#251 Re: Logs » IC RWA RP January 19th, 2021 » 2021-01-19 07:48:07 PM

Continued from above

Benar shakes his head and settles back in his chair, he trusts Dora will divert the little squirrel with things as required that are just warrior enough without teaching her anything too strenous. He nods at John and sighs, "I should return to my paperwork, I need.. to keep the abbey running despite all of this"

John watches the squirrel and mouse leave, his expression unreadable. In response to the squirrelbabe's reasoning he mutters something to him, especially in light of recent events. "Ah wish that were so, wee one." He falls quiet again, wandering over to test how dry his things are. He nods to the father abbots words but stays as silent - though when he spies the badger mother o the stairs he comes back to himself. "Krisha - greetings!' He does his best to convey any welcoming joy he has with a smile to her, though in light of the recent of events it falters.

Krisha gives a short nod, "Hi " She says quietly and comes the rest of the way into the room.

Benar says, "Oh Krisha," he smiles and moves over and touches her arm, "It is good to see you down here..... I really should get back to work but John will keep you company" "

In normal circumstances John might have fled in response to being volunteered to keep somebeast company, though he wrangles that part of himself now. "Farewell, father abbot!" He calls after the older squirrel, before turning to the badger. "Th' beaver placed a kettle fore tea earlier, he did, an' th' water may yet be hot, methinks." He's moving rather aimlessly about, thinking though very aware of the other creature. "Krisha -" he begins, "How're ye holding up?"

Krisha sits in her chair, for now not speaking, she shrugs with a frown "I.." She leans back in her chair going quiet again. "No..tea, you have.....some"

A wry grin appears on John's face despite himself. "Nae thank ye, Ah actually donnae much care fore it meself." He looks down at his paws again, unsure how to proceed. "Krisha - it might be o'wee comfort tae ye, but from all me searching Ah believe Ah safely can say yore Oz isnae dead." The squirrel shrugs, still standing. "That's rather troubling still, bu' nowhere as bad as well, well." A sigh escapes him.

Krisha frowns, "He...could be anywhere and..." She stops least she have a breakdown, she clears her throat after a moment"Some one...mentioned a knockout dart, maybe he...tried to run" She founds in thought of  Oz very likely seeing his father die as a few tears fall now

John freezes, not all that sure what he can do, before accepting that fact. "Ah donnae think he's alone, though, so that's something even if th' company he has are what we think they are. An' badgers are hard creatures tae hide or miss." He takes a seat across from her, leaning forward to rest his elbows on his knees. "A knockout dart's more hopeful than an arrow, fore that means they donnae wan'tae kill him. He's still out there fore sure. Which means we can bring him back, it does."

Krisha speaks" If find him....they......how in all the ice and...snow"

Allowing himself a brighter expression John replies, "Th'deep snow makes them easier to find - ye can't hide the tracks 'less ye've got a blizzard on yore paws, an' Ah were luckily enough tae get there before h'fresh snow we got yesterday an'taeday. While Ah cannae tell th' exact beast's paw through a boot, Ah can make a guess it were a large creature - Ah'm already thinking 'twas that cat, as well as another one like her, methinks, judging from h'size o'boot. An' a cat or twa' witha wee badger is nae something most folks would forget. Ah'm gonnae go out again tae ask 'bout th'woods."

Krisha says, "Oz needs to be home, not....where ever he is, he needs found before I...lose him too...found alive if possible"

"Aye, Ah'm certain everyone here an' ye especially want that." John leans back into the chair rubbing the bridge of his snout. "Problem is - it'll take time an' Ah cannae go with out rest fore days on end. Ah'll go out once again in an hour, though Ah cannae promise Ah'll return with any news."

Krisha sighs "Rest till....morning, rest  is good to focus better...what ever clues will..likely remain...probably"

John dips his head. "Indeed, though truth be told Ah'm mostly here fore a quick warm meal an' tae dry me outer clothes -" He waves to his things by the fireplace, "An' tae relate what Ah've found. Ah'll be fine once those are dry." Standing as he says this he goes over to check the cloak and other things. Mostly dry. "An' Krsha," he starts, in a far more quiet voice, "Ah'm sorry 'bout Xander, an' Ah'm sore regretting Ah talked little wi'him th'past seasons. Ah was proud o' him, methinks, fore being a novice. He did what Ah cannae..." He chuckles at himself, a mirthless sound belaying some deeper digest with himself. With a shake of his head he grabs his things and quickly puts them on, nodding in farewell to Krisha before the other creature can say another word or even acknowledge what the squirrel said or implied of himself- and John is back outside, heading for the north gate and Mossflower beyond in the dying light of day.

Gorvenalus, a beaver, and John, a squirrel.

It had been a rather dreary day up to this point, though the bad weather did keep most inside. John had taken advantage of this and had escaped from his own self-imposed seclusion without meeting a single soul, so despite the grey clouds above him and the deep snow beneath him he reveled in the general silence of the grounds. That was until around noon when there was a great cacophony at the gate: someone horrible had happened. He'd only just rounded the corner of the abbey when he witness some healers moving something large into the main building and he froze, dread filling his heart. Since then he'd paced around the entrance area, trying to read the mass of paw prints in the deep snow. Alas, all he knew was that either Krisha or Xander had been with the throng. "Probably Xander, seeing as th'badger-mum would sure no' leave 'less one o' th' wee ones were out..." He says to himself, "Probably should go find 'im t'make sure, Ah should."

Gorvenalus decided to get a little fresh air as a path was cleared so beasts could get fresh air if they wanted to, course the snow was still around or least most of it was, that was still an annoying issue to deal with. The old beaver sighed as he looked around. He had yet to update any abbey logs, he would soon. He rubs a sore shoulder and glances around. It was fairly quiet right now just a few inside walking around doing chores for the afternoon.

