04.27.10 - Can't Find Selene
Location: Halyard Road
Characters Involved: Sidney, Darklett
The worst part about this whole hurricane? You can't drink it away because the tavern was in the middle of the bloody hurricane. Darklett's sitting on the road, staring at a pile of rubble blankly. Who knows how long he's been doing that, but he doesn't seem particularly occupied. With anything.
Sidney is moving a little gingerly as he approaches the other buck. There was that whole think with a house falling on him and Taye. Oh, Darklett, how close you came to losing both your lieutenants. "Hey," he says as he comes to a stop, standing over Darklett with his head tilted. "Having fun?"
Darklett looks up at Sidney only as he's addressed and not before. Apparently snapped out of that particular daze, the major shakes his head clear of it and breathes a long sigh before responding. "I, uh. Can't find Selene." That abouuuuut sums it up.
Sidney's ears flatten back, and he takes a step around to Darklett's side, then crouches, looking at him worriedly. "You can't find her? Since when?"
"Since..." Darklett shrugs. "The hurricane. I was with her, and... Our house got demolished, so we fled for safety to..." He points to the pile of rubble -- well a little off to the side, which is where the rubble was before it was moved. "There. She was hurt so I went to go get help and... Next thing I remember I woke up down by what used to be the docks. Came back here, and," he gestures again to the rubble, "that wasn't there anymore. So I got a team to dig and dig, and it turns out... She wasn't there, either."
Sidney takes a breath, and lets it out. "She can't just. /Vanish/, Dark. If she. If she wasn't in that one when it collapsed, she went somewhere else. Somewhere /safe/." He rests his hand on Dark's arm, and squeezes lightly. "You're just missing each other in all the commotion and disorder. That's all it is."
"Somewhere safe at the time," Darklett asserts, in almost a mumble. "...I don't know what could have happened to her. It's been days. I've been looking for her, and I'm sure she'd be looking for me."
"You're just missing each other." It's really that simple, yes it is. Sid shakes his head. "Have you been back to Sala or have you been staying here like most of us? 'cause maybe when she couldn't find you, she went back there instead."
"I haven't left. You're... You're right. She's..." Darklett nods. "She's probably just at the mountain waiting. Or in the infirmary because... Maybe another hare found her and helped her back to where she could be treated." The major at the very least sounds hopeful at this prospect. "I should check back."
"Yeah. Yeah, Dark, if you haven't checked Sala. That's got to be where she is." Sid squeezes Dark's arm again. "Your doe's smart, she'd know that's the safest place to be. Just couldn't find you in all the mess of things here," he reiterates.
"Mm... Yeah." Darklett even stands. Such energy, all of a sudden! "I'm going back to the mountain. Taye's in charge of the patrol if he's around; if he's not, then you are. I'll be back... Relatively soon."
Sidney stands too, with a small grimace, then grins at Darklett. "You got it, Dark."
"...Take care of yourself." Darklett apparently noticed that grimace, ha. "Tell Taye I said the same." And... Off he jogs to leave Halyard and head towards Salamandastron.
