The result of telling myself I'll post it later is that two weeks have passed since this RP. Procrastination is not a word in my vocabulary, I swear. (As a side note, I will not be on today or next week as a sort of pseudo break. One would think being stuck inside would mean free time, but nope)
Sergeants Felicity and Terrence, hares.
The day is pleasant enough for the late winter and the sun was warm when it peaks through the clouds. This, of course, helped half deserted town of Halyard look a bit more welcoming. There hadn't been much trouble since the incident with the slavers a month or so back, and things are quiet now - none of which puts Terrence at ease. While he is wearing simple civilian clothes, he still catches the odd looks of those who aren't all that friendly with the mountain - two hares, especially young hares, are rarely not involved with the LP in some way. Crossing the street to keep the furthest distance between himself and the alley were the dibbun was murdered (and were he got stabbed), the bespectacled buck points to the bakery with a slight smile. "Not exactly the cafe the Lt. mentioned but I can't imagine going wrong in there. What do you say?"
Felicity is excited! Her first date! Now she's only hoping that no vermin cause problems (and her vixen informant, Rioko, doesn't interrupt the occasion). "Ooh, that sounds lovely, actually! They make some really nice cakes, an' may'ap I could get m'sistah somethin' when we leave." The doe is wearing a dress for the 2nd time this week (be amazed!). It's blue with no embroidery or lace. Over it she is wearing a mid-shin length grey coat, which she has unbuttoned to provide easy access to her sword and sling (because she is a Long Patrol hare and always comes prepared).
"Well, alright then." Terrence opens the door for the bakery, holding it opening for Felicity. He seems a bit more relaxed now that the chances of running into trouble is lessened by being indoors. "Can't say I've evah been here before, myself, but what kind of cakes are we talking?"
Felicity allows him to hold the door for her, which in itself is a new experience, being the self-sufficient haremaid that she is. "Oh, sweet cakes, fruit cakes, that sorta thing." The rat behind the counter smiles. "Well, 'llo, there, missie. Brought a friend t'day, I see." The Runner nods. "Aye, 'e says 'e's nevah been in 'ere befoh, so 'e's gonna need some time t'decide whot 'e wants."
Terrence nods to the rat at Felicity's words. "Yes. Nevah been here." Bending slightly to peer down at the cakes on display he asks, "So which one would you say is best? Sweets aren't something we're used to back at the mountain. Course, that could be just because I always miss them- which could very well be the case with all the appetites there!" He chuckles, shaking his head.
Felicity shakes her head. "Oh, there's almost always sweets. Y'just too slow gettin' t'th'dining 'all t'get any." She points to blueberry scones, sugar cookies, coffee cake, and soft gingerbread. "Those are m'favourites." The rat points to some iced cookies. "Will y'be wantin' some of these fer your sister?" The maid nods, smiling. "Aye, I will, but I'll get 'em when we leave. Thanks."
"Ah. That's -that's probably it." Terrence mutters, pondering the items pointed out to him. After a moment he looks up at the rat. "We'll take the berry scones, coffee cake, gingerbread, and what do you say about that lemon-y bread there?" He nods to the lemon bread. "I think want to try it as well." Taking out his pocketbook the hare prepares the amount of money needed. "Don't suppose you have anything to drink, o'h know a good place here abouts?"
Felicity shrugs. "I'll try it." She watches him pay, feeling very weird at the thought of not paying her own way. The rat starts bagging up what he ordered. "I got tea. The tavern 'as strongah drinks, but I prefer tea with my baked goods." "Aye, I'm good wi' tea, too," Lissie adds, already eyeing one of the tables by a window.
"As do I. Besides, think it's a bit too early to start hitting the hard stuff anyway." Terrence laughs, "How much fo'h two cups?"
The rat nods and hands him the baked good in exchange for the change. "Just 'ave a seat an' I'll bring ye the tea when 'tis ready." Felicity smiles and thanks her, then leads the way to a table by the window overlooking the street. Seating herself, she looks up at the buck. "Thank you. I do love th'good they 'ave 'ere. She's one o' th'best bakahs I've evah encountahed, an' since I've been t'Redwall, that's sayin' somethin'."
"Thank you." Terrence nods to the rat before following Felicity to the table. He dips his head at her thanks. "No problem." He says as he sits across from her. "And I've nevah been to Redwall so all I have to compare the cakes to are the ones back home. What's the place like? I haven't really gone out of my way to look into the abbey all that much..."
Felicity smiles wide. "Oh, Redwall's th'most amazin' place in th'world! They're all so nice, an' some o' m'friends are theh. Also," she leans forward as she goes to help him serve the cakes, "I arrived theh in time foh 1 o' their famous season nameday feasts. 'Twas practically 'Eaven, wot! Enough food of such legendary quality t'make y'think y'died an' went t'th'Dark Forest."
