FV:Nightbreath's Home:Main Room

As you walk in, you see a strange symbol carved over the doorway.

The center of the room is dominated by a rectangular oaken table, inlaid with countless glyphs, runes, tales, and prophecies, apparently carved by a claw.  There's an assortment of plain wooden chairs, unadorned, except the back of each is marked in the same way  as the doorway.  The right wall of the room harbors a small fireplace, with a long, jagged katana-like sword sometimes kept on pegs over the mantle.  A plain metal rack accomodates a set of brass fireplace tools, all lined up neatly and within easy reach of a mat on the floor in front of the fire.

Upon the mantle is a woodcut, simple, yet polished and maintained as well as is mortally possible.  Next to it lies a scroll, kept in a metal tube and plugged at the end with a wood stopper.  Opposite to the fireplace, on the left wall, is an ordinary wooden shelf with a carved skull of indeterminate species set on an elegant stand--the skull doesn't quite look real, but it does look like bone--, carved with strange markings.  Arcane plants grow in small holders fashioned from earthenware; they, too, are on the shelf.   To the right of the shelf, against the floor, stretching from under the shelf's far edge to the back wall, where they turn and extend past the back corner so they continue along the back wall and now face the front wall, a row of simple wooden cabinets contains cutlery, simple unadorned dishes, cloth place settings that are also unadorned, and simple food supplies--Even Seers must eat.

Next to the cabinets, which are covered over the top with a nice wooden countertop pitted and scarred with a few indentations from preparing food while lacking a cutting board in the first few days of inhabitation--Nightbreath has since acquired a sheet of light-colored wood for this purpose--And in the back wall, a pair of wooden doors are positioned, leading to the sleeping quarters of the respective residents of the house, the left leading to Ragg's and the right leading to Nightbreath's.  The door handles are black iron, privacy made available by simple latches on the face of each that is within the room, a small bar about the length of one claw swiveling vertically to fit into holders on the inside of the doorframe.

On the front wall, just to the right of the door for easy access, sets of wooden pegs for the cloaks of the house's occupants are mounted, with room above the row of pegs on a small wood protrusion for swords to be hung as well, and in addition a strange knob, apparently designed to hold something rope-like coiled around it, but it's currently bare.

Upon the table is a low, shallow bowl of foggy glass-crystal, with perfectly clear pale-blue water that never seems to spill, or even slosh around in the normal manner, only rippling slightly when one makes contact with it.

After unlocking the door, Nightbreath enters his home. There's a fire started already and he sits down at the symbol-etched wooden table, facing the door and waiting for Scioto to enter. His breathing is slow, still shaky.

Scioto has followed the seer to his home, being silent the whole way till he gets there, his first thought is it's Blisa " Tell me the guards can stop it, if not I will send Blisa to Redwall I don't care if I dislike the place right now"

"She's not in danger, Chieftain," Nightbreath says slowly. "Neither is the rest of the village. And even were they, this is fate. You can no more stand against it than a house of cards in a storm."

Scioto makes sure the door is shut before he looks at Nightbreath, some concern now and more so than before "Then what did you see?" He asks quietly "You mentioned a death and you wanted to talk to me in private..." A thought comes to mind but he decides to wait on a reply.

"I saw you, Chieftain," Nightbreath says, finally forcing the words out. "I'm...I'm sorry. There's no other way to say it. I saw your death. And it comes ever nearer."

Scioto stands there silent as if making sure he heard that right, "Mine?...Maybe it could be changed, I can wear armor and stay more alert? What did you see of it, what happen in the vision"

"It cannot be changed. We can only ensure that everything is ready when the time comes...that you die standing." Nightbreath's voice is full of sorrow, and a bit of shame. "There was no blood. But, too, there was no life."

Scioto frowns "How is that possible? How can someone die with...maybe I was near death or.." He pauses to take a breath to calm himself, too much thinking of how and what happens" Where was I? Was anyone else there?"

"You were in this village; where, I cannot say. There was a beast there but their face was hidden from me." Nightbreath murmurs a curse. "rik'las'ht! That I could seem more!" He's in a sort of mental agony right now, trying to find a way, to be the voice in the darkness that says, 'I AM' to the oncoming night.

Scioto listens still and his ears go flat as he about falls over and takes a couple deep breaths again, "How soon?" He says barely containing a mental breakdown possibly from this. He can only hope Blisa is not there to see it happen.

"Too soon. Within this summer." Nightbreath clenches his fists, digging his claws into his palms. "No time, no time!" He mutters. After a moment, he begins breathing deeply. In...Then out. In...then out. "I'thu...kor...rakt...talz...skal'ibaad," He whispers between breaths.

Scioto watches the Seer, wondering if he sees anything else. The chieftain is in a state of this is not real and not happening, but he truly trusts the Seer's words as he has never been wrong. He clears his throat "I..I can't tell Blisa..or should I...?" He looks to the seer as if pleading for help in what to do, what is right?

"You should. She'd never forgive you, or me, if we kept it from her. But," Nightbreath says, returning to his usual detached, calm demeanor. The wizened second-in-command, as always. "It will not be an easy road to walk. She will be frightened, and angry, and in denial for some time. Use the time you have to make your peace with her, with your departed family, and with the rest of the world. We must not be crippled by your loss. We must be ready to fight. For many will take this as an opportunity to try to attack..."

Scioto nods as he stands up better slowly "But..an attack may well be coming." His good eye widens as something else dawns on him "Blisa would be chieftain...her life would equally be in danger"

"Aye, that's the problem." Nightbreath says. But he holds up a paw to forestall any panic. "Fear not, Chieftain. I will help her. As I have guided you, so will I guide her through the storm. She will be under the protection of Ragg and myself, and, I doubt not, the rest of the village."

