A Late Night Surprise-Redwall Log

WHO:

Krisha-Badger Mother

Caleb-Adopted son of Krisha and Xander

LOG:

Krisha is sitting in her chair in the Great Hall, it's a lot more comfortable than that wheelchairs and beasts can still wheel her to her room when she is ready. She leans back in the chair and sips her tea, and looks at a half eaten bowl of food.

Caleb would wander into the area, his body aching from traveling for a while. He had wanted to get out of the abbey. He comes up and sits by Krisha, smiling at her with glee as he sits by his mother. He had a cup of tea and a bit of food from the kitchen, giving her a small wave.

Krisha didn't notice Caleb at first, a lot sit by her lately and are quiet, to keep her company. She turns around to nod, be polite to whomever it is. Upon seeing it's Caleb, she starts to cry a little "Caleb!" She says "Caleb..your..where have you been?"

Caleb puts his things down and goes up to the badger, giving her a big hug before writing on his notepad, showing it to her"     I've been adventuring. I wanted to get away from the abbey for a while and try to see a few other things. But I'm back now, for good now"

Krisha reads it and she frowns, "All the snow.."He must have missed the storm she decides or was somewhere safe, She puts the pad down after reading it"I am glad your home son"She sounds oddly sad."I am glad the winter storm didn't affect you, I am glad your alive and glad you're not hurt"

Caleb takes up his things and places them around before climbing onto Krisha's lap. hugging her. He simply signs that he is sorry he left without any warning and that he was safe out there.

Krisha just holds onto him"Just stay..please, I can't lose anyone else"

Caleb just stays against her, he is definitely isn't going anywhere for a long while. He signs "Don't worry mom. you won't lose me"

Krisha nods "How long have you been back, have you..spoken  to anyone yet?" Well, she should say signed..wrote but she is tired, her voice sad.

Caleb gets his notepad and writes "I just got back, what has happened?"

Krisha frowns as more tears flow down her face" Oz is missing..and"It already took her a while to speak, she can't get more out just yet it seems.

Caleb freezes up. His little brother was missing? What else had he missed. He felt like he wasn't going to like the next bit but encourages his mother to continue.

Krisha sniffs"Your father..."She sobs and shakes her head "He's..dead, he's dead Caleb"

Caleb seems to sit there for a moment and shake somewhat as he tries to think over everything she just said. His bother is missing and his father had passed while he was away...when he couldn't even help. The mouse whimpers and eventually writes out through tears and shows her "How did he..."

Krisha looks at the note" He was..killed..murdered...this cat came and claimed she needed help for her and some...friend.Xander volunteered to go help her. I got worried when a few hours had passed and he had not returned so went out with Dorarose, and a hare named Velm...we found...we found"A sob "Found him dead, and two ferrets dead not too far from him.No one else around..He very likely fought and killed the ferrets to protect Oz..then someone killed Xander...either the cat, possibly her friend. Oz was not killed, he was not there...missing, a knockout dart found so whoever killed your father likely has Oz..somewhere"

Caleb is practically in tears now, feeling everything flow out all at once. He didn't even get to say goodbye to his father. He takes a moment to clear out the tears, writing some more "I suppose others already left to find Oz..does that mean I have to protect the abbey now? Like father did?"

Krisha nods "If protecting the abbey is what you want to do son"

Caleb nods, he whimpers"I want to take up what he left behind..be a guardian, I will stay and protect the abbe, stay with you mom. I am sorry I wasn't here when this happen"

Krisha hugs him, "What is important is your safe..the killer will be found and so will Oz"

"I just wish I could find them, look for them..do something myself"He only shakes his head and hugs her again not wanting to leave her lap.

Krisha hugs him still"Someone is looking. I don't know..when but we will get news..I am sure" She sighs "I  wanted to..not go on living, I wanted to let myself fade away..not eat or drink or leave my room. But Dorarose talked to me and...she is right Xander, your  father, would not want me to join him, he would want me to live, and you to live as well"

Caleb nods and writes a bit more, Though his body is aching from not resting yet "I think he would want us both to live..if I had come back and you were dead as well I am not sure what I would have done. I am glad your  here mom"

Krisha manages a smile for the first time in days, a good smile for once not a weak one."Me too"

Caleb is glad to see her smile and just rest sipping the tea, a tea he learned to make from Xander, Xander taught him to make teas.

Krisa speaks "Things will be ok, it will just take some time" She is tired, still weak and clearly, has lost some weight from barely eating the past few days, she didn't drink much water either, just a little tea.

Caleb nods and would help feed her some, he doesn't want her to lose any more weight, he wants her healthy. He will help her get better.

Krisha smiles, she is fine with help eating, in fact, she will eat better with help than just no one around her. She will still need help around the abbey till her strength is back.

Caleb will help all he can, he writes "I'm pretty tried..is it ok to sleep in your room tonight so you know I am back and not worry"

Krisha smiles "That is fine son"

The Badger mother has a novice help her to the wheeled chair and she gets back to her room. A cot is set up for Caleb so he can rest in here. Krisha looks over as he has fallen asleep on the cot fairly quickly it seems. She smiles again and closes her eyes to get some very much needed sleep as sleep seems to have escaped her the past few days also, yes she got some rest...but it was a restless sort of sleep, tonight she seems to get some better sleep at least.