Terrence raises an eyebrow, not quite believing. "Really? Almost sounds too good to be true." Giving a light chuckle he adds, "But that's probably just me speaking aftah seasons of army rations. Is it true Redwall is mostly peaceful? How does that even work?"
Felicity nods and starts munching on a scone. "Oh, aye, 'tis true." The rat brings them tea, receiving the maiden's thanks. After she leaves, Lissie continues. "They don't go out lookin' f'r fights like we sorta do, but they will defend themselves if they're attacked. They 'ave th'Abbey Champion, as well as some resident Warriahs. DoraRose, m'friend, is one o' those Warriahs. She's a feirce fightah, good t' 'ave on y'side, terrifying t' 'ave as an enemy. They're also allies wi' a nearby vermin village, populated mostly by kind, good, respectable creatahs. The Chieftain is a cat, an' she is willin' t'come t'Redwall's aid when necessary."
Terrence also thanks the rat when she brings the tea. Slowly stirring some honey into the drink, he listens, quietly. Especially about that part with the cat. "I see." He says, after digesting the information for a bit. "Dare I say they seem to need ou'h help more often than not, but I don't know much about that beyond the hare who, well..." With a sigh Terrence leans back in his chair to take a sip of the tea. "Anyway, to blatantly and brazenly change the topic," He's not quite smiling given how his mind had drifted to those that went to Redwall anddied there, but he manages a light tone. "So what do you do fo'h fun? I mean when privates and leverets aren't acting up and all that, wot."
Felicity sips her tea and eats some gingerbread now that she's finished her scone. Raising her eyebrow, she smiles. She, too, has thought about the hares who died in the battle for Redwall, but she can balance sorrow and joy pretty well, all things considering. "Oh, I like t'draw, an' I sew a lot t'keep m'sistah in normal, non-military-lookin' clothes. I also love readin', 'specially 'istory an' adventah stories." She wrinkles her nose. "Romance stories nevah really seem t' 'old m'interest. Not enough action f'r me. I'd rathah read 'bout pirates."
"I wasn't aware the literature business was a thing, really!" Terrence laughs. "Honestly, outside of the library I nevah found much to read..." He shakes his head and sets the cup down. "Speaking of the library, actually, I seem to remember you talking about drawing before- I think the general was there as well, right?"
Felicity has finished her gingerbread, and is warily eyeing the lemon cake. "Um, I know Greg was thah. Yeah, I remembah....'twas th'day y'asked me out, in fact." Such a memory! She smiles and breaks off a tiny piece of the lemon cake to try. "May'ap when we get back I could show y'some more o' m'drawin's."
Taking the lemon bread and breaking it in half Terrence offers a half to her. "Want some more? And ah. That explains it." His cheeks go slightly red and he laughs it off. "I daresay I was bit preoccupied that day! And I'd love to. I nevah have done much drawing outside of maps fo'h plans and the like, myself, but its good to see somehare doing it."
The look on Felicity's face answers his question before any words come out of her mouth. "Um, no, thanks. Y'c'n 'ave th'rest o' it. I'm thinkin' lemons aren't really my thing." The rat, overhearing, sighs and writes in a little ledger. Looking slightly embarrassed, Lissie returns to the conversation topic at hand (or paw, as the case may be). "Well, 'tis undahstandable. I'll make sure t'dig out some o' m'oldah sketchbooks -- they're not really tha' much oldah as they are just full, y'know?" She finishes the tea and brushes some crumbs off her skirt. "Shall we go t'th'mahket? There'll be some vendahs open, I know."
"Right. I can understand filling pages with stuff - it's not the same as drawing but the amount that hares have left behind in journals in the library is, well, a lot to say the least." Terrence glances down at the piece and sets it with the leftovers. "Well, I think lemons might be my thing." With smiles he nods. "Sure! It'd be good to look through it - the only time I've been there has been rushing aftah vermin and such. Not really good fo'h pursuing goods, now is that?" With another chuckle he packs away the uneaten food, and once finishes with that he stands, bag in paw. "Well, shall we then?"
Felicity nods and stands, too. "Aye, do let's. Oh, aftah I get m'sistah some cookies." After purchasing them and bidding the rat good-bye, the haremaid steps out into the sunshine. "I also journal, but that's not really somethin' I do f'r fun. 'Tis more a way t'get all m'frustrations outta m' 'ead." She goes to walk with him to the market, where she knows a couple of the merchants, too. It turns out to be a pleasant day. Not bad for a first date, I dare say
Terrence smiles once again. He's been doing that a lot more today. "I'd hope so. Though just remember to burn the things in you'h old age, o'h hares seasons from now'll know about all of that!" With another laugh, the bespectacled hare walks alongside Felicity.
