i started the log for the rp with some squirrelbabe backstory: http://forum.rwmuck.org/viewtopic.php?id=2000
Thanks to Oz and Log-a-Log for helping me RP this out! ![]()
This happened around the time Dochas, most commonly known as Squirrelbabe, came to Redwall. It happened in the past, not during current RP time. However, we RPed it out to make it more fun and easier. Additionally, this would only be ICly known to the people involved: the foxes who survived and Dochas.
Dochas' grandparents had come from an island across the ocean, searching for good land to settle in. With them was their beautiful daughter. Upon arriving in Mossflower, the little family had to learn a whole new language in order to fit in. The daughter learned faster than her parents did, and soon she traveled around the area, trading the yarn her mother spun and the clay pots her father threw for the supplies they needed.
She eventually met a young male squirrel, and after a season of courting, they were married. His parents had been killed in one of the many sieges of Redwall, so he moved in with the trio. He proved that he had his own skills: thievery. He tended to avoid stealing from his fellow woodlanders, but the various vermin he encountered were always fair game in his opinion. Money, objects, he stole them all without any of his victims being the wiser.
They lived a happy life, deep in the woods. One day, their joy was multiplied when it turned out they were pregnant. The began making (and stealing) things to make the baby happy and comfortable when it arrived. Alas, this was not to be; the baby was born too soon and died. The family was devastated, and their sorrow was only deepened when this happened another two times. The fourth time they were pregnant, they were cautious to be happy. But the longer the pregnancy lasted, the more hopeful they became, until at last the little female was born, healthy and full term. The grandmother said that this was a sign of hope, and said to name her Dochas, which means hope in the language of the island they came from.
So they raised little Dochas with all the love and joy they had, telling her that she was their hope for the future. Dochas was happy, knowing that she was fully loved. Her parents and grandparents doted on her and tried to teach her everything they knew (she picked up lockpicking and climbing very well). They were happy....until the day it all changed.
~*~
Dochas was happy staying at home with her grandparents while her parents were out doing their business. Today she had her little drop spindle and top in her lap. Her grandfather had made them out of clay for her, and her grandmother was teaching her how to make yarn. Their cheerful voices were the first sound Dochas' mother, Erin, hears when she opens the door. "How's the yarn making coming?" the squirrel asks in Common. The elderly grandmother looks up. "Oh, she's getting the hang of it," she says in the language of the island they came from. "Getting better every day." The Dibbun continues to try to spin yarn on her spindle. Erin holds up her basket. "Got some grain from the Abbey. The traders love your yarn, Mother." The door opens again, letting in 2 male squirrels: the Dibbun's father and grandfather. "Haha, there's my little squirrelbabe," the younger squirrel chuckles, setting down his bag and swooping Dochas up in his strong arms. She drops her spindle and laughs with glee. Erin watches, smiling. "Did you find anything, James?" The father nodded. Keeping hold of the Dibbun, he points to his bag as he sets his sword on the table. "Aye, got quite a bit of gold off some vermin who were fighting on the road. Don't even know what I did." Erin's mother scowls. "Why can't you get a good job instead of stealing all the time? Be a respectable creature." James snuggles his grinning daughter close. "I'm not stealing! I just borrow from those who can afford it!"
The fox was tall, pure black fur and a skilled fighter. Eyes narrow as he had found where the squirrels lived and hurried back to his leader. A camp of about 15 foxes as he finds a tent and goes in kneeling "I have found them, and they are in the path we seek to go my Lady"
Cecilia smirks as she nodded "Well then we will have to visit them won't we" She was a creepy silver furred vixen, a seer and her eyes seem to look into your very soul.
Unaware that danger is coming, Dochas wriggles out of her father's arms and proudly shows him her yarn. "Daddy, lookit!" James solemnly inspects the loosely woven yarn. "It's beautiful! Make more and then per'aps y'granma can make me a hat out of it!" The grandmother smiles despite her crankiness. "Oh, aye, an' maybe I can make a little vest t'keep ye from stealin' all the time." The grandfather pats the Dibbun's head. "She's a mighty clever little darlin'." Dochas does a cartwheel and scoops up her clay top. Snagging her spindle and yarn away from her father, she jumps onto the bed and snags her mother's green bag from a hook. "I's a likkle Squiwwewbabe! I stealin' like Daddy!" Erin throws her paws up in the air. "Och, mercy t' Heaven, whatever will I do without my jewelry?" Dochas starts giggling so hard she falls into a sitting position.
