Oz-Papa Oz and Dibbun Caretaker of Redwall
Krisha-Badger Maid
Lilymoore- Bell Ringer of Redwall Abbey
==Kitchen Yard of Redwall Abbey==
Krisha has practiced with the clay making and so far its not much as she sighs decideing to try later as she looks around the kitchen yard and steps over to the forge as she studies it.
Oz makes his way into the kitchen yard, he had been told Krisha was over this way,"Krisha?" Yes he knows she is here just not a for certain where.
Krisha turns and speaks "I...I am here" Her voice is slowly getting less rough sounding as she starts to try and speak more.
Oz walks over towards her, "Greetings..an interest in the forge it seems. Though what is made here is mainly tools, hinges, some varies abbey tools and maybe a new pot or pan when needed. Another thing never did find interest in. Have you worked some in a forge?"
LilyMoore comes skipping through the yard holding a basket. "Oh, hi, Papa Oz, Krisha. I'm going to see if there are any ripe peppers. How are you 2?" She pauses and smiles at them. She's wearing sandals for a change; her mother must have forced her to.
Krisha answers "Mainly...father. I watched....and helped little" She nods a hello and smiles a small smile "H...hi"
Oz smiles as Lilymoore walks over “Greetings Lilymoore. I am doing well today and its sunny today no rain."
LilyMoore nods and says over her shoulder as she walks into the garden, "Yeah, the sunshine is nice, although I do enjoy the rain; puddles are fun to splash in," she adds with a laugh. After picking some nice, ripe peppers, the mouse maid comes back into the yard and adds, "Whatcha doin'? Do you need any help? After I take these peppers into the kitchen, I can help you."
Krisha grew up around forges as she still studies it "First seen.......small forge" She shrugs at the mouse maid as she is still getting used to being at the abbey.
Oz says, "All is well right now I was just looking for Krisha and a novice mentioned she was here." He tilts his head at the younger badger. " I remember one other I seen, this being a while back..long time, in Send Valley I am sure it’s still there. My uncle mainly run it, though my brother worked in it for a short time and may of stayed had he not come looking for me"
LilyMoore hands the basket to a Novice who had come out to get some herbs. "Here; could you please take this back into the kitchen for me?" The Novice nods, looking kind of happy to have a thing to put herbs in, and he wanders off to get herbs. The mouse maid smiles. "I was told I could quit for the day after I picked some peppers. Why did your brother have to look for you? Oh, was this Zork?" She twists her bracelet gently around her wrist, remembering her good friend.
Krisha looks curious herself but decides to let him answer.
Oz says, "He was my only brother...as for the uncle no one here ever meet..Uncle Soot, Uncle Zee knew how to fox a forge needing repair but never made anything"
LilyMoore makes an O with her mouth. She always thought that Oz and Zee had had another sibling. She listens closely. "What was Soot like? I bet he was nice." She says honestly. "Did he send Zork to look for you?"
Krisha frowns some as family is mentioned and starts to walk away, and she does to sit over by the kilt where pottery is made.
Oz answers "Zee may have or he did it on his own. I am unsure as never asked......." He stops as he hears foot paws leaving "Krisha are you ok?"
LilyMoore turns and sees the look on the badger maid’s face. "Oh, I'm sorry Krisha....what's wrong?" She looks concerned. She's afraid that she hurt the other maiden's feelings.
Krisha picks a lose flower from the ground and stares at it, she doesn't mean to be sad and it’s not their fault either. She drops the flower and goes to hurry away "G...Got go.." Yes before she gets too upset in front of them, she heads off to the vineyard and most likely the wall tops.
Oz frowns as he listens, he can tell from tone of voice as he listens to her foot paws rush off "It may be best to let her alone for now, I can check on her later or have Xander do it"
LilyMoore was about to dash off after the badger maid when Oz's words stop her. "But....okay, Papa Oz. I just hope it's not our fault," she adds sadly. "I think she was about to cry." She sits cross legged on the ground and sighs.
Oz shakes his head "I do not think so, I do not know everything of her..just what I heard" He is not saying from whom, " I knew a little from when me and Xander spoke as well." He decides as maybe others can help the badger maid as well" Krisha loss her family, she was alone and never even seen another badger till I believe recently. She was but a newborn when she lost her family and my guess is her adopted father came into her life..maybe when she was born."