"Brother Gorvenalus, aye?" John bites the bullet and asks the old beaver. Easier to ask the recorder than search an entire abbey. "Ah'm fearing what news might comes from yore mouth, Ah do, though Ah'm asking all th' same." The squirrel stops within a few paces of the other creature. "D'ye know what happened at th'gates a wee while ago?"

Gorvenalus frowns "Yes, a dear friend was found...dead"He shakes his head" Found in a clearing slightly north of the abbey, guess a small sort of path was made from the road maybe, I..I didn't ask.Just part way the beasts used snowshoes to get there...and back."He frowns again "We also have a missing dibbun and no signs of where they were taken or who took them. There is some suspicions it was a guest we had for a short few days but sadly the only one who knows that for sure, is dead"

There's a long silence that settles in after the word dead, and it's some moments before John responds. "Ah... assumed as much, Ah did." The words are cautious, searching, as his tail swishes back and forth behind him. "An' who were this dear friend? An' th' dibbun as well?"

Gorvenalus dusts some snow off a chair to sit down"Xander Winters, he is sadly dead...killed" He frowns "His son Oz is the one missing, but we have no clue who is responsible for  these deeds, I was told there was a couple ferrets, the ferrets were dead and some tracks were mostly covered with some snow"

Once again there's some time before John speaks, though the air seems heavier. The squirrel bows his head for a moment and keeps his eyes downcast, staring at the snow below. "Where'd it happen?" He looks up suddenly, his eyes holding fire. "Twa' ferrets cannae 'ave killed Xander alone, an' wee Oz didn' jus' wonder off on his own. Where did they find th' body? Even if there were snow fall 'tween now an' then, it cannae erase everythin' in a few hours, it cannae."

Gorvenalus frowns, "I am unsure all I got from the news was clearing just to the north.I didn't go with them. Velm, Dorarose and mother Krisha left the abbey, returning maybe an hour or so later and mentioned when Xander was found and something about a knockout dart."He was more focused on where Xander was found, he also was one of them looking at wounds "Who ever ...killed Xander, stabbed him twice in the chest, one I believe came out the back..some other cuts and bruises one gets in a fight...someone clearly was with the two ferrets, they likely worked for..well someone clearly and that someone has Oz I am sure of it"

John listens quietly, though at the mention of a dart an eyebrow raises. "Did they bring th' dart back, ye know?" The squirrel can't contain feeling of anger welling up as he begins pacing back and forth. "Ah'll need to find who did this, Ah do. An' Ah will."

Gorvenalus hmms "I don't know...maybe ask Dorarose or the hare Velm, one of them may have it."

"Well, if ye'd like tae 'elf me, ye can dae tha' fore me." John says, quickly as he starts for the guard house. "Ah'm gonnae g'up tae h'clearing an' see if Ah cannae find something, Ah am, though Ah'll probably b' back 'fore dark. Maybe." He shakes his head, muttering something unheard as he goes to receive his gear. It'll be a hard few days for the abbey, that's for certain.

Gorvenalus nods "I will stay at the abbey, maybe ask the hare Velm, perhaps he will help"

WAIT XANDER'S DEAD????!!!!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHJGHJHJKGHJ

on a slightly less dramatic note, I was wondering if I could bring John into this plot - especially now that Xander is killed and baby Oz missing. If Log-a-log's ok with it I'd be interested in having John for the foreseeable future do his damnedest to investigate Xander's death and figure out who or what caused it - after that, he'll follow the cold trail of whoever did it as he was rather fond of the xander ;-;

I'd be willing to have him (John) always be one or three steps behind Zoltar & Co for a long time, and when he does find Zoltar he won't try attacking but just observe and spy from the shadows and maybe sabotage terrorize any followers of Zoltar until the wildcat makes his move back to Mossflower (or not we can see what happens!)

Also, I was thinking of bringing in my vermin character Atticus after Zoltar does a few more village razings to maybe help fund Zoltar's horde on behalf of some shadowy group Atticus works for

So I believe we all got he page mail Koda sent the LP saying they had to quit the muck and saying Koda can stay at the mountain as an NPC so I just wanted to make a thread to discuss this.
I was one of the people they said could spoof Koda, though I really don't see why I would - so I'm probably not going to unless asked to/play him during an RP event after someone else had to leave, like I did with the toads a year or so back

Anyway, I was thinking that since he was kinda vague in the role of adjutant I think he should just be elevated to being Quinton's and Ciocan's adjutant which is more or less an assistant/secretary which I'd argue they need XD
Plus maybe update his rank to some sort of commissioned officer for ceremonial purposes as pretty much all adjutants were/are COs
What are you all thinking?

#257 Re: The Long Patrol » Current LP Members Thread » 2021-01-06 06:50:20 PM

Right, done!
I've also moved Koda to the inactive list as his player had to quit

#258 Re: RP Chat » Updates on the Adventures » 2021-01-06 06:37:44 PM

about the lack of machinery/historical accuracy - I don't think the biggest problem is that it would be historically inaccurate, but the fact that there aren't any draft animals in Redwall - cattle, horses, donkeys, etc - is. And that lack of even just horse throws of being accurate to history right out the window because the use cavalry is one of the most defining features of the medieval period.
and I will fully admit that the LP uniforms I've designed are terribly anarchistic as I've pulled from Rome, the Swiss, the New Model Army, the Napoleonic wars, the US Civil war, and the Royal Air Force - that last one being what Brian originally based the LP on so blame the author tongue
Heck even the idea of cloth uniforms instead of just similar armor is really from the 1640s with the English Civil War's NMA.
Now, my character John on the other hand... If he was a human he'd fit right in with mercenaries of the mid-to-late 1400s as that was what I was going for with his gear - all of it is from that period or was in still use at the time