The foxes are lead by the 2nd in command, Bart. Bart leads them threw the path and in sight of the home. He moves his paws to single to surround the place so none escape and looks to his boss "Orders my lady?" He asks quietly.
Cecilia walks over "Burn the hut down, we need to teach woodlanders not to rob from my band of foxes. I sense this will be rememberable."
James smiles as he sets his sling and stone pouch by his sword. "Hey, now, your mummy needs those for when we go to the next feast at Redwall." Dochas slides off the bed, darts under the paws of the adults, and snags her father's sling off the table, stuffing it, her spindle, and her top into the bag. "No, I's needs it 'cause I'ma goes ta Wedwaww now!" The grandmother shakes her head. "Ye can't expect to talk her outta this when ye steal for a living." The grandfather laughs at James' slightly indignant look. "Oh, come now, sonny, ye know she's right." Erin scoops up her daughter, bag and all, and hugs the wriggling, laughing Dibbun close. "Oh, Dochas, my little hope. Maybe we should take our sweet squirrelbabe to Redwall and live there, hmm?" "They'd kick us out the moment James stole somethin'," The grandmother grumbled. James suddenly hugs her close, kissing her wrinkled cheek. "Oh, come, Mother, you act as if I haven't done great good for us...and for the world! Why, imagine how many beasts I've helped by secretly dropping supplies off at Ferravale. I'm sure we'd be just fine at Redwall." His mother-in-law tries to hide a smile as she buffeted him with some raw cotton. "Gerroff, ye curmudgeon!"
And the peace is broken as a window breaks and into the window a flaming arrow! The sounds of a group of beasts are heard outside as well, if one looks outside the beasts have archers, they have a couple torches and one sets fire to the side of the hut. The foxes are armed with many weapons as well and a couple even laugh as they seem to enjoy the soon chaos.
Cecilia smiles coldly as she watches from where she stands, she doesn't get into the fun, not yet, she mainly watches and singles where to go as she keeps a close watch over the events. These foxes have caused pain and trouble for others as well but it seems they clearly want this family to suffer even more, its sort of personal it seems.
A trio of screams echo around the small glade. Erin immediately wraps her daughter in her shawl, Dochas clinging to her mother and the bag of treasures in terror. James is immediately at a window, sword in paw. The grandparents race to the door, and they open it before their son-in-law has a chance to warn them not to. James' anger is roused. "Who are you? What do you want? Leave us in peace!" he shouts to the enemies outside.
Bart looks at the squirrel "your doom" He says in a cold voice. There is 15 foxes here. "We bring your death" A couple more arrows are fired at the hut as he chuckles. "Prehaps you should rethink whom you steal from in the future...oh wait, you won't your be dead soon"
Cecilia watches as the fire spreads and the band of vermin look ready to attack anyone who leaves the hut.
The grandparents come stumbling out of their hut, armed only with canes. James grits his teeth. "Erin, we're going to rush out there. No matter what happens, keep running! Don't stop until you get to Ferravale, or Redwall." His wife nods, tears in her eyes. James dashes out of the hut, roaring and attacking the nearest foxes with his sword. His father-in-law bravely starts hitting out left and right with his cane, and the grandmother soon follows suit. Erin runs out of the hut, trying to get away with her precious burden. Dochas is weeping uncontrollably.
Bart right away goes to attack James with his twin blades! Another couple arrows with flame hit the hut which is quickly engulfed in flames now! Some fire even gets to a small work area beside the hut as smoke rolls and fire crackles! Another couple foxes attack the old squirrels, one of the old ones get lucky and manage to hit a fox hard enough to slay them.
Cecilia looks to the running female that's holding the dibbun, "Fire an arrow!" An arrow is aimed at her and fired off by one of the skilled archers of the group.
