RW Abbey: Infirmary

Several beds are lined against the red sandstone walls of the Abbey's Infirmary. An examination table, separated from the rest of the room by hanging blankets, rests against the far wall.  Tucked into a small alcove is a sizeable workbench with various containers for mixing and preparing medicinal compounds.  Against another wall is a desk for use by the Infirmary Keeper.  A curtained off alcove behind the desk hides a locked door to the Infirmary's supplies and linens.

Cynthia lays on a cot, since yesterday evening in fact when she passed out. She now opens her eyes and wakes up

Chud has learned not to rifle through drawers when Angela's around, and he's not sure where she is, so instead he waits on an empty cot for her to show up.  He's writing in his journal right now, taking notes on something or other.

Angela appears!  She hobbles over to the mousemaid's bedside and goes to do a check-up.  "'Ow y'feelin, dearie?"  LilyMoore comes in, carrying some treats from the carnival.  "Oh, hi," she says to the otter.  "Want some sweetbread?  There's lots!"

Cynthia frowns "Where's...Caleb? How did I get here...." The last thing she remembers is was outside...dancing? Singing...she is not too sure, "Have a ..headache and...-coughs- throat sore a little"

Chud smiles.  "Sure thing."  He takes a bit of the offered sweetbread.  "So how's the carnival been?  I haven't been around much."  He munches, nodding his approval.

LilyMoore brightens considerably.  "It's been fun!  I participated in the greased pole event on Thursday, but I didn't win.  I was beaten by the squirrels."  Which is only to be expected.  "I hope the circus canmaybe stay an extra week.....they're tons of fun!  Although Momma doesn't appreciate being the big group.....the Abbey /is/ a bit more active than it usually is...."  Angela purses her lips.  "I'm afraid I'm going to have to keep ye in here from the feast tomorrow.  I don't think it'd be wise for ya to go back out into this heat."  She dampens a cloth and goes to rest it on the mousemaid's forehead.

Cynthia frowns, but she doesn't argue with the mousmaid, maybe she can find a way to stay a short while but right now she is tired and still feels a little ill so she gives a nod.

Chud nods again.  "Yeah.  That's often the case when you're up against squirrels.  It's usually quiet around here, it's good to see things livened up in the Abbey."

LilyMoore starts munching on a sweetbread.  Yum!  "I wouldn't want it to be like this forever, though.....and I'm glad that all the bad guys are gone.  I hope we get some peace for a while....."  Angela gets some honeyed mint tea that she had cooling in the pond earlier and hands it to the mousemaid.  "/Sip/ this VERY slowly....an' don't go sneakin' out to go to the feast.  Y'need yer rest, young 'un."

Cynthia sips the tea slowly..."Not...so young...8 seasons old." She mutters and sips some more tea and sighs, she hates being stuck in bed like this.

"True...everything in moderation, eh? It'd be hectic, and it's get old...I haven't seen much trouble out in Mossflower while on patrol, so mayhap you're right..."  Chud closes his journal after he finishes speaking.

Angela goes to poke the mousemaid gently.  "Ye're younger'n me, so that make ye a young 'un.  Don't talk back."  She hobbles over to the herb cabinets and starts rummaging around, careful to not mess up her grandson-in-law's alphabetical order.  Lily nods.  "I hope I am.....oh, do you journal, too?  I though only Nana and Momma and Recorders did that."  She leans in close and whispers, "They make me do it, but I have to be by myself in order to concentrate."

Chud laughs quietly.  "I get like that too.  I do it sporadically at least...in this case I was taking notes on an old song I'd copied from a book.  I can never keep up with myself if I try to do it constantly."

Cynthia frowns, she sips tea quietly now

LilyMoore blinks.  "I journal almost every day!  It helps me not get mad," she adds as a confession, looking at the floor in shame.  Angela comes to her rescue by hobbling over and saying, "D'ye need 'elp, son?  'Ave ye seen any new plants for our book?"  Yes, she started their book without warning him first.  It's kind of what she does sometimes.