NOW for all snow; to keep the consistent level of snow it would have to snow somewhat regularly as whenever the sun is out the top would melt. Now, this also has the effect of the melting snow refreezing into a somewhat solid layer which is safe to walk on the more and more the snow gets packed down, for the most part. Every so often one might step down too hard or the layer isn't as solid as the rest and one breaks through and falls down into the deep snow which can be a pain to get out of. Also, I'd argue that certain animals, a squirrel for instance, should have no problem going over the top of the snow as they are light enough (or at least not that dense) to not break through.
Also also, for places like the abbey, wide wooden planks can by laid down atop the snow to make a walk way - the snow would get pressed down somewhat forming a small trench, but it would be safe to walk on as the snow underneath would be packed pretty solid.
...as a side note, maybe I should have John teach people how to make quick snow shoes as he is from the northlands and I rarely bring that fact into RP ( and he could help move letters and goods and stuff between places as he is a squirrel and could easily use the trees to get from place to place as five feet of snow can't stay in the branches of even the strongest oak)

As for the flooding; it would have to be slow as that amount of snow would take weeks of constant sun to melt completely. So the road side ditch and any low field or place (like the south wall of the abbey) would pool with water over time in the spring + plus the river Moss would swell and probably flood the land around it

#259 Re: RP Chat » Updates on the Adventures » 2021-01-02 03:21:39 PM

Oh yeah, the 12th should work for me - and honestly any day that's not a Thursday
I'm sorry I've not been on (and I still wont be on today as family stuff is happening)
For Halyard Terrence will be advocating for establishing some sort of semi permanent camp as the distance between the mountain and the village is upwards of four hours, plus it would give safer shelter to anyone who had homes damaged in the storm
As for Zoltar - I'd love to do some RP with him with either Atticus or John, in part to introduce ideas for future plot ideas I have, which I'll probably make a discussion post bout when I have time, and in part to use those two characters again because boy have they been on a back-burner

#260 Re: RP Chat » Terrence's/John's/Atticus' persoanl RP schedule+an update » 2020-12-29 07:00:33 PM

YO SORRY ABOUT DROPPING OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH
its been busy, and i probably wont be on till after new years
HOWEEEEVER, i wanna start some more complicated RP plot lines while its still winter involving my character John and possibly Spruce and Atticus, as well as doing that stuff in Halyard with Terrence
(and im sorry lee and dom that we havent been able to rp with lossow, monty, and adrian)
ill probably make a dedicated post later when i have more time!

#261 Re: The Long Patrol » Current LP Members Thread » 2020-12-20 02:35:47 PM

Yeah, though I'm leaving that page for now as I have a rather large overhaul I want to do for the LP divisions to include stuff like battalions, companies, and stuff. I just need to actually sit down and write it all out and share it with you guys instead of just coming up with ideas XD

#262 Re: The Long Patrol » Current LP Members Thread » 2020-12-19 03:11:00 PM

So I updated most of the LP Wiki pages to include NPC every time Donica is listed, as well as moving her entry in the hares of the mountain to the archive page as she isn't an active player character anymore. If Krisha ever wants to play as her as a full character again it's just a simple matter of copy/paste tongue
I also updated some of the other pages to include Varus and Lossow as well as updating Greg's, Adrian's, and Monty's ranks.

I've remove nearly all of my own NPCs that are included on the wiki lists for the sake of cleaning up; I had around eight listed for me when I only use two-to-four of them XD

Edit: I also bit the bullet and moved Jinora and Isla to the former members archive - I'm holding off on doing the same to Riley as I see her alts on from time to time and I'm still holding on to hope that they'll come back at some point

#263 Re: The Long Patrol » Long Patrol - Casual Scenes and Events » 2020-12-09 05:32:00 PM

Right! I misread Sunday as Saturday in Elmef's reply, so sorry about the confusion whoops! Sunday works just about as well as Saturday for me, so my question still stands; would it be possible to RP the blizzard tomorrow and the storm on Sunday?
also thats good that you're okay blisa

#264 Re: The Long Patrol » Long Patrol - Casual Scenes and Events » 2020-12-09 02:43:08 PM

Unfortunately, I probably will not be able to make it tomorrow as Thursdays are always super busy for me (or at least the around time that most people RP at 3PM MST/5 PM EST/10 Pm GMT)
I'll try to get on and I would like to, but I will more than likely be unable to

An edit:
Would it be possible to switch the OOC timing of the blizzard and the storm so the former is on Thursday and the latter is on Saturday? Admittedly it might be confusing for people in RP as the events would be out of order, but I think more LP players (.....mainly myself) can get on during the weekend compared to the week. If not that's alright I'll just make do and probably just do a photobomb (rp-bomb? cameo? idk) tomorrow XD

#265 Re: The Long Patrol » Long Patrol - Casual Scenes and Events » 2020-12-03 09:00:42 PM

I'm been thinking a bit about what's been said about Salamandastron's height and in particular how high up the first floor is, and I wanted to add this: most mountains, hills, and especially volcanoes all have diameters that's at least more than twice their height (usually more).
Where am I going with this? even if the main gateway/entrance of Sala is on the beach does not mean the passageway leading into the mountain and the first floor is on the beach level and, in fact, if the entrance of Sala can get hit by waves/flood slightly, it makes the most sense that the passageway into the mountain would slope up somewhat to avoid the water splashing down a level plain, because even if it was dug by ancient hares/badgers long forgotten they'd still look at the sea right there and say "we should probably prepare if that ever changes in a mild storm or tide or something, just in case".