James excels at swordplay, and he meets the fox's twin blades with his own, then brings the attack to try to buy his wife some time. Both of the old squirrels go down fighting, but they still die quickly, nonetheless, never having been fighters and being far past their prime. Erin trips and falls as the arrows find their mark, and Dochas rolls away, still wrapped in her mother's shawl and crying. "Mammy!" The Dibbun looks up and sees her grandparents dead and bleeding on the ground. She crawls over to her mother's body and shakes her. "Mammy, Mammy, wake up!" Dochas weeps. James hears her. "RUN, DOCHAS, RUN! GET OUTTA HERE, SWEETHEART, GO!!!"
Bart backs up and slices again at James, the fox gets a gash on his side as he growls and swings again at the skilled fighter. One fox tries to sneak up behind James.
Cecilia grins and goes after the dibbun squirrel "Come here brat! Your make an excellent slave and person servant for me!"
James goes to make a rapid succession of slices at Bart, then tries to stab him in the heart, unaware that another fox was sneaking up behind him. Dochas backs away quickly, tripping on the trailing edge of her mother's shawl. Frantic, the Dibbun grabs the first thing that comes to paw -- a burning branch, ignited by an ember floating on the breeze from the burning hut -- and with a scream of terror starts whacking at Cecilia's face with it.
Bart sidesteps one slice, but the blade does go into his chest as he drops his twin blades and gasps in shock. The fox behind James goes to stab him in the back while he is distracted! Bart is...well Bart is dead.
Cecilia reaches out to grab Dochas "Come my pretty....AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!" The flaming branch hits her mostly in the eyes as she screams and backs off "Kill...kill her! slay the brat!" A couple of foxes come to her aid but one trips and ends up falling on his own spear when is is knocked over by the screaming vixen.
James yells as he is stabbed, and he falls dead to the ground. Dochas takes a look around at her dead family, then stands and bolts away, the bag bouncing against her back under the shawl, sobs wracking her tiny body as she runs through the undergrowth, her tears nearly blinding her.
About 6 of the 15 foxes are dead. A couple give chase to the dibbun squirrel. A healer tries to tent to the vixen seer.
Cecilia sits down and shoves a healer away "I can tend to my own self! me and that...BRAT will meet again, I foresee it...and she will pay!"
Dochas has played in the area surrounding her home for her entire life, and without planning or realizing it, she travels the secretive routes her father had shown her, her body instinctively knowing how to get her away from the evil foxes.. It is fully dark before she stops and crawls into a hollow log, hugging her bag close. She doesn't know it, but her father's lockpicking kit is in there, too, her mother having had to repair something and put it in her bag with her jewelry box for safekeeping. The Dibbun curls in a ball and cries in the log.
A couple foxes have followed and lost track of her now. "Now what?" "I don't know...boss wants her dead"
There is a rustle in the undergrowth, and DoraRose steps out in front of the foxes, battle axe in paw. Her blue eyes are hard and dangerous. "I think your boss may get you 2 back dead if you don't scram." She hefts her axe meaningfully. She's spotted Dibbun footprints in this area, so she has a guess of what they might be looking for.
the two look at one another and chuckle, looking back at Dora "You're just a mouse maid......you don't scare us" The other grins and right away goes to try and stab the mouse.
People seem to think that since she's a female mouse, DoraRose isn't someone to be afraid of. And no one ever learns their lesson, either, because they usually end up dead. The Gatekeeper smirks, then expertly blocks the sword and goes to cleave the fox in half. Turning with skillful grace, she tries to injure the other fox (not kill him).
The one fox watches in horror as his buddy is...yep dead. He backs away and runs the other way away from the mouse! This will be an interesting report to give to the boss for sure.
Watching the remaining fox flee for his life, DoraRose nods, then cleans her axe and starts trailing the Dibbun pawprints she's found. Anyone else out here with her get picked up along the way. They would follow the prints to the hollow log, where Dochas is still hidden, crying.