Scioto nods slowly, he worries for Blisa and its clear even if he isn't showing it. "Then...then we should be ready, whatever happens seems to happen fairly quickly and all at once maybe. Or your seeing end results...but you said some beast was there.."

"Aye," Nightbreath says. "Somebeast close--Anything more, I cannot see. I'm sorry. Truly."

Scioto nods "Ok....I will tell her as soon as I figure out the best way to tell her...I am unsure...how to.." Not the best dinner talk, oh yes honey by the way I die soon.

"Tell her as soon as you can," Nightbreath agrees. "The longer it remains unspoken, the harder it will be to tell her. I recommend taking her out to the orchards, or somewhere quiet before you tell her."

Scioto nods "It...is a good idea yes. I have to tell her."

The scent in the air notably changes within the village compared to the sweet fragrant flowery smells outside the east gates. Stale air, rotting food and the occasionally not particularly pleasant smelling inhabitant all assault the nose until it gets used to things. Mercenary guards patrol the high wooden palisade wall separates the vermin village from the outside world, the only break in sight in the form of the main gate to the village to the east. North of the path one of the few stone buildings in the village stands a little run down, now an inn it butts up to the side of the tavern and boasts many beds available, at least that's probably what the sign says, much like the building it's old and the beast who wrote it has probably died of old age long after the paint was last touched up. West finally buildings begin to spring up everywhere and the path widens into a large clearing at the centre of the village.

** THIS ROOM IS BROADCASTING **

There is a light drizzle this morning, not enough to cause damage, but enough to cause most beasts to head inside. Liam is not among those beasts however.

The inn keeping pine marten is a portly beast but much slimmer than he was last season. All the excess walking and jogging around town. He even curbed his intake of pancakes, working on his diet slimming his waistline down to a manageable pot belly.

The inn was raking in money, he just used most to put an addition onto his home. There was even a cute little pine marten that moved into town who worked as a baker. Things were for all intents and purposes going well.

Which is why the plump pine marten is here, sitting on his knees in the ashes of his inn. His mouth is left a gap and his eyes seem to reframe from blinking. He has been here for several hours despite the downpour around him.

A guard is on duty and looks over at the pine marten and walks over "Did the inn burn down?" He says "That place was lousy anyways I say. The chieftain and some beast were talking of it but the chieftain had to go somewhere."

Liam doesn't reply. It's possible he doesn't even hear the guard. He just continues to stare at the ashes of his lively hood. They just put in a new chandelier. He can see the twisted metal sticking out under a pile of debris. "Mrmph." He says, rocking back and forth.

The guard rolls his eyes "Someone knocked over an oil lamp and like walked away , but hey the rain put the fire out and make it a pile of ash!" He then starts chuckling insanely like this is the fun nested thing ever

The marten only rocks back and forth, "Mrrrph!" He says, taking off his cap and biting into it, presumably to keep himself from screaming. Gone, all gone. He was homeless again. His fortune was lost. A refugee in his home town! It was only a short hop and skip to begging again. "Mrrrph mrrph!" He says through his hat.

The guard just falls over laughing at this, to him its funny as ever. "Its de famous Ash Pile Inn...ya!" He ha has loudly.

The marten's eyes seem to twitch. Both of them, and not in unison. There is a resounding RIP as he pulls the hat away, tearing it in half while still biting into it. He lets out the primal scream of a marten, which is a high pitched chirp of sorts and beats his chest with his fluffy well-manicured paws. After this is through he falls onto his hands, rocking his head back and forth...and laughing, "You know...this is pretty heheheh...pretty funny. Three seasons of work and struggle and I'm back to square one..." He turns to the guard, eyes wild with a Cheshire like grin, "Well, don't you think that's /funny!?/" He lunges himself towards the guard, trying to wrap his paws around his neck.

The guard sees the marten too late and starts kicking the former Inn keeper as he is basically choked. It’s about then the chieftain walks into the area. He looks sort of in a daze and blinks, he looks at the fighting beats and would normally stop it but he just...leaves them alone.

"Are you laughing yet? WELL?" He continues to throttle the guard, hardly even noticing the kicks to his stomach. "It's gone! Gone! ALL OF IT! So why are you NOT LAUGHING!"

Scioto frowns as it looks like Liam is killing one of his guards. The guard tries to pry the marten’s paws off his neck and even claws at the martens face. The chieftain watches still sort of out of it. What the heck did he and the seer speak of. He finally speaks "Liam......your Inn is gone by the way" But it’s all even toned and no emotion.

"Lies! It's not gone! It's...it's not..." The martens grasp loosens and he crumbles to his knees. He take a moment to compose himself, and then utterly fails at it and starts crying.

Scioto blinks, the guard on the other paw is clearly unconscious, the chieftain walks over and looks at Liam "It..is..like gone." He frowns "And I have decided to take the rest of the day off..got some...things to think of"

The marten leans back on his haunches, head cast down and rubbing at his snout. He's a grown beast. Grown beasts don't cry! Well, in this case they most certainly do but still!

Liam is just a bundle of nerves and emotions at the moment, "Yeah...I think...I think I am going to take the rest of the day off...at the tavern...if...if anyone needs me..."

Scioto nods "Yeah..what ever...sounds like a plan" Good grief why is he so..so sounding all flat toned? He just walks on towards his house, then stops. He takes a deep breath and then goes home where he will tell Blisa to follow him, with or without her guards, and he heads to the orchards.