Okay, so the following is all a rough estimate: lets say Sala is around 500ft tall with a diameter of say 550 (way too short for my liking because that's not even what I'd call a tall hill but anyway XD), lets say the passageway would be around 250 ft long to give around a diameter of 50 feet to the central room around the main staircase at the center of the mountain. Now lets say the the rise is like 2 inches every 3 ft (which is a gentle slope (around 2 degrees whereas most walking slopes are around 4.8 degrees), but by the time it hits the first floor it would be around 12-14 feet up, which is around a story tall. And that's all being rather conservative with the estimation - if Sala was more than 1000 ft tall the height of the first floor could easily be 50 ft above the beach, if the main passageway into the mountain is sloped upwards. i don't know what made me do the math besides morbid curiosity but i did it.
Also here's a rather inaccurate cut-away map considering what we've been talking about that also has an exaggerated verticality I made of Sala if anyone's interested:
Sala-Verical-Map-Copy.png
i'll probably redo it someday if i have the time

The basement can always be deeper too (and probably should be...), as Elmef said there's probably massive gaps between floors.
Now concerning the escape tunnel I may be incorrect, but I thought the escape tunnel, at least as it's been represented on the MUCK, was somewhere deep within the catacombs (regardless of its description in the books)?

now to change my reply's topic for a moment!
Halyard never recovered from the last massive storm that was in like 2010-2012, right? So this storm would ruin the town completely - which would give the LP enough IC justification to try and reestablish a more permanent presence in the town like I had suggested trying to do in this thread earlier.
Heck, even the LP potentially building a fort in/around Halyard can be partly explained as offering the town residents a safe shelter for when bad storms come again in the future (or shelter if Halyard is ever attacked....)

#266 Re: Redwall Abbey » Misc: IC Stuff: Redwall » 2020-11-28 05:30:14 PM

Oh yeah, fair enough. Drifts are a different beast entirely from just straight snowing, and I kinda forgot about them because snow melts too fast where i live to form them, my bad!
so go crazy guys XD

#267 Re: The Long Patrol » Long Patrol - Casual Scenes and Events » 2020-11-28 05:28:31 PM

I should clarify what I said about the ship rescue was purely how Terrence will react IC because I think we should do it tongue

#268 Re: Redwall Abbey » Misc: IC Stuff: Redwall » 2020-11-28 03:39:59 PM

In a place where it snows regularly (so say MN as I'm very familiar with that state) 2 feet of snow in November could last until May - disregarding all the other times it would snow in between those months. Ten feet at once is a bit overkill, as that's number more or less only gotten in either the extreme north (like Siberia or northern Canada) or in mountain ranges (CO has the record deepest snow record in the continental US at around 6 feet deep in 24 hour period in the 1920s), but arguably just 2 feet of snow could be a big deal to Redwallers if we take animal scale into account (which I feel is always the more fun thing to do, even if it's just a ballpark tongue)

.......to deal with all the snow there's always digging tunnels in it to make pathways  + when the storm is done and the sun peaks out, the top layer of snow will probably melt and refreeze as a somewhat solid layer that people can walk on (but not everywhere! be careful of breaking through into the snow below...)

#269 Re: The Long Patrol » Long Patrol - Casual Scenes and Events » 2020-11-28 03:23:14 PM

not to rain on everyone's parade (no pun intended) but I feel like there's one major thing being over looked when it comes to the flooding: Salamandastron is a literal mountain tongue

Here's artsy map of it from the Wiki, though I'm not at all sure how accurate it is: Rwsalamandastron.jpg
A mountain is usually at least 1,000 feet above sea level (though that would just mean a large hill according to some ....and me), though I'd imagine it's more like 2,000-3,000 feet as it is an inactive and mostly un-eroded volcano - why is that important? because from the descriptions in the books and on the MUCK, it seems that nearly all of the interior of Salamandastron is clustered near the top which makes sense as, the further one tries to dig/build underneath a mountain, the harder and harder it gets, and it isn't dirt or sand - it's solid rock. To get below sea level would require pretty much modern machines which we can safely rule out anyone in RW having ever. Maybe the oldest/deepest/longest parts of the old tunnels of Sala would be able to flood as they do go down (but more than likely all run close to the surface sloping down instead of straight down). i might try and make a simple map of a normal mountain to try and show this later...
Even the largest surge of water from hurricanes don't go higher than roughly 30 feet (usually) - it would break upon the slopes of the mountain long before reaching anything within Sala. Mountains are massive and no matter how much digging the LP has done over the years, I doubt it would be deep enough to be affected by flooding from a storm surge, plus any flooding that did occur in the tunnels would more than likely drain out almost as quickly as it would come (n account of everything being high up and sloping down towards sea level).
Perhaps rainwater coming in from the crater could do the trick, but considering the time of year - December - it'd be snowing up there.

That also touches on the other thing I wanted to add: the temperature. Considering that it's winter it will be freezing, though not as cold as it could be due to the sea (as large bodies of water regulate temps of coastal land) - except once again, Sala is a mountain. Even a change in roughly thirty feet (~9 meters) can have a drop in temperature as large as 20 degrees, especially if there is a mountain involved, so we shouldn't forget that. Pls mountains do weird things to weather as even a lone one like Sala is basically an unmoving pillar of stone that will block a lot of wind, rain, and whatever else a storm has to offer reaching high up into the sky (compared to the land around it). Think of it as kinda how a rock effects stream current and can make drastic changes to the flow of water, the wind and rain of a storm act somewhat similar around massive objects like mountains as water does flowing around rocks, just on a far far bigger scale.
tl;dr:
Sala is too tall to flood any of the living areas, the storm surge couldn't make it up that far, if flooding were to occur it wouldn't last at all, and while the temperature around Sala and the sea might not be as cold as somewhere inland such as Redwall, it would still be freezing out as it's is winter (the water might not be frozen but it would still kill someone trying to take a dip - if the waves and rain didn't get them first).
sorry for the wall of text I just felt we all forgot Sala is a literal mountain and that mountains are freaking HUGE and since i've lived near mountains for most of my life i needed to say something XD

Edit: also considering the rescue mission, I can safely predict Terrence will advocate leaving the sailors to their fate because not only is the water extremely dangerous due to the cold, wind, and rain, but that the sailors did arguably one of the stupidest things in non-tropical water: going to sea in the winter, especially in late November/December. It would waste too many hares for sailors who shouldn't be sailors

Pvt. Dom,
Sgt. Felicity,
Sgt. Terrence,
and Lt. Velm.

As a rule, Terrence avidly avoids the recreation room at all times - especially during the evening when all hares flock to waste away their free time. However, today it's mostly empty on account of the dinnertime hour in the mess, so the sergeant is taking advantage of the deserted room (and perhaps snag a drink or two from the bar while he's at it) to eat alone.