Not too far away is a couple novices with a old squirrel, Brother Rick "We should head back..." He frowns noting something is not right "Maybe get back very soon we have enough herbs for the infirmary"
Crouching down, DoraRose peers into the log and sees the terrified Dibbun. "Hey, it's okay. Those bad foxes are gone now." Dochas looks up tearfully. "Bad foxies kiwweded Mammy an' Daddy an' Gammy an' Gampy!" The Warrior looks at the little squirrel with compassion. "I'm sorry, sweetheart. I'll try to find them and make them pay. What's your name?" The Dibbun sniffles fearfully. "I's a Squirrelbabe."
Brother Rick comes closer and looks at the dibbun, "Hello..." He nods "Lets get to the abbey, we can take her to the Badger Mother and the Abbot"
DoraRose nods. After a little bit of coaxing and reassuring, she is able to get Dochas to come to her. The Warrior carries the frightened squirrel to Redwall, and the next day she finds the hut, burned to the ground, and buries the bodies of the Dibbun's family with the help of some moles. But it is a very long time before Dochas tells anyone her name, insisting that they call her Squirrelbabe.

Thanks for reading!
Is Cecilia right? Will she and Dochas ever meet again? Keep watch for future logs to find out!
Yes, this is totally in the past!!
Yay for more people playing ![]()
Hey, y'all. Oz, Log-a-Log, and I are planning on doing an RP on Saturday showing the foxes killing Dochas/Squirrelbabe's family. Everyone is welcome to join and spoof foxes and, eventually, Abbey people finding Squirrelbabe in the forest ![]()
I'll be in charge of Dochas and her family, so you don't need to worry about that.
Additionally, some of the foxes died in this little battle, so if you want to join this RP but you don't want to make a fox for Zoltar's horde or Cecilia's group or whatever, you can just run one of the foxes who gets killed. No biggie ![]()
I hope y'all can join!
I'll try to let you guys know at what time we're starting on Saturday when I have a better idea of what homework I will need to work on.
This should be fun ![]()
I think this was a good place to put this ![]()
Well, if he meets DoraRose, he may find disappearing into the woods a bit more difficult xD
Thanks for the update! This should lead to a number of amusing RPs xD
yes, we need fv rp! y'all can rp without me. hopefully i can rp there soon <3
Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays (and possibly Sundays?) seem to be the more busy days.
I run Blisa, the Chieftain of Ferravale (among a whole bunch of other characters).
Welcome back ![]()
2 hares and the dab at the feast? better warn lacota
xD
i have a potentially funny idea to do where i come spoof some halyard people. can we plan to do that rp this coming Saturday (february 27th)? it should be at least a little funny....at least for me ![]()
Well, part of the issue was I didn't understand what information to put where, or what to click once I had done that. Oz and I were sending screenshots to each other trying to figure it out. So if someone who's good at connecting with clients could add greater detail to this, that would be really helpful.
And yes, I was able to connect and RP. Now hopefully I can repeat whatever steps I need to in the future....
LilyMoore would like to help in some way. However, having Spruce up there as another squirrel is good. If I'm on, perhaps Lily can help in some other way...maybe be someone helping with the ropes on the ground level or halfway up the climb or something. That's an important job, but then if I can't show up, y'all can still do the RP and I can make up some reason as to why she wasn't there ![]()
Also, Spruce is a butt head and deserves to be yelled at most of the time, but that's a conversation for another day
Oz helped me figure out the stupid MUSH Potato thing.
I don't know all the things to enter everywhere and what all to click to get to the world x.x
That guide was not helpful for my lack of knowledge ![]()
oz and log-a-log: feel free to message me or forum email me since so we can talk about my ideas in better depth ![]()
So, the MudPortal that I always use isn't working, I don't have the other client that is on my old laptop here on my new laptop, and I can't for the life of me figure out how to get to the RWMUCK on the new client I just downloaded.
HELP!!!
i must've not been reading what y'all have been posting on here correctly, so i misunderstood. my bad!
well, we can still work out something. maybe, if the whole group isn't coming near the abbey, would maybe some of the foxes to try and kill krisha? (assuming zoltar wants her dead, too.) idk, we can discuss it ![]()
and welcome back!
