Elbio walked along the muddy bank and frowns " Gonna take forever to get this mud off.I am glad I have my old cloak, keep the mud off the uniform."

Donica shrugs."Not too bad sur.We could go further into the woods, the river is a higher than before."

Elbio nods." Spring floods..and thar clearly been a lot of snow and that snow been melting."

" Should of seen ot a couple days ago"

" Yeah no fun camo is a muddy mess in places...ouch why you slap me."

Elbio placed a paw on his saber." Show yourself!"

"No need ta shout." Zeek appeared. " Not deaf...well not me anyways."

" Hey..did he just call us dead Bill?"

" I think he did Jill"

Two shrews joined Zeek.the female snorted.

Donica smiled." The GUOSIM." She chuckles a little. " I didn't know we were that close to their camp."

Elbio relaxes " Sorry...Lt. Elbio Hans Reed...nice to see friendly faces."

Zeek smiles." Testing out a couple new log boats and some older ones as well fer Log-A-log  ta make sure the log boatsbe river worthy,come on one of ya in my boat and the other in Jill and Bill's boat."

Jill and Bill helped the hares into boats and the group headed to the camp.

Donica smiles." Nice to rest the footpaws ,how close is camp?"

Elbio nods and helps paddle." Yes a rest is very nice."

Zeek replies." Hour up river." And it takes a little over an hour to get to where the boats are kept. He climbs out and grins cupping his paws to his mouth."Log-A-log-a-log-log!"

This is when the other shrews come from the camp, one shrew pushes forward to see what is going on and the others let him forward, it's Xavier." Long Patrol hares…."

Blade groans. " They best not be hungry. "

Leigh   chuckles at them." They are hares,now be nice Blade."

Donica blinks at the shrew call and upon seeing the shrews gives a tired wave hello.

Elbio smiles." Hello…" He glaces around." Where is Log-A-log?"

Zeek frowns at this question but let's someone else answer.

Jill tilts her head."Odd question ."

Bill nods. " fer sure Log-A-log is...duhhhh here."

Xavier gives the two a glare and steps forward with a bow. " You're looking at him Lt. I am Log-A-log now, father was….was slain but he was avenged.." He changed the subject ." Now lets get you two inside for some food,  there is guest rooms, and tis slot warmer inside as well." He will lead everyone to inside the main building Mess Hall.

Donica frowns but smiles at the offer of a meal and a warm bed.

Elbio nods." Your father was a good beast, I remember him." He follows them inside.

Zeek goes to finish making dinner while the others chat.

Bill and Jill sit down, after fighting over a so called favorite chair.

Blade sits and waves to the others." Always nice to have visitors….friendly ones that is."

Leigh sits close by. She is expecting a baby soon so is taking it easy.

Xavier smiles." We have shrew beer, also fruit juice and tea."

Zeek enters " Dinner….a nice homestyle stew,bread rolls,mushroom turnovers with gravy. We have apple tarts with honey, white chestnut cheese rolls, and some radish salad. "

Elbio smiles and gets some food, but not a lot like most hares do.

Donica does get salad,  rolls. Tarts and a drink.Also some stew...hey she is a hungry hare.

Jill and bill share a tray of turnovers and some stew.

Leigh drinks tea and smiles, " The Spring feast will be here in less than 2 weeks now.:

Blade grumbles. " Better be good weather. We can't have a lot in here ya know.:

Xavier smiles." I know that Blade
We will have it outdoors,thar is enough room, make a bonfire with tables around . It will be great. I can have one of you hares drop off a supply list to the abbey, some other things I shall get in Ferravale."

Elbio smiles" I can help get anyone here safely when needed."

Donica speaks." I say sur we should rest till blooming morning "

Blade eats his food, sips a beer." Novice come help like 3 days before feast….then others day of feast.All head back like next day."

Leigh nods." Should be fun and interesting with the feast here this spring."

Zeek sits finally  enjoy dinner." Oh yes...I have my ingredient lists for from the abbey and Ferravale.  Also we will get some crayfish,there is some around now anyways..don't need too many."

Elbio nods then clears his throat." I will help.  Also have you and your shrews seen any other hares?"

Xavier hmmms." Just that  Velm fellow..why is one missing?"

Donica looks over at Velm's name, then goes back to eating.