Velm slips quietly as he can into the room and goes to order an ale before sitting down at one of the tables close to Terrence.

Having settled in and pawing through an old report while eating, Terrence adjusts his spectacles. "Sah." He says in acknowledgement of the Lt yet without looking up. He's clearly engrossed in both food and book.

Velm glaces over as he takes a long drink of ale "Hallo......" He studies him and sighs "Great...someone else not fully remembering" More to himself than anyone really, yes he remembers a couple hares and oh course he remembered the badger.

Terrence tenses at Velm's words, looking up at the other hare. "Meaning what sah?" He cautiously asks after a moment. The report (and food somewhat) is somewhat forgotten now.

Velm finishes his ale before he speaks "Most I knew...heck my whole unit, was...killed in that fight, some I remember 'ere...others suppose joined later on or during that 6..or 8 season bit of time I was away, away cause of dofferent issues..till finally came back"

Ever so slightly Terrence breathes a sigh of relief. He'd expected something else, but no matter. "I see, sah." There's another pause as he thinks on how best to answer the Lt. "I was serving at the time, though due to some let's just say good luck?" The sergeant shrugs. "I was held back from going to Redwall. We all know some hares who died, o'h went missing."

Velm nods "Well...seems most were found..cept one" He dusts off some dirt on his sleeve "And that was me and I still don't fully remember it. Someone said I should be glad ta not remember maybe"

"...Perhaps they were right." Terrence goes back to his food and reading, though he does add, "I daresay I'd want to forget when us left behind were told. Fa'h as I can tell, it's one of the worst, well," the words he wants to use might not be fitting, "Losses the patrol has had. Though losses make it sound like a damned game."

Dominik had also made the assumption that the rec room would be generally empty at this time of day, and so the massive hare steps...or rather ducks...into the room. His eyes sweep over the sparsely occupied room, before he trudges his way in the general direction of the bar. A drink definitely sounded pretty good at the moment, despite the large buck really not being that big a fan of ale. He plops himself down on a stool, which creaks in protest, and he perches there, staring at the wall as he gestures to the barkeep to bring him something. Which he does, a few moments later.

Velm shrugs "A great loss....yes. But being back is good suppose also" He shakes his head "Long as hares are serious  in training, we have a small group of recruits that are....welll..need a lot of work, the main trouble left so maybe they will feel  like improoveing" He hmmms "Maybe leaving them with the new Ensign was a bad idea, but he does have ta learn to have leadership skills"

Terrence 's jaw tightens as training and recruits are mentioned. He was very much aware of their attitude, and he'd had his own plans for them - but he was wise enough to not say that now. At least not the entirety of it. "Yes, he does need to learn that." Once again he seems careful his choice of words. "I've been more o'h less in charge of the recruits - and privates - fo'h some seasons now. Dom there," he waves to the big hare who had failed to go unnoticed, "Has helped quite a fai'h bit as well in that regard. Though now days you're more prone to working with leverets, eh?" He calls over to the private.

Dominik's ears perk as he half-listens to the conversation behind him, the buck sipping from his tankard as he attempts to wind down from whatever training session he had just arrived from. A smirk slips across his muzzle as he is addressed by Terrence. "Hrm," he grunts, his ears giving a waggle. "Some days, is difficult to tell apart," he replies, his rumbly voice deadpan in his reply. "Only difference is, recruits do not draw on arms vith crayons." He shifts a little on his stool, though he had made sure to bathe after his latest bout of leveret-watching...all remnants of color in his fur having been washed out, leaving behind the mottled mahogany and white of his changing fur.

Velm also seems to think on what to say as he clears his throat "Maybe...you can help the Ensign then Sargeant...I can help with other matters, you can help best maybe with those trouble maker recruits. I do have some other things ta tend to like the infirmary...I have kind of became the main healer for now...maybe permit, we shall see wot his Lordship says I guess as I have yet to ask"

"I'd bloody-well hope recruits wouldn't draw on you," Terrence gives a look of mock horror. "Though to be quite honest I wouldn't put it past them." His expression changes to a more unreadable face as Velm speaks. "Indeed, sah, though that's what I have been doing, o'h at least that's my understanding of it. But you do as you see fit, sah."

Dominik chuckles. "In most cases, vould be too tired to even try..." he replies to Terrence. "Vich is intended result." Anyone who's happened to witness a Dominik training session likely would understand. He takes another sip from his tankard. "Training is not times for fun and games, is time for readying for battle. Vil do vat it takes to get them to understand this." He glances back over his shoulder to the other two, before his gaze returns to the wall in front of him. "Is reason vhy Dom is not liked by recuits."

Velm listens to them both and speaks "I think recruits dislike a lot of us...but yes...Sargeant would you like to take over helping Elbio with those 4 recruits? He should have some  higher rank with him who has recently trained some recruits and knows more of wot  has been happening lately, I still need to catch up sadly. I will still train the lad to fight and  give him some tips on being a furture Lt, he seems promiseing so far as I gave seen"

"Yes." Terrence starts to clean up his dishes and gently sets the old report safely out of the way. "Recruits don't much like anyone who tells them to do anything, least of thei'h drillahs." Standing he meanders over to the bar. "I'd be more worried 'bout what the privates and up think of you, Dom, as they're the ones we have to rely on in a fight. And most seem to at least respect you even with you'h oddities." Read: Erg. "As fo'h the recruits with Elbio," the sergeant leans on the bar and looks back to Velm, "I've had them training in lance-corporal Greenhill's squad when Elbio's not been around. Though I'm still waiting on a new corporal o'h two to really make a difference." He adds, pointedly, to Dom. "But we don't have any, yet."

Dominik hmmms, the large hare glancing down at Terrence as he joins him at the bar. "Is not job to get others to like, is job to make sure they can do Patrol proud in battle..." he replies. "If is needed to whip into shape and stop nonsense, send Dom's vay. Vil make sure is not causing problems for command." He glances to Velm for a moment, before looking back to Terrence. "Vas also vondering. Ven Dom vas leaving from speaking vith Felicity, you vere vanting to speak vith? Is apologizing for leaving so soon, but...had things to deal with at time."

