Salamandastron: Crater

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Salamandastron *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-

You are on the very top of the mountain of Salamandastron: a large, bowl-

shaped crater.  The crater is not smooth, quite the contrary in fact.

Numerous boulders and large chunks of rock are strewn around randomly,

making the crater top just as craggy as any of the mountainside.  The

crater provides an outstanding view of the surrounding country.  The sea

sprawls off to the west as far as the eye can see, and north and south

along the endlessly rolling sand dunes.  In the distant east, a tinge of

green is just visible from this height, marking the vegetation in the

foothills of the Western Mountains.

Flint has been here for maybe an hour or two, just looking at the view from up here. The wind up here has a slight chill to it, but he doesn’t seem to really care right now.

Windrose has made her way up here, mainly to get some air after a workout in the training room, but she spots Flint and walks over to him,"Hey, wot are you doing out here by yourself? It’s a bit cold out isn't it?"

Flint shrugs "Not too cold out lass, be colder the closer it gets to winter"

Windrose says, "Yes, that’s true. You sort of stormed out of the Dining Hall yesterday, you ok?"

Flint stares at the long bit of sandy beach before he answers that, " I don't know lass." Well, at least he is honest." Maybe I should just leave or take a break "

Windrose frowns, "Leave? Why would you leave for?"

Flint crosses his arms over his chest as he seems to think of an answer, "Wot is there here lass, I mean I tried to get back into patrols and wot happens my fist time out, I almost get myself killed. I am a private, not a blooming recruit."

Windrose says, "No one said you were a recruit, those who were here then remember you as a Private and I know newer ones do as well. And not all privates have good days ya know"

Flint lays a paw on the crater edge as he speaks and looks over the view of the land, "They don't have ta say it, they seem to just think it by how they act, by how they heard wot happen. My long bow aim was off, and practice showed it’s still off..I..I didn't use to miss, maybe slightly but...I mean....wot happen?"

Windrose walks closer, "You were gone over 3 seasons Flint, and I am sure you didn't get any chances to keep your skills up to date"

Flint turns around to face her now, "No, but that’s not the point. I got to the point where they knew I wouldn’t try and escape. I could of easily if tried harder, I had made a new longbow and a pawfull of arrows, not the best but they would of helped. But I gave up till the one lass Celina was caught, then barely managed to escape as it was."

Windrose offers a smile “But you did escape and you helped another escape. You also helped make sure the wildcat didn't leave the shores when you were on patrol the other day."

Flint sighs, "I got lucky others showed up. I may of slowed that cat down but I was aiming to kill, not slow that cat down. I ended up needing helped as well."

Windrose says, "No one was expecting you to fight off a wildcat by yourself Flint"

Flint just replies, "I could of, if I had got his chest and not his blooming shoulder blade. I aimed and it was off when it landed."

Windrose says, "Ok, Ok but like I said it was your first time back in a long while, and you still helped, yes you got an injury but not a bad one, I mean it could of been worse."

Flint shakes his head, "Yeah..Bolas could of entangled my footpaws, or something..that wildcat wouldn't of cared, he was out to kill, even of it ment kill a captive as well. If anything I endangered instead of helped. I was lucky to even hit the cat at all"

Windrose lays a paw on his shoulder, "Your over reacting to all this just take time to get practice and training in and wait till later to go on another patrol."

Flint goes to remove her paw and just walks on back inside, "No..I..I think I'm leaving or maybe not...I don't know anymore " He disappears on inside and it's unclear where he is going.

Windrose frowns and is unsure whether to follow, "Flint..."
