on the head, "In less then a half season I'll be an adult. Pa'll just have to accept that."
Amethyst closes her eyes as the top of her head is kissed, "Mmm. Well I don't think that's the part he'll have a problem with as much as ... other things. You're very silly," she raises a paw to stroke his face, "and handsome. Don't forget th twins' wagon."
William lightly grasps her paw and kisses it before letting her go. "I take after my father," he jokes before walking back across the knotted roots of the great willow to retrieve the wagon. He guides it around the tree's roots, "This'll be a lot of help this season and next one too. Hope Chris'll let th twins use it." He gives the wagon another once over, "It's plenty big enough. ... Hmm think you might even fit in it, maybe. Enough room for both you and Chris in it if you squished a bit ... ok a lot. Don't think he'd like that though," he chuckles.
Amethyst grins, "I hope not. I've seen your father. I'm sure he's very nice looking for an otter but I don't wish to marry an otter. And as much as I love Chris I am not his thing to sit on. Besides I doubt you'd be able to pull both of us in the wagon and I'm not letting Aik pull me in it either. With luck I won't have any reason to sit in that wagon." Amy thinks a moment and corrects herself, "... That is with Chris."
William laughs loudly at this, having caught up to the maid. "With Chris. Oh, did we think of a reason, hmm? I can think of one but I don't think it'd work too well coming back since I'm not sure I can carry you and pull a full wagon at the same time," he teases.
Amethyst chuckles, "I don't think so but I'm sure you'd try it anyway."