Velm stands up and nods to Terrence "Congrats..you get to help those  4..." He hmm lost cause?..no too strong "Umm..well..help Elbio  to.." Not go insane but he doesn't say this. "Help him with thos ...recruits they need a lot...ton of help and he likely does as well..." He gets his ale and takes it with him.

It takes a moment for the sergeant to remember what Dom was talking about. "Ah yes! That." But as the lieutenant leaves and says his piece Terrence gives a farewell salute and a "Of course, sah." After a pause, the bespectacled hare looks down at his feet with a mild chuckle. "Don't suppose I should've told him 'bout how I prefah the little blightahs to be trained in groups of ten, eh?" Taking in a deep breath and sighing, the sergeant turns back around to face the bar. "About what I wanted to talk to you about, Dom, yes..." He gestures for a drink. "To make a long story short - I want you to be a corporal. O'h lance-corporal at the very least. Only problem," he takes a long draft of his rum, "Is that the good majah wants to see if you'h right capable of the rank before signing off on the idea. You understand?"

"Where y'wanna go now, Miss Rosinbloom?"  The voices in the hallway grow louder, yet the mumbled reply is still to quiet to be understood by those in the rec room.  The door opens, revealing Felicity, dressed in her uniform with a heavy shawl around her shoulders, followed by the Healer who's been taking care of her since she came back from Gorax's island.  "Oh, look, 'tis Terrence an' Dom!  I guess 'twas th'best room foh us t'go into, wot!"  Felicity smiles slightly, her gaze a little vacant, but she's obviously trying to stay present in the moment.

Dominik listens to Terrence quietly as he speaks, his eyes focused forward. Occasionally he lifts his mug to take a drink, but he generally remains silent as he mulls over what the other buck is saying. His eyes shifting down towards his tankard, he stares down at it, his ears twitching every now and then. Finally, he responds..."Dom is appreciating the recommendation, sir. And is understanding vhy is needing to prove self. But can tell you, is thinking Dom is more than capable of handling vatever it is that vil be put in his path. Just let know vat must do to prove, and vil do it to best of abilities." He hears the commotion at the door, glancing back as the door opens and Felicity enters with the healer. A smile briefly flickers upon his muzzle, and he motions for the doe to join he and Terrence at the bar. The healer gets a look. "...er, Dom vants to apologize for actions in infirmary, earlier."

"Well it's not fo'h proving anything to me, Dom." Terrence replies taking another sip. "Just to please the Majah. I'll hand those recruits we've mentioned off to you, you can sort..." Trailing off as he too hears the noise he turns with a look of surprise and steps away from the bar. "Felicity!" He's clearly in a bit of shock at seeing her up and about, though there is a wide smile on his face. "What - well, what brings you up here?" The healer is ignored by the sergeant.

Felicity smiles and slowly walks over to her friends, the Healer happily trailing behind.  "I'd gotten tired o' th'Infirm, y'know?  I wanted t'walk 'round an' see whot's goin' on."  The Healer waves a paw at Dominik.  "Oh, don't y'worry about a thing.  Y' 'elped Miss Rosinbloom, all is well."  Felicity is halfway across the room.

Dominik slips off of the stool he'd been sitting on, which likely wasn't handling the buck's weight very well in the first place, and he makes his way over towards Felicity to assist her over to where he and Terrence are, at the bar. "Good," he replies to the doe, with a wider smile. "Is good to get out, is step in right direction. Infirm is very boring, at times. No offense," he replies to the healer. Dom had definitely spent his share of time in the infirmary throughout his time in the mountain, for sure. "But is nice to see. Here, come sit by Terrence, is glad to see..." he replies with a chuckle, the buck definitely noting his expression when Felicity arrived as he leads Felicity over towards one of the barstools. "Vas just speaking of recruits, privates and leverets, and how sometimes, is hard to tell difference between them..."

Terrence also steps forward to help if needs, though now he sin't quite sure what to do, not now at least. Dom's last comment, however, seems to snap the sergeant out of his daze. "HA!" He snorts, "At least my privates should know which way to point a speah, unlike all the rest! Least I hope so." Now by the bar again, he waves vaguely at the seats. "Yes, yes, please sit. Though," he rethinks, "Admittedly you've had nothing to do but sit in the infirmary until now... "

Felicity accepts Dom's help and sits on the stool.  "Yeah, but...I've been wanderin' 'round fo' hours.  I'm a little tired."  The Healer shrugs.  "Th'Infirmary's borin' when y'got nothin' t'do.  'Tis naught but a fact.  An' y'usually can't do anythin' when you're tryin' t'get bettah, wot!"  Felicity cracks a smile at her friends when they mention the Recruits and Privates and leverets.  "Oh, they're easy t'tell apaht, wot!  Lev'rets are cute an' cuddly an' usually don't insult y', even when they'h disobeyin'.  Recruits an' Privates could nevah be described tha' way."  There's a twinkle in her eye, and for a moment the vacancy in her gaze vanishes.

Dominik grins a little to Felicity, "Yes. And also, vould never lay a paw on a leveret for any reason, even if they vere misbehaving...but definitely have no issue vith tossing recruit vith smart mouth at nearest wall..." he chuckles. "Speaking of visits to infirm, is afraid a few by recruits vere because of not listening to Dom vhile trainings..." He motions for the barkeep to bring Felicity something warm to drink, as she sits on the barstool between he and Terrence. "On same note, vas just mentioning about putting Dom in charge of private group who do not seem to listen. Vat does Felicity think of this idea?" The buck glances to his friend with an amused glance.