Leigh half listens as she is tried.

Blade asks." Some beast is missing."

Zeek frowns."  Why do you need a hare found?"

Elbio sighs. " Sergeant Zolomon...one ear..blackish fur.He has gone AWOL…" No details for now." He will need escorted back to Salamandastron, likely by Private Donica and Lt. Velm. That's if Zolomon is even seen around here,  could of gone anywhere. " He yawns now.

Donica excuses herself and lets one of the shrews show her to her room.

Zeek listens." Oh….my…" He is unsure what  AWOL even is.

Blade snorts." So out without the permission huh...well should be an interesting story."

Xavier hmmms softly. " Not see him,  just Velm and I know of a dibbun hare at the abbey, Ciana."

Elbio waves to Donica and nods." Ciana is my adopted daughter." He smiles." I have missed her and will be very glad to see her."

Leigh smiles,  she likes the dibbun hare." Trust me she has missed you also Elbio."

Blade nods."Log-A-log  can take ya two hares."

Zeek goes to clean up some dishes as dinner is finishing.

Xavier looks at Blade. " I would like you and a couple others to help me escort Lt. Elbio to the abbey." He grins." It be good ta get him to the abbey in style."

Blade snorts but nods.

Leigh just yawns. " I will stay here, maybe Oswald can go.I cant travel much yet."

Elbio nods." Thank you Log-A-log...and I will see you in the morning. It's then off to bed, a real soft bed that he has missed the couple weeks they traveled.

LOG:

Zoltar Walker ahead of his band of vermin, 15 in all of rats,ferrets, and weasels. They keep on the north side of the river,away from those angry shrews and otter tribe.He snorts and looks behind him.

Oz stumbled over a tree root sticking out of the ground,  but he managed to keep going even though his ankle hurt now.

Zoltar growled under his breath and muttered."Catch up brat."

Oz frowns and speaks quietly. " Sorry sir, my..my ankle hurts."

Zoltar rolls his eyes, ." More than your ankle gonna hurt if you don't…" He glares at a weasel that's tapping him." What...I am busy ere' '"

The weasel points to a small settlement right ahead, a lot of vermin can be seen walking around.  There is stoats,weasels,cats,some rats and even a couple newts wearing fur lined coats.

Oz whimpers and blinks as he looks at the settlement and then Zoltar as if to figure out what he plans to do next.

Zoltar chuckles" Well, my kind of place. " He leads the group to the entry,  a sign reads *Shadow Pine *.

Right away the group is noticed by a very tall wolverine.  His fur was grayish black and he had tattoos on his arms and face as he walked over to the wildcat. " Why are you in my village feline?" A couple foxes walk over, likely bodyguards and stand on both sides of the wolverine.

Oz frowns as he stays close to Zoltar, he is not liking this place at all.

Zoltar smirks" I am Zoltar, whom are you sir? And as fer why I am here, passing through and I do what I want,when I want."

The wolverine laughs coldly." I am Deathfur...and this is my village. This is my horde, The Crimson Shadows...come spring we travel on east and south to get a proper base." He looks at Oz and grins,he looks at Zoltar." A badger cub? What ya want for im'...Maybe I will let your little group be on your way if you give me the cub, trust me gold is no problem."

Oz backs away and looks ready to cry.He seems ready to bolt but stays where he is.He sits on the ground looking worried and unsure what to think.

Zoltar yawns as if  this is boring and looks at his claws before speaking." The badger cub is mine, not for sale Deathfur. "

Deathfur clearly dislikes the reply given to him and a deep snarl forms.He then speaks." Not a wise answer kitty. Maybe rethink your reply .Or do we have to fight, I rather not fight."

Shadowlight makes her way over curious as to what is happening.

Oz just frowns,  he has seen fights and worse.

Zoltar just chuckles." Tell ya wot….we fight, I win I keep the cub and get your horde and village. You win the cub is yours and...I leave on my merry little way."

Deathfur gets a grin on his face." Your a foolish beast but fine I agree to your terms, but when I win..You go nowhere as your be dead and your merry little group." His grin widens." Belong to me."

Shadowlight sits close,  also a crowd forms behind her as beasts start to watch knowing a fight is about to start.

Another vermin,a ferret, appears to watch. Her name is Melina.A golden color like honey to her fur.

