Characters involved: Ralai, Taye, & Rahier.
Salamandastron: Infirmary
Ralai walks into the infirmary wondering who was in here because he heard voices seeing the two seys "hello sirs"
Taye pauses in the doorway before entering the room, apparently looking for someone. He glances from the row of cots towards the open door leading to the herb room, and back, scanning the area. For whom? Well, Rahier of course. Where else would a healer and a major be other than working? Tch.
Ah ha. Well. I guess we have to be working, then. ;p Working hard at hardly working. Whistle. The healer bumps his way out of the open door to the herb room, waving a paw in front of his scrunched nose. Doubtlessly brewing some kind of new remedy, that, like most others, doesn't smell too great. He casts an eye to the idle infirmary, expecting to find the usual vacancies, but hey, there's Taye. He turns more toward the recruit, cracking a smile. "Allo."
Ralai walks into the infirmary wondering who was in here because he heard voices seeing the two says "hello sirs"
Taye smiles at the appearance of Rah, but it's a short-lived one. It then dissolves into nervousness, and the shuffling of footpaws. Hee. But, ah! There's a distraction - Ralai. Turning 'round and then stepping aside to be out of the badger's way, he nods a greeting. "'Llo, sah."
Rahier surveys this shuffling and general nervousness, slipping on that 'what is it...' expression. Taye's not like.. a book, or anything. At least until Ralai appears. He raises a brow at the badger, looking a little bemused. "...Hello. Can I... help you?"
Ralai says, "i just heard voices and wondered who it was sir"
Taye opts to be helpful, and so nods his head towards Ralai, for Rahier's sake. "He arrived yestahday, t' visit with us fer a bit." He does catch the "what is it?" expression but waits to explain, for the moment. Ralai, and all.
Rahier grins. "Well, it's jus' me an' m'boy." He indicates Taye with some nodding of his head, leaning back against his desk. "Yesterday, ah? Welcome t'th'mountain, then. This's m'infirmary." Another grin. Ahem. He crosses his arms. "If y'wanna look aroun' some, be m'guest."
Ralai bows saying "thank you,my name a ralai by the way"
Taye grins as he watches the badger, obviously impressed by the rather large type of beast. Buuuut... eventually his attention slips back to Rahier, and he continues over to him. Mrr. He pokes a boot-tip at the leg of one of the cots. "Da', c'n I ask ya somethin'?"
Rahier tips an ear to the badger. "Sure. Nice t'meetcha, Ralai, 'm Major Rahier." He gives another smile, before turning a bit to Taye's approach. He tilts his head at the recruit. "Mus' be important t'bring y'in here," he says. "What is it?"
Ralai decides to move to give them a bit more privacy going near the herb closet to see what herbs are in there
Might as well get right to it. "D'ya mind if'n I go on the next mission t' Halyard?" As he asks, he fluctuates between looking at Rahier, looking at the floor, and glancing at Ralai.
Rahier watches Ralai for a moment, before looking back to Taye. He frowns, a bit, at this request, but considers it. "Major Jarril's goin', I'd guess?" He unfolds his arms, placing them back against the deck edge, speaking quietly. "Why is it y'wanna go..?"
Taye nods, quickly. "Yes, sah. Majah Jarril's goin'." At the next question, he shrugs and lowers his gaze to the ground. "Well... it's Halyard 'n' all."
Ralai wanders about the room looking at things
Rahier looks toward Ralai again.. hrm. We wouldn't want him breaking something. After all, he is rather large. XD Ahem. Well. He watches Taye. Hm. The major reaches out, touching Taye's chin to bid him look up once more. "Are y'sure that's it?"
Taye lifts his head as directed, but quickly looks off to the side and away. However, the sudden reflective quality to his eyes should give the fact away that that wasn't it. He swallows past the sudden lump in his throat, but his voice is still thick when he responds. "One o' the othah recruits was... was taken in the last mission."
Ralai wanders back over to the herb stores seeming to like it there best
Rahier frowns at the jerk-away, withdrawing his hand. Of course, he waits for the explanation, the small pencil-frown remaining. "Ahh..." he says, quietly. "One o' y'friends..?" The major sighs, a bit. "Well, y'know... a man has t'do what he has t'do, an' if this is somethin' y'gotta do.." He reaches out, to place a paw on Taye's shoulder, "Who'm I t'stand in y'way?" The paw gives a small squeeze.
Ralai hmms "speaking of halyard sirs, where might i find sir oxeye?"
The squeeze to Taye's shoulder is just too much sympathy for him to withstand, and a single tear escapes and rolls down his cheek. He quickly jerks a fisted paw up and smudges it away, looking both embarrassed and frustrated as he does so. He does manage to keep any wavering out of his voice, though. "It's just somethin' I gotta do." His words echo Rahier's. This is his way of saying thanks, of course. He takes a step back, still not trusting himself to look at the other buck. Instead, he glances around, suddenly more embarrassed at the thought of Ralai having seen that. His eyes search 'til he finds the badger absorbed over by the herb stores. Good.
