They Would Be Proud.

***Happen after the spring feast ***

It was late now and the bonfire was more of a campfire now. Log-A-log sat in a tall tree outside of the camp.He soon skillfully climbed down and soon stood by two graves near the tree.

Darian wandered through the camp after helping to clean up after the feast.The young weasel then seen Xavier and started to approach him slowly , looking a little unsure." Ummm….Mr. Log-A-log...sir?"

Xavier spins around and then relaxes remembering seeing her during the feast." Hello….wot ya need?"

Darian steps closer, still unsure,  and looks to the graves asking." Who were they?"

Xavier looks down at the graves and speaks. " Mother...never knew her ,she died shortly after I was born." And..father." His father's grave is not that old at all." Father was Log-A-log before me."

Darian looks from Xavier to the graves." They must be very proud of you " She says, her voice gently speaking. " If they could see the state of this camp, the feast you put on today….they would be amazed."

Xavier shrugs "It was an idea I had and de Abbot liked it, so Spring feast here at my camp. I..I am still learning to be leader, just about a month now." He frowns." Small group of foxes tried to take over the camp."

Darian is surprised." Is everyone ok now?"

Xavier nods," Yeah, they are no longer a threat and the camp is safe.We...lost father though. "

Darian suddenly places her paws to her mouth." I am so sorry." She had not known his father had died recently.

Xavier takes a deep breath," It's ok, at..first I blamed myself , maybe he wouldn't of died and maybe he still be alive...me and him had an argument and I  stormed off. He..looked for me with a couple others." A frown. " They ran into the foxes, father was hit in the back with an arrow and it was Zeek and Leigh who escaped when the foxes captured others...father died of his wound and...told them to..find me,and they did.I got them somewhere safe and later,with help I got the camp safe again and all the foxes died."

Darian stares at Xavier , not sure what to say . The young weasel's eyes fill with tears.She carefully  reaches a paw out to Xavier and takes his paw in her's .

Xavier just stands there,  then" I...suppose I did alright, camp is safe now."

Darian nods her head."You protected every creature. And you helped things thrive , like with today's feast. I'm really sure, that your father is watching from the dark forest and is very proud."

Xavier smiles some." Yeah and it is Spring now, winter is gone and that's good."He smiles." And my fellow shrews support me as leader."

Darian nods." Because your a good leader. " She steps sideways " I am Darian " She then extends her paw.

Xavier looks at the paw, then shakes it.' Nice to meet you."

" And you're Xavier right." Darian asks.

Xavier nodd." Suppose but most just say Log-A-log now."

Darian is thoughtful a morment. Paws behind her back" What do you want me to call you?"

Xavier smiles. " Log-A-log is fine to call me."

Darian smiles as she bows. " Alright and may I ask you a question?"

Xavier hmmms." Ask me what?"

Darian looks around to make sure not being watched  then looks at him. " How much do you know about Redwall?"

Xavier blinks. " Why do you ask? I...well was only thar a couple times in my life."

Darian looks in the distance somewhere." My grandpa lived there,  I came back as a way to honor him.I just hope he is proud of me."

Xavier smiles" If he was good hearted and you stay good hearted you would be honoring him."

Darien smiles again."I was hesitant to come back , or here but I am glad I did. I see I I didn't have to wooy….Mr. Log-A-log  do you think we ca be friends?:

Xavier hmms." Friends?....I….yes we can"

Darian smiles more." Thank you Mr. Log-A-log  that means not to me.It makes me really happy and I want to say thank you for letting me come to the feast and for holding it too."

Xavier replies" Your welcome, the summer one will be at the abbey."

Darian takes a few steps back and sits in the grass, " Will you go?"

Xavier shrugs." Father didn't go to many of them."

Darian replies " You should go."

Xavier shrugs" Maybe,  depends on if busy or not or...mood is at time."He sits down." May be busy as leader and I am gonna try to learn more history too."

Darian curls up some." I could tell ya some stuff"

Xavier nods." You could, I did hear of a siege where 300 hares and Lord ciocan came to help the abbey.Father spoke of it."

Darian asks" Before.. or after Hector?"

Xavier hmm." It was few seasons ago...Elbio might know"

Darian looks like she has more questions  but doesn't ask.

Elbio comes over to nod a hello, hearing some of the talk.

Darian asks " Lt.Elbio did you fight to help Redwll during that time?"

Elbio replies." I was elsewhere at the time. Zolomon is one hare know was there, he was a private at the time."

Darian nods and dusts off" I should head back to the abbey now.Thank you and goodnight."

Xavier blocks her path" Stay, head back with the others in the morning, please."

Darian nods." Alright...thank you."

Xavier leads her to his hut to rest the night,come morning the shrews, Lt.Elbio and Matilda leads all beasts that came home.Any help offered from Ferravale is also taken and all get back safe and sound.