So, I'm talking to Oz about this, but I was thinking Cecilia and some of the foxes with her could be the group of foxes who killed Squirrelbabe's family. Squirrelbabe/Dochas would then have to overcome not only her fear of foxes, but her fear of the foxes who killed her family. I thought it would be a cool tie-in with Dochas' backstory, as well as provide cool character growth once Zoltar leads his horde back to Mossflower (whenever that may be). If y'all like this idea, I was thinking at some point we could do an RP showing them killing her family and stuff. I would run Dochas and her parents and grandparents, but everyone else could run the foxes and the Redwallers who eventually found Squirrelbabe hiding.
What do you guys think?
I do apologize for taking so long to post this log ![]()
LOG:
Krisha would not wake up and when she did she was weak and tried and just muttered. She did have water and a little broth, they let her stay in her rooom, quietier and she seemed more comfortable.
DoraRose has heard about how the badger is doing, and she has decided to visit her and talk, one widow to another. The mouse quietly enters and sits on a chair, a book in her paws. She peers at her friend, trying to determine if she's awake or not.
Krisha is awake but sort of just laying there, she does glace over when Dorarose enters but says nothing to her, just a frown and the badger has rarely left the room. The badger has skiped meals too.
DoraRose smiles when she sees her friend is awake. "Hey. I heard how you're doing, and I get it. I wanted to hide in my room and never come out or do anything ever again when my Leon died. I'm sorry this has happened." She moves to sit on the edge of the bed, unless the badger doesn't let her.
Krisha makes no move to stop her, she just sighs alightly." I....I should of told him to not help her,let someone else ....then maybe it would of been worse, I..Idon't know." Her voice is tried sounding."Maybe not...supposed to be happy"
DoraRose bows her head and thinks for a few minutes. "I don't think Xander would want you punishing yourself for all of the What Ifs," she finally says, slowly, gently. "You had no way of knowing. Just as I had no way of knowing that the day my husband saw our son off on his trip would be the day he was kidnapped. We can't know these things, and I don't think our husbands would want us punishing ourselves for things we can not control. They made their choices, and so did our enemies. There is nothing we can do about it now."
Krisha frowns and feels tears, " BUt...why, Xander was a novice, he was gonna be a brother in the order, he..." She shakes her head " I miss him, I wonder where Oz is...he dead too? I even left thinking Xander just wants to skip novice duties, not that he..died and not even that morning, he died ealier..did he fight back or was he just...."
DoraRose goes to rest a paw on the badger's shoulder. "Leon was a Brother of the Order, Master Healer of all Redwall. Nobeast can explain the thoughts of such evil creatures who would harm those who only wish to live at peace. But I can assure you that, just like my Leon, Xander fought back. I am fully confident that it was he who killed those ferrets that were in the clearing." She sighs. "I wish I knew where Oz is. But I think John is out there, looking for him. And I doubt he will stop until he has your baby back to you, and the murderer 6 feet underground."
Krisha tenses up a little, " But where, was it that cat for sure or someone else. She mentioned a friend, course...she could of just lied."
DoraRose sighs heavily. "I don't know. I wish I did. I truly do. But I am confident that John will find out. We have to trust, and hope, and have faith. Even....even though it seems stupid and crazy." She thinks for a moment. "Blisa did send us a drawing of a suspicious cat that stopped by Ferravale. She said she had given John a copy, as well. So if he is involved, John knows what to look for."
Krisha shrugs, " Maybe...another cat? Mate maybe..." She frowns at this and shakes her head." Guess whoever is, likely gone and if not, maybe they can be questioned"
DoraRose nods. "Aye, and we can trust John to do that." She tries to get the badger to look at her. "But you're not going to do Oz any good wasting away like this. I was with Leon when he died, and he made me promise him to not do what you're doing now. I know that Xander would have done the same with you had he been given the chance."
Krisha feels the tears, she don't wipe them away, " I...I feel if I..saw him die been worse than finding him dead..I..miss him so much.
I..can't....I...need left alone."
DoraRose shakes her head stubbornly. "No, you don't, Krisha. You need to be surrounded by beasts who love you. You need community. It hurts, but you need to talk to others, to those who care and who miss Xander, too. Trust me, I know. Being alone after you lose someone your life seemed to revolve around does nothing but destroy you on the inside."