LilyMoore looks up at the badger as she listens, squinting against the sunlight. "Oh....that's terrible. I had no idea." She looks back at the path down which Krisha walked. "Wow....that sounds so lonely...not knowing any beast that looks like you."
Oz nods "I was alone..almost, for 9 seasons but it was by choice not forced upon me and I still had.....well some family, even if I seemed to think I didn’t"
LilyMoore listens. "Why did you choose to be all by yourself?" She can't imagine ever wanting to not be around her family, unless you did something that you're ashamed of and you're sure that everyone hates you, like she was feeling right after Lorimis died.
Oz frowns, but he can speak off it now " I ....wanted to be alone. I had just lost my son and wife, he was barely half a season old....and I failed to save them, I later knew it was impossible to save them and I was lucky to not of joined them that day but I wanted to...at first." He smiles at a memory “A...dibbun saved me , no not that day a season later..I would of died if they had not come into my life that day"
LilyMoore smiles softly. "I'm sorry that your family died. What were their names? And who was the Dibbun who saved you?" She's still sitting on the ground, but now she adds, "Would you like a chair? I can get you one from the kiln."
Oz smiles "A chair would be nice, some knew him a mouse named Maxtor...he also had a part in me...well the large part of me coming here in the first place"
LilyMoore scrambles up and gets a stool from the kiln area as she listens. As she sets it down, she comments, "Maxtor? I think I've heard of him. How did he get you to come here?"
Oz sits down and nods "Well first...we almost didn’t meet. I had recovered from the avalanche that ....took away Northstar and Cole, I had my staff to walk and left, with a...well borrowed dagger from Zork, he didn’t knew I took it till couple hours later. Anyways I left and went to a stream close to a small settlement, not that I cared I..Wasn’t heading to it, I planned to..." He frowned, and sighs "End my life but I didn’t...I smelled smoke and heard crying...a dibbuns crying"
LilyMoore furrows her brow and sits back down on the ground as she listens. "Oh, wow.....and so you went to find the baby?"
Oz nods "I...couldn’t ignore it. I pocketed the dagger and followed the sound, the smell and...the settlement, maybe a dozen beasts was burnt down. It Wasn’t something I wanted to see, a clear sign there was a fire but one beast was alive and scared...one building it was and...still a lot of smoke and some fire. I some reason went in, and soon found a dibbun mouse of maybe a season or so old. I got him out and walked him back to the infirm. His paw was burnt and he had some cuts..bruises but Silverfangs, a healer, helped him and I got a ton of questions I didn’t answer right away." He goes on "I..Decided to adopt him and learned his name was Maxtor...my next decision almost caused me and Zork to drift apart for good."
LilyMoore listens in awe as the badger describes his heroism (she at least thinks it sounds heroic), but then she blinks her peculiar blue/hazel/violet eyes. "What on Earth could make Zork and you not be close anymore?"
Oz frowns "Me leaving Send without even a goodbye, taking Maxtor and just walking away...south, to the northern woods well I became a hermit for 8 seasons..."
LilyMoore's eyes widen. "Why did you leave without even saying goodbye?" That seems so unlike the Oz she knows now.
Oz says, "I felt if I stayed I would lose Zork too and see him die...I guess also Send was too painful, memories too much so left. Not much happen that needs telling all was well till Maxtor and then annoying otter" Yes Oz thought so...most annoying otter in history.."Told him of a place called Redwall further south, no he wasn't going...well he placed sleeping herbs in my tea, let’s just say I caught up to him and gave him a lecture that was the longest in history and made plans to leave the next day" He smiled "I didn’t..I stayed and became the dibbun caretaker..Zork came and found me and I was glad." He then smiles "Maybe the rest later it’s about time to ring the bell for dinner, and we best not be late"
LilyMoore had been listening, fascinated, then slumps in disappointment. "Aw, really? Already?" She glances at the sky. "Phooey. Well, okay, Pap Oz. But you have to tell me more later!" She hops up and goes to give him a hug, then turns and dashes off to the Bell Tower to ring the bells for dinner, her sandals slapping the ground as she goes...
Oz nods “Of course just remind me” And they go to dinner.
