Characters involved: Terrance & Taye.
Salamandastron: Level Two
Through the door leading to the training room walks a particularly tired looking Terrance. The recruit is rubbing at the temple with the swirel of fur over it as he pauses and looks around at all the different doors. Great. Which way was it back to the dorms?
Terrance is in luck, because Taye is just exiting the dormitory hallway. From the looks of him, he's got a day-old shiner on his right eye. He doesn't take immediate notice of Terrance, but as he looks up to decide which way he's going, he notices the other buck and his rather confused look. "... 'Ey, need help with anythin'?"
Terrance glances towards Taye as he comes out into the hall, particularly interested in the mark on his right eye. When Taye greets him, the younger hare gives a quick 'oops' expression at catching himself staring and then nods, "Aye chap. Could ya direct me in the way o' the dormatorys? I just got done with a bit of extra practice and I'm still learnin' my way around the mountain."
Taye jerks a thumb over his shoulder in the direction he just came. "Ya new? 'Tis just there."
Terrance glances in the way of the thumb then looks looks back towards Taye, giving a few nervous chuckles, "Uh, yeah. Just arrived here a couple o' weeks ago." Boy, that was an interesting first couple of days. "I'm Terrance, fighter recruit" he says, offering out a paw.
Taye steps forward to accept the offered paw, which he shakes. A small grin surfaces. "Good t' meetcha. Taye - runnah recruit."
Terrance smiles back and releases Taye's paw. "Runnah eh? 'Aven't met too many o' those types in my classes so far."
"Fightah's more popular," Taye concedes with a shrug. "We've also got different classes, mostly. Ya'd prob'ly jus' see us in combat class 'n' general lessons."
Terrance nods, "Aye, yer probably right. Anyhow, hard to see anyone with most o' the other fightahs being a good head or more taller then me." A paw comes up to rub his arm a bit, "Makes for a hard time durin' the combat class that's for sure."
Taye's ears droop at this comment, and he lifts a paw self-consciously to his blacked eye. "... Yeah." The word comes out more as a commiserating sigh than anything.
Terrance glances back towards the eye in question, "So take it that is where that came from then?" The younger buck shrugs and says, "Nice to know that I'm not the only one who has troubles in there. That's why I was gettin' in some extra practice. Figure I need all I can get, being the youngest fightah recruit." He glances around the hall some, "So 'ow long have you been 'ere?"
Taye refrains from mentioning that he got the black eye during one such extra training session. Eh heh. Rubbing awkwardly at the back of his neck, he shrugs. "Been 'ere since I was little. Few seasons now, I guess." He gives Terrance a curious look. "How'd you end up here?"
Terrance nods at Taye's reply. "I came 'ere from a village that's not too far south o' 'ere, Treeshore is its name. Anyway, both o' my parents had wanted to join the patrol but couldn't cause o' some injuries they had gotten when they were kids. So I guess that just rubbed off on me growin' up and 'ere I am."
Taye nods, with a look of vague recognition at the name of his village. "So where are yer parents now? Still back at yer village?" He gives a thoughtful frown, not quite able to imagine just up and leaving home like that.
Terrance nods, "Aye, they took me 'ere then we said goodbye and they headed back home. I wanted ta just come here myself but they insisted on comin' along." He gives a shrug and frowns a bit, "After all, a patrol fightah shouldn't need to me escorted by his parents."
Taye gives the younger recruit an odd look. After all, at seven seasons he's to the point where he can look at Terrance and consider him just barely out of dibbunhood. Which makes this comment coming from him seem rather strange. "... Well, yer just a recruit 'n' all. If ya didn't still need trainin' 'n' learnin', ya'd be a full-blown patrol 'are already 'n' no need t' come t' the mountain fer trainin' a'tall." He shrugs. "... 'Tis good t' have more experienced folks about, s'all."
Terrance shuffles his foot paws a little and looks towards the ground, "Well yeah. That makes sense 'n all I suppose. An' my parents said something like the same thing." He says with a shrug. The hare then lets out a pretty wide yawn. "Well it's been good ta meet ya Taye. I think I should head off ta my quarters now that I know the way. Thanks for the help by the way. Hope we run into each other some more."
Taye nods to Terrance, and steps aside so that he can pass. "Welcome, 'course. Night, 'n' niced 't meetcha."
Terrance looks up and returns the nod and gives a tired smile, "Night chap" and with that he walks past Taye and into the dorm hall.