Krisha finally looks at the mouse, " I feel like I am broken in a millon pieces." She lets out a sob and coughs a little bit.
DoraRose softens. "Aye, as is to be expected. You've lost something that was practically part of you. It's normal, and 'tis well that you should grieve. But you shouldn't let your sorrow drown you. Xander wouldn't want that. Ferro wouldn't want that. Your departed Dibbuns and sweet Oz -- who I'm sure is still alive -- wouldn't want that. You have reasons to live, Krisha. And we, your friends, can help you put your heart back together again. We care about you. Please let us help you."
Krisha at first turns away as if she just wants to give up...she then starts sobbing and looks back to Dora, " Xander would...say live, your right. I..have to get back to..life."
DoraRose goes to give her a hug. She doesn't say anything, just allows her friend time to cry and think for a few minutes.
Krisha does cry and then speaks again. " I...should eat more....have some water or..juice"
DoraRose nods and stands. "I'll be right back." After a few minutes, she returns, carrying a tray of soup and juice and water. "Here. Nice vegetable soup. I don't know if you could stomach a roll, so I didn't get you one."
Krisha manages to sit up. She does eat the soup and drink the water and juice and is quite as she does so." I..admit not ate much...since Xanders death, didnt want to"
DoraRose nods, staring at the floor as she remembers. "I didn't want to, either, after Leon died. I think 'tis just the way grief is. I found it hard to not just collapse from the weight of my sorrow. Leon was wise to make me promise to live."
Krisha nods, she frowns," Pain like this,it...never really goes away, does it?" She frowns." How did..Oz deal with it, how do..you?"
DoraRose thinks. "No, it doesn't, not fully. But it does soften over time. Someday their memory will become sweet again, even though there will always be sorrow. What I do is I let myself feel. If I am sad, I'm sad. If I need to laugh at something Leon once said, I laugh. If I feel upset at something we argued about or how I wish he was still here, I let myself be upset. But I let everything flow through me, memories, feelings, everything. I talk about him with my family and friends. I remind our daughter about her father, what he was like, how much he loved her. I try to honour his memory with everything I do. I'm trying to get better at my healing skills because of him. It's still hard and sad. But I think he would be proud of me, and that makes it all better." A tear courses down her cheek.
Krisha nods " I...remember the day before..." She sniffs. " Xander made..dinner, well sort of and wanted to dance, I was worried he would maybe trip or fall but he didn't, a slow dance."
DoraRose wipes away her tears and smiles softly. "That is a wonderful last memory. He loved you so much. You were blessed to have each other."
Krisha manages a weak smile "Yeah...we were. I loved him too"
DoraRose looks up at the badger. "Now what? I could probably get Zork's old wheelchair and toodle you off somewhere. If you're going to get back to living, you need to not stay in your room."
Krisha tilts her head, " There is a badger sized..wheelchair?"
"Oh, aye....oh, you weren't here when Zork was alive, were you? He was Oz's brother, and he adopted Zinnia, Xander's mother." Dora pauses, like, wow, do I feel old. She waves a paw before continuing. "There was something wrong with his heart, so he was confined to a wheelchair. He rigged it out and made it pretty awesome, actually. It's still here...in the Abbey...somewhere..."
Krisha hmm" Odd...wait he was the Blacksmith wasnt he, also his name is in the bell tower." Least she is talking, she sits up better." I think..some time outside the room would do me well and then get better to walk around"
DoraRose nods and stands up. "I'll go ask somebeast to find it." She's out of the room for a little while, then returns. "A Brother Ray thinks he knows where it is. He'll get it for you." She sits and draws her knees up to her chin. "What are you thinking of doing first? You may need to talk to Squirrelbabe. I've been training her in the ways of the Warrior to give her something to do, but she wants to go off and find Oz herself."
