SQUEE!
Your furbabies are so cute! I love rats! What are their names? How old are they? What are their genders? Do they like to play? Rats are very smart; do they figure out things that puzzle them? like, physical things to play with, not philosophical questions

Also, do y'all's rats express affection towards you?

They are both boys, there names are Spike and Angel (i had just got done watching all of buffy and angel before i got them) and there personalities match the characters. Spike (the light gray one) is smaller but more spunky while angel (the black one) is bigger but calmer and figures things out faster. my rats like to play with them self and crawl over me, but they don't like my hands much but are warming up to them, the beg for treats when ever i go near the cage. and yes they figure out puzzles really fast and can learn tricks, im teaching them simple ones right now like you have to climb up on my shoulder if you want a tree, and im working on a simple spin trick as well. and once you get them bonded with you yes, rats will express a lot of affection, but you have to make sure you give them time, how much time depends on the rat, some warm up to you right away, some can take up to multiple months
as for there age, they are about 2 months old, and they aren't even fully grown yet.

That's so cool! Thank you for the enlightenment and the cute pictures It's really cool.
Sounds kind of like with feral cats; I've helped gentle quite a number of feral cats in my life, and it takes a lot of time and patience and gentleness. I guess it's that way with all animals, huh?

well rats are after all pray animal, they have generations of instincts tell them that anything bigger them wants to eat them, so you have to show that you wont harm them, and the best way to do that is to find a area that they have enough room to run around away from you but it is also someplace you know they can't get out or away and just let them be, give them a safe place to hide in and ignore them, let them come to you, also to put your hand in the cage and just let it sit there, they might nibble on it but they wont bite, i have spent about 3 hours a day with just my arm in the top half or my leg in the bottom half of there cage while i played my switch and just let them crawl all over me