"Well, I've spent nearly fou'h seasons at this point whipping the privates into propah patrollah-shape, meaning Konnah and the rest," Terrence says as he sits back down, "Though I can't say much fo'h leverets or the new privates and recruits from the summah onward- which just so happen to be the ones Dom'll be dealing with. Greenhill done a bit of work with them all, but I need he'h and he'h squad to do some business up in Halyard fo'h me, so no help from them now." Taking another sip of his drink he adds with a shrug, "Of course Elbio'll be there, Brocktree knows what little that'll be."

Felicity accepts the nice warm mint tea from the barkeep.  The Healer sits down nearby, opening the book she pulls from her pocket.  "I think y'll do wonderf'lly, Dom.  Jus' try not t'break anythin', okay?"  She sips her tea.  "Maybe y'should volunteer wi' th'leverets at some point, Terrence.  'Twould be good practice should y'evah 'ave any o'y'own someday."  That's awkward, seeing as how they're kind of in a relationship, but she easily moves on after sipping her tea again.  "'As Whisowski shown any improvement?"  She'll be displeased but not surprised to hear that this Private is as chauvinistic as ever, not really complying with commands unless they are told to him by a male.  He also is still pretty open about how females, in his opinion, should just stay home and cook and tend to the Dibbuns.  All this will not surprise Felicity in the least.

Dominik chuckles at the mention of Konnor, the buck certainly recalling his previous interactions with him, and how the smaller buck seems to be quite terrified of him. For good reason, of course...after all, he was holed up in a cave with him for awhile when Dom was in the swamps...but alas. "Hmm. If Terrence has any issues vith this Konnor, send him down to catacombs, to see Dom. Dom vil introduce him to...old friend." The large buck grins, knowing how much Konnor enjoyed the company of Blorg. "But yes, thank you, Felicity. Dom vil try not to break anything...or anyone." He chuckles. As this Whisowski fellow is mentioned, Dom's ears perk with interest. He also nods as Felicity mentions Terrence spending time with the leverets. He seems to think it is a good idea as well. "Yes, is definitely good idea for Terrence to spend time vith leverets. Is...a learning experience, but...vil also help with patience. And vil help vith one's art skills, and also how to clean paint out of everything."

"No, no! No need, Dom!" Terrence says rather hastily as Konner is brought up. "He was actually the third candidate fo'h corporalship and is quite a good private now, plus it wouldn't do to go traumatizing you'h rivals!" As for the leverets he takes along draft of his rum. "Maybe. But it'll have to wait until things are back to normal in terms of the patrol, o'h if I trusted Zolomon to help with the tra-, well..." He thinks better of what he was going to say. "Which evah comes first, eh? I'm not Eagan to deal with paint. As fo'h Whisowski, Whisowski..." It takes the sergeant a moment to remember the name and unpleasant hare. "Ah yes. Him. I actually haven't heard much as a peep from him, though I haven't seen much eithah now that I recall - I put him with my main patrol fo'h them to sort him out." There's a beat. "I should probably check in on them as I can't remembah the last time he was on parade, o'h in the squad..."

Felicity scowls into her tea.  "If th' 'are in charge o' y'Patrol is a doe, he prob'ly is refusin' t'go 'cause o' tha'."  She then shakes her head and goes to pat Terrence on the arm.  "I guess I'll 'ave t'maybe 'elp Zolomon at some point s'y'c'n take a break from drills an' such and 'elp wi' Julia.  Don't y'think 'e'd do well, Dom?  I think 'e would."  She's mostly just wanting to test him...and possibly make him cry.  That could be it too.  Which would be a sign she's getting better.

Dominik chuckles at Terrence. "Well, is good thing that he is learning lesson, then. Dom has done nothink but help him, and is never given thanks." He grins for a moment. "But is glad to hear he is doing well." He gives a nod of his head as Felicity mentions Terrence doing well with Julia. "Oh yes, is thinking Terrence would do very well vith leetle Julia!" he agrees. He reaches over to give Terrence a light poke with a paw. "She likes Terrence, always tells Dom this ven he is vatching her. I mean, she doesn't like as much as Dom, but..." he grins, teasing, with a light shrug. "Leetle Julia is very vell behaved ven she likes you, so, should help a bit if you do vatch her."

"It is Greenhill's unit... and the othah veterans." The sergeant grimaces. "Though she's been around the woods and back, so I'd say it's fifty-fifty on whethah Worshk-Whats-his-name 'deserted' o'h his squamates dumped him in the sea..." Terrence finishes his drink. "But no mattah. Zolomon, well." He chuckles, shaking his head. "The good sergeant I think would fare well, knowing his most /prestigious/ track record with the leverets." When Dom pokes him and speaks he goes a bit red. "Ah. She does? Always thought she hated me fo'h taking that daggah from he'h seasons ago."

Felicity's head sinks towards her chest a little.  She jerks upright and finishes her tea.  The Healer stands, closing her book and putting it back in her pocket.  "Let's get back t'th'Infirmary an' get y'some rest."  Felicity nods and stands, smiling wearily at her friends.  "I'll see y'latah.  'Ave a good ev'ning."  And the does slowly leave the room, the Sergeant tiredly leaning on the Healer.

Yeah, thanks oz! I've actually been doing kinda the same digging and found the log lists - though I missed the LP main page - I ported one log over to the wiki and I'm gonna try and do the rest of the old logs from that site at some point
EDIT
Mildly off topic from the LP, but I forgot to mention I also found this page by Dumble which made me laugh: https://web.archive.org/web/20040810223 … guide.html
plus i found references to benar as a dibbun except all those logs were dead links so im sad

It would be rather difficult around the stairs...
Now, as for when or how it could happen, I have been thinking of starting up semi-regular training trips for the LP to take with the end goal being a smallish scale TP where once the LP is strong enough again, they try to retake Halyard via building a fort there as a base of sorts to clean up the town as its currently (at least from what I gather from RP) well, obi-wan says it best. The locals and the less than savory sorts I can't imagine would be all that happy to have the LP back again, so it probably would cause conflict, plus having a base for the LP to garrison would give us the option of eiether sending hares there for a couple weeks either as town patrollers (as a sort of punishment after the town is fixed up because it'll be boring as heck afterwards) or on leave - instead of hares having to make the nearly half-day trip there (and nearly half-day trip back), they can stay in the town itself safely for the night.