Sensing the need for a subject change, Chud changes tack swiftly.   "Well...I don't know many of 'em.  Anything you're trying to find in particular, or that you have already?"

LilyMoore sits down and eats another sweet bun as her great-grandmother pulls out a list.  "These are all the local plants that I 'ave.  Are ye any good at drawin'?  Beasts need to be able to tell beyond a shadow of a doubt what plant they're lookin' at in real life after seein' it in our book."  After thinking for a few minutes, she adds, "Per'aps ye could take me out on a tour of the woodlands near 'ere and we can see what we can find..."

Cynthia sips the rest of the tea and looks around the room "W...Where is Caleb, is he in the infirm or...back later if not?"

"I'm okay at drawing," Chud says, "But we could take samples and preserve them if you wanted something more accurate.  Or do rubbings of them to get their markings and shapes."  The otter pauses.  "Hmm...I've seen most of these.  A few of these I haven't, but that's because I'm generally looking for signs of things that had passed through, not what's living where I'm looking."

"You could have Blisa do the drawings for you," LilyMoore suggests as she slips to the other side of the room.  Angela nods.  "We could.....per'aps save the samples and give them to 'er if she 'as the time to do the artwork for us......'ave ye seen any plants locally that are not on this list?"  Lily cautiously approaches the other mousemaid, remembering that she might be nervous because of the whole biting thing that happened a few months ago.  "I'm not sure where my brother is.  If I see him, I'll let him know that you woke up."  She smiles in what she hopes is a reassuring manner.

Cynthia watches Lilymoore closely and nods "A...Alright, that would be nice....t...thanks" She is a little nervous as even if she did leave, she still remembers that day.

"Good idea, I'll see if she's available anytime soon...it's a bit hectic getting Ferravale back together."  Chud pauses again, scanning the list again.  "I'm not seeing anything that looks like one I've seen in eastern reaches of the woods...It's yellow, and tall...Not a sunflower though.  It's orange near the middle, looks almost like a tulip in shape..." OOC: He's talking about oxlip, by the way :) BIC:

Angela is instantly interested.  "Oh, really?  What is it used for?"  Lily stays a safe distance form the other mousemaid and sits on a chair.  "I.....I'm glad you 2 are friends, I.....yeah. Sorry."  She looks at the floor and sets the plate of sweetbreads on a nearby cot.

"Not sure...I've heard tales about it being used for fever, and as a cough treatment...don't know how much weight to put on those stories though."  Chud shrugs. "Don't suppose we can test it out on anybeast anyhow."

Cynthia nods "Yeah...me and Caleb are friends...maybe more than friends"

LilyMoore looks up at the other mousemaid, her face blank as she doesn't want to believe what Cynthia just said.  "Waitwhat?"  Angela hmms, then nods. "There's usually lots of truth behind some 'old wives' tales'; if y'ell pick one and bring it back to me, as well as writin' down everythin' you notice about the land and other plants around it and 'ow it grows, that'd be 'elpful.....but only bring me one if there are several others nearby, please."

Oz is carrying  in a dibbun that skinned their knee into the infirm, he sits the young mole dibbun on a cot for a healer to  check on.

Cynthia decides now is a good time to get some sleep "I....I think gonna take a nap now" Yeah naps are good and its safe here for a nap.

"Sure, I can," Chud says confidently, flashing a quick grin.  "How soon would you like it here?"

Angela waves her paw airily.  "Oh, no rush.  Just as soon as 'ycan."  She then assigns a Novice to help the screaming mole Dibbun; it builds character to have to deal with snotty children.  Lily grabs a pillow, walks stiffly out of the room into the hallway, buries her face in the pillow and screams.  Her brother + Cynthia = everything in her life going wrong.  Awesomesauce.

Chud walks out, hearing Lily's muffled shout, and goes out to see what's wrong, and doesn't come back for quite a while.