Krisha frowns, " SHe needs to stay...here..sides" She is quite" She can cheer me up, I care bout all the dibbuns, they..." A small smile " ARe...my dibbuns, they need me and I..been in here too long "
DoraRose nods. "Maybe you can help me get Squirrelbabe to memorize the Abbey Charter. I believe that all beasts should know the Charter, even us Warriors who don't necessarily live by it. If we keep it in our minds and hearts, it can make us into better beasts overall." The mouse grimaces. "She's not a fan of that." Brother Ray's voice can be heard out in the hall. "I found Zork's old wheelchair, Dora." The Gatekeeper smiles, then goes out and gets the chair. "Well, are you ready?" She'll help the badger as best as she can.
Krisha nods and gets carefully into the chair, " Ok we can find Squirrelbabe and go...to..well maybe by the bell tower"

Thanks for reading!
This log ICly happened like the day the hares left for Halyard. Terrence and I RPed it later due to schedule conflicts. (And I apologize for taking so long to post it
)
SCENE: Salamandastron Recruits Classroom
CHARACTERS: All hares
Terrence, male
Felicity, female
LOG:
Felicity has been doing markedly better, improving every week. She has not been returned to full active duty yet, but she has been allowed to return to some of her old duties. Over the past few weeks, she's been working with a class of Recruits about the plants in the area. She has taught them how to forage, which plants are safe and which ones aren't. Today was a test, and she is sitting at the teacher's desk, grading the students' work. The Healer that had been tagging around with her is nowhere to be seen.
Terrence, having completed the major preparations for the trip up to the village, decides to take a break for a moment or so before the hectic last minute organization begins that will no doubt happen no matter how well the sergeant prepared. Hares missing packs, weapons, or tools will no doubt scramble to get everything and the bespectacled hare hopes he can get them out the door on time - but he has a bit of peace before that. So here he is now, poking his head inside each classroom as at least one hare said who was looking for was this way. At least he comes across the room he was searching for. "Ah, Felicity!" He grins. "How've you been?"
Felicity looks up as the door opens, and her smile is almost like it was before they went to rescue the Dibbuns. "Terrence! I....I'm doing bettah. T'day 'as gone well, although may'aps not foh some o' my students." She's been teaching classes of Recruits, Privates, and even some of the older leverets, and although she's not ready for weapon training yet, she obviously is happy to be resuming her normal duties. She gestures at a couple of boxes full of plants. "Some o'th'Recruits 'ave t'take this class again, else they'll eat somethin' poisonous an' die, wot!" She smiles again. "An' o'w're y'doin'?" She still has some of that faraway look in her eyes, but she is getting better.
"Ah hell." Terrence mutters, looking at the boxes. "Can't say I'm surprised. As fo'h myself I'm about as well as I can be, considering how sullen sergeant Zolomon is - and how I'll be stuck with him. At least the ensign tries to help..." With a sigh he shakes his head. "Oh well, what can one do?" He grins again. "I /am/ very glad to see you up and about, though it's too bad I'll be away fo'h a bit at least."
Felicity looks down. "Aye, 'e an' Xandah were such good friends..." Her paw curls into a fist, and all traces of her mental break vanish as anger and determination bring back her old self. "'Tis naught but a repeat o' when Xandah was kidnapped by that accursed Jedrick. I swear on m'mothah's sword, if whoevah 'as Oz comes 'round th'Western Shores, I'll pay 'em due." She sighs and shakes her head, returning to what's been her normal for the past few months. She stands and looks into his eyes. "Please be gentle wi' Zolomon...I can imagine 'ow 'ard this is foh 'im." She doesn't address his happiness at her recovery, at least for now. "I'll miss you. Do be careful in 'Alyahd."
His expression unreadable Terrence nods. "I can't make any promises if he lets this effect the work that required doing now." He shakes his head. "But I don't really want to think about the amount of mucking we'll have to do in Halyard! I'll certainly miss you too, Lissie - and I'll try to." Allowing himself to grin once again, he adds, "Again can't make any promises but I won't joke to jinx things."
Felicity nods, then goes to take his paw in both of hers. "Tha's 'bout as close o' a promise any Patrollah can make. I guess I'll 'ave t'settle foh it." She smiles back at him. "May'ap in....in a while I'll be able t'visit down there. Get a repoht foh Lord Ciocan and such. See 'ow m'informant's doin'. Make sure y' an' Zolomon 'aven't killed each othah." She can only hope Rioko is well. That vixen is definitely on her friend list, even though they appear to not get along much of the time.
