Brockhall: Annex

This chamber, lit with soft-glowing lanterns, is the very hollowed trunk of

Brockhall and serves as an  annex for a host  of adjacent rooms and a grand

entrance hall. The room's  ceiling is lost  overhead in the darkness of the

mighty oak trunk. The tree's  thick roots, that  twist their way around the

chamber, have been honed and polished to resemble simple furnishings -- the

chairs,  tables, and shelves are  all part of the  rustic decor,  as much a

part  of the  tree as the  beings who dwell  here. A  great stone fireplace

dominates the  far wall, encircled by small stumps  and even a large, comfy

chair. Carved into the living walls, a staircase with a sturdy railing runs

around the  chamber, ascending  gracefully into darkness.  Another smaller,

darkened stairwell, the steps  worn with age, leads to the woodlands. Above

the  stairwell,  a  brightly  polished,  bronze  plaque  reads:  Brockhall.

Leon walked along the forest path quietly, he was alone which  may not of been one of his better plans but he needed the time alone to think better and not be bothered. He had not meant to worry any beast but he decided to walk ahead of them all.

Also in the woods trying to remain unseen is a small creature in an oversize cloak much too big got them.She spotted Leon a few minutes ago and grew curious of him. So she did what most do at her age, followed him what else.

Leon sighs as he is a little lost now but he does finally get to what he was looking for a large odd shaped tree, he feels along the edge and finds the door and goes to carefully open it and slip inside.

Aibne is inside and he does seem to take kindly to a visitor to his little hideaway.He found by accident when he and his little sister were lost in the woods during a thunderstorm, his sister of all beasts found the strange lining in the tree, a door of sorts and they have been here the past week.

Mint is still following Leon when she sees him near the tree and  watches him enter and then she heads to the doorway as well.

Leon looks around the chamber with its soft glow of lights, some beast has to check on this place ever so often or it just stays fairly nice since no one hardly comes here anymore. He is tried of his walking and sits on one of the chairs.

Aibne steps out of the shadows and his deep voice sort of echos slightly in the tree "Wot ye doin' ere' ya mouse?" He sounds just a little annoyed.

Mint walks in slowly, whimpering and holding her midsection she seems to not care whom is here and whom is not"Me not feela goods Aibne, tummy and throat hurts lots." On her dress she has some little bits of white mushroom with an odd pattern, but not the good button kind you can eat these are a deadly poisonous look alike.

Leon quickly stands and gets out  a slingshot and then sees it's a sea otter, he starts to ask why he is there when he turns to see the dibbun and looks at her, without thinking that healer mode of his kicks in and he is looking in one of his pockets and pulls out a small vial as well placing some water from a flas into it and the powered mustard seed and goes over to the dibbun, "Here drink this, all of it. It will make you throw up I am sorry or that but its needed."One thing quickly noted is he uses his tail as a paw, why well he seems to be missing his right paw but he still does extremely well without it.

Aibne turns to the dibbun, "Mint wha.." He watches Leon go to the dibbun and tenses up" Hey get ya self away from me sister!"

Mint drink the thick mustard seed mixture and coughs and son vomits most of the mushrooms up, like 99% of them and then starts crying.

Leon frowns and goes to help the dibbun lay down on the floor by a far wall, "I need some charcoal, please...it will help draw out the rest of the poison, she will not be able to eat or drink till tonight and something light if she does.She ate some poisonous mushrooms, some wild mushrooms are good and some poisonous and sadly they look almost alike, its hard to tell them apart unless your highly skilled and know what your doing."

Aibne stands there in shock and then quickly looks around and soon is back, "I found some old forge room, not been used in seasons but still had some charcoal in it." He hands it to the mouse.

Leon gets some of the charcoal and makes a powder he mixes  with some water till its like cloudy water and has Mint drink it if she will.

Mint does drink it and makes a face as she coughs and curls up on the floor, "Yucky..." she mutters and sniffs a little as she decides to get some rest, she will likely need it.

Aibne still stares and then gets tears in his eyes "You..you saved her life, thank ya matey"

Leon simply nods and smiles " I..I did didn't I. And your welcome it's what healers do. I am Brother Leon Master Healer of Redwall Abbey." He stands and walks over to the sea otter to offer his paw to shake.

Aibne decides not to ask about the missing paw and shakes the paw the mouse offers him " I am Aibne Swiftwater, and that's my little sister Mint. We only have each other as our parents were killed in a shipwreck on the sea shore. I found her amount the wreckage and we followed the river and hen went inland some, found this place by accident when we got lost in a thunderstorm, been here a little under a week.No plans on staying long need a much better place ta stay"

Leon nods "I am sorry to hear that, there is Redwall Abbey maybe, you could talk to our abbot. And I am glad I helped save your little sister, I been feeling down and..thinking if I was even able to save any lives anymore."He sighs a little and sits back down.

Aibne looks at him "Wot ya mean matey, ya just save me sister's life." He walks over "Ya know me mother always said talkin' helps, so get ta talkin'"

Leon manages a chuckle and nods "Sure why not, see a month ago we lost an abbot, abbot Lorimis who  has been the abbot for, well a long long time and he dyed of an illness that stayed with him since winter and old age. I keep thinking should of been able to save him, but I wasn't there when he passed, I had been ordered to leave his chambers, yes I was tried and hadn't sleep in 3  days but still I am the Master Healer I kept saying. I needed rest and it helped, but I woke to news that he dyed and it upset me greatly, and then just a couple weeks ago I found out I may lose another friend due to a weak heart he has. He is slowly getting worse. I mean he can't walk or stand and needs a wheelchair to get around. And....he knows he is in bad shape,I did a check up on him and well..yeah signs of getting worse if one looks hard enough. Swollen legs and wrists, the fact he cant stand without feeling he will fall, just and...." He frowns.

Aibne listens and nods "It helps ta talk, I am guessing a close friend and note dis, ya can't save every beast ya know, even if your the worlds best healer, sometimes its just a beast time to go."

Leon has been silent and nods again, "I know, its just hard at times." He  looks up as he had been starring at the floor, "He wanted me to give him a check up and..he asked me if he was dying. I didn't know how to answer him, I just told him he was getting worse and most likely wouldn't survive to see winter, he didn't say much to that answer , he didn't want me to share but since I have its helped me not be so upset about it and I think I will be telling him when he gets back, he should tell his brother and daughter about it,  they should know at least.And your right talking helps" He smiles as he is feeling a lot better than he has the past couple weeks.

Aibine smiles, "See talking helps ya out,  keeping feelin' inside just causes stress. Ya should mention that to this friend of yours, stress is most likely even worse for him ta have"

Leon speaks, "A lot worse. He would of come on the trip but he stayed at the abbey, I am not sure if he will come to the Summer Feast or not, we are having that by the quarry when we are done with out trip to different places." He then smiles "Maybe you could tag along with us, you and Mint I am sure Abbot Benar wouldn't care and he and others are supposed to come here in a couple days."

Aibne frowns a little now "Well, I will think on it. Me and Mint sort of been wandering hermits de past couple seasons. Never staying any one place too long, but I promise ta thinks on it ok?"

Leon  nods to this , "That's all I ask of you Aibne." He yawns and lays down as the fact he is tried catches up to him and he is soon asleep.

Aibne watches the healer sleep and looks at the doorway and then at Mint, "A home...well, that's for sure somethin' ta think on now isn't it...yep" He yawns and stretches out before falling asleep himself.