Rahier looks to Ralai, and shrugs slightly.. the 'dunno'. Heh. "Y'could try downstairs..." A bit of a hint. Y'know, Taye and all. Of course, Taye is all stepped back, so Rah folds his paws over his lap. "It'll be dangerous." In respect to his embarrassment, Rah settles for giving Taye a pat on his arm. "I know y'got heart, but you'll have t'keep your wits aboutcha.. an' stick with th'Major."
Ralai getting the hint walks towards the doors saying "thank you sirs"
Slowly managing to pull himself together, Taye nods, though he waits a few more seconds before responding. "... Yes, sah. Majah Jarril already gave me permission t' go, with the consideration that ya said yes, o' course. I promise I'll stay with 'im."
Rahier puts his own gaze down to the floor, lowering his arm. He picks at a finger for a moment, somewhat mirroring Taye's earlier behavior. "Jus'.. well.." Impulsively, he stands from his spot, and reaches to give the recruit a hug. "Jus' be careful, okay? If y'can do that.. y've got m'yes."
The usual complaint isn't voiced as Rah hugs him. In fact, Taye hugs him back - hard. He turns his head so that his cheek rests on the other buck's shoulder, and just stares off in a rather unhappy manner. Growing pains. "I wish it didn't have t' happen at all..." The buck sighs and pulls back from the hug, once again kicking his boot-tip at a cot leg. Rrr.
Rahier holds Taye in the hug, patting the back of his head a bit consolingly. "Yeh.. I know." He's said so much himself in events of yore, even. "But if it didn't, nobody'd need us." Small smile. "But there'll always be baddish types about.. an' we'll be there on th'cause o' righ'."
Taye doesn't seem to mind the continued hug, and Rah's words seem to be soothing him. He's not breaking down in tears, anyway. Heh. More glum staring ensues. "I know... I jus' wish the vermin'd see that it's righ' 'n' go away." Another simply huge sigh issues forth, but then he apparently thinks to add something. Much quieter, he says, "It was Miyrr."
Rahier might have guessed. Y'know, with the whole.. reaction. And all. He nods his head, looking past to the far wall. "That doe, righ'?" This is hugely rhetorical, of course. We well know. ;p "'M sure she's allrigh', she seemed like she's got a good head on her shoulders. Y'can bring her back." He smiles now, slightly, and opens a bit of distance between them.
Shuffling his footpaws a bit bashfully now that there's distance between them, Taye manages a small-ish smile. "Thanks fer... y'know." Shuffle-shuffle. "And I'm gonna try m'best."
Well... we can give the classic mood-lifter. The hair ruffle. XD Rah reaches out with a paw, and does just that. "Any time, kiddo. I know y'will." Rah grins. "Y'went an' grew up on me all fast-like, y'did." He leans back against his desk once more. "When're y'leavin'?"
Taye grins at the having grown up bit, despite the situation. "'M not sure... Guess that depends on what the colonels decide." Taye's brow wrinkles. "What're you goin' t' be doin' durin' the mission, Da'?"
Rahier crosses his arms, shaking his head. "'M in th'same boat... whatever Zoe orders me t'do, I s'pose." At length, he shrugs. "I had plenty o' adventures afore I earned this badge, I'll tell y'what." Half-grin.
Taye looks up at Rahier skeptically, having a hard time imagining his dad out on patrol. "What sort o' adventahs?"
Rahier laughs. ;p "Don't look so skeptic, I was a lowly healer once, y'know." He shakes his head, still chuckling. "Oh, y'know. Walkin' th'shores, slayin' vermin, burnin' up their fort, th'standard fare."
The skeptic is now suitably impressed. "Ya slayed vermin, Da'?" Apparently he'd never thunk. Hee.
Rahier coughs out a laugh. "Oh, yeh, hordes o' em." He reaches out to poke at one of Taye's ears. "An' it happened t'land me in this room f'-quite- a long time, so don' even think 'bout tryin' it y'self. 'Specially since -I'd- be treatin' you."
Taye's left ear droops at this thought. In the infirmary? For a long time, and with the bloody? No. Being treated by Rah pales in comparison. "... Righ', well, I won't try slayin' any vermin, then." Heh.
Rahier grins. "That's m'boy." Hehe. He looks to the rest of the regrettably empty infirmary, then back to Taye. "Whatcha say we go'n grab some grub, eh?"
Taye looks around, as well. It is rather empty-ish. He gives a nod and turns towards the door, looking remarkably better-spirited already. "Sounds good t' me." Grin.
Rahier chuckles. "Nowt t'do when nobody's gettin' ill.. s'good f'everyone, 'specially me." He walks up behind Taye, placing a paw on the younger buck's opposite shoulder. "Let's do tha', then." With a similar grin, he walks on out with the other.
