02.13.10 - Bad Luck, Archer!
Location: Salamandastron Infirmary
Characters Involved: Taye, Sidney, Darklett
Oh, is it morning? That means Sid's pulled an all-nighter at Taye's side. He looks it, too. At least one of the nurses has been nice enough to give him a cup of tea, which he holds in both hands, slumped back in his seat and watching his friend with a distinct look of disgruntled do-not-like.
This is what happens when Darklett leaves the mountain! It never fails. The major walks into the infirmary, giving a deathglare to the first healer who tries to even so much as clear his or her throat at him, locates Taye, and walks purposefully towards him. And... Sidney, but he's more of an aside than anything. "...Is he gonna be alright?" First question should always be the most important.
Sidney lifts his head, giving Darklett a somewhat vacant look. "... they d'know yet," he mumbles. "Lotsa blood, and.. his arm..." Small sentences for the exhausted vigil-keeper.
The he in question appears to be sleeping... but at Sid's words he grunts softly and squints open one eye. "'He'... is gonna be fine," he mutters softly.
"...His arm...?" Darklett tenses at the sound of that. "...W... What about his arm?"
"Uh." Sid grimaces a little, and glances at Taye.. who is now awake. So he deems it best not to talk about the, uh. Arm. Which was kind of chewed on? At the joint of neck-and-shoulder? ".. 'course you are, hon," he says wearily, reaching to give Taye's hand a small squeeze. "Gonna be jus' fine."
".. That's righ'," he sighs. Both eyes narrowly open and he looks to Darklett. "'Ey, mate," he mutters with a small grin. "Knew I'd figure out a way t'get outta that Guosim patrol," he jokes.
Unable to help himself but smile at Taye's quick wit vis a vis his getting out of logboat rides, Darklett lowers himself on the adjacent cot. "Hey, Taye. You're looking an awful lot like your major right now, bleeding all over infirmary cots like this. I'm glad I taught you well." Ah, humor.
Sidney can't help it, either, and he gives a shallow snort of amusement, not-quite-laughter, and rolls his head back while resting in that chair. The tea just steams in his hands.
"Good thing ya taught me tha'... 'invincible bleed out 'n' not die' thing, too." His eyes flinch shut for a brief moment, with a quiet 'hrk' of discomfort, and then open again. He glances at Sid.
"Heh," Darklett almost grimaces at this, ears fully flicked back against his skull as he watches the lieutenant. "Yeah, just... Just keep not dying." And because he allows himself to finally be curious (and Taye isn't looking!) he checks out the 'arm' situation with a glance. Sure, it's all bandaged up, but he can kind of tell that what's beneath it is gruesome. Wince.
They packed the wound, but their wasn't much stitching... since a lot of his flesh was missing! The bandage is a little brown from dried blood during the night, it'll need to be changed again at some point. The arm itself is immobilized in a sling, paw resting against his stomach. He looks back to Darklett and sees him looking. He doesn't say anything. Just looks kind of grim.
Sidney sees Darklett's survey of the arm, and the grim look of both of them. "Flesh wound," he mumbles, trying to lighten the mood, and reaches to tuck the sheet a bit closer around Taye's body.. just something to do. Feel helpful. "Just. Need rest, 's all, right?"
Darklett catches Taye catching him looking, and meets eyes with him for a moment. He tries a smile, ever the optimist, but boy does it come out weak. "...Yeah. Just make sure you get all the rest you can, and pay attention to everything the healers say. You'll be better in no time." Hahah, like he means that. As if.
But they've got to play the game, so Taye just forces a grin. "Yeah. Yeah, just some rest," he agrees with the both of 'em. His eyes close again with a shallow sigh.
Well, the alternative is... 'oh yeah, you might die, and even if you don't, you'll probably have a crippled arm... Bad luck, archer!' ... not so much. XD Sid coaxes a small grin across his own face, staring down at his tea. "We'll all be laughing about it in a few weeks.. and. Bet you'll feel better once the marten's hunted down.."
"Hunted down or dead, whichevah works," Taye mutters - a little darkly. He's not very fond of the marten at this particular point in time. His teeth grit.
Oh, you mean the marten's not /dead?/ Taye, what were you /thinking./ :P Darklett sighs, dipping his sight to the floor. "Don't worry about that now, Taye. Just... Just focus on getting better." Because you /have/ to because you're /Taye./
".. kinda figured they're synonyms," Sid mutters. "But. But like I said. Probably bled out already, you.. you beat the crap outta it. Her? It."
Yeah well it did a fair number on him, too. "Don't think she coulda survived it," he mutters to himself. Kind of trying to convince himself of it.
Darklett is just kind of bummed out now, but. Hopes up. :D He hunkers over a little on the bed, elbows atop his knees as he rests in that position. "You need anything?"
"Nah. Think m'just gonna... sleep." Yeah. Yeah, sleep would be good. They can talk or whatever. He falls quiet.
"'course not," Sid mutters, then quiets again. He rubs his hand on the back of Taye's forearm, gently, while looking up and over at Darklett.
Darklett's voice lowers to a whisper, as Taye is now sleeping. "You gonna stay here?" he inquires of Sidney, glancing towards Taye again. Worry, worry.
Sidney leans back in his chair again, and nods, giving Darklett a wry smile. "Long as he needs me," he confirms in a murmur, "so." Maybe a while? ".. yeah. Staying."
Darklett nods slowly, standing up. "Get me if... Anything happens," he asks of Sidney, before glancing over Taye one more time, and stepping back towards the exit.