Donica could have any number of things happen during the training trips, any fighting that happens in Halyard later, or even if the fort is ever built an accident while helping out with construction.

Thanks all for contributing - I've been digging through the old logs on the wiki but I've been kinda lost as I really don't know much of the context or even a coherent timeline of events as I kept missing quite a few older logs as I wasn't around for the RPs, so thank you Willow and Oz for providing that (and blisa too)! I should clarify that the main time period I'm interested in is everything pre-2012 (and to a lesser extent everything pre-2018 when I finally got more active in the LP - I've known pretty much everything that's happened since the Ormaz tp))
Also, Willow, there's more than 15 years worth of LP logs that I can find on the wiki so don't sweat the quickly made list because it's more than I could have hoped for

Currently, I'm trying to organize the lists and add those few who are missing + all IC character fates, particularly if there is evidence of characters who died in RP or mentioned as dead in RP; ie, character fates that were confirmed by their players. If anyone has info on that please feel free to share!
Now, unfortunately if characters simply just disappeared because their players left/went inactive there's nothing we can really do or say about that beyond just listing the characters' names, so its a bit of a dilemma. Now, an idea did occur to me that could work, though I'm hesitant about it - it's a slightly grey-area solution in terms of I think power-playing rules (but I'm not quite sure), and that would be to list characters who disappeared without any explanation as "Fate Unknown" or "Missing in  Action" or just "Missing" and nothing else, though a simpler solution is just not to say anything. So Idk hmm

This also is a good time to make a request of anyone who still lurks on the forums who has ever played a currently inactive LP hare character: would it be possible to give like a sentence about what happened to them or even just whether they're alive or not, please?
It doesn't really matter much but for the sake of IC records it would be nice (though that goes for all of this tbh XD)

Oh it is Blisa! I actually remember that TP - it was the first TP I was around for, as I joined the MUCK in 2012, though I wasn't involved much with it (as I was off being atrocious in RP up around Collinsel with poor cotton 300, bless them for suffering through that).
I did not know that the 67th was involved with it so I'll go do my research XD

#275 Re: The Long Patrol » Misc. IC LP stuff » 2020-11-18 02:38:10 PM

thanks for the replies and info!
Willow: thank you for the lists and don't worry about things being too long (the more info i get the happier i am XD). I didn't realize Greg and Quinten were recruits at the same!
I should also say that my characters (Terrence and now Lossow) have no connection to any LP characters who have come before (like Terrance with an A), despite sharing similar names. On a slightly different note, my character Terrence was technically a part of the LP as a fighter during 2015-2016, though he was idle purged during my rather impromptu 2 year break from the muck between 2016-2018

....... also laughing at those titles + commentary
- - -
So the Badger Lords have been:
Bludstripe,
Sebastian (temp?)
and now Ciocan
That's actually useful for dating stuff, because now we can say for stuff IC'ly  "In the seasons while Bludstripe was Badger Lord" or "In the seasons between Sebastian's rule and Lord Ciocan's arrival," a very Tolkien's LotR appendices feel to that and im here for it and I'm thinking I might try to write up an IC recent history of the Long Patrol and Mossflower with the more info we get (written by some recently deceased and made up purely to write it ancient hare tongue)

Oz: Oh, okay! I actually remember Hanzi - I wasn't around much when he was banished, but I did RP with him plying as John in early 2019 (in this log: http://forum.rwmuck.org/viewtopic.php?id=1506)
I also remember two hares from the 2015-2016 time frame named Kate (played by Dylan) and Feanor (played by Wanderer i think) so they along with Jake and Lot are missing from the lists

EDIT so as to not double post: doing some digging on the wiki and archive, found that the 67th is very well established- or at least it was. Right now the only active character who was a part of it was Dom and I'm not quite sure how long ago that was, but I did find a discussion about it on the archive in the post Ciocan was first mentioned, I believe: https://www.rwmuck.org/archive/content/ … vival.html
I'm not sure if the 67th has been used since that post so maybe it was torn to shreds in one of the Marek TPs, idk

As for Bludstripe, I cannot find anything when he was alive - the earliest log that mentions him is from 2005 (thank you Quinten for posting all those years ago! EDIT: this particular log was actually originally posted by Zoe_Lang, but the sentiment still stands as Elmef posted like 50% of the old LP logs): https://www.rwmuck.org/wiki/09-02-05 with only one line

Taye laughs at the thought of being excited at seeing hares, of all creatures. Then, he shakes his head, sobering up just slightly. "No, miss. Our good Lord Bludstripe passed on when I was youngah. None has yet appeared to take 'is place."

So by 2005 Bludstripe was long dead. How or when? I have no idea and can't find anything, though I suspect he died of old age with the mentioning of 'passing on'.

For Sebastion, the first time he appears IC'ly is in this log: https://www.rwmuck.org/wiki/Meeting_in_the_Office. and his last major mention was in this log when Ciocan arrived: https://www.rwmuck.org/wiki/The_Arrival … on_Reboot)
It seems Sebastion disappeared into the night...
And obviously Ciocan's still around (five years and counting!)

So I'm going to try using the earthquake from 2002/2003 as a base to count the seasons until Sebastions arrival as that is the oldest IC event that I know of which I believe the LP would remember

"From the time of the Great Earthquake, which took place sometime during Bludstripe's rule and ravaged all the land in and around Mossflower, to Lord Sebastian's arrival a period of roughly forty-four seasons passed.
Sebastian was the badger lord of Salamandastron for a period of nine seasons until the Lord Ciocan's arrival whereupon he stepped down from his position and left soon after.
Since the Badger Lord Ciocan's arrival at Salamandastron, it has been twenty-one seasons."
- an extract from the Annals of the Badger Lords of Salamandastron and the recent accounts of the Long Patrol