Oz gulps as he hears this and starts to scoot away, but he is grabed by a weasel in the wildcat's group and sighs, he may as well stay put he decides.

Zoltar gets out twin blades. " A fool? Well let's see who the fool is, let's see indeed."

Deathfur just nods and draws his long blade. " impressive...begin!" He right away attacks,that's his way and he has yet to lose a fight.

Oz watches as they fight. He wants Zoltar to win as he believes he be in worse shape with the wolverine.

Melina just stays close and watches,or is it worth it to watch even.

Shadowlight just tilts her head saying nothing and just looks between the two.

The vermin that is with Zoltar sit to watch the outcome as their fates are lie in the outcome.

Zoltar sidesteps and slices,he blocks the long blade and goes to elbio him in the jaw.

Deathfur is a little surprised but only gets a slice to the shoulder and grins.He raises his blade to go for the wildcat's  throat.

Oz frowns, he watches and waits.

Zoltar gets the top of his tail sliced and narrows his eyes.He backs off,then lunges forward one blade to block any move and the other to stab deep into the wolverine's gut.

Deathfur grin  fades as pain fills his eyes and he spits blood.

Melina eyes widen at this, the wolverine might lose?

Shadowlight shrugs. " That's a first."

Oz blinks and stays quiet,ok is this good or bad, he is unsure.

Zoltar now grins. " Spitting blood is rude…" He pulls out the blade and goes to behead the wolverine!

Deathfur sways and falls, his head rolls a few feet away.

Shadowlight looks slightly shocked." OK...so new leader."

Melina waits quietly, as does some others.

Zoltar smiles coldly and puts his blades away. He nods to the two foxes." Fetch everyone,  we can meet by the main square,  oh and start a bonfire.

A nod and the two foxes are off.

It's an hour later as the wildcat  Zoltar sits in a silver chair and has some wine, a sip and he clears his throat. " How large is my new horde, Crimson Shadows was it?" HE smiles. " Excellent name." Another sip of wine.

Shadowlight replies. " 575...my new Lord." She nods. " 600 if count your own."

Oz is falling asleep beside the wildcat,  it's been a long day.

Zoltar nods, finishes his wine. " You had plans, yes?...well plans change and I am leader now. OBEY me...also no one touches the badger cub, he is mine alone...touch him and die a horrible painful death. "

Shadowlight nods as she listens. " Deathfur had plans for the abbey of Red."

Zoltar rolls his eyes." Redwall...seen it, not worth it and they likely keeping an eye out for me." He gets more wine and some fish." No...I have bigger goals, think of it now...a seaside fortress,  a seaside town, a sea port, is a  and a half hour walk from it.Sandy beaches."

Shadowlight raises an eyebrow but listens.

Others listen to and chat, soon they quiet again.

Zoltar grins. " Halyard….will be ours. THen...the mountain fortress guarded by the Long Patrol will follow. I will slay thier badger in front of them, watch the light fade from their eyes. "

A rat just starts bursting out laughing at this.

Shadowlight frowns at the rat but says nothing.

Zoltar stands and walks calmly over to rat and lays a paw on his shoulder. " You find me….funny? What is your name?"

The rat manages to stop." Feathertail...and de Great Badger Mountain? Salamandastron...ya..that funny."

Zoltar listens. " You know of it….Feathertail?" He seems intrested.

Feathertail nods." Yeah use ta stay in Halyard...badger's name be..ummm
….Ciocool...no. na..Simcion...no..Oh…" He nodded." Ciocan...yeah that's it..Lord Ciocan."

Zoltar nods and just smiles.He then breaks the rat's neck and let's his dead body drop. He looks up" Anyone else think I am funny?"

Several beasts shake their heads no, no one steps forward.

Shadowlight speaks." What now Great Zoltar?"

Zoltar smirks and sits down again." We rest a little while, maybe some training and maybe some recruiting and then we get ourselves a seaside port and a nice mountain fortress,  anyone still alive will be slaves. I will be powerfully and feared, and maybe in a couple seasons we can  go inland and visit Redwall. For now let's Feast to a new beginning. `` he raises his wine glass and others follow.He smiles coldly he has a large horde, heis sure he can gather a few more beasts and then…..then, no one would dare challenge him!