Terrence's smile deepens letting the moment linger, before cracking a laugh. "You mean that old fox who seemed to hate the world? Is she still kicking, even?"
Felicity sniffs, pretending to be offended. "She's not tha' old. Rioko's just fat. And I should 'ope she's still alive -- she owes me." Actually, that's part of how their friendship started, is that they both owe each other so much, they basically are mutually responsible for each other. She then laughs softly, but it's obvious she's suddenly fighting to not drift off into the secluded world of her mind again.
Terrence does his best to hide his snort. "Sure, just insult he'h furthah, why don't you?" He fails and laughs again, the clear sound ringing out. "And to be quite honest seems at least half the beasts o the shore owe you /something/ o'h anothah, wot."
Felicity laughs again, still trying to stay present, like Dom said she must. Like she desperately wants to. "I mean, she kinda deserves it." She then looks a little bemused. "Whot d'y'mean by tha'? I just try t'do good an' be kind. Be th'Patrollah m'parents raised me t'be. I ain't lookin' foh favours."
"Nevah said you were!" Now it's Terrence's turn to be mock-offended, though the joking tone turns somewhat serious as he thinks more about it. "I suppose what I meant was that you'h a fah more social creature than myself."
Felicity smiles a little shyly. "Well, I guess I do try t'make friends. Mum an' Da always said bein' kind may not make the beast a friend, but it may make 'em not be y'enemy, eithah." She swings his paw back and forth a little, still holding on with both of hers. "May'ap I should try t'change 'ow many friends y' 'ave, mm?" Is she joking? Or serious?
With another laugh Terrence rubs the back of his neck with his free paw. "I'd say I'm friends with the hares at the mountain that I can be friends with, at least, but I can't say much fo'h Halyard. /Especially/ considering every non-hare I've met up there's tried to stab me." He brings his free paw to hold her's in turn. "Daresay this time should be different though. I hope, otherwise the amount of paperwork the ensign'll be saddled with will drown him, methinks. And no one wants that..." Trailing off his eyes drift towards the door and hallway beyond. "I think I can hea'h the hares getting ready to set out, actually."
Felicity cracks a smile. "Well, maybe this time can be different. Most Patrollahs believe tha' th'only good vermin is a dead one, and treat all vermin as such. They're only actin' out o' fear an' self-preservation. May'ap y'c'n show 'em not all 'ares are like that." She, too, hears the sounds of preparation, and she goes to hug the buck, closing her eyes tightly in the hopes he won't notice her struggle to stay present...or the tears threatening to spill down her cheeks. "I'll try t'see if I c'n visit you lot soon."
"Hopefully so." Terrence hugs her back, worry briefly flooding his face as he does notice that something's off, but he leaves it be for now. "Well, until you can visit us goodbye fo'h now." He'll allow her to end the hug, though he looks at her with a kind smile. "Can't say I'm eageh to go, really...Also, Lissie -" The smile turns more wry and sheepish, "On a more I suppose practical note, aftah Zolomon and I are gone, you'll be the company sergeant here fo'h the time being. I wouldn't worry to much as the recruits now thei'h business and have come a long way, and that troublesome Wors-." He pauses for a beat, trying to remember the last name again, "Worsh-ski, o'h- well, you bloody well know who I mean -I ordered him to come along with us, so it /should/ be all smooth here. And you've got captain Greg here to help, which I might envy you fo'h! Anyway, farewell fo'h now and I'll miss you!"
Felicity keeps hold of him a little longer, listening to his heart beat. The only response he gets to his first set of comments is a tiny squeeze. But when he starts mentioning their job, she relaxes, and when he's done talking she steps back, nodding. "Right...I think I c'n do it....may 'ave t' 'ave Greg do the weapon training foh a while yet. But wi' Whisowski wi' you, 'twill be bettah." When he leaves, she waves. "'Ll miss y'terribly...bring me back somethin'! 'Twill 'elp y'keep y' 'ead above watah, so t'speak, wot!" When he's gone, she sits back down and wipes a tear away before she gets back to grading...
